Best Cheesesteaks in DFW!!! I've had plenty of authentic Philly Cheesesteaks in my life, and I'd easily rank Fred's among the best in Philly! The first time I went to Fred's, the owner was at the register greeting everyone who came in with an enthusiastic smile. I had a feeling the food was great because every seat in the restaurant was filled. I ordered the #4 - double meat and cheese Cheesesteak with mayo and fries. Luckily, I found a table as my food arrived and quickly found myself in Cheesesteak heaven! For the price, it was an incredible portion of steak and cheese, and every bite seemed better than the last until the end. I came back with my partner, this time adding their delicious Cheesesteak egg rolls to my order. She chose the pepper Cheesesteak and thought everything was delightful. Everything was so good that it was hard to resist the urge to order more food for later! You can tell that Fred genuinely enjoys his work, and his energy is infectious. Fred, Fred, Fred.... I absolutely hate writing this review as we've been customers since you opened this Plano location. However our satisfaction has decreased with each visit. While I was pleased to see your lunch crowd had the place 90% full, the 22 minute wait for 2 lukewarm cheesesteak sandwiches (both mine amd my spouse's), having to ask for ketchup and being told "they are on the tables". Well, there are 9 tables and only 2 bottles of ketchup amongst them. Only after 2 other diners asked for ketchup was another (ONE) bottle given to the 3rd person to ask for ketchup. On a positive note... the fries were hot. perhaps you leave the cheesesteaks on the grill until the fries are done? Now the travesty of all.... the last 3 visits no Hank's sodas have been stocked. We are not Pepsi product fans. so we ended up with the 6 Oz water cup but it's free so won't complain about that. The cool temperature cheesesteaks were not finished by either myself or DH. Please get back to your standards that got us to be regulars, we definitely will be going to the Allen location before coming back unless we see positive reviews. read more

This place was recommended to us recently. We decided to drop by Saturday afternoon. The sandwich shop is a hole-in-the-wall, no frills establishment. We ordered Philly cheese steaks and chicken wings. The food left a lot to be desired. The sandwiches were smaller than expected. The wings were dry with a bland taste. The prices were very reasonable. In this case, I believe you get what you pay for. In comparison, Big Tony's definitely has the best and largest variety of Philly cheesesteaks. read more

Always a good experience at Fred's even when my order was missed and had to be made on the spot. Apparently you're not supposed to be able to order via yelp, but it allowed me to which meant the restaurant did not receive my order so when I went to pick it up, it wasn't ready. So, I had the mushroom philly and the mozzarella sticks. The philly was really good. I really enjoyed the bread, it was soft. They list the mozz sticks as spicy, but it's not spicy. Now let me start by saying how upset I am that Fred's is closed at 8 pm. I'm about to cry because that's how bad I want a Philly from there right now!! THAT'S HOW GOOD IT IS!! This was my first time here and O M G ! The Pepper Philly I had today was phenomenal. Outstanding. Magnificent. I added jalapeños and green bell peppers (the jalapeños were missing but oh well, it was still fire). I danced the ENTIRE time I ate. I was humming and thanking God for this delicious meal. I added the Cajun fries at the end and I'm sooooo glad I did! They were soooo good, my co-workers kept tryna steal my fries. They were perfectly seasoned and fresh out the grease. My type of fry! My photos don't do the food justice at all. I placed my order to go and April was so sweet, on the phone and in person. Her name is very fitting because just like the spring, she made me smile. I would come back from the service alone. This business is BLACK OWNED so for those of you who want to support, please do! They deserve it. The actual restaurant was pretty busy during lunch but there was still plenty of seating. I saw so many happy men grubbing, so I knew I hit the mark. Called ahead and ordered a 10" broadstreet Philly. It was ready when they said it would be. In 10mins time. When I got there, I noticed that the bag looked a bit small. I pulled out the Philly and asked if this was a 10in. The guy with a joking tone said "yes". I did not have a measuring tool but felt it was not 10in... what I paid for! Came home, took a measuring tape and my feelings were right, not 10in. If your menu says 10in Philly and you pay for a 10in Philly, you should get a 10in Philly!! I've been going to Fred's for 15 years. This was my last visit. Customer service never seems to be a priority. But it was never a big deal to me until today. I ordered a 10 inch number 8 and was given a 10 inch number 10. Honest mistake on their part. Again, nbd I let them know my order was wrong and just expected them to remake it. Walk in to order for the first time at this location. I typically go to Lewisville and it is perfect every time. I mention this and the older cat says well they aren't the same and are currently being sued for name infringement. Then he says you will taste the difference. My friend ordered her food and the whole time he has a smart mouth. Now mind you she has never been to this place and was thrown off by his constant snapping. He was right about the difference. Not only was the taste not there but the sandwich was puny and lacked flavor and cheese. It was quite warm in the establishment to begin with the and the service was just not there. Decided I wanted a Philly during the weekday and stopped here. It's located off 15th St in Plano and is easily found. They mandate masks upon entering to order. Most of the tables had been put up due to COVID so I'm not sure if dining in was an option. They have a really nice Digital menu that's easy to read. Ordering was easy and the cashier was very courteous. She wore her mask up until another Patron who was an anti masker entered in. I ordered a Broadstreet cheesesteak (6 in) and a side of chips. The wait was quoted 10 mins but I may have waited a good 5. The food was great and my steak was finely chopped. It head the perfect mix of onions and jalapeños. I forgot to add mustard and Mayo but I did when I got home. The restaurant was really cute and had a wall dedicated to Philly and Philly sports, which was a nice touch. They did offer GF dessert choices as well. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the cooks were not wearing masks and when the anti masker came In basically bashing people for wearing masks, the cashier attempted to appease to her and took off her mask. Again, maybe she wasn't wearing it before but when she took my order she did. If you're going to ask patrons to wear masks and not strictly enforce it to the cooks or customers, the sign shouldn't even be up on the door. read more

I am an idiot for not going to Fred's Downtown Philly years ago. This is an amazing place and the sandwiches ... oh my goodness. GET IN MY BELLY! You're not going to find anything fancy here. It's a simple small shop, a little hot from all the kitchen action going on and there's a literal love affair with the Philadelphia Eagles going on in the decor. (Don't hold that against, Fred.) The sandwiches are on point. I mean, this is a Philly cheesesteak that's worth the calories. And you can order it a variety of ways - I went basic, because it was my first time and I wanted a classic. Unlike other places, the fries aren't a secondary thought. Get the sweet potato fries! 10 years ago, I moved from the Plano-Richardson area to downtown Dallas, but I still drive @ lease once a month to visit's Downtown Philly in Plano. I just can't help it, they are so perfectly delicious and the service is outstanding (from the guy's cooking in the back to the VERY SWEET lady that usually minds the cash register". Let me assure you that it's worth the drive (for me). I always get the #6 with fries and a beverage. I went today and my sandwich/fries were simply outstanding.......I just finished my sandwich while wishing I had ordered at least one additional sandwich for a midnight snack. I wish that everyone would listen to me.....this restaurant is simply delicious, no matter what you choose from the menu! Great service, GREAT food! I searched high and low all over DFW. Just go! You'd want two of them cheese steaks. Their mozzarella sticks also has a good spice to it.

The food is delicious and the people are so friendly and kind. The ambience reminds me of a family owned restaurant I visited in Chicago; very warm and relaxed. The workers and the manager clearly had a friendly relationship that helped me feel at ease, especially with how content the workers are. I'd recommend the mushroom philly. The prices are very affordable as well. After standing outside for a while in the cold, eating the food they gave me made me feel less anxious and alone, even with my parents in a city away. read more

Honestly, this place is too highly rated and the truth must be told. Decided to give this place a shot, even despite the negative reviews I read, and I paid the price; I wasn't the special exception. I even decided to go in-person since people had issues with ordering ahead. It didn't make a difference. I ordered the #7, which has lettuce, tomato, and onion. What I got was just meat. So the sandwich was completely wrong. Even before I found out the order was wrong, my gf and I were complaining about how bad the fries were on the drive home. Terrible fries. Dry and tasteless. It was like the frozen fries you buy and bake at home, but even a notch worse. They don't have anything for people who are getting take out to pour their condiments into. You need to interrupt whoever is cooking and ask them for everything. "Yeah, can I get hot sauce...and also do you have ranch, and...can I get some ketchup?" And they have to grab it from the fridge for you. I guess it's to save them money from people taking too many condiments? In any case, it's annoying. The portion of fried pickles were disappointing as well. Overall this place just sucked, from the food to the service. I really didn't want to leave this review. I had hope that people were just complainers and I would have no issues and a great experience, but I was wrong. When I walked in to order, a guy in front of me was just picking up his order, but they screwed something up so he had to sit there and wait for them to fix their mistake. No joke, I walked out with my entire order (which itself took a while) and he was still sitting there. My gf and I were joking about how mad that dude must've been. He looked so annoyed. So I've been to Tony's and was looking for a change. This popped up on my feed so I figured "Why not?" It's in an unassuming shopping center but once you walk inside it's like a little slice of Philly in the heart of TX. The inside is decorated with sports memorabilia from multiple Philly teams and has picture of people who took on their food challenge and failed. (I tried to find one that won but they may not have been where I was sitting at.) The guy who took our order was friendly and easy to talk with. Since it was my first time I decided to just get a basic Philly. Their style of Phillies is the finely chopped kind mixed with onions. They have their own special sauce they give you to try with it and I would recommend it. It gave the Philly an extra kick. The "negatives," (and I'm using that term veryyyy loosely): the fries were on the smaller end based on quantity but that's fine for anyone who's not a big eater. Also, they left a good 1/2 inch on each side of the bread devoid of any meat. Other than that; you're in for a treat. Definitely check them out when you're in Plano! read more

I have been here multiple times and can only say that this is nearly the best cheesecake I have ever had and I have made multiple trips to Philadelphia. You can get cheese wiz here which is always an indication of an authentic steakery. One of my worst experiences I have ever had and by far my worst one since moving to Dallas. I went here to grab lunch since the reviews seemed to be good. I ordered a half double philly with wiz and mushrooms with a side of philly toothpicks(fried onion and jalapeno straws. With only 5 other people there it took 40 MINUTES TO GET MY FOOD. I get my food and the toothpicks are bland, but I am still holding out on the sandwich being good. I am doing my best to not be too mean, but it was disgusting. It was basically pate the meat was so mushy. It was too mushy to even be called a chopped cheese. I asked for wiz and ketchup. If there was wiz it was hidden. I don't even think there was mushrooms. The bread was soggy and shriveled. The only good thing to come out of this place today was the fact that I can ross it off my list and keep the people of Yelp, friends, and coworkers from wasting their money.
