I went to Fred Meyer in Ballard and when I went to leave, the security guard asked for my receipts so I handed them over as I left and the security guard got confrontational with me a yelled at me IM NOT YOU TRASH CAN !!!!!!!!! Not wanting a fight with a twenty year old as I'm in my later years, I called the manager after leaving and she stated that I did not follow proper policy, that I was supposed to hold receipts while they marked them. Eh. It's okay. The Starbucks and toy department employees are friendly, and there's not much else. This Fred Meyers is laid out kind of awkwardly and all over the place. I prefer the Greenwood location a lot more. I once asked an employee where an item was, and he responded with "I don't know" and kept walking. Lol. I had called in during Black Friday and asked if they were getting a shipment of PS5s in, and an employee told me "nope". I responded with "oh. You're not getting any in at all?" And he responded with "nope. We are not." I took his word for it, thanked him, and hung up. Next thing I know, I'm seeing Tweets of people lining up at Fred Meyers in Ballard for a PS5. When I got there, they announced that they only had 30 PS5s in stock. Guess what number I was? 31. Lol! So no PS5 for me that day, which was a huge bummer. I asked the employee if he knew when they were getting another shipment in, and he told me that it was supposed to be a secret and that they weren't allowed to say. I was kinda irked that I was lied to when I called in the night before. When I called the Greenwood location the night before, they were honest with me and told me that they were getting the PS5s in stock. I don't know why this location chose to keep it a secret. Either way, it's no big deal. I only go to this location if Greenwood is out of stock of something that I need. Other than that, I don't frequent here much. read more

I got to say I moved to PDX in the spring of of 1978. Always loved FM 39th and Hawthorne. But in the last few years evened before Kroger , FM went to Kroger went to shit. And now, real shit !! Produce before was best in town. I delivered produce and Freddy's back dock would insert every pallet , every lever layer, box by box. I've shopped at this Fred Meyer pretty much since it opened in 1999. It always was well stocked and well staffed. Unfortunately, this store has really gone downhill over the past two to three years. There was a long period of ridiculous shopping cart shortages, and I came to think that a Fred Meyer trip was not complete without some item I wanted being unavailable. The customer service desk is always understaffed, with long wait times. While I find the security guards checking my receipts annoying, I understand the crime and pilfering challenges this store is facing. This is not an excuse, however, for letting this store decline. I talked to a friend today that has been shopping at this Fred Meyer for many years, as she lives very close and goes there quite often. She was telling me that they now have a security check and you have to show them your receipt when leaving the store. She usually goes there about 9:30 PM on her way home from work. She told me she was upset as last five times she went there, they checked her receipt about 3 times, but she noticed they did not check any other people leaving the store, only her. As I said, she has been shopping there for many many years and they should know her face by now and not ever check her receipt!! I did let her know that I was at the Fred Meyer on 175th and Aurora and they have a security that checks every persons receipt. Not sure what this new policy is but it doesn't seem fair or right. There is a huge problem with this Fred Meyer--it's not close enough! In a city where apples cost over $5/lb, and it's easier to get a mortgage than a steak, Fred Mayer is a site for sore eyes. Prices are great. The store is clean, well-stocked, bright and well-organized. It's in a marine industrial area with some bad roads getting to it, though. Seattle has Metropolitan Market, QFC, Whole Foods, Red Apple, Uwajamaya, Amazon Go, and the Central Coop. Each competes for having the most expensive and exotic foods. Every item seems to cater to someone with a different food allergy or diet. Most of the stores are dedicated to prepared, on-the-run foods. You can find 1,000 types of cheese--unless you want something other than cheddar. Sharp Provalone is out of the question. For some reason chicken breasts are naked--get them skinless or skinless and boneless, but none have skin. They never heard of a stewing or baking chicken. There must be state health regulations that bar the sale of a real bagel. 30 types of apples but no turnips. No such thing as dry scallops. Bluefish, crawfish and catfish are unheard of. A country ham is something like the country mouse and unloved here. LIke fresh peas, okra, fresh spinach? Sorry. Oops off the topic. Fred, we need more of you. Fred Meyer--a great grocery for those of us making under a half million dollars each year. read more

I've often been frustrated by the lack of help I get from the employees at this store. However, it's close to my house so I've endured. The final straw was during the holiday season. I went in to purchase gift cards to donate from my office. The man at customer service didn't believe me when I told him what the cards were for and was unbelievably rude. I asked to speak with the acting store manager, 15 minutes later she arrived and also started questioning me. I finally gave up and went to QFC on 24th where they were very helpful and I purchased the gift cards in minutes. I no longer shop at the Ballard Fred Meyer, instead I go to the one in Greenwood. Full of homeless and rude people. Some guy blasting rap full volume on his cell phone as he shopped didn't seem to mind all the N-Words his chosen artist was using, neither did the staff that stocked the vegetables about 3 feet away. I passed again in the isles about 20 min later he was still blasting, no cares in the world. When it came time to checking out I was unceremoniously shown that customers will be bagging their own groceries now, and only in the thinnest plastic bags available for some reason. How was I shown? The checker just didn't bag my groceries, she just pushed down to the end and looked at me. When I asked about bagging help, the checker just looked at me for while and said "there doesn't look like there are any baggers around right now". She just watched me bag up my groceries for the next 10 min in silence. No help. I will drive an extra 15 min to not have this experience again. Why am I paying these prices if I have to listen to the N-word on max, surrounded by disgusting homeless people who smell like cat pee, and I have to bag my own groceries while being watched by a bored and jaded checker now, as well? 0/10 -Will not be returning. *For the jewelry store only.* My fiancé bought me a necklace for Valentine's Day here; but he also got another from a different store that I liked a little better. We went to return the necklace at Fred Meyer yesterday, with the possibility of exchanging it with earrings for our upcoming wedding in July. As I was browsing, an employee came up to me and did the usual, "Is there something specific you're looking for?" So I showed him a pair of earrings that interested me from one of those spinning displays. You know, the ones that aren't equipped with the "real" stuff. Well, he sure as hell made it known it wasn't "real" when he said; "Those won't look good for a wedding cause they are cheap and aren't real - they are cubic zirconia." In my head, I wanted to tell him how arrogant he sounded; but I had to kill him with my kindness and let him proceed to show me the "real" stuff that cost 1k - 4k. I can tell he started getting irritated when I told them nothing is like what I'm describing; even the ones he kept showing me from their catalog. He tried to have his boss come over to see what else they can do for me, but at that point I was over it. Here's some advice to the employees in their jewelry store - don't start off by offending your customers by saying something they are interested in is too "cheap" for the occasion. I've purchased said "cheap" jewelry off of Amazon and the clearance racks of Macy's and Nordstrom, and they always looked more expensive than some of your expensive jewelry in your store, lol. Also, you should've asked for a budget before showing me things that are way more than I want to spend on wedding jewelry - the necklace we returned was only a couple hundred dollars; why in the world do you think we'd want to spend even more than that with an exchange? No me personally I'm a long time fan of the store you know even though we have had to mishaps over the years when it comes to being and Fred Meyers I have had three bikes that have gone missing in the parking lot in the store given the current situation of times right now in Seattle I do understand due diligence doing your job correctly you know but there does come you know a fine line between doing the job and harassing someone and and not to mention the fact that not too long ago suffered even more racial profiling at the very Meyers in Kent when my bike was stolen and it was purely indicated body employees said it was a black person that took my bike when actually it was a white person and the two employees were standing right there at the doorway watching this man take my bike now I know I have two years to actually file a full complaint there does come a point where some people you know will feel the same way I'm feeling and would definitely be saying you know hey enough is enough you know now unless I'm actually doing something wrong invading one's personal space coming and looking over my shoulder to see what I'm it pissed me off so much that I had to actually just f****** leave the store cuz I didn't want to be around these people no more because it's bad enough with some of the s*** I deal with in a day when it comes with other places cuz I am a black man and ain't nothing more troublesome than that particular situation no one likes to be racial profiled no one likes to be harassed if I'm doing something harass me point it out say it but if I'm not doing anything wrong don't treat me as such cuz definitely going to sue you guys are just you know fueling My fire to move on with it because that's not the way you treat your customers no matter what that's not the way to treat you your customer. Headed Downhill They used to have a nice area where people could eat what they bought. Now it is roped off. Covid? Yeah, maybe in 2020, but everywhere else has opened up. So customers now have to eat outside where there are no amenities. They used to sell good sandwiches and could heat up deli entrees. No more. They claim they are short on staff, but if you look at the prices you will realize they are making plenty of money and could hire if they need to, they just don't want to. I spoke with management about this, and did not get much of a reply. Try QFC. They value their customers, offer great deals and eating amenities, and have managers who listen to the public. I think the Ballard Fred Meyer is probably my spirit animal. I have spent my fair share of time and money here over lo these many years, and to my mind it seems to have changed very little over the past decade. I still like and rely upon this store for a number of reasons: 1. I greatly appreciate that it carries a wide assortment of household goods that are affordable yet durable enough to not necessarily be destined for a landfill within a few years of purchase. 2. I admire its dedication to carrying men's clothing and shoes that are consistently neither in nor out of style...this is very important when you're an aging schlub like I am... 3. I'm generally quite happy with the garden section...they have a good assortment of ornamentals, herbs and vegetables, typically in pretty decent shape, and with reliable emphasis on Northwest flora that do okay with damp shade. 4. Though I don't go here often for food or dranks, they are pretty solid on both fronts, including a passable wine section (though not as good as some other FMs) and a good selection of organic stuff. 5. I like its proximity to Burke-Gilman, especially now that those absurd, useless railroad tracks are less likely to put bicyclists in the hospital. It will be interesting to see how this store fares, and changes, as Ballard continues to get younger and more expensive and more, I dunno, un-Ballardy. If FM doesn't change, and simply continues status quo on its little shamble through life, then it will only further cement its place as my spirit animal. read more

Did you ever see the movie with Natalie Portman where she has her baby in a WalMart? If I ever had to have a baby in a grocery store, or got locked in overnight, I would want it to be this location of Freddy's. They have an awesome natural food department, good seafood and meat selections (organic and wild in both) a Tully's AND a Starbuck's and gelato. Does it get any better than gelato? Methinks NO. You can get ridonkculous deals on clearance merch in the clothing and shoe departments and other household goods. I have a Fred Meyer rewards card that has resulted in free food and money to use at FM, and when there was a recall on poisoned (maybe not poisoned, just bad) cinnamon they called me at home and left a message. Good service, hard-working staff and fresh food add up to a superstar experience. read more

This Fred Meyer in Ballard/Frelard is huge. Comparable in size to the ones on the Eastside. It is in an industrial area near Salmon Bay, so it feels a bit out of the way. But I think that it makes it easy to spot. Parking is a breeze and the store layout is easy to navigate. It is similar to the Redmond store (except everything is on one floor) so I know where to go for what I need. I did notice though that there are two self checkout locations here on both ends of the store. I like this since I tend to do self checkout every time I visit Fred Meyer so having them in two locations means I don't have to go to the other end of the store just to self checkout. If you are shopping here for groceries, remember to bring a shopping bag or pay the Seattle bag fee. I don't do a lot of grocery shopping in Seattle anymore, but if I happen to need something and am in the Ballard area, Fred Meyer is where I would go before going anywhere else. read more

I came into this Fred Meyer between business meetings to grab something for lunch. I was helped right away at the busy deli counter by a happy young man who was eager to please and got me the sandwich I wanted right away. I was happy to find a wide variety of cut up fruit ready to go and a lot of Naked juices. Most grocers only carry a few flavors. I used self-checkout and was in and out fast. I used the restroom which was clean and although a bit beat up, taken care of. This Fred Meyer is huge and I would come back here if I was in Ballard and needed something again. Customers just have to retrieve their own carts from the parking lot. The young person collecting carts was bringing just one at a time, while 4-5 people were in the lobby looking for a cart. I spent about 10 minutes shopping. My shopping partner went to use the restroom, in 10 minutes and 5 employees later she gave up, no one knew the code, no one would let her in. No one would be so bothered to call a manager. So we left, we left a cart full of groceries so we could go find a bathroom. I will buy my plants, plant food, groceries, socks, shampoo, and soap another day, and at another store. If this was the first time I left without my groceries, I would consider it a one off but this is the standard at this store lately. Prices are higher and higher, and yet I have to fetch my own cart, bag my own groceries, and there is simply no customer service. As the price of food is getting higher, I'm moving more and more toward just eating out and just skip buying food because it's way to expensive to cook a meal for 1-2 people. That said, when I do need to buy all the staples I need to have this is the store I go to when I want to minimize the cost and have the best chance of finding something on sale I really need. I never fail to find at least 1-2 things that has a great sale price to stock up on. This isn't where I would buy fresh produce or meat, but all the packaged products are here and you have the best chance of getting a deal. read more

This is our usual grocery store. Employees are always friendly, they have a little bit of almost everything you would need, and it's pretty clean. However, tonight, whoever was the bagger for Kurtis around 7pm tonight (shorter girl with dark hair) needs to be retrained. She put a bag of chips in the bottom of the bag, then tossed a bottle of juice on top of it, now we have a crushed bag of chips. In the other bag, she put our roasted chicken in SIDEWAYS! It leaked all over our groceries and ruined the bag. I've now got three sticks of butter I was going to use for brittle covered in chicken grease. read more

THIS IS FOR THE PHARMACY ONLY! Yesterday, I was reading thru the pharmaceutical insert for the medication I picked up. I always read the insert, it contains much more detail and information. There was a vague sentence that I didn't understand concerning the medication. I went to ask the pharmacist and she said, "I don't know, what it means. You need to look it up on the internet, go google it." Below is the sentence I needed more information on: "A predominantly sensory peripheral polyneuropathy has been observed." For a pharmacist to not know how to explain this is unacceptable. Obviously, Fred Meyer is not hiring pharmacists, but technicians with lesser education and minimal knowledge. read more

This is for the grocery -- excellent selection of veg and fruits and the meat selection is pretty strong too! Coming from Texas, FM feels like a less sterile, more pleasant Walmart. Prices are on point too compared to my neighborhood Safeway! The staff is also quite friendly and helpful. I usually go to Target but there isnt one where I live and this is a few minutes away from me....so I go here instead. It's fine. No real complaints, its a pretty large store with food, groceries, household items, personal toiletries, clothes, electronics, automotive stuff, toys & games, I mean they pretty much got everything you need and Im not about to drive to Northgate or go back into downtown for a Target. Food quality seems to be ok, pretty good bakery area, meats I dont buy much as I go to Trader Joes up the street. Veg seems to be pretty decent as well. There are times where they are offering samples to try. There's also a little Starbucks inside as you enter. Aisles are quite narrow at times when passing someone, and when you exit an aisle, be sure to look so you dont pull in front of someone walking by. You are not the only one at the store. Check-out seems to be pretty easy, the times I've been, there has been multiple lines open. Self-check out is faster and I've never had any problems with that. Staff has been pretty helpful if you need anything, will help you locate something, confirm pricing, and the cashiers will thank you for waiting if you behind someone with a boatload of items. Parking lot outside is pretty large with ample parking but you will get the occasional moron that doesnt know how to park within the lines and an idiot that drives down the wrong direction and is oblivious to anything & everything. Overall, probably one of the better Fred Meyer stores I've been to. read more

Ordered the PS5 online and it was paid for then got a notice after it was paid for that the order is cancelled. Ordered at 12 pm and it was cancelled at 8pm. I've been a dedicated Fred Meyer/QFC shopper for 30+ years. And have been shopping at the Ballard store since it opened. However, since your recent store re-set moving the location of all food items to the point of not being able to find anything, and closing all but 3-4 checkout stands forcing customers to either wait in line for 20+ minutes, or deal with the all self checkout clusters recently installed. If you want customers to use self checkout, you need to hire multi-tasking, helpful assistants, not some uncaring, hungover 20-something that couldn't care less about his job or caring about his appearance or people skills. The Kent Fred Meyer has always been a fairly standard store for years, nothing amazing but it mostly got the job done if you didn't mind paying a bit more than you might some where else. Then they did the remodel which removed a lot of floor space, the Electronics department and about half the clothing department to put in a bigger Pharmacy area. However the biggest hit is the return feature. Simply put Fred Meyer basically has no return policy at all any more. A wide variety of products can't be returned at all and most the others are only if it's not opened. This means you can buy a broken or damaged product, have the receipt and have no option to get an exchange or refund. My little trip was even worse as my product was not opened at all, the box was just a bit damaged in some the corners from being handled. The Customer support lady was "suspicious" and proceeded to spend about 2 minutes forcing it open with her nails. Then she calls over her manager when I complain to point out the "Obviously" damaged box now that she had mangled it open. Thus denying my refund even when I was due one. When I complained that there was no sign at all about not accepting returns on headphones if the box was open the store manager just went on some rant about it being their policy. When I pointed out it wasn't posted any where he just explained it away because of the remodel they removed their electronics department and had no place to put the sign. So not only do they treat you like a criminal if you try and return things, the staff is willing to void your return by opening the boxes themself to ensure you didn't replace the product... then claim you can't get a return because you opened it. read more

I love this Freggies, it's the best one I've been to in the entire PNW. They have just the right blend of luxury and economy, makes me feel right at home. The thing is, you can find almost all the grocery items they have at metropolitan market, at about 1/3 less the price. Don't believe me, just check for yourself. I also like that this location is clean, and they are not afraid to hire offbeat, but very customer centric associates, they are always very helpful. Electrics section is A+, they know they demo here. It's a little tucked away, but it does add to the exclusivity of the shop, not like the one on 85th. Highly recommend, come for a hit foods lunch special, stay for some household shopping. read more
