Visiting family and needed to buy hairspray . This market was up the street from where I was staying. Employees greeted us as we walked in. We asked an employee what aisle hairspray product was located . He showed us and made sure we didn't need anything else. Ken's market is relatively a small store. It was clean , and well stocked with items. Great place to buy groceries and other non food items needed. Two cashiers were working but had the lines moving. I was told on the phone that I would be allowed to shop in the store without a mask on as I have COPD that has been exacerbated by having Covid back in March and I can no longer breath with a mask on. They said, no problem, come in and shop without a mask. I got into the store, I was singled out, humiliated, embarrassed, mask shamed and kicked out of the store. That's a horrible way to treat a senior citizen. I was then told they would shop for me. I waited outside for 15 minutes. I just wanted 4 steaks, that's it. No one was doing any shopping on my behalf. I had to go in and get kicked out again. Don't tell people it's ok to come in on the phone and then humiliate them in front of others and kick them out. I was staying with a friend who lived within walking distance of Ken's Market and stopped by a few times during my weeklong visit. The first time I stopped by was during the day on a weekday, while the second time was on a Saturday morning. Both times the store wasn't too busy, and I was able to get in and out in a few minutes. While the shop is small for a supermarket, they have quite a large variety of items, including food, electronics, school supplies, produce, ready-made dishes, and toiletries. They also had a pretty large selection of wine/alcohol. My headphones broke while I was in Seattle and I did take a peek at the small electronics section to see if they sold any; they didn't, but there were things like chargers and power strips, which would be handy. The store was well maintained and the staff I interacted with were friendly and efficient. The items were a bit more expensive than at a major supermarket chain, but it was super convenient for where I was staying and it's nice to shop local. read more

Very friendly employees who were especially helpful when I had a special request. Re Covid, I felt very safe. We came to Ken's quite a few times during our stay. We picked up a bunch of gluten free beers - Ghostfish saison, grapefruit IPA, and a few other GF brands. I snagged some wine - a great rosé and Old Vine Red. They have a huge selection of things for such a small market! I loved that the wine options came with little info cards and point recommendations. We also stopped in for some grocery basics before we headed off to the mountains for a few days. We thought we'd grab a couple things, but ended up getting everything on our list! A trip to Ken's can be something of an ethical dilemma for me. Sometimes, I look down my list of potential purchases, and the "staple" foods are almost always MUCH more expensive than the same things at the "Way that is Safe". It's kind of silly to pay $4 more for the exact same brand and bag of sugar. Sorry, Ken. I usually spend my money at Ken's on their really good produce (like brussels sprouts and chanterelles!), niche products like all-raw heirloom coconut bars, and for the boyfriend, deli meats that don't seem like they were extruded from a vat-grown Turkey™. For a neighborhood store this is as good as it gets. Yes it is tiny, random, and a little cramped but those are just counterpoints to a charming and progressive store. Ken's Market Queen Anne reminds me of an old love- my Markettime in Fremont. The moment I walked in- on a whim and in need of a green pepper- I was excited to find a clone of my grocery love right by my new house. It is on the expensive side- but with great selection and service this can be ignored. Ken's Market has organic, pre-packaged/homemade, specialty line, prepared for cooking, hard to find ingredients, traditional, & fresh food all in one tiny magnificent cramped space. With some things like hot sauce, wine, and beer Ken's had more selection then some of the big boys. Also, there was a few items that I only find once in a while and I found that Ken's carries them daily. My visit here included touring every aisle, smiles of joy, a judgment stop at the wine section, and picking up what I needed for dinner. I've been going to Ken's since I was old enough to forge my momma's name on checks! Now I'm looking forward to the day my daughter can do the same, only with my debit card and PIN! If we have to pack a quick lunch for school, my daughter heads straight for one of the small veggie trays, a mini bagel with cream cheese, a small bag of chippies and a V8 ... it's so nice to get them all in one fell swoop, instead of trekking through Safeway. The refrigerated drink selection (up to and including Carly's "Beer" comment) is awesome, with singles of stuff that you've probably never heard of - I know I hadn't! Everybody should have a "Ken's" on their street corner. Countless times I have forgotten one essential ingredient and Ken's, standing their stoically shaking it's head in utter disappointment, has bailed me out... yet again. This isn't to say Ken's is like some 7-11 or other convenience store. They have an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some ready-to-cook meals from their kitchen in back that, though I haven't yet tried them, look very tasty. The wine and beer section will do in a pinch for even your most snobby of friends whom, having just decimated your liquor cabinet, would have no right to complain anyway. The staff is fantastically friendly and often are on a first name basis with their shoppers. It is a fairly small shop, and the prices are higher than a regular grocery store, but such are the burdens of convenience. read more

Maybe appreciated a little too much, judging by how much weight I've gained since I met you. The reason why I'm giving you 4 stars, Ken's, is that you're a bit on the pricey side. But I understand. You're not a giant chain store, so you don't get the big discounts that Safeway's or QFC does. Besides, you're so adorable, with your little produce aisle and your tray full of local desserts. Ken's is a great little local grocery joint..... but holy moly is it expensive! Super Convenient, super nice people work there and they have some great stuff. They have an awesome section of deuce-deuces with some great specialty and micro brews. Good wine and cheese selection too. They've got some amazing looking Mac & Cheese at the hot counter I haven't tried yet... But I will try it for sure at some point. I like this join cause it's only a few blocks from my house and way less of a headache than Safeway. They also have a Bank of America ATM inside- which is super convenient. I will have to start out by saying I really like Ken's! Their produce section is cheap and in season, even though smaller than a larger grocery store (e.g. Safeway). When ever I have had questions about produce they have been able to answer it and tell me where they get their from. I guess a small local grocery stor has to differentiate themselves somehow and Ken's does so with their awesome produce. Additionally, their beer selection is great and well thought out. The beers they have run the gambent of style and tastes. Their staff is funny and always happy to help. The reason they do not get five stars is their prices. Their canned items can be quite pricey compared to the larger stores more so than I would think their small size mandates. All in all a great business which I enjoy supporting. I would be sad if it ever went away and will certinaly support it when I go produce shopping. If you live in Queen Anne check it out. read more

I was originally under the impression that Ken's Market was out of my price range when shopping for groceries. What I can tell you is that it isn't, and is based more on what your tastes in food are. No other place on Queen Anne that I am aware of sells Boarshead deli items. Ken's does. No other place on Queen Anne has the selection of Dogfish Head beers that Ken's does. No other place has truly homemade soups and chili. Ken's does. Albeit the item's I mentioned might not be the cheapest on earth, I would rather have a little of those than a lot of something I didn't like as much. It took a little while to figure out where everything was, but once I did, Ken's turned into the place we shop often. read more

I used to come here sometimes on my lunch breaks to grab a sandwich and a drink, but I won't be returning after the violent food poisoning I experienced last week after eating one of their tuna sandwiches. This review is a long time coming. My grandmother used to send me to Ken's with a few dollars when I was visiting and she was short of something. She always let me keep the change when I returned. Now this was 50 years ago (I was in elementary school), so I don't know for sure that it's the same now but it sure looks like the same neighborhood-friendly place I remember. Great for last minute dinner items, after school snacks, and great produce & deli! They make unique, tasty deli sandwiches and have a nice selection of beers, cold drinks, and on the go things. I wouldn't shop here for staples though... for example, ice creams is $7/quart, milk is $5/gallon, and canned stuff is pretty overpriced. HOWEVER, they have excellent customer service, know their stuff when it comes to what they stock and finding obscure items, and they carry a range of items you won't find at Safeway! The wine selection is actually very good...a great stop on your way home from the office, pick up a nice bottle of wine and the essentials for a great meal. This is a wonderful example of a community store. It is not a corporate giant but still has competitive prices. The service is hands down better then the horrible Queen Anne Safeway and is cleaner. The store has your basic needs and fresh produce. The deli is top quality and check out service is quick and accurate. The staff here clearly cares about their customers. Tiny place - kickass smart selections. You name it. Produce, wine, beer, bread, meats, coffee beans, house cleaning stuff, fish, even chips! It's like the market that everyone wishes they could open. And if you're an Upper QA'er - the convenience factor can't be topped (zing! see what I did there? Top? Of Queen Anne? Sorry.) Mayyyybe a couple of the prices are a wee bit higher than the monster chain up the street. But it's cheaper than Metro Market! Mos def. Plus they write some funny isht on the big board outside. I like Ken's Market for many, many reasons. 1. I worked there right outta college when I was trying to figure out life and stuff. It was a great place to work. Many of the people I worked with still work there--and I love seeing them when I go to Ken's. 2. They have a solid variety of really good stuff. From quality produce, to awesome deli stuffs, hot coffee in the morning, to delicious-er-than-top-pot doughnuts, and more! 3. Some people complain about the prices--but I'm actually pretty sure they're not that outrageous. If you want cheap shitty produce, go to TJ's. If you want quality produce, go to Ken's. You might pay a few cents more a pound--but it's worth it. 4. Veggie trays. Fruit & cheese trays. 5. Turkey sandwich on the rosemary bread. But surrusly. I love this place. read more
