Title: Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations As a Google Local Guide and frequent traveler, I always enjoy exploring regional grocery stores and sharing my experiences with the community. On a recent trip from Texas to Seattle, I researched the best grocery options in the area and Fred Meyer consistently came up as a top recommendation. With that in mind, I made a special effort to visit the Fred Meyer location on June 6, 2025, around 5:00 PM, eager to explore their offerings and write a helpful review for others. Upon arrival, I was initially impressed by the store's size and variety, particularly in the produce section, which appeared fresh and well-stocked. As part of my normal reviewing process, I began taking a few discreet photos of the produce displays to accompany my review. However, my experience quickly took a turn for the worse. While photographing, a white male security guard approached me and instructed me--rather curtly--to stop taking photos, stating that photography is not allowed inside the store. His tone was unnecessarily stern, and his facial expression felt dismissive and unwelcoming. The encounter was both surprising and disheartening, especially since my intent was simply to provide a fair and informative review for other customers. After leaving the store, I reviewed Fred Meyer's terms and general policy and found no clear indication that personal photography for review purposes is prohibited--especially when done respectfully and without disrupting other customers or staff. As a consumer and content contributor, I felt disappointed and, frankly, disrespected by the interaction. I can't help but wonder if my appearance played a role in the guard's behavior. As an Asian visitor, it's hard not to question whether bias--conscious or not--may have influenced the way I was treated. I sincerely hope that was not the case, but the experience left me feeling unwelcome and excluded. Regrettably, the interaction ruined what could have been a pleasant shopping visit. I chose not to make any purchases and instead left the store feeling frustrated and deeply disappointed. I had genuinely looked forward to highlighting Fred Meyer's variety and value to others traveling through the Seattle area, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this location based on how I was treated. While I acknowledge that Fred Meyer likely has quality products and a loyal customer base, customer experience is just as important as product selection. I hope store management takes feedback like this seriously and reviews staff conduct to ensure that all guests--regardless of background--feel respected and welcome. For that reason, I am leaving a one-star review. I believe in honest feedback and hope this helps improve the experience for future customers.

This Fred Meyer is my local one and all things considered its OK. It's my preferred supermarket because even with an abundance of grocers, this one is the cheapest overall even though the others are closer. It's large and fairly well stocked. Spanning furniture, appliances, home needs, electronics all the way to groceries. The customer service counter needs work. The staff are all nice that I've encountered but my first time there there was only 1 person working it and there was like a line 10+ people. The aisles are a bit cramped here particularly in the grocery/dairy areas which is not good. I constantly am worried I'm blocking somebody and have to be real careful when turning in and out of aisles. The lot is large and ok with Slanted parking so that the drive aisles aren't traffic heavy or at least is usually the case. So Fred Meyer gets a pass. Wish there were more of them nearby for comparison but this Fred is OK

Maybe if they open more checkouts, they wouldn't have to deal with so much loss prevention and spend time restacking shelves because people have abandoned their carts.

Parsley, out of stock?!

Staff is always friendly. Rarely out-of-stock in the items I need. Fairly intuitive layout.

One checker! Long line at that checker and at self-check. Right now, Sunday 8:00AM Trader Joe's will have at least six.

Shopping in Seattle, Washington…read more.. I really like Ross Dress for Less stores - especially on Tuesdays when there's a 10% discount! Just say "Tuesday Club" to the cashier if you're above the required age... haha! Located at the Ballard Blocks, park for free in the shared covered parking garage and go upstairs from Trader Joe's... how convenient! My niece needed a dish drainer. I needed a blanket. I also found a set of panda lights on clearance! I got a blue Stitch mug - also on clearance. My housewarming gift to my niece was a tiered shower caddy... LOL... I don't want to reach down to the body wash and shampoo on the floor of the shower! This was a fun experience! I caught the escalator down to my car - after walking up the stairs... I think the elevator wasn't working. I juggled my purchases without a shopping bag because I used my bag at Trader Joe's already!

Having been so accustomed to the large, ground level, department store version of Ross, this was a…read morereminder that not all locations are ever the same. First off, this Ross is located at the top of the escalator on the second floor of Ballard Blocks. Secondly, in order in to enter, one has to enter a scanner / screened at the door and then be let in by a security person. Thirdly, many common items are locked up and much of the browsing / perusing element gets lost. (#1) I was really hoping for some action from tent city faithful but missed out. The good news is that the store is clean and well organized. The furniture section isn't much to look at, nor is there much for electronics or men's clothing. It's not the biggest location but they've done a decent job keeping it well maintained. The staff was very kind and was very good about explaining and escorting folks to helping them find what they needed. Prices were the run of the mill with not too many deals to be found. Parking is available in the basement but street parking is also an option. ____________ (#1) A stark reminder that the West Coast doesn't play around.

The Block Cafe - My Ex husband and I meet here at least once a month to chat since I moved back to…read morethe area. This cafe was originally called the Egg'n Me but recently was bought out by the Block Cafe... the menu is basically remained the same. Good service, family welcome, child units and grand parents seen enjoying themselves. I have only come for breakfast on the weekends but the cafe has a bar and tv's so may boast an evening scene I have not witnessed. The price is fare for really good wholesome food... highly recommend trying the Mexican item if you like Mexican food and the pico de galo is fresh. It has a cafe/ diner vibe comfortable with average noise levels. The staff are prompt with never ending coffee and let us be LONG after we paid the bill and should have left... they know my Ex's order by heart and I just keep them guessing :). Good food, good value. Parking early in the morning is no problem gets busy as the morning wears on with the PCC, FEDEX, UPS and Trader Joe's around the corner. A large parking garage is open too.

It looks like the developer's idea here is make it sort of a one stop for folks who come to it. There are plenty of options for coming to the blocks all ranging from eyeglasses and dental offices for health, a PCC market and Trader Joes for grocery shopping, early education center and children's haircuts for the youngsters, Xfinity and UPS for those other errands, The Egg & Us and Top Pot Donuts for food and more all collected into a few blocks of structure. The problem is I took one look at the parking deck and said to myself what a mess. I suppose this is the most sensible way of doing this, but it just looks confusing and jammed. Then the outer area parking is not done, it's still a gravelly area that you know is for parking, but it doesn't fit the fancy structure that is surrounded by it. It seems to be doing well business-wise and I'm sure I'll find myself going to it, particularly for Trader Joes, but if I can I'll park further away to avoid headache.

Today, March 16, 2026 at about 3 pm, I picked and used a self-checkout but when I attempted to pay…read morethe cash option did not show. I had not seen any indication beforehand that this station would not accept cash. When a woman employee, about 30, dark hair, and about 5' or so tall, came over to help I explained and she said there was a message on the screen. I've been told this before so since then have carefully looked over the screen of any self-checkout I use but never see the message. Today I was told that after I scan my Fred Meyer card it will show. So when done I swiped my card again and indeed a message to the effect that the checkout stand did not accept cash did flash on the screen. I say flash, and I mean flash - I am sure it was there for about 1/2 second, on the upper left side of the screen, then it was gone. I tried to contact the woman employee again to let her know that the message flashes so fast that unless you happen to be looking right at that part of the screen as you swipe your card - and who does - you will miss it - just so she may be aware and not so emphatic that there is a message that everyone can see - well, not really unless you literally catch it as it flashes on, then off. As I approached her she recognized me and even before I could get out more than two or three words said that it was all settled and she didn't want to hear all about it again and turned her back and walked away. Who wouldn't think this a flippant and rude response to someone trying to inform her the no cash message is nearly impossible to see before it disappears - maybe she could speak to management, maybe have it changed to appear longer - or just be helpful in some way given the unreasonable situation. But no. She couldn't be bothered and was dismissive. Left me feeling as if I'd done something wrong trying to inform her of something that could use a remedy to be more fair to customers. Generally employees there are friendly and helpful. So this was a bit of a shock. Dismissing someone trying to help or inform about an issue is not professional. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. But is that a good reason to rudely dismiss a customer trying to point out an issue to an employee that is negatively affecting customers? My given star rating is 3 because I like the store and the employees, and perhaps the person I dealt with today was just off, but even at that there was an issue that Fred Meyer should be made aware of and point out to their employees. Thank you.
