This is a great place to meet up with friends for dinner and a walk. I have many favorite restaurants including Hot Iron, China City and Azul. There are many more to choose from and I think I have tried them all. I am always excited when someone suggest something here as a destination. There are also lots of places for just coffee or a drink. I often finish my visit with a trip to the grocery store Town and Country on my way home. It really feels like a one stop destination and I love not having to move the car multiple times. If you have not checked out the walking trail, you should do so. It's nice and shaded so you don't get too hot or too wet depending on the weather. You can take it from behind the Town Center all the way to McCollum park. It's stroller and dog friendly. There's usually other people out and about so you don't feel too unsafe even though a large portion of it goes behind people's residences. I also really appreciate the Summer Concert Series, this happens on Wednesday nights for the entire summer. It's usually cover bands, if you are lucky you can snag a seat at one of the restaurants bordering the forum on their patio, but if not they provide some seating. It's free and a good way to meet up with friends and listen to some music while enjoying the summer weather. It's usually a good time.

They also gave us tiny take home containers when we clearly needed larger ones and they stopped providing after dinner mints. Be sure to walk around and explore the entire floor, as there are more than double the amount of space/seats than what I expected initially, just on the first floor. Unfortunately, most of the seats are not equipped with outlets for charging, but the seats are comfy and make a great place to sit down and study or read. I also went upstairs to find even more couch/comfy chairs. The background music is a bit louder on the second floor but people are quieter and there is less commotion there. There are gender neutral bathrooms on both floors, but you need to ask for access at the security desk on the second floor. The security staff were nice and they printed out and gave me a sheet with a QR code that grants access to the restrooms for a few hours.

The staff at this location are hard working, keeping the isles and racks neat, and I hard saying this but it doesn't look like Ross. The toy area is straightened and you don't see shoes everywhere on the ground and feel like you're at a picked over estate sale. I miss the Maxx downtown and the two levels. Great job, and the cashiers are always super friendly and keep the line moving for efficiency. The snacks by the register get me every time. Watch out. They're a good deal.

However, my recent visit has left me feeling uncomfortable and annoyed. I am in the process of moving and walked over here to pick up some storage items for my bathroom. The person at the cashier was pushier than usual to get me to sign up for a TJ Maxx credit card. She then asked me if I have photo ID and I said no just to get her off my case. She then tells me it's against the law to not have a photo ID on me (which is false) and goes into how you never know with how things are nowadays. That left me feeling very uncomfortable, icky and no longer willing to shop at this TJ Maxx.

I am fond of urban architecture, but in ways that helps preserve the historical bones of the structure and continues to contribute to the neighborhood. Best summed up from an excerpt from the Dunn & Hobbes website, "Chophouse Row puts the "mixed" in "mixed-use", featuring state-of-the-art creative office space, an extensive retail marketplace and residential penthouses in the heart of the Pike-Pine neighborhood of Capitol Hill. The project combines the historic Chophouse building, built as an auto parts store in 1924 and used for decades as iconic band practice space, with a new office tower that features open plan workspaces with floor to ceiling windows and exposed steel structure. Salvaged materials were used throughout and the building features highly sustainable energy and water systems. A pedestrian mews and mid-block courtyard connects Chophouse Row through to Dunn & Hobbes' other 12th Avenue Marketplace properties." I do miss shuttered businesses such as Amandine, By Tae, Petti-Rosso, and Kurt Farm Shop, but I enjoy revisiting to see what new businesses have taken their place and newer ones to wander through. A big plus is the juxtaposition of the surrounding mixed materials and the sky above. It brings out my inner photographer. Also, the open courtyard is a great getaway especially during warmer months with their variety of outdoor seating and even during crisp autumn evenings when the firepit is lit.

I like to look for bargains - especially on artificial flowers (for the cemetery), greeting cards, sunglasses and reading glasses, stationary, kitchen gadgets, etc. I got a Stitch notebook and some hangers for my niece's closet... plus some artificial autumn leaves for my dad and grandparents. It was a good experience, especially because of the kind, efficient cashier. She managed the long line of customers well and had time to give me the key to the restroom and explain the location. And the cashier shouting "welcome to DOLLAR tree!" every time the door opens, even if someone leaves, is irritating! It sounds like a cartoon bird, other stores don't do it, so stop. I asked how people are supposed to know in the future and they said "I don't know it's on you to just know or buy it." Be cautious while purchasing from there in the next few weeks to months as this transition is taking place as more than likely what you are purchasing is not 1.25.
