Ya, well I am not the only Person! There are a couple of other posts similar to mine. I walked here with my 7 year old just to see what a great market it was. This market might be great for the immediate locals, but in the grand scheme of things it is not much at all. It is a very tiny block of super expensive stores. The meat market looked cool, but very pricy. If you are from Southern California or Orange County, imagine the Anti Mall in Costa Mesa. Now, imagine it about a quarter of the size. Meh. I've experienced better. Way better. Just my two cents.

Not as large as I expected, but still a charming neighborhood market in Capital Hill worth making a visit to. Melrose houses about a handful of small business fronts inside including a restaurant, a butcher counter with some great organic cuts and house made sausages, a plentiful flower shop, wine bar, and a expansive cheese vendor - all focusing on maintaining very high standards, promoting local products (or as local as can be; everything from PNW), specialty items, artisanal and seasonal. All of the vendors are VERY knowledgeable about their products, welcome questions, and are happy to provide samples if available. The perfect casual early afternoon ~hour visit to Melrose Market (from a tourist perspective): As soon as you enter walk to the left and ogle the offerings at Rain Shadow Meats and wish you had a place like this near home (at least I do!; fresh rabbit can be difficult to find). Walk around and examine the menu at Sitka and Spruce - looked great, but my husband and I were not in desire of a full meal. Of course, stop and smell the lovely flowers! Then...u-turn it and head directly toward The Calf & Kid. What a great cheese selection - my personal nirvana. Devour some tastings, try your best to decide on which you like best (all of them, yes, please!), and purchase a few varieties, cut into any size you desire. Be sure to get a Goat Chevre Chocolate Truffle and pop in right in your mouth. Like Tony Bourdain said when he visited, "This shouldn't be good, but it is. Wow. That's my kind of desert." You bet your bum it is...and I don't even care for chocolate much. After you've made your cheese purchase, mosey over to bar ferd'nand, take a seat, and enjoy a glass of PNW wine hand chosen for you based on your conversation with the proprietor...then decide to stay for a second glass because of the wonderful and insightful conversation you're having with a few native Seattle folks. Overall: If I lived in Seattle (yes, that actually might happen someday), especially in the Capital Hill area, I would definitely be a regular customer at Melrose Market - not just to shop, but also just to hang out and enjoy a bit of serenity and awesome local goods. Very inviting atmosphere that just makes you want to stay a while. ;) [111 in 2015]

Such a cute spot! Multiple restaurants to choose from, some cute boutiques, and wine spots! Stopped at Marseille for some coffee and loved the atmosphere of the entire market.

The venue used as a wedding!

Did you know: in addition to shopping, you could also get married here? Okay, so to be honest, I haven't checked out the actual market itself. Instead, I had a chance to see this place in the form of a wedding venue. My 5 stars and review are entirely focused on Melrose Market as a wedding venue as opposed to the actual market itself, although I'm happy to read rave reviews about the market-side of it. One of my fraternity brothers got married here, and I have to say, if/when my wedding day comes (trust me I'm a long way away from it), this might have to be considered! I really appreciate it as a venue; it's so low-key, relaxed, and Seattle-y; which is how I consider myself. The space used for the wedding and it's entrance is actually in the back, on Minor St as opposed to Market St. So it's sort of hidden, adding to its low-keyness. It's actually adjacent to Still Liquor so you can use that as a pre-game place, which is what the newlyweds did, or your friends can go to any of the nearby pubs/bars before or afterwards. When you walk in, you go down a short flight of stairs that leads to the venue space. There is a wide open space that they first used for the wedding ceremony, and then when the guests went to Still Liquor for an intermission before the reception, they transformed the space in to a dining hall. The space reminds me of an empty loft, with brick walls, support beams, and open space you can transform to however you want your venue to look like. Big shoutout the staff too who were all nice, friendly, and great with a bunch of fraternity and sorority alums.

What a beautiful space, lots of wood, natural light and quality vendors. Like the Ferry Building in SF, but on an intimate scale. The building itself is positioned on a corner, so the marketplace has interesting angles. A place I could spend a lot of time and money.

This is a wonderful indoor market to spend a few hours in, enjoying the open air architecture, sandwich cafe & restaurants, a small batch locally-sourced butcher shop with well crafted sausage & charcutery, wine bar, gift & home goods shops. An all-around nice and cozy space to hang out in, especially on rainy days.

Great place to grab a bite to eat, a drink and play a game

This is a cool spot to visit in Seattle! I really like Sitka and Spruce but they only got an ok food rating. Still can come here for drinks and shopping

I stopped long enough to enjoy a little of her song and record a few moments before continuing inside. When I came back out after the movie, there she was again--still singing. I've started thinking of her as **"The Eternal Singer of Pine & 6th."** She felt like an unexpected extra bit of character for an already charming Seattle destination. Pacific Place itself is a great place to spend some time downtown. Beyond its unique shops, it has one of my favorite movie theaters in Seattle, plus a bar and a wonderful treehouse-style seating area where you can relax, work, enjoy some food, or have a drink. That combination is what I like about Pacific Place. You can shop, catch a movie, find a comfortable place to hang out, and sometimes even stumble across one of those wonderfully unexpected moments that makes downtown Seattle feel alive. On this visit, that moment came with its own soundtrack.

But, and it seems a lot of other people focus on this part, the mall is why you come here. When I saw there was a mall nearby I figured I would be able to stop here and grab a few things. Like souvenirs. But that was not the case. Coming back on the monorail to my hotel I decided I would walk through here and see what was up. I really wish that I had visited the city years ago as this place seems to have been the place to be. But, now, as one publication put it, it has fallen into dead mall status. 82 stores down to just 19. Hardly any anchors left, from what I found Nordstrom Rack is planning to relocate. A food court closed up and casing the foot traffic to dwindle. They do have a flagship Zara here, but from what I could find, you can't enter through the mall proper, you have to go outside and enter via the street. It is a good space, one that could benefit with some interest of stores that will stay. Not necessarily those low end stores that just fill in for a few months, but ones that have staying power. I had an eerie feeling walking through here. Like I was being watched too. That could have been all the security they have milling about the building.

It uniquely links 11th, 12th, with Pike on Capitol Hill since 2018 (5/30/23). I am fond of urban architecture, but in ways that helps preserve the historical bones of the structure and continues to contribute to the neighborhood. Best summed up from an excerpt from the Dunn & Hobbes website, "Chophouse Row puts the "mixed" in "mixed-use", featuring state-of-the-art creative office space, an extensive retail marketplace and residential penthouses in the heart of the Pike-Pine neighborhood of Capitol Hill. The project combines the historic Chophouse building, built as an auto parts store in 1924 and used for decades as iconic band practice space, with a new office tower that features open plan workspaces with floor to ceiling windows and exposed steel structure. Salvaged materials were used throughout and the building features highly sustainable energy and water systems. A pedestrian mews and mid-block courtyard connects Chophouse Row through to Dunn & Hobbes' other 12th Avenue Marketplace properties." I do miss shuttered businesses such as Amandine, By Tae, Petti-Rosso, and Kurt Farm Shop, but I enjoy revisiting to see what new businesses have taken their place and newer ones to wander through. A big plus is the juxtaposition of the surrounding mixed materials and the sky above. It brings out my inner photographer. Also, the open courtyard is a great getaway especially during warmer months with their variety of outdoor seating and even during crisp autumn evenings when the firepit is lit.
