I have no clue on what happened to Northgate. I used to love this cozy alley way of a mall and it was vibrant and rich with diversity in shops and clientele. The kiosks were fun and it was one of the only places I could get a watch chrystal replaced. JC Penney's used to be cool and the smell of Ivars, Subway, Taco Bell and Panda Express brought back the 90's nostalgia of cd's and getting new kicks. Fast forward to 2025 and the indoor mall has been closed for a long time. The only thing left is a shell of Red Robin's, Nordstrom Rack, and the outside businesses such ad chipotle AT and T and Barnes and Nobles. I was reminiscing on Blue Finn buffet, Azteca and Bed Bath. I guess there's lots of remodeling going on and the Kraken ice rink is built which draws a different vibe. It feels more disjointed as a mall and more of a huge lot with random businesses that are mismatched. Target across the way is still going strong but the crime in that area is high. I miss the old Northgate and the community vibe it attracted. read more

A mall. It has mall-walkers, stores, fast-food, and large hallways with fluorescent lighting. Not unique by any means, it gets the job done when you need to pick something up, find a gift, have a snack or meal, and get a sample at See's candy! It's a great alternative for indoor play space in the small play area at one end of the mall, but can get busy and the older children have a tendency to plow into the smaller ones. read more

Drove 20 minutes to get here and it's completely blocked off, maybe torn down? That's how bad it was, honestly don't even know if it exists and I was right there. Lots of abandoned stores. Big changes are taking place here, and the mall as we used to know it is all but gone. A majority of the mall stores closed due to the hockey practice arena being built, and light rail is under construction as well, but there are a surprising number of shops still open, and the baby and toddler play area on the north end next to Old Navy is a fantastic resource for families, albeit not heated very well. Around midday during the week there were just a handful of other parents and their children, which is so nice and serene compared to other play areas. On the south side, Red Robin and Nordstrom Rack still exist, while on the north Barnes and Noble and Old Navy are surviving the changes. There are good sales to take advantage of, as well! read more

Northgate Mall is not that great of a mall and average for the most part, thus the overall rating of 3 stars, out of 168 review thus far. My husband and I stopped by this mall last week while we were visiting Seattle. It was empty for the most part, but we did come during the day on a weekday. But according to a friend of ours, who lives here, the mall here is pretty empty most of the time and also is not his favorite mall in Seattle either. This Simon mall has Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Macy, JcPenny, etc. There is also a food court here that surprisingly has Piroshky-Piroshky and Ivar Seafood. But generally, I have never liked Simon malls. I feel that they do not take care of their malls and tend to be outdated. Westfield malls are much better. This mall was pretty boring for the most part and wouldn't come back here. At least parking was plentiful and easy. read more

This mall is located right off the highway. To me all American malls are big with one or two floors. I usually don't come here to shop, don't know why. I prefer Westfield Southgate mall or like most Canadians Bellevue Square comes up because that is what most Canadian know about. Well this mall has lots of parking, like any other Canadian mall. Maybe one reason why I don't shop here most is because I am too lazy to turn off the highway. Well Westfield Southgate has Jollibee and Seafood City etc and Bellevue Square has some surrounding nice restaurants (outside). But this one mall doesn't have much that stands out. I mean it would be great if they have something that other malls don't have, then it would definitely motivate me to come here more often. Once in awhile I do come here. I have lived in the Seattle metro for about six years while Steve was here just a bit longer... about eight months longer. He came to Northgate Mall and thought it was a mall that did not have a "dying" status and was in pretty good shape. Well finally just last weekend and six years later I finally made it to this mall with Steve and it was a bit different than what he remembered. There are a lot of vacant spaces in the mall now and lots of businesses had closing sales as we were walking around. Definitely the mall is no longer in a state of thriving. We took advantage of closing sales at Spencer's and Macys which was nice. I always love "carcass picking" events when it comes to closing stores. I am a bit surprised that this mall is as small as it was. I was expecting something like Southcenter where there are at least two floors of shops and services but that wasn't the case here at all. Just one level. It is an old mall however and perhaps the builders did not anticipate that the metro area would grow so much back when it first opened in the 1950's. The land where Northgate Mall is not heading towards a dead end however. There are massive redevelopment plans in the works and in the area mixed residential and retail is planned. Not only that but a light rail stop is going to be included close to the area. So big plans and a bright future are planned here. But probably not so much for this building itself and most of the businesses inside it as most likely the building is going to be leveled so the new development can take place. read more

I come here often but normally just go directly into the several regular stores I buy stuff from. It is often busy on weekdays and weekends. They always have some sort of sale going on at different stores. It is convenient because they have different products from clothing to cellphones (cases), home/kitchen supplies to kids' toys, gift shops, Macy's, JCPenny, Nordstrom, food court, etc. I enjoy stopping by its food court after shopping. The food court has a variety of selection such as Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Greek, ice cream, etc! read more

I had a single terrible experience at Northgate. This review is not so much about the stores separately but rather about the mall in general. I really needed an outfit for an event, and Northgate was the closest shopping mall to me at the time. After walking through stores for hours, I had to use the restroom. The only ones close to me were the public family restrooms. First off, there were only two family restrooms on the end of the mall. They were both occupied, and there was a woman waiting in line before me. One of the restrooms opened up and a mid-to-late 20's couple walked out holding hands -- reg flag number one. The woman in line went in and I waited for the second bathroom. When the second one opened, a man stumbled out and could barely walk straight -- reg flag number two. At first I thought about not going in, but decided it probably wasn't a big deal. I was very wrong. There was a liquor bottle next to the trashcan and BLOOD splattered all over the sink -- BIG RED FLAG NUMBER 3! AND what made it way worse was that the stumbling man knocked on the door and asked me to check the floor because he had dropped his cigarette in there!! What?!? Also, I'm glad they're thinking of all the diabetics out there, but I didn't know it was standard to have a dirty sharps container in the restrooms? And for those people who need the sharps container, why was there blood everywhere on the sink?!? Just a very unpleasant experience. The mall itself is fine, but they seriously need to reconsider upping their security or something. read more

Welcome to the First Suburban Shopping Mall in America. 1950. Yes, it's true. I have been shopping here my whole life, as did my parents and grandparents, sisters, cousins, neices--you name it. Mall prices generally keep me away, but I like to get out of the house once in a while on a nice rainy day and go here for the sheer coziness of it, not to mention a visit to the food court. Right now the west side of the mall is a mess and 1/3 of the entire parking area has been displaced (see pictures). I couldn't tell you much more about Northgate Mall that you don't already know, except that if it's your first time in Seattle you should go here, because it's not too big, not too small, not to bright or too dark--quintessential shopping for the upper crust. Not that I'm upper crust, mind you, Northgate Mall is just a nice place to go. Game Stop, Starbucks, As Seen on TV store, GNC, Sprint are just some of the highlights. Right now (4/2/2016) it's best to park on the east side of the mall, or the parking garage to the south to avoid the mess on 1st Ave. NE (which, btw, is getting better). Northgate is where I go when I want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a suburban mall shopping experience. It's not the best mall. It's not the worst. And it's not too far from Seattle, so there's a win! I've kind of established that this is a good mall to geek out in if you like video games, comics, and geek culture. First of all, there is a ThinkGeek. I used to drive out of my way to come here until I slowly realized ThinkGeek has terrible quality goods. But it's still fun to come in and look at all the merch and collectibles! There is also a pretty nicely stocked GameStop. It's also been like 10 years since I walked inside a Spencer's Gift Shop, but they have one and it's stocked with comic, video game, and other geeky merchandise. There's also a Hot Topic for similar merch. Lastly, there is a large Barnes & Noble attached with a dope toy, collectibles section upstairs and comic/graphic novel sections. Beauty and fashion wise, I'd rather just shop downtown in Seattle or head out to Bellevue. But there is a small Sephora, plus Nordstrom, which is always a plus! Parking is always a breeze. I even came here for some last min holiday shopping once and it was like night and day compared to the rush and crowds at all the other malls. read more

This mall isn't terrible, but it isn't great either. How's that for a helpful review? They've got the basics down-- Ben Bridge, Macy's, Nordy's, and even a Nordstrom Rack. Red Robin, Blue C, California Pizza Kitchen, Chipotle round out some of the food choices. I end up coming here a lot because it is so close and I enjoy free parking. This is the kind of place you could probably knock out most of your holiday shopping, and with Best Buy, Ross, a sporting goods store, and Target across the way, it might save a lot of time. read more

I've never been to Northgate Mall until yesterday and I found quite a few deals. Among the best were nail polish promotion buy 2 and get 1 free at Ulta, baby onsies for $3 at Crazy 8's and winter jacket at Forever 21 for $10. The Sephora is a smaller version located inside JC Penny so they didn't have everything. I really hate that this is the closet mall to me now since moving. This mall is so basic, that it's almost worth it to make the trip to South Center. I understand and respect the history of the mall, as I know that it has been here for a long time, but change is desperately needed. A very basic and kind of small mall. i went last Saturday and despite all the cars in the parking lot, it was pretty dead inside. Either online shopping or people just don't come here too much. What was most disappointing were the Christmas decorations, or lack thereof. It is December now but there was barely anything put up, just a few reefs, red ribbons, and lights. It made for a depressing trip for me and I couldn't wait to leave. Malls are know for going all out for Christmas so I was surprised at what I saw. I believe the mall is also all one level as well. I took the bus, so I don't know the parking situation. Most likely, I won't come back for awhile. I was looking for a pair of shoes, but ended up leaving because I forgot what I came there for in the first place. read more

Northgate Mall is very much a shopping mall worthy of three stars out of five stars. It is in a fairly central location in Seattle close to I-5, it is somewhat large and offers a few interesting things to do, and it has the Pokemon Center vending machine. Other than that, this mall is pretty plain, but I will admit that I visit this mall more than I would like to simply because I often coincidentally end up in the area anyway. The food court is acceptable except for the part where the bathrooms are closed for some reason, so they expect you to go to J. C. Penney and use their bathroom instead. For men, this also means taking the elevator down one floor just to use the bathroom. Yeah, this is a mall without a convenient bathroom. It's utterly ridiculous and I came close to giving two stars for that reason, but I'm sure (at least I hope) that they'll fix it soon. Parking is ample and there are some more interesting stores like Target and Best Buy right across the street. Northgate Mall is basically in the middle of an entire district devoted to shopping, and while the mall itself doesn't necessarily have the best stores around, there is often a good reason for me to stop by the area and spend way more time and money than I would like. Wish I'd seen the reviews saying that most of the stores have been replaced by an ice rink before I went there. Unfortunately I'd found a description online saying Northgate Mall had over 100 stores, not realizing it was outdated. This review is solely about the Northgate Mall's parking lot, because let's face it, that's what 90% of us are going to use. Like other modern parking locations, Northgate has over the years been making its parking spaces narrower and narrower. That, combined with some bonehead design decisions, has now made Northgate's NW open parking lot difficult to navigate. I took photos, so you can see for yourself if maybe I'm just a grumpasaurus today. Problem 1: they've mounted signposts *in the parking spaces*, taking up precious space and forcing you to drive like an Olympic slalomist just to get in the spot without hitting the sign. Problem 2: they took out the raised concrete margins of the parking spaces, the ones people use to walk among the cars and to the shops, and converted them into trash dumps/bioswales. There's even a sign telling you NOT to walk on them (but instead do the limbo between cars to go walk in the car traffic lane). I'm sure in a few dozen years, the trash piling up in the ditches will bring them back up to ground level and restore them as walking routes. read more

I like their HH and the fact I can get reward points. Other than those two things. Their menus are way over priced and nor a big fan of the memu. There's not that many vegetarian choices that are healthy. This is just my opinion. Who in their right mind pay $17.95 for fried Halibut fish an chips. I understand I can order off off the menu, come on I don't the is all that good for the prices and don't get me started on the wine list. I consider myself a wine expert, but the markup on their wines are ridiculous especially WA and OR wine. Just crazy to me. The bartender s are all great I finally see a female behind the bar Kudos to that. I've only lodge my buttons only at the bar. Lol! I'm the greatest lush their is ever. Any way HH is not a bad deal between 3-6 pm. I travel a lot btw here and Portland for work and their rewards can come in handy. So I give them 4 star, because I've always had good experiences every time I come here. read more

It is anchored by Bed Bath & Beyond, JCPenney, Macy's and Nordstrom. An open-air retail hub in the northern environs of Seattle, Northgate Mall was one of the first post-war, suburban mall-type shopping centers in the United States. Originally known as Northgate Center, it began business with 18 stores in April 1950. By 1952, the fully leased structure housed over seventy tenants,[1] and the adjoined 4-story Northgate Building medical/dental center and Northgate Theatre, which seated over 1300 patrons.[2] Northgate was the first of three Puget Sound-area malls developed by Allied Stores (parent company of The Bon Marché) and designed by Seattle architect John Graham, Jr. The development was built over part of Thornton Creek, on land that had been a cranberry bog in Maple Leaf neighborhood.[3][4] Northgate was the first regional shopping center in the United States to be described as a mall, in this instance a double row of stores facing each other across a covered pedestrian walkway, and was the first mall to have public restrooms In 1952, Redmond sculptor Dudley C. Aww, Northgate Mall isn't that bad is it? At least I don't think so! I mean sure it may not be as huge as Alderwood Mall but I think it's getting better. The movie theater opened up next door and there's a Chipotle, Panda Express and The Ram, etc. What more can you ask for? It definitely feels nicer than it did a few years ago when I first came to Seattle for college. I like smaller malls because then I don't have to walk so far and the food court is good enough, in my opinion! I love that there's a Bank of America cause that's definitely convenient. There's lots of parking and it's in a great location. Close to restaurants, the suburbs and the I-5. I like Northgate Mall! No complaints here. read more

Meh. This mall is kind of small and the lighting in the mall is not very good. There is now a Nordstrom Rack here but unfortunately it's still not connected inside to the rest of the mall. You have to leave the main mall area to go to Nordstrom Rack. The mall stores are standard. Macy's, Nordstrom, JCPenney (they really need to update their exterior sign - it is still the old arial font one). There's something about the Macy's store that has this weird open roof thing going on inside (you'll see what I mean when you get there) that has always bothered me too. If you live around here, I'm sure this mall is adequate enough. But if not, Bellevue Square Mall or even the Westlake Center shopping area (+ Pacific Place) are a lot better in terms of the stores and presentation. Parking can be tricky on weekends. So come early or take public transit if available! read more

I've been to the Northgate Mall dozens of times through the years. The mall appears huge from outside, but it's actually smallish/medium. It's one long hallway with the food court and some stores and a couple restaurants with outside entrances only. There is also one free standing restaurant. There are only two locations for restrooms in the mall and they are on far opposite sides of it. The parking lot is huge but it's always packed. The best place to find parking is on the east side. Security freaks out if you park on the south side by Nordstrom Rack to walk over to the movie theatre. read more

Hmmm... Maybe it's because I'm from the Big Island of Hawaii so I'm not overly spoiled with shopping centers in the first place but I really don't understand all the bad reviews. It's clean and I like how the center is wide enough that you don't have to constantly dodge other people. It's not gigantic like the Westfield one but has a great selection of stores and restaurants in my opinion. I'll be back to shop and eat more, that's for sure! read more

I friggin' hate Northgate Mall and it's not just because I worked there throughout high school! Can this mall get it's act together? Even Southcenter has gotten itself together! Northgate is home to the worst Nordstrom ever, the cheapest shoppers on earth and the most offensive and annoying kiosk people. I was honestly treated better by the time-share salespeople at the airport in Mexico than the kiosk people at Northgate. What is with them? I try to walk by without making eye-contact but BAM! This mall, for lack of a better word, is ghetto. Ghetto with a capital G. The stores are often darkly lit and lacking in merchandise (particularly stuff that was listed in the Sunday ads). And the people...oh, the people here are strange. Seriously...one could spend an entire day people-watching here. One time I watched a mother drag her kid, who was crying VERY loudly, across the food court. Halfway across, the kid pukes everywhere, but the mother continues to drag the kid by the hand. The puke continues in a long streak across the ground until the kid finally lets up. My friend and I stare in amazement as the mother ignores the puke that is now all over the floor AND her child...and continues at a rapid pace down the the mall. What the hell? And that isn't even the weirdest Northgate people watching story I've got! Also, they have this one kiosk in the middle of the mall where these guys relentlessly try to get you to try their products. They come at you from all sides and I've often had to practically jog to get past them. I'm not even sure what product they sell because I'm always trying to avoid eye contact with them. They are trying really hard to remodel, add new stores, and give it a clean, shiny feel...but it's not really working. This mall will never be the classy, nice mall that Alderwood is. But go ahead and keep trying, Northgate. read more

This mall sucks. The only reason I would go here is for two reasons: Arc Works and that over-priced sushi buffet. If you have the extra 10 minutes, I'd suggest driving to Alderwood Mall instead. It's 10 exits away and much much much better. This place is just... old and needs renovation. When you go inside it feels cold and gray. It's just not a place that makes you want to spend money. You feel inclined to get what you came for and go. Oh, and by all means, do not go to that store that sells used electronics. It smells like ass. You've been warned. read more

What do you want in a mall? If it's just a covered place with most of the stores you want to visit, this will do. There is food there, and the food court employees are unusually cheerful and nice, the food is about what you'd expect, but the service is much better. This mall is outdated compared to others like Alderwood and Southcenter. From the outside they have really shaped up, but once your inside the mall, it suddenly doesn't seem like they have changed. The food court is abysmal. There are no healthier options at all, only a subway (which I don't consider healthy). Your best bet for any palatable food is the Nordstrom Cafe, Chipotle or Panera Bread (which are on the outside of the mall). The two stars are purely for the amount of parking space and easy bus routes. read more

I remember when I would go to malls to walk around and actually shop. Now I run in and get the hell out. This mall has nothing interesting, honestly. Everything seems run down and depressing which for some reason stresses me out. So I normally have a few drinks before shopping and that helps take the edge off, but once the alcohol wears off I die. Check their website for any stores before stopping here... may be a complete waste of time. Also- this Nordstrom doesn't carry much. read more
