For the Play Area (by CPK): While the sign clearly says this area is "unattended" by mall personnel, that does NOT mean that parents are off the hook for discipling their own children and keeping them in line. It's a nice break for parents and kids, I get it, but it needs to be safe and fun for everyone. I don't care about the occasional bump/collision/accident -- they're kids, it's going to happen -- but if your kid is sprinting full speed around the enclosure, knocking smaller kids over and/or hogging a fixture with no regard for sharing or taking turns (repeatedly), they need to be told their behavior isn't okay. Pushing, shoving, HITTING -- not acceptable. EVERY.TIME. we've come here, a rag-a-muffin is roughing up the place/other children while the parent is either NOT THERE (and Security was called) or immersed in their phone. The mall isn't great anyways, go somewhere else to shop with the kiddos. Ridiculous. read more

Hmmm... Maybe it's because I'm from the Big Island of Hawaii so I'm not overly spoiled with shopping centers in the first place but I really don't understand all the bad reviews. It's clean and I like how the center is wide enough that you don't have to constantly dodge other people. It's not gigantic like the Westfield one but has a great selection of stores and restaurants in my opinion. I'll be back to shop and eat more, that's for sure! read more

Ahh, good old Northgate Mall. The main building hasn't changed a whole ton since I was a kid, besides the additions of more restaurant options besides just Azteca, California Pizza Kitchen, Red Robin and the Food court. They tore down the old cinema (with only one screen I believe) here and replaced it with a Barnes and Noble. There's a new large cinema across the street, along with apartments, more restaurants, and a larger newer park and ride. Yaay sprawl. Plus one star for nostalgia- I remember going to the old cinema to see Independence Day on July 3rd, a 10:00 pm pre-opening day evening showing, and remember at the end of the movie, the entire crowd stood up and cheered and applauded. It was pretty cool. In any case, I end up here a lot because I live really close by, I prefer other malls to this one based on their limited selection of shops. They do have a DSW which is pretty awesome, but don't have a Hot Topic or Lane Bryant in this mall anymore. It's more the surrounding area of the mall that actually does this mall any justice. There is a Target, Best Buy, and BevMo all across from the main mall. read more

I am very unimpressed with some of the previous reviews...What exactly do you expect to find in a mall??? Why would shopping in a mall be a reflection of anything else except "shopping, because I need or want stuff" ...come on folks, stop digging way too deep on that one. With that said, this is a good shopping option for a quick stop at Nordstrom or Express. They have a wide variety of stores, just as any other MALL, a great shoe repair place and a few places for a quick bite. What else exactly does a mall need? I used to shoplift here a LOT as a teenage miscreant. Chiefly my prey consisted of makeup and batteries at Woolworth's (my ghetto blaster gobbled 8 D batteries and them shit's expensive) and smokes from the QFC way up at the south end. Nowadays, it's like any other mall. Some stuff's great and some stuff is BAD. these days, I generally pay for what I get here. Therefore, the thrill is gone... I try not to be in a position of need to come here. Most days where I have come here, that day suffers karmically (sp?) from it, like a blight on my soul. When the urge to shop in a mall happens, it's best to go take off your shoes and walk in some nice soft grass somewhere. Breathe deeply. Then go home and BBQ something. read more

It's not U-Village, but it's good. They have a panera bread, so that makes me happy. They also have a California Pizza Kitchen which was odd for me to see in WA. I had to give a double take. I like this mall because it has everything I need all bundled together: Nordstrom, Forever 21, Panera Bread, Barnes & Noble. The new movie theater is VERY nice. I also like the close proximity to places like Target. All in all as a mall, it's ok. As an area it's 4 star! I personally like it much better than Southcenter. read more

I want to like you Northgate mall. I want you to remind me of a better time or at least a more youthful time. A time when Contempo Casuals was still real, when Hot Topic was not a front for the Disney Store, & when Victoria's Secret didn't sell pants with the word 'Pink' in the butt. But alas a walk through the Northgate mall makes it very clear those days are over. There are things I appreciate about the mall: two places to get MAC products (the stand alone MAC counter & the MAC counter located inside the Nordstroms). There are multiple places to buy pretzels & bubble tea, although they are not the same places (...wait is that a million dollar idea brewing?!). Attached to the mall there are some restaurants, my favorite of which is the Panera complete with lovely wifi & Barnes & Noble. But even though the Northgate mall provides me with access to seasonal 3-wick candles at Bath and Body Works, it doesn't make up for the chaos of screaming children and the fact that for some reason people walk in slow moving lines in this mall. In the end it is simply a mall just a mall - nothing wildly special about it. read more

I can agree with a lot of the other reviewers, this isn't the best mall around. It's okay if you are in the area and know what you need, other than that I try to stay away. Compared to Alderwood Mall and Southcenter Mall, this is the ghetto relative. I have been here many times and always have a hard time finding anything that catches my fancy. It's a lot smaller than Alderwood and Southcenter which takes away from having the expanded variety. Between my wife and I, we both have noticed that the customer service in some of the stores is horrible and severely lacking. Granted the food court here has decent variety along with having Red Robin, it's not much different than other malls. I do have to say that the additions of Chipotle, Panera Bread, The Ram and the other restaurants outside are a good improvement from what they used to have. But with all that said, it's still not enough to give it more than 3 stars. read more

I am on a roll today with my 3 stars, A-OK rating for my reviews but hey what can I say, it is what it is when it comes to my reviews and experiences, and this mall ain't no better, unfortunately. I was actually pretty excited to see alot of improvements from the outside. I knew it had been through a remodel and also had some additions but unfortunately it was still the same ole Northgate... lacking in stores, options and just overall appeal. OK, before we go slamming Northgate for its lameness compared to Alderwood, did you know there's some history here? Yes, Northgate is widely known as the world's first Mall, opening in 1950. It was initially open, then encolosed in 1975 to compete with SouthCenter. What else is notable about Northgate? Well, not much. The T-Mobile kiosk on the north end is the only other official T-Mobile store in Seattle, other than downtown. Also, it boasts a pretty good food court for a mall its size, in addition to a Red Robin. Target, Best Buy, and GI-Joe's are across the street (be careful when crossing on foot though, it's kind of a weird intersection). Nortgate works, but the thing is everything you'll find there can be found at Alderwood, with a lot more. And, it lacks the charm of some other smaller malls like Bellevue Crossroads. Northgate is nice to have a few minutes away from my house, but I don't exactly wake up every morning thanking the Heavens for it. read more

Not as nice as Alderwood, but calling Alderwood "classy" is like putting lipstick on a pig. Its no Bellevue Square. I do have to say the Forever 21 here is one of the best I've ever seen. It is possibly even bigger than the one at the Beverly Center. And its relatively orderly. Not that I shop there or anything... The facelift is nice, makes it look less scary. The parking situation is pretty bad, but if you get there before 1, its ok. The MAC counter area outside of Nordstrom was very helpful one day, and its super-nice to have the natural light come through. The rest of the Nordstrom is so tiny, its like a waste of time. And Ulta----that place is like a toy store for adults. Their staff is usually super helpful as well. Nice addition to theNorthwest, where you need makeup in the gray!!! read more

Northgate Mall is fairly close to downtown Seattle! This mall seriously needs restrooms closer to each exit though! I totally had to run from one end of the mall to the food court just to PEE yes, I said it. I did a little shopping here & really loved it, its a cozy mall real cute for being an indoor mall - I'm use to outdoor malls since I'm from California. I was really fascinated with the MACYS -I really like how it was architecturally built, the outside of it was real nice. I also saw a lot of Sanrio products that weren't pertaining to Hello Kitty- Other than that I had fun at this mall and nothing else really impressed me. Totally would come here again though.. It's okay. Maybe I'm just spoiled from going to Bellevue Square more often, but... They have the main stores, but most of the smaller ones are... cheap and/or boring. Easy on/off access to I5. Parking can be a pain - if it's busy you'll park far from any entrance (which is a pain with little kids). Pushy sales people at the stands in the center of the walkways in the mall. I'd bump it up another star if I wasn't constantly asked to try/buy stuff ALL THE TIME. read more

Ah, Northgate..how shall I review you? lol. Northgate is a mall, it has lots of parking, it's convenient to get to from Seattle, and it has a good variety of stores. I don't really like going to the mall in general, but this one is alright. It has a good variety of stores, however, it really should have some more of the stores that Southcenter has. Southcenter is great, but it's a bit further of a drive. Northgate could really use an Aldo, Zara, H&M, and some other stores. It has some decent restaurants there as well, such as RAM, Red Robin, Panera, and others, so if you like to grab food after shopping, it's quite convenient. A decent mall. Not as good as South Center/Tukwilla but it's okay. There's a food court which I've never eaten at, because if there's a Chipotle I will always, ALWAYS eat there. A Starbucks too. The Macy's and Gap aren't great. There's also Express and Forever 21 but I don't recall an H&M. I've been impressed with the JCPenney's here I have to say-they're always running sales and I've been pleasantly surprised with some good finds. The Japanese store is pretty cool. You probably won't buy anything but it's fun to look. It is weird and confusing that Bed, Bath & Beyond and DSW.. you have to drive around to the other side of the mall because they don't have a mall entrance..? What the hell?? read more

Small mall who if tried to identify itself as a hill would be conquered within twenty minutes. Additional sidequests include food courts, departmental stores, and Barnes & Noble. Currently in a renovation phase as the blue collar team construct parking spots, light-rail system, and additional restaurants for increase foot traffic. Heck, I walked through this thing my entire 4th year of college to get shelter from the cold. Not going to bash it. Good hours, stores that I can actually afford and chain food so I can grab it and split. It's a mall. It's in Northgate. There is everything you'd expect here. You have: mall food, department stores (many of which have a dated selection relative to downtown Seattle), mall kids, loud noises, annoying families, a few punks, warmth from the cold on a cold rainy Seattle day. This is a pretty typical Simon Property Group mall. All the stores you would typically expect to see in a mall (Macy's, Nordstroms, Footaction, Finishline, Champs, Sheikh, Vans, Skechers, Hot Topic, See's Candy, Express etc.) are at this location. Pros: Parking is pretty easy to find and it isn't insanely crowded on a weekday afternoon. This is the closest mall to U-District/Fremont without having to drive through downtown Seattle. Cons: Compared to other malls, this one is relatively smaller. There's only one level and you can walk from one end to the other in a few minutes at a brisk pace. read more

Northgate is, sadly, rather mediocre. I say "sadly" because it's the easiest one for me to get to and, while I don't typically like malls, I do prefer a mall that has a number of stores I'd be inclined to patronize. Now, I didn't realize that Northgate had done any remodeling or added new stores and restaurants. Perhaps I'll have to swing up there some day (maybe today, got nothing better going on - and then I could hit up Super Buffet again) and check it out. If I do, I'll update my review. From the very first time I walked into Northgate Mall, I was disappointed. I'm from the Midwest and West Acres Mall in Fargo, ND has a better selection of shops than Northgate does. Haters gonna hate, but my tiny little mall has the essentials: Nordies, Nordy Rack, Piroshky Piroshky (what?!! Oh yes.) plus Brookstone, Loft, Old Navy, Hot Topic, and the other usual suspects. This season there's even malasadas at the new Hawaii Donut booth next to Starbucks by the food court. They have really upped their food game here and while parking is tough anywhere on the I-5 side of the mall, parking spaces abound in the garage by JCP. Downside: there's no covering on the walkway between the garage and JCP - wear your hood! Even on Black Friday I didn't feel overcrowded in there. Having been to Alderwood, which is much larger in area this morning (and full of every teen from Marysville and the ferry accessible Kitsap down to Edmonds,) I can fully appreciate what Northgate has to offer. read more

Oh, about 6 months ago, I'd give this mall 2 stars. It was old and wrinkly and kinda smelly. HOWEVER! Holy crud pies, they've had themselves a little plastic surgery and they are looking good. What a little renovation will do for a ol' mall! Get rid of Gottschalk's (whatever that was), add about a thousand decent restaurants & stores and a Barnes/Noble and you got yourself a decent mall. Add 2 stars from me! And take away one of those newly minted stars for the traffic that exists now and far into the future. Nice try. read more

Years ago, Northgate Mall was my secret gem. It was a little run down but had most of the stores I liked to shop at. Today, Northgate has transformed and I don't like it much. It has retained 4 stars with me because of the variety of stores and services offered. Restaurants - I can honestly say that I am completely disinterested in the large food offerings such as the Ram and Macaroni Grill. I am pleased to see the additions of Chipotle and Cafe Pho. Department Stores - JCPenney's, Macys, and Nordstrom are the staples. Although many seem to like the JCPenney's remodel, I'm not one of them. Their inventory seems to have shrunk. I still enjoy going to Macys and Nordstrom more than I do at other locations. Stores - I think Northgate has a good (not great) variety of store offerings. I don't make too much of this since there really is limited space and there's not a lot you can do about that. Food Court - The food court has seen little change over the years. However, some of the changes confuse me. For instance, removing Taco Time and replacing it with Taco Bell? Clearly, the concern was not better food, but cheaper food. I do enjoy the music videos playing on the screens. I think the current layout of tables is crowded and make me want to sit on the very edges where I don't get bumped by others. Parking - Don't get me started! Gone are the days when parking was ample at Northgate. I think it's a combination of more staff and poor parking design. The planters, while nice to look at, are traps for cars trying to cut the corner on narrow aisles. I have seen numerous cars stuck in the planters to which property security responds - we can't help you. Bathrooms - Horrendous! I'm not sure why they are so dirty - whether people are really messy or there is not enough staff to take care of them. They smell, and are all around...dirty. In the end, I can often get what I need at Northgate when visiting a mall. I miss the days of the old Northgate but have tried to roll with the punches. read more

If I were a zombie, this would be a perfectly cromulent mall for me to shamble about in, looking for braaaaaiiiiiiins. Look, it's a mall. It's not easy to wax rhapsodic over a mall. But I will say this: since I moved here18 years ago, the Northgate Mall has been transformed from an oddly dated place with a bizarre, retro vibe into a fully contemporary shopping experience. The food court was totally remodelled a while back, and it has a lot of nice offerings. I can get a good combo plate of Thai food, I can get my Fish 'N Chips on, I can get a Mexi-Meal, or ice cream, or a slice of 'za. I can get coffee at Starbucks. The newsstand sells American Spirits and there's a really dour, stone-faced asian guy who works there, and I always feel like he's right on the verge of berating me for something. If I'm feeling more upscale I can get the Royal Red Robin Burger at Red Robin - that's a burger with a fried egg on top. That's right biatches, breakfast and lunch all at once. There's a really nice full bar there too. Northgate Mall has these awesome massage chairs that will ruin your back for a dollar and leave you wanting more. Hmm, what else - you can wander into the department stores and sample fancy men's fragrances. Azteca is quite nice and also has a full bar. I've gotten excellent service there. California Pizza Kitchen is the bomb too. The Ram is really nice, the bookstore rocks- There's an 'as seen on TV' store if you need a Snuggie or a Billy Mays product. There's one of those knife stores with a suit of armor. Damn, I started this out as a 3 star review, but I'm making it 4 stars, because I just convinced myself that the Northgate Mall is really a damn fine mall. Plus, it's surrounded by other cool places like the new movie theater complex and the Target, so it's really just a part of a larger continuum of awesome things. Braaaaaiiiiinnns! read more

Sure, its not a nice nor big as Southcenter, but its getting there as they have remodeled over the past years with parking garages, interior design, movie theater, dining, etc. It's not so bad after all. Trust me! Personally, I love Northgate Mall, because I always find awesome deals here! I've noticed that department stores (Macys) & even smaller stores (AE) have MORE discounted items in their store, versus a larger mall like Alderwood. I've seen the same shirt or jeans in each location, and the one at Northgate is always cheaper, and reduced faster. Perhaps its a thing with smaller malls, trying to get rid of old stuff & bring in new inventory? Anyway, if you are looking for some good bargains on new outfits, check out this mall, where you will find lots of clearance items. If you are looking for a wider selection of accessories and outfits, than go to a larger mall. What I also like about this mall is that it has a Forever 21. (And a pretty darn good size too). Bellevue Square does not! The one at Alderwood is smaller too, with fewer clothing outfits. This mall is great if you are looking for a few particular stores, not too big that you don't know where the heck you are at, good for lots of clearance and on-sale items, good for a quick bite at Panera, Macaroni Grill, The Ram, CPK. They even have a bookstore (large Barnes & Noble), a Bank of America, and a movie theater right across! Plus, there is tons of space for parking. Head across the street where you will find Target, Ross, and Best Buy for your electronic goods, and groceries. :) read more

Northgate mall is small, kind of sad with the lack of cool stores, yet I still seem to be able to get all the stuff I need done here. - Independant alterations place in the mall WITH mall hours! - a few good resturants to grab dinner: Twig, Nordstrom Cafe, CPK, & the RAM. - 2 major department stores: Macy's & Nordstrom. JCPenny with it's new concepts is looking actually pretty good. - Decent hair salons: Gene Juarez & Wild Root If you're in a pinch and don't feel like going North to Alderwood or East to Bellevue or deal with parking downtown, it might be worth going to Northgate. read more

The less busy mall, loads of parking, great shops. Right next to a huge bus depot, so if you travel by bus, it is great. The mall is not the biggest mall, but it is very useful. Great shopping in the area as well. This is the area i spent alot of time at when I was a teenager. The place has changed some, but all for the better. Northgate mall is perfect to shop and get what you need, with out all the parking frustrations. read more

Great place for pan handling, secuity bad, place gone to pot so to speak

I had the misfortune of visiting Northgate Mall yesterday. I will not make that mistake again. My wife, granddaughter and I were shopping at the mall, when my granddaughter wanted go in Old Navy. She pleaded, "Just five minutes". My wife and granddaughter went in the store, I stayed outside and sat down in a chair to wait, Fifteen minutes I closed my eyes, I had closed them, opened them, you know to way it goes. I suddenly had someone smack me on my shoulder and tell me, "There's no sleeping in the mall, please move on." It was the security guard. He, then, walked away without any other communication. I will be moving on, to shop elsewhere, which is what I suggest you do. read more
