Best winery on the central coast. I've been wine tasting in the Paso Robles area for 25 years and somehow this one escaped my notice. Recently it's appeared on some of my online searches and in a yelp review by someone whose taste in wine I trust. So when my wife and I took a short trip to the area recently I made an appointment to stop in for a tasting. Note: since Covid many wineries only take appointments for tastings but some will still accept drop-ins if they can accommodate which is Fratelli Perata's policy. This is a very small family winery with limited production. You're not going to find their wines at a grocery store. We arrived on a weekday afternoon in the early afternoon after rambling down a long dirt road off the main highway. Surrounded by vineyards, we walked to the tasting room and were warmly greeted and invited to sit outdoors at one of the tables; we chose one shaded by the branches of a huge tree. This is not one of those castle-like, flamboyant tasting rooms but a small, comfortable, homey place. There were five red wines to be sampled that day. We sat and chatted with this informative "pourer", who we learned is one of the winemaker's daughters, as we tasted each one. All were superb and reminded us of flavors we loved while in Tuscany. If you enjoy Italian wines this is a stop you must make. After a relaxing hour we walked away with three bottles, each a different type. We put them in a cooler in our car (a necessity when wine tasting if you intend to buy) and, feeling mellow and happy, left with a promise to ourselves that we would definitely return again to what is now our favorite CA winery.

If you enjoy great Tuscan-style wines, this 4th generation winery is a must visit! Geno & Carole Perata purchased this acreage in the mid 80's, started planting grape varietals from their family homeland in Italy, staying true to the time honored wine making methods used by their ancestors. The first wines were produced in 1987. Today, Their children have grown up, with one a graduate of the UC Davis wine program, giving Geno more time to enjoy a glass or two of their fabulous wines .

Quaint tasting room and winery in the middle of gorgeous Paso Robles.

Fratelli Perata Winery was our first stop of the day on our wine excursion of Paso Robles, and needless to say it set the bar extremely high. The drive into Fratelli is absolutely gorgeous. After parking you walk amongst the beautiful vineyard until making your way into the quaint tasting room. You could instantly tell that this was a multigenerational Italian family as you were treated like an extension of their family. In fact, we started talking a lot about where our respective families were from and she broke out the Michelin map book of Italy, and low and behold our families were in neighboring villages in the Abruzzo region. Now the wines absolutely speak for themselves. The Charbono was to start which could be paired well with pesto. Next was their incredible Sangiovese which could have gone great with any spaghetti sauces. My favorite was definitely the Bel Bruzzo, full bodied and complex but with hints of fruit and not dry. We definitely purchased a number of wines to bring back to share with family/friends. We can't wait to come back to Fratelli!!!

Say yes to the 2014 Zin!

Fratelli Perata is one of those places you will insist on re-visiting, again and again. It is not because of a fancy pants tasting room. It is not because they have a really cool gift shop. It is not because the gardens are well manicured and inviting for a leisurely stroll while sipping. None of that exists. This is a simple place, a dirt road leading to the family home with a small building out back, a cut above scruffy, a 1965 green VW bug sitting in the garden, a patch of healthy artichoke plants in one corner. It is as warm and inviting as the delightful family members who claim FP as their own. The family is proud of its history. The small interior displays a huge mural on the wall of Genoa, Italy, the family home where Grandpa Peralta learned his craft. The specially cut labels on the bottles capture the essence of this mural. The wines are delicious, full, and ready to drink right now. And that is why we chose some excellent reds to bring home, the 2014 Zin and the 2013 Bel Bruzzo. This....is a find!

Our friends met us there. Tom and I had such a blast with the family history. The two sisters were so informational and sweet. We got to meet the mom too! Mom was a hoot. The flavor of the wine was so good. I was amazed how much we loved the taste. Tracy OCD couldn't get past the cobweb in the window and the clutter on the counters.... This was rustic and authentic like Paso was before the billionaires came in..My impression was we found a diamond in the rough and their focus was their wine... They did the best of the best with the grapes, process and bottling of the wine along with shipping it to you! Tom and I loved our experience and joined the wine club.

This is a hidden gem that I have been going to since they were just getting started. The Bambino and Cabernet wines are amazing.

Best wine offering for the price in Paso. Make sure you stop here, vines are from the mid 80s and offering for the price is incredible.

Amazing wines. So different from other wineries. They don't water down the wines and so your typical merlot is so different, but so good.

Once I heard what happened I was more sad but happy to hear the new owner wants to continue Vina Robles. I wish as a member I would have gotten notified. Went to their new location which was really convenient since we were going to other wineries near there. It's still a big location. Plenty of seating and they still offer food which we were happy about. Our server was super sweet and knowledgeable which I always appreciate when it comes to wine. We started a tasting and then just tried whatever she gave us which we weren't complaining. Haha. All the wine she was giving us was really good. I was really impressed by their food. I wanted more of everything. We got their bruschetta al Fresco, hummus, monte Bianca pizza, and one other pizza. I fell in love with their bruschetta. We got there right as there kitchen closed which was a bummer because I wanted more. Overall, I still enjoy their wine. Their location is really nice. Food is delicious. I booked it online and then reserved online in their website. No phone call was needed. We reserved noon on Saturday and after all of our party arrived we went upstairs to our lovely comfy leather sofas to settle in for the duration. We were given 4 pizzas of our choice and 4 salads and served buffet style so everyone could load their plate. We also added 3 orders of yummy meatballs. I cut them in half for serving. Artichoke hearts appetizer, charcuterie board and more. They provided juice boxes for the little boys in our party. The food was more than enough for Lunch. We could have fed more people and we took home a lot of pizza. The Italian sausage pizza was very good but we had the hot honey on the side as none of the group was interested in it. The wine was good, as usual. I had only whites. The rest of the group had the standard white then red tasting. The sparkling rose is also very good and upstairs you have dedicated bottle server. Service was excellent. They had live music downstairs and a market event going with vendors selling goods for the holiday season. I love this venue and will return soon. Improvement needed. Buy some large paper plates for the buffet lunch. It's a shared food event. All we had was tiny appetizer plates. We asked for larger but they had none. ** edit. Update. The manager replied and has ordered larger plates so I'm happy to hear this. We are already talking about coming back again. Dec 18, 2025 The Cesar salad had nice shaved cheese but no salad dressing.

We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.

Quality/Quantity - After tasting a few wines, I settled on a glass of Pinot Noir. Atmosphere - Small tasting room, bar, indoor, and outdoor seating. Plus tasting. Got lucky, as today they were bottling so we got to experience that a little. And due to the small size, they bottle via a trailer; see pictures. Plenty of Tin City parking, as we got here late and right before closing. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 5pm. Service - Emma was perfect. As usual, we were the only customers. We got all the attention. It felt like we were all just hanging out. (Or she was just so bored, lol). She shared so much information about the winery and Paso Robles. We compared stories and wineries, etc. Lastly, she gave us a tour of the facility as the production just ended. This was unexpected and really appreciated. Price - $18 + generous tip. I just got a glass of their Pinot Noir. Tastings are $20 a person and waived with two bottle purchases. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 2019. I can see why you are 5 stars; great service culture.

They were happy to accept us as walk-ins, and offered us our choice of seating. They have outdoor seating and indoor standing tastings at the bar, since we didn't have too much time we opted for a bar tasting with Kirsten (the wife of one of the owners). It was great learning about the wines, and the area of France that they are inspired by. The wines here are a little different than most you see in Paso, they have a lot of white wine and do a decent amount of skin contact on some of them. Some of the wines reminded me of natural wine, which I'm not the biggest fan of, but I know a lot of people who love them. I ended up leaving with a bottle of their 100% Pinot Blanc, a little sweeter than something I would usually go for, but I'm excited to drink it on a nice summer day!

What I appreciate most about DAOU is how they've managed to maintain a small, family-style atmosphere despite being acquired by a larger company a few years ago. I believe sometimes companies have off days, and employees may have a bad day, which can affect one's experience, thus I dont let one bad experience ruin a company's review. But when it comes to my CHILD, you best believe i will never forgive and forget or let our experience be forgotten. We visited this winery expecting a relaxing, family-friendly experience and instead left with our daughter crying after being scratched in the face near her eye by the owner's off-leash dog. What makes this especially frustrating is that the winery's own rules state dogs must be leashed, yet the owners' dogs were roaming the property freely. Our daughter was calmly petting one of the dogs with me standing directly beside her when the dog suddenly growled and scratched her across the face. This was completely unprovoked and witnessed by the owner himself, who said absolutely nothing afterward. No apology, no concern, no accountability. An employee later approached us and said, "Sorry, he's old and maybe didn't like that she was the same height as him, which made him react".....which felt less like accountability and more like an absurd attempt to excuse why a reactive dog was allowed to roam off leash around guests and children. We also observed the dogs behaving territorially toward other leashed dogs on the property, making it even more inappropriate that they were allowed off leash in a public setting. My father-in-law is a VERY well known, well respected, and prominent winemaker in Virginia and across the United States, if you know anything about wine, you know him. So lets say, we understand winery culture and hospitality, fairly well. Had something like this happened on his property, it would have been handled immediately and professionally with genuine concern for the injured guest.....especially a child. Watching the owner casually continue on in his conversation with whomever, and pet the dog like nothing happened while our daughter screamed and cried was honestly unbelievable. In my opinion, not worth the visit for the subpar wine, if you want to take your children/dog somewhere. The poodles were friendly to me, and other adults, until we saw their behavior to other dogs & then my child....The complete lack of concern from ownership after a child was injured was shocking. Frankly, they are fortunate we chose not to escalate the situation further. Parents should absolutely be cautious visiting here with children or pets. An off-leash dog with territorial behavior has no place interacting freely with guests. Absolutely shocked and the owner should be ashamed of his actions & response (or lack there of) to the situation.
