I originally thought that everything was slightly bland and just not as flavorful as the other Asian jerkies I find (to this day I still love the pork jerky I get from Bin Bin Konjac the best :X) HOWEVER, I still bought a few bags because I was really craving it, and I do like the melt-in-your-mouth texture of the thicker cut pork jerky. Now after munching on it in the car, I began to realize that I couldn't stop eating...and eating...and eating!!! Although the flavor isn't insane and popping in your mouth, it's subtle enough to keep your taste buds wanting more...needless to say, I gobbled up everything I bought within a day or two, so this place definitely deserves a 4 star on the ranking! FragrantJerky is delicious! But I'm disappointed at their online customer service (Eric L.). I ordered their product online on their website and did not receive all the items I ordered. So when I reached out, they said that the weight on their video record indicated all items were in the package. Basically, they implied that I was lying about not receiving the missing item. So heads up, if you order online and did not receive all the items ordered, don't expect for them to ship out missing item/s or receive a refund. Regardless of your defense of your employee I find it difficult to believe that she could not hear me yelling "quarter pound!" a dozen times but still somehow assumed I said half pound? All previously employees and interaction with your shop has never had this mistake and they always made sure the weight was always correct or would adjust it Anyway, look forward to supporting you more but the particular employee working today needs to confirm the weight before finalizing the cutting and packaging, just like it was previously always done in the past. read more

When I picked it up I asked if they had the gift box they had before, the helper said they don't have it anymore, then I asked why the package is not like the one when I ordered online, a better looking one, since this going to be gift for my co workers. She said only if I order half pound each. When I walk out the door, right away she told the other girl "she is stupid, xxxxxxx". In Chinese. I was still right there and I can still hear, and she is so loud. Then she is on and on and on how stupid I am for at least 5 mins. VEGANS BEWARE!!! Tried some while in the Bay Area and had plans to go to SoCal so this was a spot I needed to hit up. Amazon sells it too so that's always my other way of getting it. So this place is super small but when you walk in, the smell of deliciousness hits you in the face and it is very welcomed! Everything is good and the workers are so kind. You can try every kind of jerky in the shelf. But the one you gotta get is the spicy bacon! You wouldn't think of bacon for jerky but it is DAMN GOOD! Very rude service This does not even deserve one star. We waited 2 years to visit Fragrant. My friend and I had large orders and instead of appreciating our business which totaled $500.00 each we were rudely told that we were building up the line. Yes we are paying customers too and if we were nicely asked to return in an hour we would have gladly done so. Instead we as customers felt totally insulted not even a thank you. To make the customer feel even more embarrassed each customer that waited in the line was told by the male or female staff I'm sorry about the wait. You make your purchaser feel like why am I wasting my money here and not even a thank you just that annoyed look. We even let a customer with a big order go in front of us. With only one register as I was being rung up I totaled out my transaction so another person can be rung up. I was very polite and courteous to do this but no not even a thank you just that stressed out look and as if I had aggravated them. Can't handle the counter hire or train more people to work in front. We are paying customers too and waited our turn. I'd studied abroad in Singapore and visited family in Malaysia, so I'm very familiar with bakkwa--my absolute favorite snack. When I first heard about Fragrant Jerky, it was 2014 and I was living in the Bay Area, so I ordered some through their website. Then I ordered more. Then I moved back to OC and ordered more. Then, eventually, I was living in DTLA and coming by to buy some in person. Since my study abroad semester I've visited Singapore a couple more times and...the bakkwa here is leagues better. One of my cousins said it was because Singapore has very strict laws on the fat content and all that while Malaysia does not (the bakkwa here is also better than in Malaysia). I'm partial to the original bacon bakkwa because I'm not trendy and the bacon love of the early-mid 2010s has never died out for me, but the tender pork bakkwa, made from a mixture of the regular pork and the bacon, is very good as well. As much as I love beef, I tend to leave all varieties of beef bakkwa alone, but they do let you sample so don't my preferences stop you. If you want a big order, call ahead and they'll be happy to make it for you. Also, it does get more foot traffic around CNY, so be mindful of that. Otherwise, this is an awesome place to go to get a snack you really can't find anywhere else in the US, and definitely not at the same fantastic quality. read more

I did my research and found that this place was only about an hour drive away. Better yet, they will ship to anywhere in the US for lower prices than Amazon. Hell yeah! Seeing the rave reviews people and the LA Times bestowed upon them, as well as being intrigued by Singapore-style jerkies, I decided to use the power of the net once again, this time ordering meat to be delivered to my doorstep. Ah, America. Fast forward a couple of days, and I get a priority mail box tossed in the general direction of my front porch, courtesy of my surly mailman. F-you too, you envelope-flinging bastard *gives finger*. With that unpleasantness out of the way, I settled down to sample to goods inside; grilled pork belly jerky, SIngapore style. While the record-breaking heat may make mail order meats seem unappetizing, I'm unfazed, especially when pork belly, one of the finest of meats, is involved. After tearing into a vacuum-sealed pouch like Oprah on a KFC 12-piece, I get hit by the smoky aroma of grilled bacon; a hint of char, along with sweet notes from the marinades they used. The pork belly is medium-thickness; thick enough to stand on its own, and not so thin that it goes limp. After taking one bite, I was hooked; the meat is insanely tender, nicely marbled, and perfectly seasoned. So tender, that it really does melt in your mouth. The flavors are hard to describe, but the grill flavors mingling with the sweet, and savory from fish sauce and other spices, work so well together. So next time you're in their hood, or otherwise feel like having the USPS sling some meat your way, and have some extra coin to spend (jerky this good isn't cheap), give Fragrant Jerky a try. Stumble into this place before going to lunch. Now my husband doesn't have to bring in the beef jerky from Singapore back illegally in his baggage. This place taste just like the one we get in Singapore. Its a small shop and the husband is the one in the back making the different types of jerky and the wife is up front helping out the customers. We arrived right when it opened and they didn't have a lot of choices out but we tried the regular pork jerky and it was really good. We came back after lunch and picked some up. This place is a little difficult to find. The store is in the shopping center that Ivan dead ends into next to Quickly. I walked in there and was pleasantly surprised by the lady working the front. I do not speak chinese and do not look asian, and her english was flawless. She was really nice, and let me try every single type of Jerky. They were all amazing! My favorite was the pork varieties. Each large slice averages around 2.50 so I got four slices of different kinds. I cannot judge the authenticity but what I do know is that it was all delicious. The best beef jerky! We were on vacation in the West Coast last week. On our last day, we wanted to eat at the DTF in Arcadia. On our way to LAX, we decided to make a pit stop to San Gabriel to check out their Chinatown. I was looking at Yelp and noticed that they had a good amount of places that made/sold beef jerky. Fragrant Jerky had the best reviews, so we decided to check it out. Walking in, Fragrant Jerky is a small place. They displayed all of their jerkys and even offered tastes for whichever ones you wanted to try. We tried all of them. The black pepper beef jerky was my favorite, along with the spicy pork. What really blew my mind was the BACON JERKY. I have never seen it before. It was just glistening and looked so delicious. When we tried it, it just melts in your mouth. All of the jerkys are so moist and flavorful. The owners were super friendly and helpful. Jeff is awesome! I didn't catch the lady's name. He explained their process of making it and how they ship their product all over the world. It is definitely good to know considering I won't be able to make it California a lot just to pick up some jerky. I think we ended up leaving with over 6 pounds of jerky. Some people may think it is expensive, but it is worth it for the quality of the meats they use. The beef and pork are both lean. I'm in love. Been wanting to try the jerky here for awhile and today I finally had some time to stop by. The lady in front is super nice. After sampling the meats I ordered the original and spicy beef. The pork was also good, but I love the beef flavor. The jerky has a little sweetness and when it's fresh the char on the edges is crisp and smoky. Sooo good. I'll definitely be back for more and this will now be our go-to place for gifts when visiting relatives. Price-wise it's more than most of the dried jerky you can get nearby. But for what you get (their time cooking it and since it's not completely dry, they probably can't store it without refrigeration), it's not that bad. When my friend mentioned she needed to get some beef jerky, I thought we were going to a supermarket or something. Little did I know, this little gem with homemade jerky existed. Just looking at their other yelp reviews and their website, they seem to be using a well-known Asian method of making the jerky. I'm no expert but after trying it, I approve. It's so good! Even though they're super nice about giving samples there, I still brought home a quarter pound of their bacon (classic pork, I think). Yeah and I finished it by myself in 3 days. I tried to make it last longer but it's that good. So much flavor and it's juicy and fatty. It's the best the day you purchase it because the instructions tell you to refrigerate after opening. So you're enjoying colder, denser meat afterwards. It's just not as tender but still delicious. They said you can reheat it but eh, too much work. The bacon is about $26 a pound but they sell it in quarter and half pound increments too. Most other jerkys like the original pork, tender pork and beef are a little less at $23/pound. Oh and it's cash only I think. A little pricey but worth it. While we were there, I also tried the tender pork and the spicy bacon. Everything was as good. My friend specifically came here to get packs of jerky for gifts. You can customize it any way you want but she got three different kinds, quarter pound of each kind, in one package. They weighed it, wrapped it in butcher paper and then sealed it in a clear plastic bag with a paper that had their logo, contact info, and instructions for enjoying and reheating. We just put in our order before eating lunch and after lunch it was ready to be picked up. They did suggest calling ahead of time if you have bigger orders. There were about 6 different kinds of jerky available when we went but not that much of each kind. I've missed this delicious sweet and spicy pork jerky that's freshly grilled from Hong Kong. My favorite is the nonspicy pork bacon. I would have been so happy to try this wonderful bakkwa that I've been hearing about (since they don't let us bring it from Singapore), if only this place would have been open. The storefront was pretty, and it looked clean inside (always a good sign!). Such a pity that it was closed at 6:20 p.m. I live in West LA, on the border of Santa Monica. So when I heard about this place, I knew it was going to be a trek. I excitedly jumped into my car and arrived more than an hour before their posted closing time. The hours posted on both Yelp and their website were until 7:30 p.m., so I figured I still had time to buy a couple pounds of bakkwa. Lo and behold, the door was closed and the store was dark. No sign, no explanation, just a closed storefront. Was I upset? Of course. After driving 45 minutes (thank goodness there wasn't traffic) to get here, my dreams were shattered. Will I be back? I don't really know. I'd love to give this place a try, but it's disheartening when you expect a business to be professional enough to abide by the hours they post on the door. For now, two stars. I'll revisit this review if I build up the gumption to take another risk at driving all the way out there again. overpriced and good as if I'm in Singapore meat so tasty-laaaah! For those of you that don't know about bakkwa (rou gan in Mandarin), it's a traditional snack found in the streets of Singapore. Imagine a thin slice of beef or pork that's been marinated in honey and (sometimes) spices, grilled up and placed in a baggie for you to snack on. Since it's not as dry as jerky, it's easy to chew, and great to snack on. Think of a product that's halfway between a beef sandwich slice and beef jerky, and you have bakkwa. Traditional bakkwa has a few preservatives and can last a few weeks without refrigeration. This spot refuses to use preservatives, so their bakkwa last a few days unrefrigerated, or maybe a week refrigerated. If you're undecided, the staff here is more than willing to explain anything to you and cut off tiny squares of bakkwa for you to try. Which is both a blessing and a curse. If you're in the front of the line it's great, since you never feel rushed and the staff is SUPER nice and helpful. But if you're waiting in line, it can be quite a pain unless you're willing to be pushy. Thankfully, this was my last stop of the day, so I wasn't in a rush. I was personally drawn towards the spicy bacon and pork, but the black pepper beef was pretty solid as well. They only grill up 1-2 pounds of bakkwa at a time to ensure it's fresh, and you can always ask them to grill you some fresh bakkwa if you're going to eat it right then and there. It always tastes better when it's piping hot than when it's merely warm. They made us some spicy pork bakkwa. It's a good thing that bakkwa is painfully expensive for what you get, since I could easily finish a half a pound in a single sitting, and maybe a full pound while watching Game of Thrones. It's SUPER addicting. Bakkwa runs you about $25 per pound, so prepare to pay for your craving. But since this is the ONLY place in So Cal to get fresh bakkwa (only place in the U.S. as far as I can tell), the price is well worth it if I don't want to fly to Singapore for my fix. Goodness, why is Asian style jerky so expensive? I bought a 1/2 lb of the spicy pork to give to family and it was almost $15? You could sample all the flavors before making a decision so don't worry about that. The lady behind the counter was super nice and patient. She also had great eyebrows, which I've concluded that everyone in CA has that. While she was taking our orders, I saw fresh jerky being made as well. We were there for 20 minutes and I saw 4 other ppl buying some. Apparently they have store online on amazon which is what my cousin's been doing since we live in TX.
