    Roasted pork belly
    Ashley Y.

AMAZINGGGGGG CHINESE BBQ!! This is definitely the best I've had in the SGV (and that's saying a lot given all the competition) NOTE-- CASH ONLY !!!! I got the bbq pork and roasted pork and both were phenomenal. The char siu is juicy, sweet, savory just the perfect balance of salty sweet. The roasted pork is SOOOO CRISPY on the outside like that CRUNCH on the skin is next level!! And the meat on the bottom is still nice and moist, not dry or chewy at all!! Do note that there's no sauce provided unlike some other places (just the condiment packets) but the flavor is so good you really don't need any! There is a parking lot but it does get kind of busy. But once again, CASH ONLY!!!! Bring cash!!!

Cash only $25/1 lb Wow. I had this bookmarked for a bit and I'm so glad I went. One of the best finds of 2025. Even though I'm trying to reduce my red meat consumption, this spot makes that immensely more difficult. The macau pork belly is everything. From the crispy skin, to the luscious fat, to the juicy meat, wow.. I have no words lol let's just say my tastebuds went on a rollercoaster called ayahuamacaully (terrible pun for ayahuasca + macau pork belly) with every chew. There was still two slabs left when I came into the shop at 1-2pm.

We got take out from Ruby BBQ Cantonese food. Solid food in large portions compared to others. Very good Wok hay flavor on the Fried Rice and Beef Chow Fun. A shared parking lot. Place is kind of small. Rating: 4 Stars

    Roasted duck (half) $17.99.

Free parking at the onsite parking lot. Parking never been a problem. Been coming here since they opened many years ago. The food was really good. We usually get the roasted pork but the waitress convinced us to get the duck. Half of the roasted duck was $17.99. It was really good. We also got the vegetables with dried fish. It was a big place of veggies for $13.99. The fried mien with beef was $13.99 and also a big portion. The food came with soup and rice. The wait staff could be more courteous. Most customers order the food to go. Come for the food, not for the service.

DISGUSTING!! I went here after a long day of work and craved authentic noodles and string beans. I got my order and went home to eat with my family AND THEN I PULLED A PIECE OF CURLED HAIR OUT OF MY FOOD! I'm Please check your food before you eat it! I'm so disappointed

    Mapo tofu, crispy pork belly

Rating overall is 4.5/5. Found this place through one of my friends mentioning how it was pretty popular! Note that it's a bit more expensive and cash only! Roast duck (4.5/5): the duck was very flavorful and juicy and exactly what I was looking for in a roast duck. Crispy pork belly (4.5/5): I've had this plenty of times before at many places but I was pretty shocked at how crispy the skin actually was at rubys. Would definitely get again. Mapo tofu (3.5/5): their mapo tofu portion was pretty large and it was on the simpler side which made it very easy to eat. I rated it a bit lower because my personal taste for mapo tofu is for it to be a bit spicier and less starchy in consistency.

They are nice. Good small place. Food is good, fresh & tasty. Service is friendly, despite being very busy. Order ahead for pick up, especially during lunch time!

So so disappointed for the bbq duck they gave me on 12/19. While I was paying for my food He sneaked 1 of the dry looking 1 day old duck And started cutting it he didn't give me a chance to choose the one I wanted. my 93 yrs old mom she was saying why the meat so dry and tasteless. Sorry never again will get bbq ducks from them.

I am so glad to have found this gem via Yelp! It's a no frills spot in a shopping center that I've passed by so many times without knowing it was there. I saw the lunch plate photos on Yelp of the duck and roast pork combo and knew I had to try it. It was empty when we arrived which confused me since the reviews say they are really busy and sell out fast, but nonetheless I showed the lady the photo of the combo I wanted and the guy quickly chopped up the order. The plate was hefty and the amount of food they give you is shareable. The pork was so delicious and so crispy! The skin was perfect! The duck was ok, I wouldn't order that again. The sauce was very good and soaked into the rice perfectly. The pork was so good that we came back later in the day to just order more a la cart to take home. Service was friendly and quick. Easy parking in a private lot.

This is a hidden gem! Family Style! It's a small little family owned restaurant in a plaza. All the dishes are delicious and made fresh! It's always best to eat there to enjoy the de-fry crispiness! My fav is #57. Everything is flavored. However, the de-fry seems to be the same flavor just either pork or chicken. Either way, we enjoyed it all. Checkout the prices on the menu! Everything on the menu is between $12.99-$16.99 except for two items at $17.99. Or unless you buy the roasted pig. Look at the amount they give for the price! Not bad IMO! The mom and son are always nice! We will always come back here.

Roasted pork is now $21.99/lb and the duck is $31.99/lb Will update when I get home and try the food.

Do they cook with MSG? I'm allergic?

There's MSG in virtually every food item not just Asian food. MSG is also in majority of American food and snacks too. What are your allergy symptoms? This question should be asked directly to the restaurant by calling them.

Do they do whole roasted pig? And price range?

Not sure about the price. They did say 3 days in advance notice on their wall.

    Can you pre-order?

    Yes.

They have a lot of tables inside so it is great for small and large groups. The waiters were also fast even though they were busy. We ordered their Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Tofu, Beef Noodle, Shrimp w Walnut, and Vegetable w Garlic. We decided not to get lobster since it was pricey. They took our order pretty fast and gave tea to drink. The pot of white rice is extra $1 if you order though. And their menu book doesn't have prices for some reason. Only the to-go menu has prices. Food was served in a decent amount of time, around 15 minutes. And all dishes arrived close together so we didn't have to wait long. The kung pao chicken is so good! Not spicy at all and very nice and crispy with good seasoning. It tasted delicious with some rice. The beef noodles were also delicious! It had good wok taste and was very flavorful. The tofu and shrimp were also good. None of the dishes were too salty and all were seasoned well and in pretty big portions, though I don't remember the exact price since they took the receipt away when we paid. But the meal was very worth and we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Such a yummy meal! I really enjoyed it! I am definitely coming back again!

My family and I used to religiously eat lobster noodles whenever we made a trip down to SoCal. The pick of the bunch was 100% Newport Seafood- no negotiations, no contemplations. Unfortunately, the last handful of times have left me extremely disappointed and heavily annoyed. The cost and wait times do not reflect what is actually being provided and most of our food ends up being left behind because it simply isn't worth the calories. In all honestly, I've grown a phobia w/ that specific restaurant at this point because of the countless letdowns. My initial taste of Boston Lobster was about 3 years ago and I had the most enjoyable meal. Due to our LA trip coming to an end, my BD thought we should do it big with some lobster noodles- for good old time's sake. I absolutely refused to go anywhere unless we would be giving Boston Lobster a visit! Sure enough, they did not disappoint! Dinner for 3 adults and 1 toddler consisted of: *Boston House Special Lobster [no spice] + Garlic Noodles for an additional fee. Medium Size 5-6lbs minimally. *French Style Beef Cube *Sauteed Snow Pea Leaves We ate like mf'n KINGS!! Each and every dish was spectacular- even the greens! While we should have gone with the small sized lobster, I'm proud to say we went down with an honorable fight. Lmao!! The lobster was cooked to perfection- meat was sweet, succulent, and so darn tender. The garlic noodles soaked up all of the delicious lobster flavors and were not overcooked and mush. The bo luc lac was flavorful, juicy, and complimented the bed of lettuce, onions, & tomatoes so well. The snow pea leaves weren't tough and old- this truly was a simply yet magical dish. Service was on point and the staff continually came by to swap out our plates full of lobster shells. Above all, there was no wait with our initial arrival. Parking is easy given the fact that BL has a pretty big parking lot specifically for them. 5/5 stars!! We dropped over 3 bills here and it didn't even hurt. Lmao- this place is that damn good! Don't sleep on this joint, y'all. Boston Lobster is the real deal when it comes to authentic Chinese/Vietnamese cuisine. This spot should be so much more hyped than it actually is!

This is what I thought about the food we got. House Seafood Soup - Simple and clean soup. Good portion, and it was soothing to eat. Lots of squid. (4/5) Clams with Spicy Sauce - Large clams with tons of meat, and the sauce was fire. Always a good choice. (5/5) Crab with Salt & Pepper - Loved the seasoning, and the flavors were solid. (4.5/5) Thai Style Beef Stew - First time trying this, and it was good. A bit different, but the meat chunks were tasty and the overall flavors were good. (4/5) Sautéed Pea Sprouts - Nicely done vegetable dish. It's simple but refreshing with good flavors. (4/5) Fried Whole Fish - This dish was gone so fast because it was delicious. Nicely fried and not overly seasoned. (5/5) Signature Lobster - I feel like you have to get this here since it's their specialty. It's pricey, but in my opinion, it's the best and freshest lobster in town. Tons of green onions, seasoned well, fresh meat, and lots of lobster roe. (5/5) Service was good, and they didn't automatically add a mandatory tip for a large party. The total came out to around $364, which is pricey, but the food was phenomenal. However, if you want to try something a little different, there are some "traditional" Kaiping specialties that I haven't seen on menus anywhere else. I've always come with my family and have received great service because my dad knows the staff. They speak my home dialect so I'm sure there's some bias there. Foodwise, I've tried quite a bit and haven't had any dishes that didn't hit the mark for me. Standouts for me are the big claypot yellow eel rice, their specialty roast goose (the 2 dishes just listed may require a preorder but again, my dad usually handles all the ordering), their beansprout with pig intestine, and their egg plant with salted fish. The claypot rice is ordered by the kilo so really is a big party dish but has nice succulent pieces of eel, really well cooked rice, and then of course the crispy rice at the bottom. The goose is very flavorful and not super gamey, it has more of a meaty texture and bite than the younger poultry an American pallette may be used to so word of warning. I really like the beansprout with pig intestine, again not really gamey but very savory with very tender, fatty pieces of intestine (highly recommend even if you're hesitant with intestine). The eggplant with salted fish is also intensely savory with a pungency from the salted fish that may seem like a lot but melds really well with the sauce and overall flavor of the dish. Though I haven't tried every dish on their menu, I've tried quite a bit and can confidently say they'll bring out some tasty Chinese dishes.

My parents have been talking about how good this place is and usually I'm skeptical about their tastes, but they were right for once. We ordered a lot, but here's what I ate since I didn't eat everything at the table. Westlake beef soup: One of my favorite soups. Really good! Clean tasting (as in no funky meaty gamey flavors). Perfect consistency. Beef chow fun (with gravy): Normally I like the dry version only, but my brother wanted the gravy version and honestly it was really tasty. The beef was velveted perfectly, the gravy/sauce was silky, and the distinct taste of wok hei shined through. Might consider doing the gravy version more often now. French style beef: Wow, this was SO good. They stir in thai basil with it so it's extra aromatic. Again, perfectly seasoned and cooked cuts of beef. This is definitely a must order. Salt and pepper squid: One of my must-haves at any Cantonese spot. It was really good, but me being nitpicky, I've had better elsewhere. With that being said, I would still order this here for sure. Seafood chow mein: Not a fan of chow mein, but it was honestly pretty good. If you're like chow mein, I would definitely recommend this even as someone who doesn't care for it. The flavor is all there, the chow mein was crunchy, the gravy was nice. No complaints, tbh. Sweet deep fried pork chops: Not really sure what to call this, but I did not like this at all. I don't care for sweet and sour pork chops and this is pretty similar to that minus the Red 40. Minor complaints: The dinnerware was a little greasy which was kinda gross. I saw a thin film of oil in my tea cup, so I grabbed a new one. Service was slow, but friendly. I guess they didn't anticipate getting that busy in the middle of the week. Overall it was a very satisfying and delicious meal. As everyone has already stated, the portions here are big and the prices are reasonable. Would I come back? It's a bit far, so I don't think I would on my own. However, if my family wanted to dine here, I personally wouldn't have any apprehensions about coming back.

Ocean Bo is a staple in El Monte and has been around for many years. It's one of those places that…read morealways seems to have a loyal local following. During the day they serve dim sum, and at night they switch over to Cantonese seafood dishes. I've eaten here many times for dim sum. They offer both traditional sit down service and a takeout counter in the front if you're in a hurry. The dim sum is solid and definitely hits the spot. Since I live nearby, it's one of those convenient spots I find myself coming back to. This visit was for dinner. We ordered a fish dish that was pretty interesting (honestly not sure what the exact name was), an oyster omelet, and clams with basil. Everything was tasty and definitely made me go through a couple bowls of rice. One thing I always appreciate is that they still give complimentary dessert at the end of the meal. We got green bean soup and some ma lai gao, which was a nice way to finish dinner. Overall, Ocean Bo is one of those neighborhood gems that has stood the test of time. It may not be the trendiest restaurant around, but it's reliable, serves good Cantonese food, and keeps the locals coming back.

We arrive around 2pm and there was no wait. You order off a form and the food arrives quickly because they have most of it pre-made and ready for take out in the back. Here are my thoughts on the following: - har gow: decent and STUFFED with shrimp - siu mai: super juicy and probably the best siu mai I've ever had - shrimp rice roll: decent, nothing to write home about - ham sui gok (deep fried meat dumpling): good, but not as airy as I like them, but still good - soy sauce chow mein: super bland - egg tarts: one of them was perfect, the other two were too runny like they hadn't been set properly, but the custard was sweet and balanced perfectly with the flaky crust - egg yolk bun: my bf really liked these, but I thought the filling was a tad too grainy for my liking All in all, I was pretty impressed with Ocean Bo and would recommend.
