Sweet pastries

Dim sum place for togo and dine in. You can see the togo section walking in the spacious restaurant. Unfortunately, when you order they take the food from the to go section and bring it to the table. Leading to not the freshest dim sum. Came in the afternoon and some of the dishes have been sitting too long. The rice roll we got was doughy and soggy. The pieces had merged together for sitting so long. Shu mai and har gow was ok. The fried foods were decent. The sweet pastries were solid. The turnip cake was mushy and didn't have crisp. Everything was standard or below average from sitting too long. Service was ok. Parking available in this plaza. Not push cart dimsum. Marked items on menu and all the food picked from to go side.

Ocean Bo had a line out the door, making us think they would be good. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast and I ran out to put our name down while we went to park the car. The parking spaces are tight in this plaza. The restaurant was packed. We ended up being seated at the door and it was an appetizer killer with smokers spitting and smoking right at the entrance. This dim sum restaurant doesn't have the carts. You mark your order on the sheet and they bring it out. On one side of the restaurant, it was dedicated to all the togo orders so they mass produce lot of dim sum for take out and sit down. We ordered the Har Gow ($5.05), Shu Mai ($5.05), Turnip Cake ($5.05), Shrimp Rice Roll ($6.25), Preserved Egg & Salted Pork Congee ($6.25), Soy Sauce Chow Mein ($6.25), BBQ Pork Puff ($7.95) and Egg Tart ($5.05). I feel like we ordered a lot of items to try and there wasn't an item I liked. There was a dryness with all of them. The shu mai and bbq pork puff had poor quality filling. The shrimp rice roll had a thick tough exterior, not soft and tasty at all. It was such an awful meal. The best thing here was the yellow mustard I asked for the drench the food to take away the stale taste in my mouth. Not recommended. They're probably busy because of the lacking competition on this side of SGV. I rather trek a bit farther for better dim sum.

Note to self: get here before 4:00 PM if you want the shu mai! Even though they sold out right when it was my turn, the 'after 4' discount is no joke. It's cash only and they don't give receipts, but the amount of food I got for tomorrow's breakfast was such a win. I'll add the food review tomorrow

Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is located at Victoria Center, El Monte. They moved to a larger location in the same plaza. The new restaurant has a nice decor, and numerous indoor seating.I liked the fish tank at the entrance of the restaurant. It gives calming vibes. I went specifically for their shumai, but I ended up ordering Har gow, pork bun, and pineapple buns. Their shumai was very fresh, juicy, flavorful and had perfect chewiness. It's a must try! Har gow was juicy, delicate and had generous shrimp filling. Barbecue Pork bun was savory and the baked bun had sweet and glazed crust. Pineapple buns were freshly baked, golden crust from outside and creamy rich filling inside. Everything I ordered was delicious and flavorful. The service was very fast. Definitely, I will be back soon to try more dishes from their menu.

We went here following a recommendation by Peter and Lisa Kim from YouTube. Negatives: -decent dim sum Positives: -price, the value of food for the price you pay is great. California prices and food still going up thanks to Newscum. Sales tax in LA skyrocketed over 10% and up to 11.5% in some cities, it's insane. The great prices honestly elevated the dim sum from decent to amazing. We also got their chicken and salted fish fried rice. It was good too, and I know my fried rice since I make a mean fried rice dish myself. -service, very quick and I appreciate the staff letting me know lunch was served at 11 but still making our fried rice early for us. -ambiance, your typical authentic Chinese experience. There were no dim sum carts, but the dim sum was made to order so they came out fresh and piping hot. Overall 5/5 The dim sum was decent, but the price made them great. Definitely worth a try and we will be coming back again when we're craving good dim sum that won't break the wallet.

y'all found me at a very Chinese time in my life. I really enjoyed this spot, good prices, decent dim sum and efficient service! I would go again and just get har gow.

Delicious and authentic dim sum at reasonable, affordable prices! The staff were welcoming and attentive. You pick from the list of menu items, then the food is brought to the table. Hot tea is $0.99/person. The ambiance is clean, bright and loud as one would expect for a dim sum restaurant. Plenty of parking spots but come early to avoid long line. They also have a to-go section if you want to grab and go. Highly recommended!

This time around I came here for a family style dinner rather then their morning dim sum. The food is pretty decent with some really good dishes and some dishes that I felt were definitely just okay. Big win because they do give complimentary dessert which was pretty plentiful. For dinner I had these. Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup - Started off with this and it was good. Really enjoyed it, good flavors and went well with the red vinegar they gave us. (4.5/5) Honey Creamy Walnut Shrimp - Your typical walnut shrimp. It was good, no complaints. (4/5) Braised Tofu with Dried Scallop in Brown Sauce - Definitely my favorite, a bit saucy but the tofu was very tasty. Its drenched in sauce. (5/5) Chiu Chow Style Clam With Vermicelli - This was decent. The clams ranged from fresh to some not fresh ones. It was an alright dish, still enjoyed it. (3.5/5) Preserved Eggplant with Preserved Vegetable - Personally I would not get this again. It wasn't very good, lacked flavor and the eggplants had this gooey like texture. It was alright but not something I would recommend. (2/5) Dessert - They gave like a mung bean type che and a tgg tart like cake. Really enjoyed it and since it was free easy (5/5). Overall, Ocean Bo is always pretty good. It's my local Chinese Restaurant near home so we enjoy coming here when the family is looking for Chinese food. Not the best not the worst, right in the middle!

The food was average to me. It tasted alright for the most part. My favorite was the radish cake. Everything else had a taste that wasn't bad nor good and the dessert didn't impress me. Unique if you're new to dim sum though.

Was browsing Yelp and this place popped out, decided to give it a try. Overall this is a pretty good experience. Maybe what helps is that we went in right before noon time, once we got seated the place was packed! I would think that if you have to wait in line for a while then, the experience would be slightly less than stellar. The place is clean, simple, it's not too large but its also not cramped. I really like how they separate the to go orders and the regular dine in, this makes the ordering process efficient. I'm not Uber knowledgeable about dim sum places in El Monte area, but this was wayyy better than the Golden Dragon in Chinatown, when I saw some reviews rating this place 3.5 for food, I kind of wondered what kind of food deserve 5/5, would definitely try that as well! From my experience, the food is really good. Shumai was very flavorful and meaty, the beef tripe is not smelly at all, and it is seasoned perfectly. They have chicken eggroll! It's awesome, many dimsum places does not have chicken eggroll! The pork ribs are juicy and the meat is very tender! I would think that this place is a really nice place. 10/10 would recommend and would come back again.

Ocean Bo is subtle dim sum location in the SGV. Not the best dim sum but definitely hit the spot if you're looking for consistency and authenticity. My family and I have been here for years and my colleague and I come here when we want dim sum because they live in the area. Prices are fair and cheaper than the Dim Sum restaurants in SGV. They also have a takeout booth where they showcase the dim sums and if you come after 4pm to about 4:30pm, it's discounted price. They used to be able to take credit cards but recently started, CASH ONLY after 4PM! What I like are their shuimai, chicken feet, egg tarts, seaweed rolls, chives dumplings and their salted egg yolk buns. They serve hot tea or Lemon Ice tea. They are located in a shopping center and easy to get to with a parking lot but it gets filled on weekends.

Stephanie C.

One of the cheaper places for dim sum, not by much, but if you're craving dim sum it is a satisfying place. We got chicken feet, spare ribs, shui mai and honeycomb tripe. Big portions. Tripe is my go to staple! Servers are your typical disgruntled people. Barely talk to you. They prefer to speak Cantonese.

Good job, nice . $9 raw meat

We were…read moreable to call ahead earlier in the morning and ask if we could be on the wait list or reserve a table. They told us they could reserve a table for us at 6pm. We originally were hoping for 7 or 7:30, but based on how busy and popular this place is I can see why they said no. Come early and get seated right away and there's still ample parking in their parking lot. By the time we left at 7:30p, the lot was packed and people circling around hoping to snag a spot from folks leaving. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Great restaurant in the SGV. This location is much bigger than their Rowland Heights restaurant, but the food is exactly the same. This is a great alternative to the popular Newport Seafood, so don't sleep on this place!

The Restaurant has plenty of space, but I chose to be seated near the entrance, since that's where I saw most of the staff standing, that way when I need something it's easy to reach out for them. The Menu was handed to us and I saw a lot of things on their Menu in a package deal, like a family style order. I didn't order that 'coz I am not familiar with some of the things on the menu so we just chose ala cart. I ordered a few things that I knew my Husband and Son would enjoy. * 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with GARLIC PASTA. *CRAB with TAMARIND SAUCE *PORK CHOP SALT & PEPPER * YANG CHOW FRIED RICE I wanted to order more, but I was impressed with how HONEST our server was, he said "I think you should see first when the food comes out 'coz your Lobster alone is already big. I'm glad I listened to his advice 'coz at the end of our dinner we still had plenty left 'coz the servings were big, especially the Lobster with Garlic noodles. The 5.75 pounds of LOBSTER with Garlic Pasta was Huge when they delivered it to our table, the shells were already pre cracked, so it was easy to get the Lobster Meats. Omg! having the Garlic noodles with this dish is delicious! But surprisingly this time , I loved the CRAB more than the Lobster , but both were really really good, but the reason that I liked the Crab more is because the seasoning or Flavor of the sauce that I chose for our crab is so delicious!!!! The Crab was meaty and it has a good Tanginess with a light sweetness and a light spiciness to it. While my Husband and Son were enjoying the Lobster, I was devouring the Crab ;) The Fried rice and Pork was good too, but it's just the same taste as we always get on the other restaurants. The food here were delicious, the crab was totaly devoured by me and there was plenty of the Lobster left. It was DELICIOUS, but it was a Big Portion with all that Chunky Lobster Meats and Garlic noodles, my husband and son said that it was a heavy meal and made them so full :) The Foods were delicious, the portions were big, there were Plenty of Parking around, and the Service was Excellent. If ever we are in the area again, I will definitely make a stop here.

Won't allow to change some food on banquet menu, just had to add another dish. Food came out fast & with big plates, hardly any space on table, waiter just left it on top of 2 serving trays. They didn't care that serving plates were still full. The beef loc lac was tough, deep fried fish sauce tasted weird with their sweet sour sauce, pea sprouts which I was trying to change to another dish but couldn't, sure enough was so fibrous & chewy. The special fried rice was so full of all different kinds of meat that it was like a meal in itself. With 10 different dishes it would have been better to serve plain white rice. Felt service could been better for 18% service already added on bill. Tea was even charged. Had to ask for menu at cashier & was told already at table, asked for waiter so we can order, had to ask for water, spoons & forks or to have some serving plates taken away to have more space at table. There were few waiters & feel that they were not attentive and restaurant was not even busy. Even parking lot was not full but there was courtesy valet parking & girl was insisting on parking the cars even though several cars was starting to line up. However, if you want to try something a little different, there are some "traditional" Kaiping specialties that I haven't seen on menus anywhere else. I've always come with my family and have received great service because my dad knows the staff. They speak my home dialect so I'm sure there's some bias there. Foodwise, I've tried quite a bit and haven't had any dishes that didn't hit the mark for me. Standouts for me are the big claypot yellow eel rice, their specialty roast goose (the 2 dishes just listed may require a preorder but again, my dad usually handles all the ordering), their beansprout with pig intestine, and their egg plant with salted fish. The claypot rice is ordered by the kilo so really is a big party dish but has nice succulent pieces of eel, really well cooked rice, and then of course the crispy rice at the bottom. The goose is very flavorful and not super gamey, it has more of a meaty texture and bite than the younger poultry an American pallette may be used to so word of warning. I really like the beansprout with pig intestine, again not really gamey but very savory with very tender, fatty pieces of intestine (highly recommend even if you're hesitant with intestine). The eggplant with salted fish is also intensely savory with a pungency from the salted fish that may seem like a lot but melds really well with the sauce and overall flavor of the dish. Though I haven't tried every dish on their menu, I've tried quite a bit and can confidently say they'll bring out some tasty Chinese dishes.
