We arrive around 2pm and there was no wait. You order off a form and the food arrives quickly because they have most of it pre-made and ready for take out in the back. Here are my thoughts on the following: - har gow: decent and STUFFED with shrimp - siu mai: super juicy and probably the best siu mai I've ever had - shrimp rice roll: decent, nothing to write home about - ham sui gok (deep fried meat dumpling): good, but not as airy as I like them, but still good - soy sauce chow mein: super bland - egg tarts: one of them was perfect, the other two were too runny like they hadn't been set properly, but the custard was sweet and balanced perfectly with the flaky crust - egg yolk bun: my bf really liked these, but I thought the filling was a tad too grainy for my liking All in all, I was pretty impressed with Ocean Bo and would recommend. read more

Ocean Bo had a line out the door, making us think they would be good. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast and I ran out to put our name down while we went to park the car. The parking spaces are tight in this plaza. The restaurant was packed. We ended up being seated at the door and it was an appetizer killer with smokers spitting and smoking right at the entrance. This dim sum restaurant doesn't have the carts. You mark your order on the sheet and they bring it out. On one side of the restaurant, it was dedicated to all the togo orders so they mass produce lot of dim sum for take out and sit down. We ordered the Har Gow ($5.05), Shu Mai ($5.05), Turnip Cake ($5.05), Shrimp Rice Roll ($6.25), Preserved Egg & Salted Pork Congee ($6.25), Soy Sauce Chow Mein ($6.25), BBQ Pork Puff ($7.95) and Egg Tart ($5.05). I feel like we ordered a lot of items to try and there wasn't an item I liked. There was a dryness with all of them. The shu mai and bbq pork puff had poor quality filling. The shrimp rice roll had a thick tough exterior, not soft and tasty at all. It was such an awful meal. The best thing here was the yellow mustard I asked for the drench the food to take away the stale taste in my mouth. Not recommended. Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is located at Victoria Center, El Monte. They moved to a larger location in the same plaza. The new restaurant has a nice decor, and numerous indoor seating.I liked the fish tank at the entrance of the restaurant. It gives calming vibes. I went specifically for their shumai, but I ended up ordering Har gow, pork bun, and pineapple buns. Their shumai was very fresh, juicy, flavorful and had perfect chewiness. It's a must try! Har gow was juicy, delicate and had generous shrimp filling. Barbecue Pork bun was savory and the baked bun had sweet and glazed crust. Pineapple buns were freshly baked, golden crust from outside and creamy rich filling inside. Everything I ordered was delicious and flavorful. The service was very fast. California prices and food still going up thanks to Newscum. Sales tax in LA skyrocketed over 10% and up to 11.5% in some cities, it's insane. The great prices honestly elevated the dim sum from decent to amazing. We also got their chicken and salted fish fried rice. It was good too, and I know my fried rice since I make a mean fried rice dish myself. -service, very quick and I appreciate the staff letting me know lunch was served at 11 but still making our fried rice early for us. -ambiance, your typical authentic Chinese experience. There were no dim sum carts, but the dim sum was made to order so they came out fresh and piping hot. Overall 5/5 The dim sum was decent, but the price made them great. Big win because they do give complimentary dessert which was pretty plentiful. For dinner I had these. Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup - Started off with this and it was good. Really enjoyed it, good flavors and went well with the red vinegar they gave us. (4.5/5) Honey Creamy Walnut Shrimp - Your typical walnut shrimp. It was good, no complaints. (4/5) Braised Tofu with Dried Scallop in Brown Sauce - Definitely my favorite, a bit saucy but the tofu was very tasty. Its drenched in sauce. (5/5) Chiu Chow Style Clam With Vermicelli - This was decent. The clams ranged from fresh to some not fresh ones. It was an alright dish, still enjoyed it. Ocean Bo is a local dim sum Chinese restaurant. Their take out seems to be very popular for people that just want to grab and go. For me, I liked that it was easy to walk in and get seated immediately on Sunday 11am. But the dim sum is average at best. Their Cheung fun skin is way too thick. And everything taste like frozen dim sum that was steamed a few hours prior. The part that really disgust me was that on our way out, we saw their staff prepping their dim sum on a kart right in front of the bathroom. Tried Ocean Bo for the first time this morning with a party of 4. We came into the restaurant around 10:30AM on a Saturday and were immediately seated. Atmosphere was bustling and you can expect it to be a little noisy during the meal. This establishment does not have the traditional dimsum carts. They have a checklist menu where you indicate what you want. My group went a little ham and order 14 items as well as tea. This was more than enough for four people and had about 3 dishes leftover. I would recommend 9-12 dimsum items for a party of 4. Favorites were the fried taro gok, bean curd wrapped meat and banana red been puff. The staples (shumai, har gow, etc.) were okay. Nothing was awful, but I did feel like they were skimming on fillings for some dishes. Things are coming out fresh as you can see the food being prepared. Customer service was good. Although we needed to call someone to cut some of our dishes and for sauces, they were very attentive with clearing our table from the completed dishes and refilling our teapot. The bill came out to be $90 before tip which is not bad at all. I would be down for dimsum again at Ocean Bo. Hold off using their restroom though. read more

Was browsing Yelp and this place popped out, decided to give it a try. Overall this is a pretty good experience. Maybe what helps is that we went in right before noon time, once we got seated the place was packed! I would think that if you have to wait in line for a while then, the experience would be slightly less than stellar. The place is clean, simple, it's not too large but its also not cramped. I really like how they separate the to go orders and the regular dine in, this makes the ordering process efficient. I'm not Uber knowledgeable about dim sum places in El Monte area, but this was wayyy better than the Golden Dragon in Chinatown, when I saw some reviews rating this place 3.5 for food, I kind of wondered what kind of food deserve 5/5, would definitely try that as well! From my experience, the food is really good. Shumai was very flavorful and meaty, the beef tripe is not smelly at all, and it is seasoned perfectly. They have chicken eggroll! It's awesome, many dimsum places does not have chicken eggroll! The pork ribs are juicy and the meat is very tender! My family and I have been here for years and my colleague and I come here when we want dim sum because they live in the area. Prices are fair and cheaper than the Dim Sum restaurants in SGV. They also have a takeout booth where they showcase the dim sums and if you come after 4pm to about 4:30pm, it's discounted price. They used to be able to take credit cards but recently started, CASH ONLY after 4PM! What I like are their shuimai, chicken feet, egg tarts, seaweed rolls, chives dumplings and their salted egg yolk buns. They serve hot tea or Lemon Ice tea. I stopped by Ocean Bo because I was in the neighborhood and wanted a lil dim sum snack. The restaurant has both a take out counter as well as a dining space. Ordering is super easy. Each table comes equipped with paper menus with high quality colored pictures. You simply mark the items you want and flag down a waiter. My sister and I ordered a medley of our favorites: -shrimp har gow -pork shiu mai (5pcs) -garlic spare ribs -bean curd wrap -haim sul gok -seaweed roll Most things we ordered were priced at $4.89 with the exception of the seaweed roll ($6.15). The food comes out quick - they source it from the to-go section. It's easy in and out. You can also order from their non-dim-sum menu which includes a lot of Cantonese favorites. The dim sum was very mid. The best tasting thing we ate was the haim sul guk and even that was very meh. The filing could have stood for more flavor. The bean curd wrap had good flavor however the amount of wood ear mushroom used was super disturbing. Too many pieces and too chewy. Honestly, the true testament to any dim sum establishment is the shiu mai and the version here was oh so meh. It was so soft, mushy, and lacked any flavor. It wasn't very good. From where my table was, I could see them filling the egg tarts, I was excited to have them because I knew it would be fresh! We were seated quickly and the waiters brought out tea and menu. The paper menu came with pictures, this is helpful because I like to visually see what I'm ordering. They have the traditional har gow, sui mai, chicken feet, bbq pork buns, pineapple buns, and egg tarts. After filling out the menu, the food was brought out in less then 10 minutes! They stacked the multiples we ordered which was helpful in making table space. Everything on the menu tasted great, as you can see from the picture, we ordered multiple of one dish because of how good it is here. The food was hot, juicy, fresh, and delicious without tasting overly salty. I would highly recommend this place for high tea. There are so many pastry/bread options that pair well with tea. We ordered 9 total, my parents also said that the food will come from the take out station which makes sense but also means the dishes have been sitting there for a bit. The only bad ones were the haim sui gok, shrimp har how, pork shiu mai, and sesame balls. They were cold and not as fresh...minus a star I still enjoyed the pork spare ribs, chicken feet in black bean sauce, Tea is 1.25$ a person. We spent roughly 60$ plus tip 70$. Overall it was pretty good, next time it might be better if we get there early. Came here for dim sum then mother's day dinner. We were lucky to get a last minute dinner reservation from this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. My family was very impressed with their food. Look, this place is fire. If you're looking for a dim sum experience that does their cooking in-house still, then you're gonna want to come to Ocean Bo. The food speaks for itself, try anything, I know you're gonna like it. The harshest food critics around, my kids, even enjoy it. I really enjoyed their shumai, I don't know why, but their Chinese broccoli is on point, and the sticky rice is by far the best I've had. The service for a non-Chinese speaker is not as intimidating as other dim sum restaurants as well. The staff is prompt and professional.
