The to go section for dim sum
    Stephanie N.

They have a to go section inside the restaurant. I loved this so much. There's no wait to get your dim sum. You just get in and get out. I was helped right away and very efficiently. They do take cards and tap. Most importantly, the dim sum was delicious! Their egg tarts are one of the best I've had. I am definitely coming back.

Dined in for lunch on 4/26 with a group of 5 people around 1:00 pm. It was busy and we had to wait 20 minutes before being seated. Parking: plenty of spots in the lot even if the restaurants are full Food: We ordered a lot of food and it was delicious. Some items that stood out were the red chicken feet, siu mai, and har gow. The food tasted fresh and it is probably one of the best in El Monte.

Still throughout the years... Ocean Bo has solid Dim Sum. I haven't picked up some dim sum in awhile, but you are greeted almost immediately if you want to pick up to go or dine. It's packed on a Saturday around 1pm. I went to the side and ordered and asked for a menu and the lady serving me just pointed to the menu taped up. Good enough I guess lol. She was attentive to what I wanted to order, but I do wish I was able to see a full menu because what if I wanted shrimp noodles? or if they offer juicy soup dumplings?! or bokchoy with garlic? I'm just craving all types of food now. I don't even know because I just pointed at what they had available. Most of the food available may have been sitting there because they didn't taste the freshest, but if you want tasty dim sum for a decent price in the area then this place hits. I ordered sticky rice, egg tarts, ham sui gok - I say football dumplings because I don't want to misprounce it but it's so yummy n chewy lol, and har gow, yum! So yes, come here for dim sum if you are craving it. (:

Dim sum place for togo and dine in. You can see the togo section walking in the spacious restaurant. Unfortunately, when you order they take the food from the to go section and bring it to the table. Leading to not the freshest dim sum. Came in the afternoon and some of the dishes have been sitting too long. The rice roll we got was doughy and soggy. The pieces had merged together for sitting so long. Shu mai and har gow was ok. The fried foods were decent. The sweet pastries were solid. The turnip cake was mushy and didn't have crisp. Everything was standard or below average from sitting too long. Service was ok. Parking available in this plaza. Not push cart dimsum. Marked items on menu and all the food picked from to go side.

Ocean Bo had a line out the door, making us think they would be good. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast and I ran out to put our name down while we went to park the car. The parking spaces are tight in this plaza. The restaurant was packed. We ended up being seated at the door and it was an appetizer killer with smokers spitting and smoking right at the entrance. This dim sum restaurant doesn't have the carts. You mark your order on the sheet and they bring it out. On one side of the restaurant, it was dedicated to all the togo orders so they mass produce lot of dim sum for take out and sit down. We ordered the Har Gow ($5.05), Shu Mai ($5.05), Turnip Cake ($5.05), Shrimp Rice Roll ($6.25), Preserved Egg & Salted Pork Congee ($6.25), Soy Sauce Chow Mein ($6.25), BBQ Pork Puff ($7.95) and Egg Tart ($5.05). I feel like we ordered a lot of items to try and there wasn't an item I liked. There was a dryness with all of them. The shu mai and bbq pork puff had poor quality filling. The shrimp rice roll had a thick tough exterior, not soft and tasty at all. It was such an awful meal. The best thing here was the yellow mustard I asked for the drench the food to take away the stale taste in my mouth. Not recommended. They're probably busy because of the lacking competition on this side of SGV. I rather trek a bit farther for better dim sum.

Ocean Bo Dim Sum Cafe is located at Victoria Center, El Monte. They moved to a larger location in the same plaza. The new restaurant has a nice decor, and numerous indoor seating.I liked the fish tank at the entrance of the restaurant. It gives calming vibes. I went specifically for their shumai, but I ended up ordering Har gow, pork bun, and pineapple buns. Their shumai was very fresh, juicy, flavorful and had perfect chewiness. It's a must try! Har gow was juicy, delicate and had generous shrimp filling. Barbecue Pork bun was savory and the baked bun had sweet and glazed crust. Pineapple buns were freshly baked, golden crust from outside and creamy rich filling inside. Everything I ordered was delicious and flavorful. The service was very fast. Definitely, I will be back soon to try more dishes from their menu.

Note to self: get here before 4:00 PM if you want the shu mai! Even though they sold out right when it was my turn, the 'after 4' discount is no joke. It's cash only and they don't give receipts, but the amount of food I got for tomorrow's breakfast was such a win. I'll add the food review tomorrow

We went here following a recommendation by Peter and Lisa Kim from YouTube. Negatives: -decent dim sum Positives: -price, the value of food for the price you pay is great. California prices and food still going up thanks to Newscum. Sales tax in LA skyrocketed over 10% and up to 11.5% in some cities, it's insane. The great prices honestly elevated the dim sum from decent to amazing. We also got their chicken and salted fish fried rice. It was good too, and I know my fried rice since I make a mean fried rice dish myself. -service, very quick and I appreciate the staff letting me know lunch was served at 11 but still making our fried rice early for us. -ambiance, your typical authentic Chinese experience. There were no dim sum carts, but the dim sum was made to order so they came out fresh and piping hot. Overall 5/5 The dim sum was decent, but the price made them great. Definitely worth a try and we will be coming back again when we're craving good dim sum that won't break the wallet.

This time around I came here for a family style dinner rather then their morning dim sum. The food is pretty decent with some really good dishes and some dishes that I felt were definitely just okay. Big win because they do give complimentary dessert which was pretty plentiful. For dinner I had these. Crab Meat and Fish Maw Soup - Started off with this and it was good. Really enjoyed it, good flavors and went well with the red vinegar they gave us. (4.5/5) Honey Creamy Walnut Shrimp - Your typical walnut shrimp. It was good, no complaints. (4/5) Braised Tofu with Dried Scallop in Brown Sauce - Definitely my favorite, a bit saucy but the tofu was very tasty. Its drenched in sauce. (5/5) Chiu Chow Style Clam With Vermicelli - This was decent. The clams ranged from fresh to some not fresh ones. It was an alright dish, still enjoyed it. (3.5/5) Preserved Eggplant with Preserved Vegetable - Personally I would not get this again. It wasn't very good, lacked flavor and the eggplants had this gooey like texture. It was alright but not something I would recommend. (2/5) Dessert - They gave like a mung bean type che and a tgg tart like cake. Really enjoyed it and since it was free easy (5/5). Overall, Ocean Bo is always pretty good. It's my local Chinese Restaurant near home so we enjoy coming here when the family is looking for Chinese food. Not the best not the worst, right in the middle!

y'all found me at a very Chinese time in my life. I really enjoyed this spot, good prices, decent dim sum and efficient service! I would go again and just get har gow.

Delicious and authentic dim sum at reasonable, affordable prices! The staff were welcoming and attentive. You pick from the list of menu items, then the food is brought to the table. Hot tea is $0.99/person. The ambiance is clean, bright and loud as one would expect for a dim sum restaurant. Plenty of parking spots but come early to avoid long line. They also have a to-go section if you want to grab and go. Highly recommended!

    Daniel C.

The food was average to me. It tasted alright for the most part. My favorite was the radish cake. Everything else had a taste that wasn't bad nor good and the dessert didn't impress me. Unique if you're new to dim sum though.

Obviously, you can't come to a place that has lobster in the menu without ordering lobster, and we got the House Special Lobster (Large) with Garlic Noodle. Other items we ordered were the French Style Beef Cube, Braided Crab Meat & Fish Maw Soup, Beef Mongolian, Crispy Fried Sole Fish, BBQ Fried Rice, Clams with Spicy Sauce, Crispy Fried Squid with Salt and Pepper, and Clams with Black Bean Sauce. The portions are actually quite massive for each dish. All of it was very solid and tasty Chinese food. We were definitely very stuffed after this lunch was over! Service here is solid enough for a Chinese place. They were pretty quick with getting us extra plates to change out our dirty plates and more bowls as needed. And they were quick with the water. But yeah, you do have to flag them down to get their attention. They do have a parking lot here, and we got here early enough on a Sunday where parking wasn't an issue. However, I can see it being a problem on busier days. Boston Lobster is definitely worth a visit if you want solid Chinese food at a fair affordable price. Really good!

It is considered…read moreto be one of the best destinations for fresh seafood, with the accent on Chinese cuisine. What has shunned me from this place, is the distance and the traffic, from the SFV. Finally, I made the journey. And arrived for lunch, on a weekday. To come here and not order their iconic Signature dish, the House Special Newport Style Lobster, would be a sin. Imagine a trip that was almost 40 miles and an hour of traffic (one way), with no reward. It was time to experience the real thing. The signature dish. Walking in solo, I was given a booth. I liked that. On seating, I ordered a beverage to quench my thirst, catch my bearings and breath. Almost immediately, the servers kept bugging me to order. The place was barely 1/4th occupied. Whats the hurry. After all this, I had to repeatedly tell them, that i had already spoken with a server, regarding my order. Just wanted to relax first, catch my breath, sip my beverage. Coming here, I was aware that their tank lobsters would be in the 4-6 pound range. Good for, and ordered by, at least 3-4 people. So when I, as a solo diner, ordered a 4-pound lobster (with no other choice), just for myself, they began to leave me alone and give me more respect. The cut up wok prepared, House Special Newport Style Lobster, arrives wonderfully presented, with heaps of leeks, scallions and jalapenos. My kind of recipe. Truly unique and exceptional. There is no sauce, and only a mild flavor, yet tasty. My biggest concern here was (after reading numerous internet reviews), that the lobster would be rubbery and dry. Not so for me. I lucked out. Problem here is, while there is lots of meat (a 4 pound lobster will yield at the most, about a pound of meat), they do not have, or provide, the essential lobster cutlery, to do justice to this beautiful crustacean. I did ask though. They did not seem to care and told me to use my fork. LOL. Steamed rice is complimentary. So is a soup, with sweet and sour, being the only choice (I did not like this). Either way, my plan was to take leftovers (there was a lot), home, where I possess high class lobster cracking tools. And thank heavens I did. They were most useful, to crack and dig into all the lobster meat, that would have been inaccessible at the restaurant. With additional TLC, the leftovers held up well, to provide several additional lobster meals. Need to go back to try their enticing and reasonably priced variety of lunch specials (more seafood, choices minus lobster). Another sought after box on my list, is now checked.

The Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs had a slightly sour taste that made us question whether it was fresh, so we couldn't finish that dish. It was disappointing because everything else was fairly decent. However, if you want to try something a little different, there are some "traditional" Kaiping specialties that I haven't seen on menus anywhere else. I've always come with my family and have received great service because my dad knows the staff. They speak my home dialect so I'm sure there's some bias there. Foodwise, I've tried quite a bit and haven't had any dishes that didn't hit the mark for me. Standouts for me are the big claypot yellow eel rice, their specialty roast goose (the 2 dishes just listed may require a preorder but again, my dad usually handles all the ordering), their beansprout with pig intestine, and their egg plant with salted fish. The claypot rice is ordered by the kilo so really is a big party dish but has nice succulent pieces of eel, really well cooked rice, and then of course the crispy rice at the bottom. The goose is very flavorful and not super gamey, it has more of a meaty texture and bite than the younger poultry an American pallette may be used to so word of warning. I really like the beansprout with pig intestine, again not really gamey but very savory with very tender, fatty pieces of intestine (highly recommend even if you're hesitant with intestine). The eggplant with salted fish is also intensely savory with a pungency from the salted fish that may seem like a lot but melds really well with the sauce and overall flavor of the dish. Though I haven't tried every dish on their menu, I've tried quite a bit and can confidently say they'll bring out some tasty Chinese dishes.

Our server was a Chinese lady..probably didn't speak much of English and didn't come across as friendly but to be honest that's how you know the food is going to slap when you have a waitress with the meanest RBF...so don't be alarmed just know food is going to smack! LOL It's located in a very random place but there's plenty of parking. It's pretty laid back but I would say can be good for large groups. It's not too loud or rowdy at all.

This is our go to "I don't know what Chinese food place to go so let's go here"…read more I do want to warn that it is definitely a hit or miss! Depends on so many factors such as the day, time, and staff level they have because they don't have as many staff as you think they have). The food is good on weekend not so crowded times, depending on the season, they will have really good fried dishes, but on off days you might taste some old oil. Wait time tends to be long during rush hour lunch time for weekends and dinner for any day around 6/6:30pm. You can reserve a table if you planned to come here which will save you time if it's crowded. Staff tend to be short on weekdays, a heads up that they are working nonstop and usually are walking around. I rarely see them stop and do nothing, and it does get a bit difficult to flag the down when they are running around. Today, we had an off day, just opened on a Sunday for lunch and we ordered lunch specials, the provided soup for free but the tea was just boiled water. Took my dad two tries to tell them it was just water (and had to open the pot to show them). Our food started coming around 11:30am and also more tables got filled up quickly so the staff are more occupied, you may need to catch them when they bring you a dish. Unfortunately, an error occurred and they forgot one of our dishes and since they were so busy we sort of finished our meal without it. So we had to bring it to their attention once we got the check (and it was counted on the check despite it not arriving to our table) l, they had to check to make sure we didn't get it. I will also say that the furniture is as used and old and always here until it breaks. The furniture are slanted, wobbly, chipped, stained and missing things. It looked like you would try and avoid this place but it doesn't bother me or my family. The food is still good and I always leave with a satisfied feeling.

A fav place of mine for family meal! The roast duck and cha…read moresiu are the best in town. After having theirs, other places just can't compare to their quality and taste. Tried a majority of the menu items and so far, everything was yum and tasty! Ambiance is your typical Asian setting service...but still quick and efficient. This location also has private rooms if you are looking for a room for a small event. Room for three tables max.

Note: This review is solely for the service. Wait...what service?…read more I happened to spot this place while running an errand, and decided to give it a try. Walked in... then walked right back out. There was an older Asian lady with a short pixie haircut working the front. She looked like the only person around. I stood there for a few minutes waiting to be served. She looked at me. I looked at her. She walked back to the register. Then she went to serve a table and looked at me. I looked back. Then she walked back to the register and turned her back to me. I walked over to the menu. She looked at me again. I looked back. At that point, it felt like we were in one of those romantic K-dramas where two people keep exchanging glances... except nobody ever said a word. Then she went to help someone else without so much as a "Hi," or an "I'll be with you in a minute." So I took the hint and walked out. For the first time in my life that I left a restaurant without ordering because of a silent staring contest. That was definitely... interesting. Onto the next adventure.
