French style filet mignon (not on lunch menu)

The local spot for Chinese food. It's still very busy, so I can see it being intimidating for people who don't speak Chinese. The cashier at the front speaks English. It's busy no matter lunch or dinner. Prices are reasonable. Get the bitter melon soup. Credit card/Apple Pay accepted. Bathroom in the back. Plenty of parking in the lot.

Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Came here for family gathering. I was surprised they have lunch special menu on weekends. Winter melon soup was ordered a day earlier and it was delicious. Fried squid was ok, fried fish looked like it was undercooked I have never seen fried fish color like this. Sweet and sour spare ribs was delicious. Another highlight dish was steam pork with salty fish. We ordered a lot of dishes and I have no complaints. They are all pretty descent and acceptable. I will be back. Service is what you would expect from typical Chinese restaurants.

Mr. Chopstick is THE place to eat amazing, authentic Cantonese food. It was packed when I went there. They have very good service - polite, quick, diligent, and no frills. Same thing with the interior - Simple decor, round tables, a backdrop, and no frills. The pictures outside are a bit worn down, but that's how you know they've got good history! The signs inside are also mostly written in Chinese. Even so, the staff speaks English a the menu also has English, so there won't be language barriers. The food is AMAZING! Comes in big portion and is very affordable, better than what my family can make at home. The highlights for me are the fried salt pepper pork, fish with Chinese broccoli, and stir fried beef. Lastly, they provide complementary dessert soup. Overall, I loved eating here and will come here whenever I want to take a break from cooking at home!

Hidden gem in El Monte. Located in a small plaza where parking can be a bit issue since it gets pretty busy there. I love love their food. Reasonable price with generous portions. Ambiance is a typical chinese restaurant. Service can be a hit or miss depending how busy they are. But i will definetly go back.

The servers don't even pay attention to you and are rude. We asked for to-go bags and boxes and they told us to get ourselves. There was a piece of hair in my shrimp...gross. The food was not good. Tables and chairs were dirty. Usually I don't mind bad service if the food is good but this is all around terrible.

** CUSTOMERS BEWARE ** ALWAYS double-check your bill. This restaurant will overcharge you if you don't pay close attention. We came for their lunch specials and ordered five dishes. The total came out to $145, when it should have been around $75--an overcharge of about $70. I've attached a photo of the incorrect bill (check #0046416) for reference. When I brought this up to another server, she kindly re-calculated it and confirmed the mistake. I asked who had done the original calculation, and she pointed to the person I believe is the manager. When I asked him how he came up with that total, he brushed me off, told the server to fix it, and walked away without even making eye contact. His attitude and body language gave off a very shady vibe, like an "Oh, I got caught--oh well" moment. It really makes me wonder how many other customers have been overcharged without realizing it. As for the restaurant itself, the lunch specials were reasonably priced, and portion sizes were fine. The service, however, could use improvement -- we had to ask multiple times for basic things. We ordered the fish filet with black bean sauce, chicken with vegetables, beef chow fun with soy sauce, a rice vermicelli dish, and roasted squab. The fish filet and beef chow fun were decent. My parents enjoyed the squab, and my wife liked the chicken with vegetables. However, we'd all pass on the rice vermicelli. Overall, given the circumstances of the overcharged bill, we won't be returning to support this kind of practice. If you do decide to eat here, please make sure to review your bill carefully before paying.

The good ol' Chinese family style sit down with the lazy Susan to spin and share. I'm not sure if it was just the group I was with or the staff aren't very attentive. Like they know Uncle really well they don't waste their time walking over. The type of familiarity where you just yell across the room for what you want. The food is amazing as always, this visit especially since the garlic fried pork was on point.

THUMBS UP TO FOOD

This restaurant is a must try! I came in extra hungry and tried the walnut shrimp, the winter melon soup, and the famous roasted squab. The service was incredible, waiters were really attentive. Here's my overall rating of the food: - Roasted Squab (10/10): nice crispy exterior and a juicy meat Will come back again for this Please try!!

This is my second visit to Mr. Chopsticks since the end of the pandemic. One reason is that the ownership has changed, and we are unfamiliar with the servers except for one. However, I am glad I chose to come back. Since our party is small and we can't make a reservation. We opted to come early to get a table. Wow, it seems our early is not easy enough. The parking lot and the restaurant were full when we arrived. I waited for 20 minutes for a table, which is not bad. We ordered the fried pigeon, crab meat soup, beef cube, tofu, and O Choy. All of them were delicious. The service may be lacking, but if you have patience, you will get their attention and get the service.

Say what you want about Mr. Chopsticks (filthy, bad service, etc) but you cannot deny that the place is always packed from open to close because their Lunch Specials are the best around town. I've been coming here since I was a kid and their food is consistently good. I personally had EXCELLENT service at my most recent visit and I left completely full and happy. The place is not in the best condition and I do suggest minor remodeling may boost their business more, but just because they old school wouldn't stop me from giving them my business. Thumbs up! 4/5!

We are a family of 5 that came on 6pm on Sunday. We got the last table because all the other table were reserved. If you have a large party make sure you call ahead and reserve your table! My favorite from here is always the walnut shrimp and salt and pepper pork chops.

Must try!!! Ginger Milk Pudding

The food is excellent. Typical Cantonese and HoiSan cuisine is served without MSG. Their Squab is done to perfection, crispy skin and juicy inside. Their Duck is equally good! A must try is their Winter melon (whole) soup. Ingredients are placed inside a whole melon and slowing steamed(you may have to call ahead to order because time is required to make this soup). The pork patties are also notable because they don't use ground pork but hand chopping. My favorite item comes in the end in dessert form. It's their Ginger Milk Pudding (have to order)!!! Portions are good and prices reasonable. Service and Ambience is OK, but remember you go here for the food!!!

Fried tofu

My family and I had two squabs (the squabs were small, but the meat was tasty and moist. Price per squab was over $20 each. We agree it was expensive for the size of the squab and wouldn't order it again, but it was good to try.), 1000-year-old egg Chinese porridge (juk), chicken chow mein, fried tofu (light and delicious!) and Chinese broccoli (fresh, delicious, generous portion for the price - highly recommend!). Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The vegetables with pork house soup was comped. The lunch specials included rice. Such a deal! Come early when the place opens at 11am bc the place gets packed. Free parking on the lot. Dong gwa (winter melon) garden in the back, which you can see thru the window, yields melon for delicious winter melon soup.

Traditional Chinese seafood! Very busy during weekends and evenings. Great food! They have a large dining area, ideal for large families.

Came to the Rosemead location to celebrate a family member's birthday on a Friday evening. We were…read moreable to call ahead earlier in the morning and ask if we could be on the wait list or reserve a table. They told us they could reserve a table for us at 6pm. We originally were hoping for 7 or 7:30, but based on how busy and popular this place is I can see why they said no. Come early and get seated right away and there's still ample parking in their parking lot. By the time we left at 7:30p, the lot was packed and people circling around hoping to snag a spot from folks leaving. The restaurant is pretty large and has about 3 rooms with different size tables and booths. No matter the size of your party, there's a table that will accommodate. The staff were very nice and attentive and FAST! We had our food out probably 15 min after we put in our order! Now...on to the food. We ordered one of the set menus for our party of 7 and it was spot on! As you can see in the pictures we had all the "classics". Our set meal could easily be enjoyed by at least 10 people. We had so many leftovers! The food was all well prepared and sufficiently seasoned. Portions of each dish was plentiful and everyone will be able to get enough to satisfy. My favorite items: lobster (duh!), kung pao chicken, pork chops, and shaking beef. The seafood soup is a great starter, and don't forget to add a little vinegar and pepper! Great restaurant in the SGV. This location is much bigger than their Rowland Heights restaurant, but the food is exactly the same. This is a great alternative to the popular Newport Seafood, so don't sleep on this place!

Been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant. Haven't been to one in a while. This place was…read morerecommended to us by a friend. Came at 530 pm on a tuesday, and there wasen't anyone here yet. Afterwards it filled up quickly!! The main thing I dont like about this place is they dont have the prices on what your ordering. Which I'll get too at the end. Like any other Chinese restaurant, their menu is super extensive. I love how they have a little bit of everything. And its very well organized too. We ordered the following: 1. Crab and fish maw soup- this soup was amazing. It was just the right temp. Got me sweating. Can easily feed 12 people. Great amount of maw. The consistency is just right. Tasted so good!! 2. Small lobster special- on a bed of noodles. It was about 5 lbs. Cooked well. Could do without. Basically flavors. And it was expensive!! About $30 a lb. So this one dish cost basically the same amount as all the other dishes. Which was just too much. If I knew it was that much I would definitely not have ordered it. 3. Walnut shrimp- not the best walnut shrimp I've had. But it was ok. 4. Garlic shrimp- this shrimp dish was ok. Too many bell peppers and onions. It was just ok. 5. Mongolian beef- flavors were not that great. Very tender though. Could've been better. 6. Sea trout- this was amazing!! I love the sauce. Fish was so soft and tender. The heat, the spice, the sweetness. Some of that sauce in white rice was just perfection. It was really really good. Best dish of what we ordered. 7. Kung pao chicken- this was a really good dish. Crispy bits of chicken. But so soft and tender inside. I love the sauce that it was in. It was by far one of the highlights of the meal. It was good food. Price for everything (except the lobster) was pretty good. Food tasted amazing for the most part. Typical Chinese customer service. Pay at the front. Massively large portions. Solid authentic Chinese food.

The decors were cool. We signed in to the waiting list. Waited outside and before long, we were called in and got our table. The staffs were courteous and friendly. This is a Vietnamese restaurant that also serve Chinese Foods. They have two sets of menus. One for Vietnamese dishes and the other one for Chinese dishes. Both menus offer a variety of selections. They even have Set Dinner Menu that comes with pre-set items. Have to give that a try one day. We ended up ordering the Bún Bò Huế and the Vietnamese Braised Fish. The Braised Fish did not come with steam rice, so we had to order the steam rice. For the drinks, we had the Peach Oolong Iced Tea and the 3-Colored Dessert. The Bún Bò Huế was very good. The Braised Fish was a little salty but still tasted good. The Peach Oolong Iced Tea was refreshing. The 3-Colored Dessert was very yummy. I enjoyed the sweet taste of it. They gave us orange slices for dessert on the house. The orange slices were so sweet and delicious. Will be back to try their other dishes I saw on their menus.

This soup is so pungent that the only time I get to savor it is at home and the stink doesn't leave your home for a few days. So, it is to my delight that they offer it here during the weekdays. It is a nicely stacked bowl that has everything but the kitchen sink in it - roast pork belly, catfish, squid, eggplant, and stuffed jalapeno with fried fish cake. Very filling and reasonably priced! The only reason I gave this place a 4 instead of 5 rating is because you can only order certain items from the menu when they open. I wanted to get some Chinese food to-go for my husband, but was told by the server that the other items were only available beginning at 10 am, which is odd to me.
