Went for an early dinner with my daughter and two grandsons. We didn't get greeted, but welcomed! Beautiful atmosphere. The waitress was amazing. Helpful, respectful and fast! We ordered the cauliflower appetizer, which was so good. Even the grandsons loved it. The rolls were fresh and warm, served with plenty of whipped butter. I ordered the filet mignon. it was a great quality and prepared with perfection. My daughter opted for the meatloaf, which I tried and it was delicious. My picky eater grandsons, five and six, loved the macaroni and cheese. it was made with unusual pasta that was not only excellent, but easy for them to scoop up! After hearing nothing but good things about this place on AM radio in Chicago we decided to give it a try, let's just say not a good idea. The Server was good but the food was for one to expensive for what ya get and the food was either cold or was very dry. The Ribs arrived less than Luke warm and almost cold and my G/F ordered the Chicken Vesuvio which was extremely dry with little taste. The burger I ordered didn't come with fries or anything- it was very over priced. I observed too many staff on hand and the managers not very propessional. We've been going here for years, and have been very supportive through the pandemic period. Since then, the prices have increased so much, it's cost prohibitive and the quality has deteriorated. And the coffee is undrinkable, even after complaining and getting fresh cups. My colleague and I were in Geneva for one night staying at the Herrington. We wanted to get a brisk walk in while we went to get some dinner. From what I understand, Geneva is full of culinary gems. For us we chose FoxFire due to the distance on foot AND the warm welcoming glow we felt from the sidewalk. The inside is really lovely -- high ceilings, rich bar, welcoming staff and the kitchen is 'open'. It was not too busy on a Tuesday evening which was fine by me. From start to finish our server was outstanding -- hence the five stars. She was personable, helpful and you could clearly see she really loves her restaurant and job. She turned me on to the local brew Penrose which was delicious... I could have thrown a couple more back had I not had to do a workshop the next morning. We both ordered house salads and the steak/frites. I actually ordered mine "medium, because too many undercook medium rare". She put me down for medium rare and mentioned the owner was in the kitchen. Well, he cooked a magnificent medium rare steak and it was delicious and flavorful with the pesto sauce on top. For desert we had the brownie a la mode... oh my. So I am a brownie fanatic. Forget the brownie -- the vanilla ice cream was out of this world creamy and delicious. Went there with a business party of four. The server felt he was always right, and we were wrong. The service was very very slow, and the steak was nervy and not worth the price. The Chicken Marsala was dry. The calamari appetizer and tuna were just ok. Many better options for less money in the area on 3rd street or in St Charles, Illinois. This "restaurant" needs to retrain their staff, or they won't need to worry about it much longer . . . albeit they have daily specials that are cheap and tend to keep traffic coming in. This was our first time here. Our service was good ambience and decod is outdated. I ordered chx marsala and the rest of our table ordered steak and prime rib. My chicken was impossible to cut into and smelt spoiled. And the two prime ribs couldnt be cut into ( This was a complaint at other tables as well). They dud replace my dish with a basic burger but by the time i got it everyone at my table was done eating already. I requested my food to go which i threw out later that night. Service was terrible. The owners wife was in charge and she was extremely rude. The meat served was raw. Instead of properly cooking our food she argued. Meat with no grill marks is raw and she disrespected us to no end. It was my fiancé's birthday and we were treated like we had no idea what we were talking about. There was no apology for serving raw meat and no compensation. Not at all good with customer service. And after several visits over the years it seems like they have no idea how to treat a customer. First off, I hate Yelp. I think it's just a way to give rude people a voice to hurt businesses, however I'll most definitely write one for Foxfire. Foxfire has my most favorite steak in the world, the Oscar style Filet. Their wait staff is always absolutely fantastic, as is the management. Rarely have I had any issues with undercooking or overcooking steak, however the few times I have it's been corrected quickly and kindly. FoxFire was our choice for dinner on a double-date Saturday night! We made reservations for 6:00pm and once we checked in, we were seated fairly quickly. Our server, Jackie, was great. She tended to our table enough to where she was always around if we needed her, but wasn't annoying and gave us our space. She was very polite and even had a sense of humor! It's always a little awkward being the vegetarian at a steak house, so I can't appreciate enough when restaurants try to cater to the vegetarians too. Their menu was packed with a lot of options and I was excited to see a little section just for the vegetarians. I decided to go with their stuffed peppers. I really liked this dish! I'm obsessed with goat cheese, and the risotto was so creamy and delicious. I'm very happy that I got to eat a meal that wasn't a typical salad. Everyone else at the table got a different steak, and they were all satisfied and cleaned their plates. I forgot to mention, the bread they bring out before the meal was perfectly warm and fluffy. I probably could have eaten 3 baskets to myself. No shame. They had a good wine selection. I ended up only having 1 glass of wine, but I saw martinis on their menu and I wish I would have tried one! Next time. This place IS pricey. We knew that before going in since it's a pricier location and it's a quality steakhouse. But at least we had a good meal. read more

We recently dine at Foxfire for an investment meeting with Charles Schwab in Geneva. The starting appetizers of butterfly shrimp and stuffed mushrooms were among my favorite. On a chilly night we began with a warm delicious cream of rice and chicken soup. The entree was a perfectly cooked steak with a side of chicken in herbs and fresh vegetables. Not that we needed dessert but a hot brownie in ice cream finished off the night. I had booked a private room at a restaurant for 28 people a few weeks ago to host my daughter's baptism. The manager at the restaurant - the worst I have ever dealt with - did not remember the time I needed the room and therefore double booked it. After screaming at me and unprofessionally hanging up on me, I was left stranded at the last minute with 28 people to feed. Panicked, I began calling around. Foxfire immediately set up seating for 28 in their outdoor tent. Our waitress was INCREDIBLE and the food was truly out of this world. I could not believe that during Covid, a time when restaurants staff less and invest in smaller food quantities, they were able to accommodate such a large last minute group as well as feed us with no restrictions. Not only did it cost less, but the food was hands down a hundred times better than anything I have ever eaten at our first chosen location. We tried Foxfire out for our weekly date night after we had someone recommend it. Sadly, we were disappointed in the overall experience. Our table and the ambiance was amazing, but that's about where the impressiveness ended. We ordered 2 drinks which were sorely overpriced for what they were, poorly mixed, and too full of ice to enjoy the flavor. We ordered the charcuterie board and were disappointed to find brown, overripe apples and spoiled salami. To be fair: It was taken off of our bill at the end. Finally, we ordered our steaks which came with wilted side salads, and were undercooked from our preference for both of us. Though they were undercooked, we did enjoy the steaks but that's about it. Went with a friend down to Geneva. Stopped in at Foxfire restaurant. The have a very nice patio and we got to sit outside and listen to a band. Had their Cajun steak sandwich. Very tasty. Spicy but not too spicy. That's steak was really tender. Very good. Had their sweet potato fries and a death by Chocolate cake. All food was delicious. Service was good. Owner even came out and said hello. They opened up the patio and extended it so they have a lot of outside covered seating. The owner said they were opening up the indoor part as well on Friday. I'm gonna have to stop out again. If their steak sandwich was that tender I got to assume one of those steaks is going to be just as good. I used the excuse of a $5 off coupon to come to the Foxfire for lunch. We have not been there for a while so I thought it is time to come back for lunch. I was not disappointed. My wife ordered the Angus burger and cole slaw. She loved the cole slaw and she kept saying that you know a Hamburger is good when you don't need catsup. She then reaffirmed that this hamburger doesn't need catsup because that is how good it is. I ordered the minestrone soup and a warm turkey sandwich with cheese and an incredible sauce. Both dishes were incredible. We ordered the creme brule to go and thoroughly enjoyed it this evening for dessert. The jazz music in the background was smooth and the lighting was just right. The owner seated us and we were promptly waited on by the bus boy (waiter in training) and the waiter. We hardly had any wait time. The restaurant was somewhat empty due in part to the lack of parking through no fault of their own. The city of Geneva could really use a parking garage to assist the businesses with parking as well as the events they have on that side of town. read more
