Two non-food recommendations: 1. Address your MESS at the host station. Diners waiting, people to and from the bar, servers delivering food, all squeezing through one tiny area. It's super congested and uncomfortable for everyone. Glad you're doing a good business but this almost ruins the experience. Fix the flow! 2. Hooks in the ladies? Cost you maybe $10 to put a hook in each stall. We come in juggling coats and bags with nowhere to hang anything. So, you're asking us to put our items on the bathroom floor? Gross. An EASY fix. I stopped into FoxFire Steakhouse in Geneva, IL on a Monday to try their well-advertised Monday burger specials (half-off burgers). Unfortunately, the reality didn't live up to the promotion. Pricing Gimmicks Yes, the burgers are "half off," but once you start adding basic toppings, the deal disappears. A slice of cheese is $2-$3, mushrooms are $2.00, onions are $1.75, and other add-ons stack up quickly. By the time you're done, you're paying full price anyway. Not too mention you're paying for 2 full onions at Whole Foods, might as well cook at home. On top of that, FoxFire automatically suggests a 22-28% tip recommendation--which feels ridiculous. If prices need to be higher, just raise them so you can pay your servers. Don't play games with misleading discounts and inflated add-ons. Quality & Health For a place that calls itself a steakhouse in Geneva, the cooking choices were disappointing. FoxFire uses canola oil for its frying and prep--a cheap, unhealthy seed oil. In 2025, customers are more informed than ever, and seed oils are not what you expect at a steakhouse. If they upgraded to beef tallow (like true steakhouses used to use), not only would the flavor improve, but it would also align with the Make America Healthy Again movement--serving food that's actually nourishing. Better Alternatives If you want a real burger deal, skip FoxFire and head over to St. Charles Place. Their steak burgers are actually 50% off on Mondays and cooked in beef tallow, which makes all the difference in flavor and health. Bottom Line FoxFire markets itself as a fine dining steakhouse in Geneva, IL, but between the hidden costs, unhealthy cooking oils, and overpriced extras, I can't recommend it. We had a nice dinner here on Valentine's Day. I messed up and made our reservation a day early and didn't realize it until we arrived. We drove an hour through a snow storm. They were very accommodating even though they were crazy busy and squeezed us in. We had drinks at the bar while we waited. The supper club punch was yummy! The food was very good. This restaurant is in Geneva Illinois. Near the fox river. And let me tell you that they have some great food. There steaks are from Iowa and certified angus! I ordered a ribeye sandwich with grilled onions and instead of the Cajun sauce I chose to have Demi glaze put on my meat and every bite was better than the previous one. My side was Brussels sprouts and they were cooked to perfection. Soft inside and grilled slightly and they were delicious. There was an art fair in town and we went and walked around. A nice city and even nicer people. I would recommend foxfire restaurant to anyone traveling to Illinois. read more

Absolutely a sublime experience. Food was outstanding. My husband had scallops and I had the ribeye. Scallops were cooked perfectly. The ribeye is the best steak I have ever had. Flavorful, melt in your mouth perfection. The sides are equally spectacular. Don't sleep on the sides. Creamed spinach is so, so good. Maple roasted carrots are delightful. We spent the majority of the ride home gushing about the food. The food is that phenomenal. Service was outstanding. The staff is so polite and works well together. Our waiter, Chris, was fantastic. We've been looking forward for weeks to trying Foxfire after hearing about its high-quality steaks and seafood, not to mention the wonderful warm ambiance and surroundings. The bar and bartender were pretty good -- though ingredients for one of the cocktails were out of stock, and 2 of the basil margaritas seemed to have virtually no taste of basil. After finishing our drinks, the host set the 5 of us at a table directly next to a table linen folding station, literally 2 feet away, which was distracting and unacceptable. When I requested a different table, I was informed that we couldn't move because those had prior "double" reservations. Still not sure what that meant, but we also had reservations for 2 weeks prior, and the entire dining room was nearly empty. It was 4:30 PM. I asked if it's possible then to reserve a specific table, and she repeated the "double reservation" comment. Makes no sense. We started with calamari and "Nino's Mexican Shrimp cocktail." The calamari was soggy with no crispiness whatsoever, apparently it was fried in old oil that was not hot enough. The shrimp, though large, were nothing special -- 6 shrimp with a simple dipping sauce, I've made better at home. 3 of us ordered the Pittsburgh prime rib eyes, 1 ordered a shrimp dinner, the 5th short ribs. The steaks were nothing short of awful -- the worst any of us ever ate. Ordered as medium rare, all 3 were well overdone: tough, oversalted, comprised of 2/3 gristle, with extra rather plain sauces to accompany them. And these were $69 prime steaks -- really? That's close to the cost of a steak at Gibson's Steakhouse or Ruth's Chris. Inedible. Any chef would have or should have seen that these steaks were unworthy of serving and should have tossed them before setting them on the grill. The creamed spinach was a small pate of milk with a few spinach leaves floating in it, nothing creamy about it. The fries were cold and tasteless. Our friends rated their meals 2.5/5.0, every one of these steak meals were 0/5. Why did we not just get up and leave? -- because our friends and us wanted a happy time together over the holidays and we just didn't want to go search elsewhere at this point. The restaurant itself was beautiful, the hostess stand was in a weird spot next to the bar where servers were grabbing drinks from their table and we waited next to where the bussers were putting half eaten plates of food and empty drinks next to us, it was so busy there wasn't a good place to stand to not be in anyone's way. There was a particular gentleman who brought his dog into the establishment (gross) acting like he ran the place, came over several times to our table but then went back and yelled at our server for not being accommodating (wasn't their fault at all). Really disappointing experience. My wife and I stopped in for a date night and started off with the baked goat cheese appetizer. The app was delicious but a little runny and not enough goat cheese. Nothing impressive, but that was where the positive experience ended. For our entree we decided to try one of the specials, the caccio e pepe rigatoni with lobster bits in it. We planned to split between us. While we waited, the food runner brought us a completely different entree, the lobster and salmon risotto special. We actually considered that entree but glad we didn't, because you could see the salmon was overcooked and dry, the lobster also overcooked and dry. It sat at our table for about 5 min or so before we finally got ahold of our waitress and she agreed they brought out the wrong order, ours was still sitting up at the window... What was weird was that the waitress picked up the incorrect dish and brought it back to throw it out. Normally when you get brought the wrong dish like that and it sits on a table, Maybe even someone cut into it, staff would ask if we want them to leave it or take it away. Because you definitely cannot serve that again. So it was unusual customer service that she took it away only to throw it out and completely waste it since there wasn't actually something wrong with it, that's unusual service. Kind of tacky to be honest for what's supposed to be an upscale restaurant. When we finally got the dish we ordered, it was probably the most disgusting bowl of pasta I've ever had in my life. I know what caccio e Pepe is supposed to taste like, this wasn't even close to anything related to that. It was extremely watery and lacked cheese, tremendously. The sauce, if you can call it that, literally tasted like the pot water that the pasta cooked in. They definitely just spoon the pasta out of their pot with that water and just place it in the bowl. I have no doubt about where that taste came from and what that liquid was. The lobster in the pasta, there was maybe four tiny pieces and they were chewy as heck. And the texture of the pasta was like a TV dinner, it was extremely mushy and soft. They should honestly be embarrassed for serving this dish. The waitress did Fine, but didn't really seem like they took much care to the quality of food or acknowledging the errors being made, so overall it's supposed to be a nice steakhouse but It was just a really terrible experience with awful food. This is my second time there, the first time was better but maybe only 3 stars worth. I don't think we'll be back there for a third time. Not impressed. read more

We had heard this was the best steakhouse so we were a party of 6 with a reservation on a Sat night. Greeted by an unfriendly hostess and seated at an unsteady table right behind hostess stand. Manager yelled at 2 staffers while we were eating. Tables are crammed together right against a railing. Server told me to push my food 6" to the center of table because it sloped so badly it would fall in my lap. Silverware rolled right off the table! Not a good start. Appetizers were good. Steaks were very salty and portions extremely small for price. The beet salad with sweet potatoes had 3 thumbnail sized potatoes and was mostly greens. Salmon on top was cooked perfectly. Chicken Marsala had 3 mushroom slices and I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. Overcooked. There were 3 bites of mashed potatoes with it. The Lobster was exactly 3 bites. Seems to be a "3" theme here. It's very noisy and hard to carry on a conversation plus they have a live band. If you just want a drink, appetizer, and listen to a band, this is a good place. My boyfriend chose this restaurant for a date night for us. We called for a day of reservation and got in at 7 pm. The hostess stand is in the middle of the restaurant. There is limited street parking out front, but there is a large parking lot out back. On Wednesday night the bottles of wine are half off which was nice. They have a decent wine selection. We started with crab cakes which were delicious. Based by the pictures, I decided to go for the upcharge and get the caprese salad with my meal. I was happy with this choice. My boyfriend had the Ceasar salad which only looked ok. I had the 6 Oz filet and it was cooked just to my liking. It came with a small amount of mashed potatoes. My boyfriend had the filet medallions which came with fingerling potatoes. Those potatoes were excellent. We splurged and split a dessert as well. We went with the death by chocolate as that was recommended by our server. Prices were slightly high and service was a little slow. (Friendly service though by all staff encountered). Foxfire has high prices. Seafood dishes $24 and up. 6 Oz filet like $46, other steaks like up to $60+. Ordered the scallops de jonghe and a side salad. Italian dressing was like the kind you'd get at Olive Garden or an all you can eat buffet, certainly not the kind of dressing where meals were so expensive. Scallops de jonghe came out, there were only four. At $29 I expected 6, five for bare minimum. They seemed to have boiled the ocean to get these scallops because the primary experience first bite to end was salt. VERY salty. My wife had the ahi tuna which she found too salty and my son had cauliflower steak, also salty. The salt abuse is a shame because had the chef gone easy on the salt, I could have rated the dish 4 stars, five stars if 6 scallops. It had great elements like crispy garlic bits and good lemon flavor and nice crispy bacon pieces but the extreme salt took it down severely. Side salad besides sad mass produced mediocre dressing also seriously lacked substance. They should have thrown in an olive or two, some onion slice, some bell pepper. They had a vegan burger option then blew it by not having any vegan buns, which are easy to get. Until they bring down their salt levels and their high prices, I wouldn't eat here again. read more
