Friendly service, fresh food, good prices and a friendly bunch of people sitting at the counter. What more could you ask for?

You can tell how a good a restaurant might be if the locals eat there. And a lot of locals eat at The Geneva Diner. When you walk in you'll notice that this diner is small, but they had room for me and my mother. But what isn't small is their menu. They had a huge menu for a diner this small. When I saw a Sloppy Joe on the menu, I knew I had to get it. I haven't had a Sloppy Joe in over twenty years. It was prepared very well (with beef, green pepper, and onions) and had a taste that reminded me of my childhood. The sandwich came with chips. My mother ordered the grilled cheese, which was also good. The service was slow. It appeared that there was only one server and one cook. Overall, the atmosphere and food at The Geneva Diner was enjoyable. I recommend The Geneva Diner.

Wonderful little gem. We were vendors at the art show. we frequented here 4 times. they serve a decent amount of food at great prices. they accommodated my dietary wishes perfectly. Sam was our server every time, and he did a great job. they all worked together to make a great team. food was good, service fast. my parents return year after year. this restaurant does have the most bizarre little bathroom I've ever seen. it's in the basement.

Half of a leftover "Bill's Breakfast Sandwich"
    Julie M.

I ordered the Bill's Breakfast Sandwich the night before from the Yelp app, for pick up the next morning on my way to work. I am always a bit leery of doing that with old school restaurants like The Geneva Diner, but everything went perfectly. I was greeted warmly when I arrived and my sandwich had just been packaged and was ready to go. I was in and out in a second! The sandwich itself was tasty but I could only eat half. It needed salt and pepper in my opinion, so make sure and ask for some. The picture is of the leftover half of the sandwich that I just warmed up for my breakfast the next day. I would order from them again. It's not fancy, just good basic diner food.

I informed our server that I have celiac disease, and she was helpful in confirming that the cocktails were gluten-free. I ordered the Pineapple Express sangria, and it was absolutely delicious. When it comes to the food, most items on the menu can actually be made gluten-free, but they aren't marked on the menu and they do not offer a separate gluten-free menu. Our server did let us know right away that they were out of three of their entree items. For my meal, I started with the gluten-free soup which comes with gluten-free noodles, and it was really good. However, I didn't really like any of the remaining entrees they had left available, so I decided to order sides instead. The server mentioned that most of the sides are or can be made gluten-free. I chose the creamy mashed potatoes and the brussel sprouts, specifically requesting the sprouts without croutons. When the food arrived, the brussel sprouts unfortunately had croutons on them. I pointed it out to the server, and she immediately said she would have them remade for me. While I am very glad I caught the mistake before eating them, it is something to watch out for. Overall, the experience was mediocre.

It's an upscale establishment with absolutely wonderful decor: an old house that harkens back to times of yesteryear. Although this visit was quick it left me wanting more on a return visit, of which there will be!

On my…read morevisit here, I had the opportunity to try two dishes off the shareables menu and was super impressed with both of them. Service was also quick and friendly throughout the entire meal. The Birria egg rolls were a bit on the smaller side but made a big impression with its preparation. I've never had birria wrapped in anything as crispy as the wonton wrapper this was wrapped in. The birria was flavorful while being tender and not being too salty. The white cheddar and chihuahua cheese added a small amount of extra saltiness and a bit more fat, which matched well with the chipotle aiola. The duck poutine was incredibly flavorful, while sitting on the edge of potentially being too bold. The fries were incredibly crispy though there was quite a bit of gravy on the dish and the white cheddar cheese curds did a great job of keeping the entire dish hot throughout the meal, while adding a little bit of extra flavor. The bacon and onion added some umami though it almost made the dish a bit too salty and the duck confit added a nice protein element. Overall a little pricey, but given the more unique menu and quality of both the flavors and textures, it's worth the premium. The food here is definitely memorable and in line with excellent options available in Geneva.

They also changed up their cocktail menu, and we were super excited to see they had some new summer drinks. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants in the area. It's perfect for special occasions and date nights. The first two times we came we sat at the bar, but we came right when they opened and were able to be seated at a table. I love the candlesticks they have lit at the tables. There's a a view of the kitchen as well. To drink, I had the Dip in the Backyard Kiddie Pool (very refreshing) and Fresa Fresca (basically a strawberry margarita and it was super refreshing and tasted like strawberry juice). For dessert, we shared the oreo carjillo. It was pretty strong to me, but it definitely tasted like Oreos and milk! To eat as an appetizer, they gave us complimentary bread and butter and we ordered the sundried tomato oil to go along with it (a must). Their bread is so soft and fresh. We also got the bone marrow (forgot to get a photo), and it was some of the best we've had!! For our entrees, we got the two pasta dishes. They called them "small plates" but it was the perfect amount of food for us with our appetizers. I had the spicy carrot rigatoni pasta and it was super fresh. I love that they cooked the pasta al dente.

We loved everything about The Graceful Ordinary from the ambience to the amazing service (thanks Karen!) to the creative cocktails to the delicious food. When we arrived at the table, there was an anniversary card from the staff. Nice touch! We were brought a loaf of the warm housemade bread with whipped butter to begin. Hubby ordered the Having a Moment bourbon cocktail, and I had the Honey Kiss vodka and elderflower cocktail. Love their creative cocktail list. Karen was a fabulous server, so attentive and friendly. The other staff was on top of everything from water being refilled to clearing dirty dishes and even fresh butter brought to the table when it was low. Our needs were met before we even needed to ask. Also, since Karen knew that we were splitting all the courses, she automatically had the food split between two plates. I liked that. We decided to split everything we ordered. We started with the smoked salmon deviled eggs which were creamy delicious, not to mention beautifully presented. Our second starter was the bone marrow with caramelized shallots. This dish was absolutely amazing. My only critique would be to put four pieces of bread on the plate went two people are sharing. Our next course was a salad and we went with the roasted beet salad with blue cheese and sunflower shoots dressed in a warm bacon vinaigrette. Bacon - need I say more? Our main course was the walleye with ricotta gnudi, fava beans, peas and wild mushrooms. So many flavors and textures going on. The fish was perfectly seared and moist. Delectable. We thought about dessert but we were so full from dinner that we passed. Karen wouldn't let us go without a complimentary dessert in honor of our anniversary to enjoy at home, their signature butterscotch pot de crème with sea salt caramel. The Graceful Ordinary certainly made our anniversary special with the anniversary card at the table, and the complementary dessert. If you're in the western Chicago burbs, I highly recommend checking this restaurant out.

We asked to have a small sample of two beers to make sure we'd enjoy one or the other. The sample was appreciated and helped us decide on the Kolsch. For food we went with half Turkey sandwich with Chicken Tortilla Soup, half Reuben Sandwich with Chicken tortilla soup, and a Pub Burger. The food was very good. Our friend was still eating when the server took the other plates away and left the check, never asking if we wanted another drink or dessert etc. A few minutes later the server returned and asked if we were ready to pay the bill and again our friend was still eating to which we pointed out and said no. Approximately 10 minutes after that we were ready to finish up. We were there less than an hour. We put our card in the check wallet and each of us proceeded to use the washroom separately as it was only one stall/bathroom. I was the last one to use the washroom and as I came out my friends were standing near the door with my purse and coat as they were told they needed the table. I understand the place is small and people were waiting but to be rushed out is ridiculous. Especially to be rushed while still eating. The food was great but the lack of allowing us to enjoy the experience left us very disappointed.
