Stopped in for breakfast with my family at the Geneva State Street Diner and experienced great service with even better food. We all left satiated and had a quick trip. It is a small, intimate location with booths, tables, and bar style seating. Will most definitely visit again!

Food is delicious, always is very warm welcoming environment! Wasn't too please with what I was charged for a side of Salas... it's absolutely delicious but was shocked by the charge..

My love and I recently visited the town of Geneva, Illinois for a weekend date. It was time for lunch, so we wound up at State Street Diner, located on the relatively busy State Street in Geneva. I did not even go into the actual establishment, which I believe is a pretty compact venue. Fortunately, they were serving food outside at a few tables, so our table for two under a tent did the trick for us. Note that the dine-in option may have just changed at this restaurant thanks to the rising wave of Covid-19 in Illinois, so check ahead to see if you can still eat there (seems you can still dine outdoors below the tent). Though the menu has many breakfast faves, we both opted for lunch items. I am usually a bit skeptical of Mexican dishes served at an American-style diner, but I was sold on the Burrito Suizo based on its photo in the menu. Sure enough, my impressive-looking burrito came to our table looking bedazzled just like the depiction. I asked for chorizo in the burrito, which was topped with dollops of guacamole, drizzled crema, cheese, and Ranchero sauce. My love went with the Geneva Burger with crinkle-cut fries, and I barely had room to sample a bite of her dish.

My parents and I absolutely love state street diner. We have been coming to this restaurant for 8 years at least!! All the servers are super friendly and attentive. The place has a beautiful mural and it's pretty to look at. It's a bit small of a place and the bathroom is through an awkward hallway past the kitchen but for that price of food and the amazing consistent service who can complain?

Great service from the minute we walked in. Fast service and the food was great! I highly recommend!

Great food and better service! Ana is a delight! I come here to meet a friend that lives in Geneva. I am never disappointed. It can get busy -- plan ahead! :)

Dirty spoon among the unclean table service placed on napkins and waiting at the table upon arrival.

Disorganized and a very long wait. Don't bother unless you have at least 2 hours to spare for your meal. By the time you get there, wait for a seat, wait for table service, get the dirty silverware replaced, and place your order, you will need to wait yet another 45 mins for your food. After 45 mins went by (having been there for 90 mins and left for breakfast 2 hours prior), there still wasn't any food brought to the table - got up and politely left having placed enough cash on the table to more than cover my drink. As I left, I was told by the woman running the place that I should not come back unless I'm ready to expect at least a 45 minute wait for food on a Saturday. I have no idea if the food is any good.... I just know it can't be good enough to be worth all that trouble. I won't be back.

Tried this for the first time today 3/5/21. Quaint, dinner style place. Fantastic food. Do it... you know you want to!

I ordered the nachos with chicken and they were so filling and delicious that I didn't order an entree for dinner. My brother had the fajitas and he can be picky! He said they were delicious. The drink menu is generous. They offer some unique margaritas that are a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. The blueberry lavender margarita tasted amazing - it was very sweet! That was on me, but still, the drink itself was solid. For my meal, I got the spicy shrimp appetizer, and we also shared guacamole and chips--probably the best guac I've had yet! The chips were light and airy, which I really appreciated. Our friends got the fish tacos with a side of rice and beans--also very fresh and flavorful. The tuna tacos were great too. Our waiter was really nice and had no issue splitting the checks for us. The inside is nicely decorated, and the wall of tequila adds a fun touch. The outdoor seating felt a bit cramped though--where we sat, it seemed like we were super close to other tables, and it was a little tight for the waitstaff to move around. Overall, a really good experience! They weren't kidding when they said spicy shrimp--it was definitely spicy, but in the best way. The breading and flavor were on point.

My boyfriend had a variety of tacos (fish, shrimp, and ribeye steak) but the fish taco was his favorite. There were only 2-3 young men working the front of the house and they were hustling. They spoke very loud and clear (a good thing!) and stayed busy taking orders, cleaning tables, and checking on guests. Job well done to those hard workers. Inside is a bit tight. When we visited, a part of the restaurant was closed off for a party so seating was limited to the few tables up front. However, there are some tables outside and you're super close to St Mary's Park so you could always get your order to-go and picnic at the park.

Don't waste your time on asking for salsa verde because it tastes like nothing. The queso fundido is good but gets dry and hard fast. It's not very cheesy and melty like others I've had. Don't waste your time on the guac either, it's just mashed avocado. It needs some seasoning or spice or lime at minimum. And the chicken fajita's are absolutely awful. It was so disappointing. They have a very sweet and almost bbq-like taste. Also, you really don't get much chicken even. It's mostly just onions and peppers. I had to spit them out. The rice is good though. I'd some back for drinks and chips & salsa but that would really be it. The server was good and attentive and the restaurant was decorated for Valentine's Day. It was cute. This was my mother's first time visiting your Geneva restaurant, although she has enjoyed other Hacienda Real locations in the past. It was my first time dining at any Hacienda Real, and based on this experience, I'm not eager to return! The issues began with extremely poor service. We repeatedly had to chase down our server, Alejandro C, whenever we needed something. The food was also disappointing. The salsa served with the chips reminded me of chunky Tostitos wasn't good or authentic. The steak fajitas were very skimpy and had a super charred taste. For my son's chicken fingers the only dipping sauce available was ketchup? No other sauces. They made my mom's plate wrong three times to the point where I had to get up and go to the receptionist a young girl with glasses and a little black skirt on "helped" me.
