We tried Burger Local last weekend as it's been on our list for a while. They have a nice outside - close to the parking garage, but it was too hot to eat al fresco. Surprisingly - after talking about the heat - my husband and I both started with the Chili Verde - w/ braised pork & hominy. It was outstanding. A lot of pork, spices and hominy in the dish. There was definitely a kick and I felt it was the highlight of our evening - in terms of food. For drinks - we got the Patio Pounder and Declaration of Independence cocktails - both pretty good. For burgers - we got the Elotes and the Four Pepper w/ the side salads with dill + mustard vinaigrette. Their salad dressing was quite good and next time (if there is one) I would get their salads - just to try more of the dressings. I say this b/c the burgers were just okay. On paper they sounded much better. I ordered mine medium - and it was definitely more well done. And while we love pretzel roll buns - it was too much bread/bun to the ratio of ingredients. It was impossible to eat w/o a fork and knife. Which you think might not be bad, but it felt like too much. And having the burger too done sort of ruined it. I had the short rib burger, which included a patty plus red wine braised short rib, gruyere, and caramelized onion; others in the party had the Elotes burger, BBQ burger and Quesabirria burger, among others. They also have salads, tacos, build your own Mac and cheese, and an array of appetizers. Our waitress was pretty basic, nothing beyond taking the order and bringing the check (one friend wanted to get more iced tea but she never rematerialized to ask). Service is meh. Food is meh. Swear the 3-4 times I've been there the girl with hella tattoos is dropping and breaking glass and she thinks it's the funniest thing ever. The nachos are a scam. There's little to no cheeese in them. Barely any meat, and it comes in this gimmicky trash can that does nothing but make it hard for the server to remove and sometimes the chips or topping fall off the plate. Burger is way too salty and the fries are terrible. Frozen, undercooked, over salted crap. Many places are serving fresh cut fries so when you get frozen from a bag it's obvious and tastes bad. Not super clean in there either. If they have blinds open you'll see all the dust floating through the air. It's kinda whack. Always shocked at the business it gets. Probably because location and the build-out is ok. I remember this place being decent 10 yrs ago, but the last 3 yrs I've came probably 3 times and all have been like the experience I share above. The Burger Local is a spot I can't wait to visit again. My husband and I decided to run in for a quick date night and we were surprised. The crowd for a Friday night was light but still busy. My husband and I ate at the bar and enjoyed the music, conversation and games on the television. Jill was our bartender and sever and she was phenomenal. She effortlessly kept busy and aware of our needs. I asked her to make me a French 75 and she effortlessly made a drink she wasn't very familiar with! Kudos to Jill!! I've had the mac and cheese before and loved it - very filling and a generous portion. Tonight I tried the sushi bowl. I was worried it would be too spicy but it wasn't at all. Stopped by Burger Local midafternoon on a Sunday. The restaurant is located on a street corner directly next to the Geneva Metra train stop. There is free street parking on 3rd street and free metra parking on weekends. They have a small outdoor patio area as well as a fairly large indoor dining area and bar. The restaurant is beautifully designed with a dark interior, modern accent lighting, green walls, and rustic tables/chairs. We snagged a table inside without any wait. We decided to just order mains: the Quesabirria Burger ($18) & BYO Mac n Cheese ($12) which I added bacon ($2) and onion strings ($1). Food came out steaming hot and fresh! The Mac n Cheese has cavatelli noodles, creamy cheese and toppings of choice. While the entree doesn't look overly large, it was filling! I got a little less than halfway before needing a to go box. My partner ordered the Quesabirria Burger as it was unique to the menu and listed as a "chef's pick". I wouldn't quite deem itself as a "burger" but it came as marinated meat with cheese and onions between a large tortilla shell. It paired with a traditional style sauce that was mild but flavor packed. Overall, our food was delicious! Where the experience lacked a bit was the service. Initially we got waters right away but after that, the server lingered before checking in to take our order as well as get us a to go box/check. I was told 30 minutes for a table on a busy Saturday night when a street festival was going on, but they seated us after no more than 10 minutes. The service was quick and friendly. And the assortment of burgers in the menu really wowed me! Creations like an elote burger or a burger topped with artichoke hearts, spinach, and garlic aioli. Yum. But a disclaimer as well. Don't order a burger with the skimpy little 4oz wagyu patties. It's criminal to pay for Wagyu and then cook it like a well done smash-burger. If you want a smashed burger go to 5-Guys. Choose the 10os regular beef patty. That's a damn good burger. Also, the Brussels sprouts side was good, but they are stewed not roasted, so know what you are getting. read more

Tried Burger Local recently on a lunch break from work. The place is clean, modern and spacious. Located right by the train station area in Geneva. The food was pretty good - I got a wagyu burger with egg and bacon. It came with a salad. Overall it was tasty and fresh. Pricing is a little bit high for burgers and sandwiches but probably close to the price for the area. Service was ok. What was really frustrating is that I was seated right by the door and every time the waitress came in and out of the restaurant, the wind would hit me in the face and my hair would get in my face and food. The gust of air which was somewhat chilly was also annoying. **Frustrating** The table right next to the side door should probably be moved or staff should ideally use the front door as it will be annoying to pretty much any customer that eats at that table. read more

I'll start with the good and then get to the bad at the end. I will preface this by saying most of this dinner was great. We first ordered a starter, which was the Tots with braised short ribs, grilled onions, queso, au jus, parmesan, and I'm guessing a little bit of crack, because it was perfection and I'm still thinking about it. If you are contemplating this starter, just do it. For the mains we each split out burger with each other and one of them was the clear winner. Burger one was the falafel burger, and it was delicious. I figured with meat on the starter that this would be a good choice for burger, and I was not disappointed. This could easily be my go to Burger here. It was a little messy, but a good burger should be. Burger two is where the negatives come into play. She ordered the quesabirria burger, and we will never order that mess again. For starters the consumé was the consistency of ketchup, not a beef broth with onions and such. To make it worse, it tastes like someone knocked a container of salt into it. It was terribly salty and neither of us finished our halves. And to top it all off, the burger patty was dryer than my grandmother after menopause. The second negative part of this visit was the onion rings. The flavor was decent, but the batter was so thick it killed the onion flavor, and made it unpleasant to eat more than two, just way too rich and greasy. The fries however were amazing. Lovely! Pleasantly surprised this place is soo cute and stylish inside! It was very crowded (~6pm Friday night Memorial weekend in Geneva - go figure ofc) but plenty of bar seats. Incredible service seated at the bar, quick friendly and personable. I had the beyond burger and they were easily able to accommodate modifications and whatever, totally chill. Yummy! Not bad at all on price, surprisingly wide menu too. Can't believe it took me this long to come here (jk I'm a pescatarian it was very reasonable to hold off on a BURGER restaurant). Anyway, happy I got to come thru, and they have a long cocktail list. The beer on tap is good, always get a Blind Corner if you see one! I recently went to the burger local in Geneva to watch a Monday night football game. The Atmosphere was a bit slow. It is a Monday in November just before the holidays so that's understandable. The bartender was great. She got me a menu and a drink right away. The menu is pretty standard fair for a bar, but there are some interesting items like the burger salad which is just what it says no bun a lot of lettuce and a well cooked burger. One of my favorites is the jalapeño poppers, big portion filled with a great cream sauce really good! All it was a great meal. Thankful that this was not our first experience at Burger local. Because had it been we would not be going back. It seems as though the level of service and food quality has gone downhill in past years. We went out tonight to celebrate a birthday. And at one of the worst restaurant experiences that we've had in a long time. Not gonna bore you with the details but the important things where we waited 10 minutes before we were even greeted by a server. Waited another almost 15 minutes to get straws where we had to ask three different employees for them. All of our burgers were way overcooked. One of the reasons why we go to burger local is because you can get your burgers cooked on the more rare side and we ordered our rare and medium rare and they came out well done We never got the chance to bring it up to our server because they did not come back to check on us until almost 20 minutes after we received our food and by that time our food would have been ice cold. So we just sucked it up and ate. It then took us another 15 minutes to get to go boxes having to ask for them multiple times. Even refills on water were very hard to come by. They were not overly busy. Not on a wait. I've seen this place jampacked and had amazing service. But tonight completely missed the mark. The cocktails are incredible and made perfect by Abbey. And of course to get to the actual name of the place, burgers are on point in flavor. You can tell there is a blend of meat that works great. The drinks were flowing, the appetizers were phenomenal and what was just waiting for me to get demolished were the Korean Short Rib tacos. The tacos arrived and they were hand delivered by the manager of the restaurant and before he placed my food down, he said, "these are really good." You know the food is going to be good when the manager of the restaurant gives his approval. I'll be the first one to say if something doesn't taste right, I have no issues telling whoever that is that it wasn't good. My thought and reasoning behind this is that you should never lie and say something taste good when in reality it doesn't. You're doing a complete dis-service to the chef and how are they suppose to get better to provide the best testing quality food they can make? But if it's your mother-in-law asking, then you lie like you've never lied before and always ask for more. The tacos arrived with my side of fries but I had no interests in the fries and you are served 3 good portioned tacos. They accompanied the tacos with kimchi, avocado, and cilantro. All the toppings had the right balance and worked off each other magically. The short ribs were seasoned in a way that highlighted the Korean flavors to a tee. As you guessed, the tacos were great and again I was not disappointed. I hope they make this a permanent item on the menu so other people get a chance to try it. So TBL earned their 5 star review and I'm happy to have TBL in the area and I look forward to eating here for many more years to come. I'll start by saying the one lost star was because they didn't have a wine I would have liked with my burger. Now, everything else was GREAT! I had the Short Rib Burger which was incredibly well done. The Mac & Cheese side was beyond yummy and the Burger of the Month was more than my grown SIL could finish.
