Found out about this bar and restaurant in St. Charles. It has a pretty clean atmosphere with a mixture of a casual and upscale food menu. Whiskey Bend has a name that helps you choose what to order. Of course there's tons of liquors to choose from. These and the food can get pricy but there's a happy hour for money saving. Coming in here it was surprising we could get seats at the bar. It's got a happy hour. This is when to save money on the expensive menu. Got a few good things out of it. The liquor menu has tons. It's $10 for an Old Fashioned. This is a pretty strong one. Also has cheaper prices on food such as burgers. There's just not a ton of things here for vegetarians. It's about $16 for the Avocado Salad. This has cilantro, cucumbers, red onions, and tomatoes. A lot but it wasn't that filling. This is still probably the healthiest thing you can order. Got to come at happy hour. It's from Mondays to Fridays and includes drinks and some food items. Good friends of ours have been trying to get me here for a long time, they love it. We finally made it on a cold weekday night. I never even noticed it right next to Ghoulish Mortals. It's nice inside, they have a bar on one side and tables on the other. Our server was very good, answered questions and was attentive. We started with a Bourbon and Berry Lemonade that was recommended to us and those were outstanding. Not too sweet, very balanced and dangerous. They had me at beef tallow fries, I had to get a sandwich. Our friends love the smash burgers and that is what my wife got, I was in a different mood and went with the Alabama white BBQ sauce chicken sandwich. The fries are pretty great, perfect double fried, just like I like them. The Chicken sandwich was underwhelming, it tasted good everything was good about it but it was this kinda small, fast food looking sandwich. Plus it was like $18, for that I need more. These days with all the big impressive chicken sandwiches around, it left me very underwhelmed and disappointed. This is a gastropub in downtown St Charles right on Main Street with a pretty large food and beverage selection. I started with a Bloody Mary which was served simply with a lemon slice and a green olive. I upgraded to Tito's which was just $2 additional. The server was helpful in pointing out gluten free items on the menu for me. I chose the steak salad minus the croutons and it was delicious and so huge that I took half home. My husband had the short rib grill cheese which he enjoyed and he was glad to upgrade the side to Brussels sprouts which was worth $4 additional. The interior is nicely decorated but we would like to return on a dry day to enjoy hearing the band in the courtyard. Happy Hour menu is available Monday-Fri from 3pm to 6pm. read more

Ya know, I've heard the outdoor area is wonderful and inside is great. BUT, the service really wasn't great and the food didn't blow me away. I put us on the waitlist and upon arriving the host made it seem like there wasn't any room and we were an inconvenience- it was 5pm and there were tons of tables. Anyway, we got a table. Our waitress was nice but didn't seem like she wanted to be there. We ordered the zucchini fries but it looked like there was mold on them so we sent them back. Drinks were good! Went on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. It was not crowded at all and we sat ourselves. They do serve brunch items till 2 pm as well as American Fare Classics. My wife had a Bloody Mary and upgraded to Tito's for an extra 2.00. I had to try their Old Fashion which was just average in my opinion. We had to ask the server for napkins,water and silverware . My wife is gluten free and they did not have many options. She had the Steak Salad which was huge but they never asked how she wanted the steak cooked. I had the Braised Short Rib Grilled Cheese that came with Butterkase cheese which you normally do not see on a menu. I wish my sandwich had more cheese and was grilled longer. The meat made the bread soggy. I paid an extra 4.00 for their Honey Siracha Brussel Sprouts as a side. They were amazing. They have a nice outdoor patio with entertainment on the weekends as well as a midweek Happy Hour from 3-6pm. With over 100 whiskey options I will definitely go back but maybe for Happy Hour to take advantage of their food specials. read more

Came here with some friends last week. We all sat at the bar. Nice overall environment, very friendly staff. Our bar tender Corey recommended some cocktails. Sadly all the drinks tasted very off and too sweet. Overall he seemed very new to bartending. But he had a nice attitude. Food overall wasn't bad, but it seemed rather over priced for what you're getting. 222 burger was ordered mid rare and came closer to well, the pulled pork was really dry, you expect a bit better for an $18 burger. My friend had salmon which tasted also very dry. Appetizers were had were all very good however. Based on the pre-opening hype and my love of all things bourbon, I was hoping for something great. Unfortunately, it was anything but. My wife and I went on day 2 of the restaurant being open, and right off the bat, the first three were not available. The menu was pretty limited, and the stuff we ordered was disappointing. I ordered the hush puppies and they were painfully overfried to the point of almost being inedible without a large glass of water. My wife ordered a salad that was nothing but garlic cloves with a hint of lettuce. And we came to have bourbon. Unfortunately our server disappeared for an extended duration, so we ended up being one and done with our drinks. All of that said, what really irked me is that when we got our receipts, we learned that each pour of bourbon came with a $3 surcharge for no ice (which is not disclosed on the menu). I get the extra charge if the neat pour goes from 1.5 ounces to 2 ounces, but the pour was 1.5 ounces...and even it was a bit light. I also didn't like that the drink my wife ordered was from a bottle they didn't have one the shelf. I didn't see them pour and my wife ordered a bourbon that is a single barrel, so I can't say definitively what they did or didn't do. What I know is that I tried her pour and the flavor profile was not consistent with what she ordered. She asked for a Rebel 10 Year and what she had was eerily similar to a David Nicholson. Both are from Lux and both are wheated mashbill bourbons, but they generally don't have similar taste characteristics. It was great to give a new place a try, but I really can't see us going back again. read more

The service was excellent, our server was very attentive, and allowed us to take time to enjoy our dining experience. The dining area and bar are beautifully decorated and well-maintained. This is a great gathering place for a happy hour and socializing. One downside was the noise volume in the dining area. The conversations from the bar and other diners bounced off the walls, making it very difficult to hear the conversation at our table. We enjoyed a glass of the house Cabernet and three mixed cocktails, all of which were perfectly made. The Goat Cheese Flatbread appetizer was delicious and very flavorful. We enjoyed the Steak Sandwich with a side salad and three Avocado Salads, one salad with Shrimp, one salad with Ahi Tuna, and the third without a protein. The ingredients in the salads were very fresh. The citrus dressing was a bit overpowering. We all agreed we should've asked for the dressing on the side. In town for the Jazz Fest, we found this cute spot for some al fresco music. What a fantastic patio area! The backyard is fenced in and very cozy. There is a ton of seating options for large or small groups. The big rectangle bar services a ton of customers easily. We walked in through the side street directly into the patio area. My friend and I were very impressed with the look and feel. There were plants, wood and brick. It felt permanent, not just a few tables for summer. We didn't dine on this afternoon, but the menu looked great. It was diverse and offered a lot of options to satisfy any craving. There were guys and gals of all ages, families too. The food looked delicious, and everyone seem quite happy. We just had iced tea, as it was a hot day. Our bartender was incredible! He was fast yet personable, busy yet attentive. Welcome to St. Charles, Whiskey Bend! This place is named after the nickname given to the nearby intersection during the early 1900s. Read the first page of their menu. I really like how this place highlights the history of St. Charles and continues the Whiskey Bend theme of having whiskey themed drinks. The menu is also filled with little nods to the history of this great little town. When we first got there it was packed because everyone was excited to try this new pub. We walked down from main street and was a bit confused because the host stand is in the back of the place. So if you go. Go check the back to be seated. Even though it was packed, we were able to be seated immediately. The place looked great. Again with the history, you'll find photographs hung that show St Charles from the time when the corner was called Whiskey Bend. We liked how they decorate and it's a great place to take a date or to meet up with friends. We ordered the WB Burger and Korean Pork Belly Tacos. Both were delicious and we highly recommend them. With management having been involved with McCarthy's I expected better. With Bourbon and Whiskey in general being popular these days seemed like this would fill a well needed spot for a local bar that specializes in those types of alcohol. Looking at the drink menu they have lots of choices for average to mid priced stuff but no high end stuff. Not a big deal because not everyone wants to spend that much for a drink anyway. After giving us the whiskey list she rattled off a list of the ones that are not available. Having only been open about a week would think they'd be out that soon but not the end of the world either. The server suggest their house whiskey, we ask what distillery makes it she has no idea. We order anyway figuring it's probably cheaper (wasn't on the menu) and something different. Was very young, the palate and nose were straight ethanol and very overwhelming. Finish was like rubbing alcohol, so decided to let it breathe a while. Next sip a little better but not impressive at $13 per ounce. Ordered a blood oath batch 4 and it was decent. Menu says it's $25 an ounce was billed $28 for it. Ordered the poutine for an appetizer which should be called cheese fries. Their pimento cheese sauce is basically velveta and cream cheese with tiny diced pieces of andouille chicken sausage which is poured heavily on the fries til they are mushy. 1902 burger was decent, ordered the remoulade sauce on the side and burger cooked medium rare. Came out medium to medium well with sauce on it. 59 steak sandwich had good flavor but was also over cooked and didn't have but one thin piece of steak that didn't even cover all the bread. Almost everything on the menu has cheese, for the dairy sensitive this menu will be very limited to your options. Definitely could have done a simpler menu and been more successful, fish and chips would be nice. Service was definitely the worst part of the experience as she clearly had no desire to be there. So bad that it made you question if she was a family member being forced to work. 2 sandwiches, an appetizer, and a couple one ounce pours (one being the house bourbon) with tax was $98 while not horrible, for the money I have plenty of other places we will go next time. Don't see this being a place most will go to more than once or twice before moving on. read more

In order to hit a home run they need to put a chef in the kitchen.. the food seems like someone is cutting corners and it has a real foodservice supplier vibe: im talking veggies from frozen, salty premade sauces, odd ingredient pairings, nothing seasoned quite right. We met friends in the middle in St Charles and decided to go to Whiskey Bend. We had been there once before over the summer and enjoyed the back patio but I've never eaten there. We decided to eat there with our friends and we were super happy that we did. We assume the food would be pretty good, but we thought the food was great. My wife had to cut off the special and it was as good as anywhere we had had. Drinks were fantastic and the burgers were great as well. We shared the WB salad and would recommend that to anybody. We had a reservation and went with a group of six. Seated on time and the place has a nice local vibe but that's about all that went right. Came here on Friday for Happy Hour for the first time. There were 2 of us, sat outside, it was 3:11pm, probably 8 people at the bar, only 2 people sitting inside. We ordered 4 items off the Happy Hour menu. Bartenders are super attentive, food is excellent, HOWEVER, food service is horrible! After we waited 35 minutes, the Hodgepodge arrived cold - so much so the cheese was no longer melted, it has solidified. This is actually the 2nd time we were here -- the last time was for Brunch on a Sunday probably 8 months ago. There were 5 of us and we were literally the ONLY ONES there and it took 45 minutes to get our Brunch food. Clearly, this is an issue in the kitchen that hasn't been resolved. So unfortunately, we won't be coming back. Food is great (minus cold fries) but there are lots of great food places that also provide great food service. read more

Our waitress was okay; she didn't give us any recommendations, know what was on the charcuterie board (the menu says to ask), or know what was worth trying out. We opted for the charcuterie board, and then we were told it was out of stock. We ordered the French dip sandwich with no onion and were given a roast beef sandwich with onions on the plate. When we asked where the au jous was, we were told it was on the sandwich itself. Clearly the poor waitress was not versed in what a French dip was. My friend and I had a lovely first meal at Whiskey Bend for a quiet lunch over our spring break. The restaurant looks great inside, it was very clean and had a good vibe. I love that the tables in the bar area can hold menus so there is space without taking up room on your table. Our server was nice and had solid recommendations. We started with a whiskey-based cocktail- so many of them looked delicious- but we both got the blueberry lemonade one and it was very refreshing. We started with the bruschetta- definitely not traditional- more of a ricotta toast- but it was still very tasty. I then got the ham and fig sandwich with the potato leek soup. I really enjoyed the soup and thought the sandwich was decent. I don't think I'd get it again, but there was nothing wrong with it.
