Saturday lunch. Everything was wonderful. We had the pot roast with onion straws and garlic bread and the 3 pork sliders with fries. Fast service. I enjoyed watching all of the food come out of the kitchen. Everything was being served piping hot. Next time I will order one of the dishes that is piled high with whipped cream. read more

Very cool spot with fun decor, this is a great restaurant to get a delicious meal at a reasonable price. Service was fast and friendly throughout the whole meal. I ordered the chicken tenders with cornbread, french fries, and mac and cheese here with a sundae for dessert. I was originally looking for a light meal before an event the same evening but the entree easily fed two people with huge chicken tenders that were very crispy, tender, and perfectly marinated and seasoned. The fries were crisp and the right thickness, while the side of mac and cheese truly impressed with perfectly cooked cavatappi that was covered in a mix of cheeses. This was more delicious than many versions I've had at much more expensive restaurants. The corn bread with butter was also fluffy and flavorful, worth the additional cost to add to meal. Unfortunately I was too full to try a larger ice cream dessert, but the sundae was generously scooped and prepared well with plenty of flavor. read more

I have fond memories of going to the Colonial Cafe in Elgin with my mother during my childhood. That Colonial Cafe has since closed but I had a great experience at the St. Charles Colonial Cafe. My husband and I had lunch there. We tried to order small because we were going to Yelp Elite event later that evening but that turned out to be more difficult than we thought it would be. We shared the crispy chicken tenders which came with two sides (we chose the four cheese mac and cheese and corn bread). The tenders was crispy and juicy and huge. We got a great value for $19.98 And no meal is complete at this former dairy without ice cream. So we had a small scoop sundae with mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was a delicious end to our meal. Our server was nice and friendly. I highly recommend Colonial Cafe! read more

The food wasn't very good, the sausage patties looked like a toddler made them and the plate of food had no appeal to want to eat it. The service was poor the waitress was busy running around to too many places at once. And the food took forever to come out! Overall a very unpleasant experience. Will try another restaurant on town lots to choose from. Very disappointing as we used to go here at least once a month. read more

People really like this place according to Google. We noticed a sort of 'attitude' by the waitress. Maybe a bad day for her. Menu is large, seems like prices were a bit higher than what we had expected. Also seems like nothing too notable on the creative side. Yes, they do offer some gluten free options WITH an up charge. They offer a 'Coffee Bar', which is just regular items in a menu. BUT no price for their regular coffee. It was 3.99, according to the bill. I pancakes and eggs, pretty basic and both pretty good. My wife had a breakfast with 2 meats and 2 kinds of potatoes. She was happy as well. Would we rush back? No. There are lots of choices and as this was close by and we were in a rush, it came up first. We know there are lots of interesting choices nearby and some are rated higher. They filled the need at the time.... read more

Local St. Charles restaurant with a homey feel to it. Have visited multiple times and the experience is always great. Staff from the walking in all the way through leaving is genuinely friendly and welcoming. Our most recent waitress, Rosa, was great! Super attentive and patient while we made up our minds on what to eat lol This time we tried the kitchen sink ice cream and you need a whole table to even make a dent! Definitely recommend. read more

We place catering orders at least once every two weeks, so we're very familiar with your menu and service standards. Unfortunately, the person we spoke with today around4:20 PM showed a lack of knowledge regarding both customer service and the menu offerings. As a result, you guys lost a significant client today. This experience was disappointing, especially given our frequent business with your company. I strongly encourage reviewing who you hire read more

The food was avetage to bad. Tuna melt was pricey for non-albacore tuna and bland. Side salad was soggy. Veggie scramble was bland. Country potatoes were unseasoned. Hashbrowns were dry. Billy's Omelet was decent but lacked much goat cheese. Corned beef hash was good. Service was great but the food really disappointed. read more

I was in the area at a local car dealership getting my car serviced I decided to go for a lunch breakfast somewhere in the area. This leads me to my next location to review. Colonial Café in Saint Charles. I arrived at the restaurant at around noon it was obviously lunchtime. It was somewhat busy. The parking situation in the front is fairly tight most of the space that could be used for parking. They made a drive up area. When we walked into the restaurant, we waited at the front for about five minutes before anyone approached us to ask us if we needed any assistance. The hostess finally showed up she seemed somewhat aggravated. She obviously look like she'd rather be anywhere than there. We were sad near the back. I did not know actually how large this restaurant was. There was seating in all different directions. I looked over the menu and I saw many classic breakfast lunch dishes they were available, but I also saw some unique dishes. My nephew who I dined with decided to go with the chicken and waffles. I myself had a taste for biscuits and gravy and went with their biscuits and gravy. Sausage platter. I do not know why they called it a sausage platter because there was only one sausage patty that came with the meal that also was also accompanied by cubed potatoes and your choice of egg. When I reach just came to take our order, she was friendly. We asked for waters. Everything took some time to get to our table. The longest wait that was to come was for our breakfast. We waited about 15 to 20 minutes to receive our breakfast that might not seem that long in a dinner restaurant, but we were in a fast paced breakfast Lunch spot and needed to get moving. My nephew tried his chicken and waffles and said that they were very tasty. I also tried them and they were in fact very good. The waffles were light and fluffy. The chicken tasted just like a breaded chicken tender nothing special. My dish was also very good. The biscuits were good, but I can tell there's no way those were made in house. They tasted very similar to Pillsberry biscuits in a can. The sausage gravy was good. It had a good sausage flavor with slight pepper undertones. My eggs were also cooked perfectly. The cut potatoes were not that tasty. There was not a lot of flavor and some of the potatoes were very mushy and tasted somewhat old. My nephew also decided to try a cappuccino here which she said was good. The total for our brunch was just over $43. I do not know if I would come here again. It was good but it was nothing out of this world. The atmosphere was somewhat depressing interior did not look inviting the way times were somewhat long and it was not cheap for breakfast or lunch I give the colonial Café a 4.9 out of 10. Again, this is just my opinion go check this place off for yourself. read more

We had a patty melt and a fried chicken sandwich. Of course, I couldn't leave without a mini turtle sundae.....mmmmm My only complaint was our waiter didn't leave extra napkins when we had hand food! I had to keep trying to get his attention and he didn't refill my tea until we were about to leave! Otherwise, it is a wonderful place to lunch or dinner! read more

waited literally 5 minutes to get seated on a very slow day. 1 order was perfect - the other was wrong 3 times - i got chili w 1/2 sandwich CA turkey grill. first item listed under the pick 2. i got #1 a chicken salad #2 she added a piece of bread when i noticed it was not in sandwich form....then she left the chili and replaced the sandwich with #3 1/2 a turkey club sandwich after she told me they don't make a turkey grill - literally a detailed description on the menu - item which would have been fantastic, had i gotten it. husband was finished, my chili was gone so we boxed it up and left. she did take drinks off and we tipped her generously but come on....3 mistakes on the same item??? sign in the window did say they are looking for help so - - read more

Having eaten here before I was looking forward to my visit today. I was a little disappointed though. There was a funk (odor) lingering in the restaurant today that took away from the overall experience for me. The decor is actually a step above most family diners. The stone on the walls and dark wood panels make it feel more homey while the generous use of space in the dining rooms compensates for the darker tones so it doesn't feel cramped. Everything I experienced was well kept. The silverware and dishes were clean with no chips, cracks, etc. My booth was clean and in good condition as well. The staff were friendly and attentive. My waiter Andrew did a fine job. Everything was done in a timely fashion as well. The food was okay overall. The coffee was fair. The kielbasa skillet I had was really a wasted opportunity. It had a good presentation but needed some color, maybe a sprinkle of scallions or diced tomato on top. The kielbasa crumbles had a great flavor but a poor mouth feel. It felt like I was eating taco ground beef. Half or even quarter slices would have retained the flavor and felt better. The dices on the veggies were way too small. They retained almost no flavor at all and acted as an afterthought for the dish. It was a little greasy as well. The potatoes were spot on. The cast iron skillet was a nice touch as well. I really wanted to like this dish but the execution was lacking. Would I recommend this restaurant? Yes with a couple of reservations. They need to address the funky smell in the building and put a little more love into their food. I would return to give it another try. I do think their hearts are in the right place. They've just lost their way a bit. read more

Great breakfast and burgers. Banana split was also amazing. Highly recommend. A great variety of foods and desserts.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Colonial Café in Saint Charles Illinois. The decor was updated with a modern farmhouse vibe, well-maintained, and clean. The menu had a variety of options and clearly identified vegetarian and gluten friendly dishes. The menu also includes cocktails, which was unexpected. The sandwiches were delicious and in good portions, providing a second meal to take home. The price was very fair and comparative to local diners in the area. We encountered a slight problem when the pescatarian at our table, ordered a tuna salad avocado croissant sandwich, and instead was given chicken salad. Our server was very quick to make the change and bring out a new plate with amazing speed. We recommend colonial Café in Saint Charles, and will definitely return. read more

In town for business and happened upon this Cafe looking for a new place to eat. Stopped in, and like every place else, they could use more help, but I was seated quickly and had my server there quickly. When I asked about recommendations, he suggested the loaded chicken and waffles. I'm glad I went with his choice and got the small plate and loved it. I really enjoy the food I get here. The pick up service isn't always awesome, they sometimes forget sauces, or occasionally get your order wrong, which definitely is a hassle, but the food is great and very reasonably priced and a easy, yummy meal. Came in, sat down - looked at our menus - received water, and walked out after seeing the obnoxious prices on just about everything. Sorry, I can understand slightly inflated prices for the current times, but these were all jakked, and not even competitive. If you wanna spend this much, just go across the street to St. Charles Place high-end steakhouse. 15.99 for a cheeseburger and fries? That's before a soda, tax, and tip. You can get one of the best burgers and fries at Outback for 11.29, and they aren't exactly cheapy-cheap either. 14.99 for an omelette? The only reason this place may still be doing halfway good is because of its location, situated next to various hotels, where convenience is probably what drives people to eat here and the fact there aren't many other family-type restaurants in the area. Will not be back. Not being competitive any longer is what mostly drove other places in our area like Friday's, Chili's, and On the Border (ie. family restaurant types) out of business and why fast food places like Portillo's have lines out the wazoo. read more
