We had a great experience at Syrup in St Charles. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the food truly delivered. The omelets were fluffy, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The pancakes were also outstanding--fluffy, delicious, and easily some of the best we've had. We especially loved the country-style potatoes, with their thick-cut style and perfectly cooked texture. We drove 30 minutes to get here on a Saturday when neither one of us are working, solely based on Yelp reviews. Our "motto" is try any place once. So I arrived in a wheelchair due to my recently broken pelvis. Thank goodness my husband Ed is giant, tall and strong and can easily carry me around when needed (in this case to and from the car). Inside, the Host was very accommodating for a table. She moved a chair somewhere else so there was room for Ed to park me and my wheelchair. We were able to get disabled parking (which I temporarily have), and there was a ramp at the entrance but no button to press to automatically open the double doors. . Onto the stuff Yelp readers care about. My husband loved the coffee and was offered a coffee for the road when we left. Pretty much I hate "American Breakfast" at 99% of places because the only vegan offering is potatoes. Sometimes not even that if the potatoes are cooked in butter, not oil. They were vegan by default here, cooked in oil My husband got his very favorite, Eggs Benedict. Whether he likes the Hollondaise or not pretty much determines if we shall return to a breakfast diner. He said there was nothing bad about the Eggs Benedict, but he would not return for them. There was nothing much for vegans either, so I would not return. We both (an omnivore and a vegan) both greatly disliked the breakfast potatoes. However, thservice was fantastic, especially as a first-time person in a wheelchair. Celeste, our server, could not have been more kind. Sandy, the Manager, stopped by every table to make sure things were going well. Honestly, that earned them the 4 stars. If I had rated them on the food alone, perhaps a 2 star. So for us, we will not be back. But I would suggest that others do not try this place out. read more

A waitress repeatedly backed herself into me after sitting the loudest table directly behind us, when there was plenty of other open tables. I had a few minutes to spare before teaching my class in St. Charles, and instead of grabbing something quick at Culver's down the street, I noticed a cute little spot called Eat at Syrup. What really drew me in was that they offered turkey bacon on the menu. Any place willing to provide a pork alternative is worth my time. The exterior is modern and very clean, especially for being in a strip mall. The interior matches that vibe--lots of clean whites, black lettering, and even a small area that's clearly meant for photos if that's your thing. The staff I interacted with were kind and helpful. I started with a decaf coffee with flavored cream and a shot of caramel. For my meal, I ordered the basic two eggs with potatoes, turkey bacon, and a slice of cinnamon French toast. The flavors overall were fine--nothing too bold, but enjoyable. I especially liked the French toast, though it was a little firmer than I expected; a softer texture would've made it even better. The potatoes were the only real letdown. They had more of an "air fryer" feel--light and a bit dry--when I prefer them more sautéed or lightly fried with some crispiness. They weren't bad, just not what I was hoping for. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. I enjoyed my meal, and I'd recommend it if you're in the St. Charles area. One of my favorite breakfast places in the area! I love the clean, pleasant decor and the fact that I've never had to wait for a table. Their regular chicken and waffles with chives was delicious. The chicken was cooked perfectly (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside). Our server, Amber, was the best server we've had. She was excellent at multitasking (she was helping all the tables in the area we were seated), friendly, and quick. Very popular and busy place, we came at 10:30am on a Sunday and there was already a small wait, when we left there were several groups waiting. Large selection or brunch items. Portion sizes are decent, I got the Santa Fe omelette and only managed to finish half my food (didn't even touch my pancakes which I upgraded from an English muffin). The legendary breakfast - eggs over easy (yolk did not break in transit I was afraid it might) with seasoned potatoes and breakfast sausage all so good. Carnivore skillet - all really good and enough for leftovers Kids - chicken tenders and fries. The tenders tasted freshly made and not reheated, fries fresh as well. My partner and I , had the most disgusting butcher skillet , with 15 minutes, before closing , We were steated. chunks of ham the potatoes peppers and onions that I could see had been sitting in the grill all day greasy and burnt pieces of ham sausage, everything tastes burnt and greasy with 3 eggs sitting on top. My husband had off from work so we decided to take the 30 minute trek to one of our favorite breakfast places. We were seated immediately. Five minutes easily passed, maybe 10, as I was busy trying to entertain our hangry toddler...no waitress in sight. We asked the bus boy to send over our waitress. Order everything - black coffees, billion dollar bacon as an appetizer (even requesting that this be brought ASAP to feed said hangry toddler), and our meals. We are waiting and waiting...had to flag down the waiter again to ask where our coffees were. He set them down and splashed the coffee over the edge, spilling it on the table. No apology and he didn't even wipe it up. About 1 minute later, all the food arrives together. So much for that ASAP request. We had to request the butter and syrup be brought to the table. After flagging down Laura, the manager, she said she'd take care of it. By "taking care of it," she meant she'd take $3.88 off from our check. We didn't even get the value of one of the coffees for free. So much for trekking to our favorite breakfast place again any time soon. read more

What a great place for to eat! We had my mom's 72nd birthday brunch here and they accommodated me and 17 of my family members. We waited a little bit to get our table but for 18 people, we expected longer wait. The food is plentiful and done well. We were all thoroughly impressed by how fast and tasty everything was and our server was excellent. It's not easy serving 18 people, but she was so nice. She even made my side pancakes with sprinkles and whipped cream so my little one could eat it as her meal. The food is superb. We basically ordered more than half of the menu and we were not disappointed. The chicken fried chicken was cooked perfectly. It was not dry and the gravy was the right amount of salty. Came out to Syrup for a Sunday brunch around 9:15am. When checking in, the host let us know there would be a 10-15 minute wait and took our name/phone number to notify us when our table was ready. We only waited about 5 minutes before we were able to be seated! Inside, Syrup follows the trendy magnolia style that a lot of "boujee brunch" spots have. We loved the simple black and white aesthetics with a branding feature wall and cool lighting accents. The menu had a wide variety of offerings between breakfast, lunch, coffee, and cocktails. On top of their menu, they do also have seasonal offerings. To start, I got the seasonal Iced Lavender Latte. I was very impressed with the size and flavor of the latte! Next, we ordered the Biscuits and Gravy with Eggs as well as the Breakfast Sliders. The breakfast sliders had (3) mini brioche buns with bacon jam, scrambled eggs, and a sausage patty. As a side, my partner substituted the seasoned potatoes with their cheesy grits (no upcharge). I got the Biscuits and Gravy which was served in a skillet dish for presentation purposes only. The eggs and potatoes came out on a separate dish so one could add them in or eat on their own. Overall, the food was basic; as a whole, it was lacking salt, pepper, and herbs. My biscuits were warm and not hot which probably stemmed from the skillet dish not being warm. My partner enjoyed his meal but I can't say I left feeling satisfied. The first taste was terrible; it was flavorless and so disappointing that I didn't bother finishing it and gave it away. The eggs and waffles were delicious. I'm delighted it was nicely executed. I'm not sure why it's labeled legendary when it was average. The meal was not particularly filling, so I added a side of cinnamon roll French toast. It has a beautiful crust and fluffy crumb. I had the nova Benedict and it had a bit too much hollandaise for my liking but it had a good flavor. The absolute best breakfast/brunch/lunch cafe that I have ever found. I brought my father and mother in law here for breakfast on a fluke. I was immediately impressed with the way we were greeted. The manager greeted us with a huge smile and quickly placed us on the waiting list. It was an early Thursday Morning and there was already a short wait to be seated. That also let me know right away that the food was really good. Our wait time was shorted than estimated. As we walked through the restaurant I noticed that there were many beautifully plated meals. The smell of vanilla flavored waffles and bacon filled the air. My stomach growled on cue. Once seated our server Petra also greeted us with a very warm smile and offered us coffee. The coffee was delicious and fresh. My father ordered a lemon aide it was made from scratch and we could see the fresh fruit and mint leaves. However, the best was yet to come. The food. The food is the best breakfast food that I have ever had, period. Better than Richard Walkers, Blueberry Hill, or any other restaurant I can name. Both of the other institutions are great, in their own right, but Syrup is even better. IJS. Syrup was so good that I brought my husband back to try it the next day and I was even more impressed the second time. Petra was our server again and I tried a different item of the menu. My favorite spots to grab breakfast with my dad. Very cozy environment inside. I would recommend keeping a sweater in your car if it's busy there's a couple spots where the AC really blasts down, though the rest of the restaurant is fine. The food is always good quality. The menu was so big and everything seemed appetizing. Syrup had so many choices for breakfast and lunch, it was hard to make a decision. I settled on a 5-egg omelette, which is beyond huge (You will take half of it home), plus potatoes (upgraded to bacon, crema, Cheese, and chives-yum), plus a side of pancakes. My bf had the legendary breakfast with a side of French toast. The French toast was truly not to be missed. It was large and soft and crisped. We got the fresh squeeze orange juice (couldn't even snag a photo prior to drinking it) and it was SO FRESH! Also grabbed the bite chocolate frappe and it was way better than any Starbucks! Very friendly service, it is very nice in there though. Upscale looks but friendly. The drink menu is quite large, I really loved that. The bloody mary was delicious, all the drinks were. But the bloody mary has a lot going on, the pickles omg they must have been brined in jalapeno juice because they were spicy but good spicy. Chicken & Waffles to die for, the breading has such great flavor. My crepes were perfect, not chewy at all. The bacon though, it was ok, I was not a fan of the smoky sugary flavor.
