I used the excuse of a $5 off coupon to come to the Foxfire for lunch. We have not been there for a while so I thought it is time to come back for lunch. I was not disappointed. My wife ordered the Angus burger and cole slaw. She loved the cole slaw and she kept saying that you know a Hamburger is good when you don't need catsup. She then reaffirmed that this hamburger doesn't need catsup because that is how good it is. I ordered the minestrone soup and a warm turkey sandwich with cheese and an incredible sauce. Both dishes were incredible. We ordered the creme brule to go and thoroughly enjoyed it this evening for dessert. The jazz music in the background was smooth and the lighting was just right. The owner seated us and we were promptly waited on by the bus boy (waiter in training) and the waiter. We hardly had any wait time. The restaurant was somewhat empty due in part to the lack of parking through no fault of their own. The city of Geneva could really use a parking garage to assist the businesses with parking as well as the events they have on that side of town. read more

My husband and I dined here only a few weeks ago after hearing his great the food was. And so we stopped in for lunch. The good was average at best and nothing to write home about. Prices are off the chart for what they serve. Apparently it was a huge ordeal to remove skin off of Walleye Pike. We spent a small fortune on an average lunch and it wasn't anything memorable or remarkable. You can bet we will never dine here again. How disappointing! So here's my advice for what it's worth. First timer: a friend suggested Foxfire for a birthday dinner. Called to make reservations, the only available slot was at 8:45; understandable - I made it the same day. Again First-timer. Called back to see if we could push our time. Spoke to Danielle and she asked we call back around 7. I didn't call back..... Danielle WENT OUT of her way to call us and let us know she could have our table ready 30 minutes early. Very considerate. Our server was awesome. He made us feel comfortable asking him about this dish and that; no rush, so much patience AND he regarded the kids. Made sure we were happy with our selections; was not hovering over us; he attended to all his tables. Awesome character. The food: It was AMAZINGLY delicious. Driving home I can still taste the over salted, greasy Alfredo that cost $23. I don't mind spending money on good food. In fact, I prefer it. I would've been better off saving and going to Olive Garden... and I seriously would then just stay home. My daughter wanted my French onion soup When I came out. I gave her mine and ordered another. My soup came out and the cheese on top wasn't toasted and wasn't as good as the first soup. Edible? Yes. Worth the money? No. Would I come back? No. The Brussels sprouts were so bad. How does anyone get this one wrong?! They were tangy but not savory... like sour and the temperature and cook were completely off. All the food came at once so we ended up with a wedge salad that never got eaten. The server didn't offer to comp it or notice. My husband and son had the ny strip and ribeye. my husband says the ny strip was excellent. My son says the ribeye flavor was solid but nothing stood out to make him get it again. The pricepoint could have gotten something better. Fries were over done, stiff, and bland. The shareable appetizer truffle fries were $17 and we expected a large shareable portion. The size was the same as my sons side order. I asked for a Diet Coke to go and was told no due to no cups. I was like, how about a kids cup? The server did accommodate the request but I was still left questioning the quality of the service. Sometimes you get service where the staff wants you to have an excellent experience and they show they care. I wasn't at all feeling valued today... at least not for the pricepoint. Never got the chance to try the place, and probably will not in the future. My wife's birthday falls on Memorial Day this year. Went to make a reservation over a week in advance with Foxfire. They took my reservation for 2 and sent confirmation. On Tuesday before the holiday called and sent text that they are cancelling the reservation because they are closed that day. Would I be interested in rescheduling? No other explanations given. I texted back asking why it took 3 days after accepting my reservation to notify me that they weren't even going to be open and never received a response. Totally inexcusable. read more

I enjoy going to Fox fire every time. We had the trench onion soup which was delicious. The rolls came out so hot we had to wait to eat them. The drinks were good. We had the bang bang chicken as an appetizer and it was very good. The Louisiana shrimp was very good and we had the Pittsburg ribeye. It would have been a 5 but the ribeye was a little bit fatty and the garlic mashed potatoes were cold. But they were both very tasty. Overall a good experience. We've dined here many times before and had great meals but not so tonight. When a restaurant can't get their signature burger right after two tries, you've gotta wonder what's going on. Drinks were in small glasses filled with ice with big prices. Even after sending our food back, no manager stopped by to talk with us, apologize or show any care. We are stunned at the "rushed we don't care food" we were served tonight. Couple the lackluster food with the restaurant's new reservation policy to charge people who cancel or don't have their entire table of guests make it, it's doubtful we'll be back. read more

I sincerely enjoyed eating at Foxfire. Initially, I was meeting a friend, but at the last minute they couldn't make it. Despite them being unable to come, I decided to enjoy a meal here anyway. I arrived at 5PM and the restaurant was fairly quiet. The restaurant is longer than wide so when you first walk in you have the bar to the left and table seating to the right. In the middle of the restaurant is a server prep station, and seating continues in the back. I sat in the back half of the restaurant at a table. The ambiance was very nice with soft lighting. Everything on the menu looked incredible and I couldn't decide. I ordered the server's recommendation of the Porterhouse Steak with Mashed Potatoes and a Side Salad. Everything was absolutely delicious! The dinner menu does have a fairly wide price range. My meal was pricey but the value was superb and absolutely worth the cost. Aside from the poor service likely the result of current staffing challenges, the food was very good. Priced just below a high end steakhouse like Morton's or Gibson's, the waitstaff has a LONG way to go to merit the restaurant's pricing. Our server was forgetful and MIA most of the evening. Dirty and empty dishes stacked up at the table, I had to go to the bar to get my drink completed as ordered, bread came an hour into our meal just before the entree, and the worst part was chasing down the server on foot to get our check after a long wait post-dessert. He was in taking a post-evening sit down break and his coworkers started the process. Oh, Andy a "thank you" might have been nice when presenting our check. Not a word. We may give this another try, yet with lowered expectations. I cut my teeth in the white tablecloth restaurant trade abd have made food service my career. Excellent from beginning to end. We stopped in at 2pm on a Saturday and only two other couples were eating. Relaxed ambiance - you could be in shorts or dressed for a wedding and feel comfortable here. I got the adult grilled cheese sandwich- couple of types of cheeses, bacon and tomato on perfectly toasted bread. Big night out to meet up with friends and this is where it all took place. I had requested a "nice" table and despite its nearness to the fireplace, which provided no warmth to us, it also was near the back door which opened frequently and blasted us with cold air. However, the rolls were some of the best I have ever had, and everyone proclaimed their entrée to be absolutely delicious. That included salmon, prime rib, filet, and tilapia. Dessert was tasty, too: white chocolate raspberry cheesecake. It was on the loud side and very difficult to hear the person across the table from you. They have a party room and that was in use and even with the doors closed we did hear "Happy Birthday" LOUD AND CLEAR. The bar is in the front and on the left as you enter and the hostess stand is in the middle of the restaurant, just a little heads up. The kitchen is next to the bar which means the tables are along one side of the wall. That continues to the back, but there are a few tables on the other wall in the back and a couple of tables along the passageway to the back door. Every time I eat at Fox Fire I have been served some of the best food around. From the dinner rolls upon arrival to the filet mignon to the ahi tuna (and I don't usually enjoy seafood of any kind) to the Fox Fire Ale on tap (some of the most refreshing local brew I've had) to the star of the show -- the Angus Burger -- Fox Fire's entrees never disappoint. The dessert menu is rather small and I have been underwhelmed more than wowed; but, for your own sake, if you have ever thought you remotely enjoyed a cheeseburger, then you owe it to yourself to grab an Angus Burger. If you're on a budget, book a reservation on Monday night when the $10 burger goes to $5. There is ZERO dip in quality, I assure you. You can thank me later. P.S. Their buss staff is one of the most efficient and friendly that I have ever witnessed. The owner/proprietor always makes a point of being on the floor and engages us before we pay or exit each and every time we dine here. What can I say, foxfire is one of those hidden gems that never ceases to amaze. As a business owner or can be challenging to carve out time for date night and thankfully tonight was the night. The service had consistently been impeccable and tonight and the food is amazing. Well we were blessed to discover that tonight was restaurant week so we enjoyed amazing white glove service by Kelly along with a 5 course meal along with along with the wine pairings all the way through. Foxfire is my favorite place to come with my parents when I'm visiting from school! I'm vegan and having multiple options on the menu (not just sides!) is so exciting for me. My favorite restaurant since I moved here 10+ years ago. Last time I went there I was craving for a porterhouse but couldn't drink nor eat a lot due to medical reasons. So I ordered a Porterhouse and a light appetizer to splIt with my companion. I felt no judgement from my waiter, something that happened quite often. The chef was kind enough to split the porterhouse for the 2 of us. Very pleasant dining experience. I wanted to host a milestone anniversary this summer, unfortunately half of my guests refused to attend this venue due to personal (political?) reasons. I'm still very much politically confused/apathetic, but I will definitely return when I find someone willing to take 2/3 of my porterhouse and drink the Merlot that compliments the steak so darn well! We took the family here to celebrate a birthday last week, and we were not disappointed! First off, they are super accommodating to larger parties - our party of 6 sat at a very spacious, round table in the back of the restaurant. The table overlooked the restaurant's outdoor patio and was such a pretty view! For a Friday at 6pm, the inside wasn't too busy but outside was hoppin' with lots of people and a band! It was definitely an older crowd compared to what we are used to on 3rd street, but it was perfect because we had our parents and grandpa joining. I ordered the Filet Oscar and ate the ENTIRE thing! Haha it was SO good!! Meat was cooked perfectly and crab cake was very flavorful. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food as well! As a younger couple, Foxfire was a little too expensive for our liking...but we felt it was a great place to bring our family! Glad we tried it out! read more

Went early (5:00 pm) and was seated promptly with my OpenTable reservation. The restaurant is in a nice space; airy with an interesting wood arched ceiling and an intimate feel. It is a great choice for a quiet dinner or meeting and does not feel too crowded, even when the tables filled. It's no surprise it has lots of "date night" reviews :) Pros: Quiet, softly lit setting, and although we did not go too deep into the menu, the food was flavorful and nicely prepared. Booths and tables available here. Reasonable pricing. Cons: Watch where you sit; especially in the winter; sitting near the north elevation back door (Firefox has two entrances) eliminated the need for ice in our drinks everytime someone opened the door. Every time I'm in Elgin, I drive out to Fox Fire because I love the live music and how full of life this place is. Their food is fine, but what really does it for me is the bartending staff & drinks. I LOVED their cocktail menu, they all sounded interesting, but still familiar. Also Katie, the bartender, was so nice and took the time to make sure I was always taken care of and answered any & all of my questions on the menu. This restaurant perfectly embodies the spirit of Geneva - pretending we have as much money as St Charles. My NY Strip was excellent and Wifey Poo's fillet was very good as well. Both steaks were a hair over cooked but not bad, very tender, and clearly a good cut but they don't quite hold up to the quality I expect when I go to one of the heavy hitters of steak houses in the area. The prime rib egg rolls were a huge disappointment. Even Wifey's English palate deemed them bland and greasy. My tiny Caesar salad followed suit with bland dressing and flavorless shredded Parmesan. The steaks were good, but underwhelming given what I expect from a good steakhouse. Service was very friendly but slow (not our waitress's fault)... so far it's barely a 3 star experience.... but, our waitress suggested mixing the pork belly and Mac and cheese sides and it absolutely made the meal. Perfect pasta, incredibly cheesy, and the candied pork belly was a huge hit. We did the pumpkin cheesecake for dessert and it was exceptional as well- perfect flavor and texture without being overly sweet. The big surprise was that the coffee was actually great. So, I'd never go again for a steak - if I'm spending that kind of money I expect better. But, I'd go again for the Mac and cheese and dessert for sure. read more

Nothing has changed since my last visit. The burgers and soups are still good. The steaks are average. My main purpose in this update is to share an act of kindness which was imposed upon my Mother and I on our last visit. My Mother has Parkinson's and is obviously challenged in her mobility. At the end of our meal our server informed us our check was taken care of. I did not feel like we were on object of pity and I can not tell you how much this simple act meant to us. I know there are nice people in this world, but I can not describe to you how nice it is to have this concept enforced in such a meaningful way. My hope is that by sharing this story you will be inspired someday to pay it forward in some small way. read more

Party of 4. We were seated and waited 30 minutes to get our drink order in. The drinks were incredibly expensive. More so than any restaurant I have been in. We placed our orders and waited another 30 minutes for our food. two of us ordered prime rib medium rare. It looked like someone threw them on a grill top. They were brown, thin and lifeless. Neither guest finished them and they were both dissapointed. One of us ordered a steak, Au Poive style and asked to make sure that the steak was peppercorn encrusted not just peppercorn gravy however the steak came with no peppercorns on it. One person orderd the Wallye Picatta and it was dry over cooked and almost no sauce. They only ate half. All in all not a great expienece for an supremely expensive dinner. read more

A very expensive waste of time and money. Other than the cocktails (overpriced for Geneva IL) the rest of the meal was a total disappointment. The calamari obviously came out a box and was thin, chewy and tasteless. The "wedge" salad had fake bacon bits; ONE cherry tomato; two old, dry wrinkled red onion rings cut from the outer layer of the onion and a thin, watery dressing. The walleye piccata had NO SAUCE - just an overcooked fillet atop a pile of mashed potatoes. I later found what purported to be the piccata sauce underneath the potatoes so to get the flavor, you had to eat the potatoes, not fish. Awful. read more

Very good dine-in experience. We started off with drinks and calamari. Margarita was very good, nice flavor with plenty of kick. Wife had a blueberry martini, which she said was excellent. Calamari was perfect, tender and flavorful. We had the ribs, which were awesome, but don't expect to finish them unless you have a hollow leg! Review of Foxfire: Was real excited to go try this place based on reviews, i can tell you this was one of the worst experiences i have had in a while.. Lets start off by saying this is a LOUD PLACE it reminded me of a glorifed texas roadhouse and OMG for 1/3 the price texas road house beats this place. I was told as when i called there was going to be a pianist, i was expecting this place to be a nice sit down dinner casual , but a sit relazing dinner.. WOW was i wrong we and my husband sat down and noticed no pianist , but some guy singing with his guitar, reminded us of soulard in stlouis, he was singing no named songs that were absolutely horrible just plain drabb folk music, my husband djed for 10 years and could of came in this place and had a much better ambience. the waitress was horrible made us wait a long time, some of the waitresses were full of tattoos, it was not classy at all. we ordered the prime rib 34.00 not worth it very fatty, husband had the chicken 24.95 way over priced came with grapes on the menu my husband said where are the grapes she pointed to the one grape, we both just laughed. the taste of the food was good that i will give but this place has no business charging over 120 bucks for two meals , the we had 2 drinks and the bang bang chicken appatizer which was good. stay at home at cook yourself theres nothing here they did i couldn't do myself, the prime rib was al carte to boot, this is not the capital grille my goodness i had the potatoes((garlic and the beans)).. they kept us there almost 2 hours , we couldnt wait to get the check, dropped a small tip as the service was horrible and out the door we went.. this was such a disapointment dont go into the bathrooms dirty and not kept up either. such a shame.... well never come back here..good food waaaaaay overpriced, and horrible atmosphere unless u like texas roadhouse at least they have better music.. read more
