so happy I tried this place! the last place I ordered from was just alright, but glad I didn't give up and tried this gem! their Tianjin baozi & boiled pork/shrimp/leek dumplings were all I got for dinner, but they were so yummy and flavorful, just like back home in Tianjin! even the black vinegar and hot chili oil were packed cleanly and with care. everything was handmade and from people who actually know what they're doing. *chefs kiss* the baos alone weighed prob 5 lbs! hefty! 4 giant buns. dumplings were fresh and just made perfectly, not overcooked or undercooked. Takeout is the new dine out. We found this spot via Chowbus and decided to give it a go. While I was pretty annoyed I had to wait around a half hour for my food once I had showed up (likely due to Chowbus flooding them with orders), I'll say the food was pretty good. We did some of their handmade pork shrimp & chive dumplings, fried pork tenderloin in batter, smoked pork pancake, four season clear noodle, and fried buns w/ condensed milk. From a pickup/takeout perspective, the food travels well. While I was annoyed at the wait once I showed up, probably some of the best handmade dumplings you can get. Really nothing to complain about in terms of food. Never tried fried buns before, but it was pretty much like a more delicate donut where you could pour on as much or as little condensed milk as you like. The dumplings were as good as others have said. I care the most about the taste and texture of the dumpling wraps, apropos to Italian pasta, and these were chewy and flavorful. Five stars! The pork, shrimp and chive fillings were good, too. I do think there are better wraps out there (like QXY in Chinatown) but for the price these are amazing. West lake beef soup was tasty with chunks of eggs and beef. Yum. Taiwanese spinach is always a favorite. The shrimp lo mein was pretty good, too! Not sure if we would dine in given how quiet the place was. The lady was really helpful, though. Will definitely takeout again. read more

I went to Fourseason dumpling to get dumplings, and they didn't disappoint! I had the lamb and dill and the three ingredient special one. The lamp was excellent almost like a soup dumpling. I also had the Napa and tofu salad that was mixed in a chili, sweet and sour dressing. The salad was good and refreshing. I will come back and try other flavors of dumplings. read more

I have been wanting to stop In for some time at this Bridgeport spot. It has a really nice bright happy sign out front, but when you step inside it's dim and just not welcoming. I was the only non Asian person dining, I felt as though I was in a Chinatown joint and had entered through the alley door. Ordered the hot & sour soup....ummm, absolutely delicious but I got a gallon of it. Trust me the leftovers are long gone but I was not expecting so much. I ordered the steamed pork, shrimp and chive dumplings. I was hoping that they might be steamed and then finished off in a hot pan just to add a nice sear. Nope. Not soggy at all but was missing the slight crunch and the flavor was lacking. I'll try the place next door instead of coming back. read more

One of the best Chinese food restaurants out here! I'm Chinese American and can say their food is very authentic! The dishes are mostly northern style, quality ingredients, I do wish they could put more shrimp in their shrimp chow mein. Also I ordered their clear noodle salad and didn't know they included wasabi type mustard in one of the seasonings they provided. So be careful and taste everything before you put it in and mix with everything. I've only ordered takeout here, so all my experience is from a takeout perspective. Great place! read more

Came to this little hole in the wall and let me start by saying the eggplant dish is superb! So many marvelous flavors, very pleasing to the sense of taste. The dumplings are a must! They give you the option to either have them steamed or pan fried but of course, I had to have mine steamed. And the hot oil is full of nutty flavors! Very pleasant. I did have a take out order because I was on my lunch so I didn't get to really experience the full personal experience but, my rice was left behind and when I brought it to the attention of the woman packaging the take home condiments she immediately stopped what she was doing, when to the back and grabbed it and apologized so that was just wonderful attentiveness already. This little gem is on the outskirts of Chinatown in Chicago so it's very authentic looking in the inside. Very warm home vibe. Four Seasons Dumplings replaced the excellent Homestyle Taste and while it doesn't hit the same heights, the kitchen still churns out excellent Dongbei (northeast) cuisine. Some of our favorites include the dried tofu strips with napa cabbage, which is a great starter that tastes fresh with a moderate amount of spice. The dumplings are plentiful and very good (though not at QXY's level). And the cumin lamb with bone is consistently good, with slightly fatty meat cooked until tender with a healthy dose of cumin and red pepper. So good! Stopped in for a quick meal and, super honestly, wasn't expecting much. There was no one there and a few other restaurants close to this one have been so underwhelming. Don't get me wrong though, everything else was very good too! It was my first time eating bao, and it did not disappoint. I was stuffed after eating a single one. It's pretty affordable too. Everything we got totaled to ~$45. Between the two of us, though, we were only able to put a small dent in the amount of food we got. It all would've been enough for 3 or 4 people. We got take out from Four Seasons Dumpling last week. We had the pork dumpling, smoked pork pancake, chicken lo mein, and kim chee fried rice with pork. Overall, the meal was pretty good and better than the neighborhood Chinese food spot we had in West Town. The dumplings were my boyfriends favorite. Stuffed with a good amount of meat, good flavor and cooked nicely (we got them pan fried). The pancake had good flavor, seemed to have some sort of hoisin sauce inside, which I liked. I also liked the green onion inside. It seemed fresh. The lo mein was solid. I love lo mein, but there was very little chicken (close to none at all, just enough to know that we didn't get vegetable lo mein by mistake). Our least favorite dish was the fried rice. The kimchi seemed old, but maybe its the type of kimchi they used. The rice consistency and texture wasn't great, which will make me steer clear of the rice dishes in general next time. Overall, I think Four Seasons Dumpling is a good spot if you want something convenient and know what to order. I think we will order delivery from other places before coming back, but it is convenient for carry out for us and I would still consider coming back! Next time, I'll order the vegetable lo mein, dumplings, and probably the pancake. I'd also like to try to bao. read more

Wow, wow, wow. We came in not quite sure what to expect. This is an unassuming restaurant tucked among a number of other wonderful restaurants, and Four Seasons Dumpling certainly has earned its place. We ordered honestly too much for two of us, but it was SO GOOD and so reasonably priced that the leftovers were worth it. We ordered an eggplant dish that was a last minute addition to just see what it was, and this was by far my favorite thing I have had for a long time. The texture on the dish was amazing and unique - the perfect mix of crisp and soft. The pork baos were incredible; we absolutely demolished them. We also ordered some dumplings and scallion pancakes - these were extraordinarily tasty as well, but didn't quite measure up to the eggplant and the baos. However, at any other restaurant, these would have been stellar and something I would have absolutely raved about. We cannot wait to go back, and are so excited to have Four Seasons Dumpling in our neighborhood! read more

We had a birthday celebration here recently, although I'd called days prior to ensure we'd have a table on the day of, no one knew of my reservation. However, the boss quickly pulled some tables together and we got seated. We ordered individual plates and shared some. I can't remember what everyone had as the dinner progressed and the spirits poured freely. BYOB. Lots of great food and the servers were extremely accommodating. I think our party closed the place that night. No frills, great preparation and presentation. Reminds me of the late night places I'd used to go to in Chinatown back in the 90's. read more

Hands down the best dumplings I've had in Chicago. The drive out to Bridgeport is a bit far from the center of Chicago, but it was so worth it and I will definitely be coming back. The restaurant has the typical aesthetic of an authentic Chinese restaurant--if you see pictures of the dishes as decor, you know it's about to be good. You don't come here for the ambiance, you come for the amazing food. As mentioned, the dumplings were insanely good. They were so juicy that they almost resemble xiao long bao ( (be careful biting into them). The chicken, potato, and pepper with wide noodles was also a standout dish. It has Sichuan peppercorns so you get that numbing feeling in your mouth that I love. I'm not quite sure if they are, but the noodles tasted and had the mouth feel of homemade noodles. The portions are huge so don't over order. We also got the crab rangoons, but I would skip this next time and probably anything that wasn't authentically Chinese. The crab rangoon filling wasn't very flavorful--it was mostly just cream cheese. Highly, highly recommend if you are looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant! read more

My girlfriend and I were excited to finally try Four Seasons Dumpling a few weeks ago, and it did not disappoint. We came on a Friday night and it a few tables were open so there was no wait. The menu was extensive and we decided on the pork Baos, shrimp, egg & chive dumplings, scallion pancakes, and an eggplant dish with chili sauce. We were blown away by everything. Our personal favorite was the eggplant dish. We took leftovers home and even the next day the the food was great. It's safe to say Four Season Dumpling was one of my favorite meals. read more

Ordered off chowbus and this place was very yummy! The flavors were definitely there for all dishes although I wished they did have more variety in the veggie dishes they had. The grilled garden vegetable bento had not much variety and lots of potato. The bean curd Napa cabbage cold app was a fan favorite and the steamed vegetable dumplings were great. The braised beef noodles were not the best with the noodles coming out soggy, but the marinated eggs were delicious. The tomato egg rice bento was a classic and portion sizes were decent! read more

Great experience! Went on a Tuesday night with a party of five since it was less crowded than on a weekend. Everything was tasty (pork and shrimp steamed dumplings, crab rangoon, chicken fried rice, whole fish in spicy/sweet sauce, Northern eggplant) but the clear standouts were the hot and sour soup, the lamb dill pan-fried dumplings, and the preserved egg with tofu appetizer. Not only were the portion sizes ample, each dish had a distinctive mix of flavors, and the soup and tofu were particularly surprising. I've had lots of bland soups and tofu dishes at various Asian restaurants, and these were dare I say it memorable. Plus the soup ($10) is a bowl large enough to share among 6-8 people. The small staff was attentive and there wasn't a long wait for our order. I'd definitely return to try other dishes, and likely get another order of the soup for sure. read more

Delicious Chinese food at an unprepossessing Halsted storefront in Bridgeport. The only problem (and is it really a problem?) is that they have *both* excellent dumplings, *and* excellent non-dumpling Chinese food, such as the kung pao chicken (which is not at all the gloppy food court product, despite the name) and even better, the garlic eggplant, which has a light and crunchy breading that contrasts perfectly with the creamy interior. But the dumplings were excellent too, both boiled and pan-fried. The dilemma is that I would happily have eaten more dumplings, and more eggplant, but . . . I can't eat that much! read more

The vibe is "come here, eat handmade homemade food that comes from the heart, and stay here for as long as your want" It feels like you're at a loving mom's house. This is also the place where you go when you really don't want to be bothered by big crowds, but you want high quality food. I ordered their food through chowbus which ended up taking 3 hours to deliver so it's hard to judge the actual taste of the food but there are still couple things I point out. The smoked chicken is very delicious. The breast area is a little dry but over all flavor is great. I ordered the spicy version; it got a subtle spiciness and tinglingness to it, from the chilli pepper and szechuan peppercorn. Not too strong so it's friendly to people who doesn't normally eat spicy food. Nice rich smoked flavor. Good level of salt as well. Now moving on to their bao and pancakes. Im actually really disappointed. But again it's 3 hours old when I received it because chowbus doesn't care about customer safety nor restaurant reputation, it's hard to judge what the food will taste like when hot. But, the shredded (northern style) pancake tastes like raw flour, it has that paper taste to it, which sometimes you get from frozen boxed mac and cheese. It's not very pleasant. I can tell it's going to be crispy on the outside and soft in the middle when it just came out of the pan. But it doesn't taste much like anything. Lacking a little bit salt and the sweetness from dough. Their bao is ok, really big, great value. Flavor is close to what I grew up with. The dough for the hao has a good structure. But the cut of meat they use for the filling is quite fatty so it's hard to want to keep eating it. Plus it being 3 hours old when I got it the dough is all soggy from steam water. Over all, decent bao, worth a try. Their smoked meat pancake also didn't meet the standard. The pancake wasn't flakey and tastes greasey. But again, bear in mind what I tasted was 3 hours old but because they didn't wash the scallion inside, i can taste the pesticide which is extremely bitter. And paired with greasy pancake and fatty meat it leaves a rather bad flavor in the mouth. I tried heating it up on the pan but didn't help. Im quite surprised as their meat dish is above 5 stars but their dough snacks are quite disappointing and they are a northern restaurant with dumpling in their name lol I do want to try visit them in store and try some of the other stir fries as the pictures look amazing and the chicken i had was delicious. But I have to say, it is still better than most restaurants that sell scallion pancake and shredded pancakes. With a little bit quality control and improvement they are very well up there. read more
