We had these ordered into work to celebrate Chinese new year and I was blown away! Delicious flavor and the chili oil and dumpling sauce served with them was amazing! I got to try the beef, shrimp, pork and lamb dumplings and all of them were truly amazing! I have to go back to try some pan fried dumplings for sure! A welcome surprise

Allow me to tell you about this restaurant. After walking around Chicago and walking six miles my friends and I were famished! We somehow ordered 45 dumplings, chicken, beef lo mein, and fried tofu. Everything exceeded expectations! That is the best tofu I have ever eaten. It was crisp on the outside but melted in my mouth! The chicken was crispy and flavored so nicely! I will be thinking about this food on my death bed! I will be back to this restaurant time and time again. Somehow we had no leftovers, we demolished the food! Our waitress was incredibly helpful and everything came out within 10 minutes of ordering hot and fresh! The one thing is because of how good it all is, they need a bigger nicer building! This restaurant deserves more seating so they can feed more people the best Chinese food!

Me and my boyfriend decided to go to the restaurant to eat inside this time. The restaurant is very small. There is ambulance of seating. It's very intimate. Our food was served to us fresh. We both got chicken and lamb seemed dumplings. It seems that they have different options on the menu than they do in the app. The chicken dumplings that I ate there were cabbage and mushroom. They were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the kimchi fried rice. It was not good at all and we were charged an extra two dollars to substitute the pork for beef. With the substitution, it looked like they cut up half of a thin piece of beef scattered within the rice. The rice tasted old and flavorless with a whole bunch of chili sauce blended into it. The service was decent. Our server served us our food and made sure we had everything we needed. I wouldn't come back to eat inside. I would strictly order takeout from here. It seems like they prioritize more quality in their takeout food than they do dining in. We did notice that they had a lot of pick up orders and Uber eats orders.

This is a true mom and pop shop where prices are extremely affordable with great portions too. I got the pork and chive dumplings and they were v tasty. Def want to go back and try the other kinds of dumplings that they have.

Definitely a hidden gem. Came across this restaurant because my daughter wanted dumplings. They did not disappoint. It's a very compact restaurant. My daughter ordered the vegetarian dumplings. My friend had the shrimp lo mein, and I had a chicken and potato with noodle dish. I can't remember the name. We shared a combo fried rice, no pork. All the entrees are large enough to share for a decent price. I appreciate they use jumbo shrimp in their dishes. The dumplings were flavorful and so was the shrimp lo mein. My noodle dish was good but the chicken lacked flavor. The sauce in the dish was delicious but the chicken either needed to marinate in it longer or they need to season the meat. Service was fast. I really liked they brought each dish out as it was ready. The dumplings took longer because they are hand made to order.

It's a bit outside of Chicago's actual Chinatown, old Chinatown, and it's less crowded in this area so it's not as busy, which is nice because it's quieter. Parking... you can find it on the street and it's free on the street on Sundays. Most of the dishes are really decently priced and the servings are good enough. The salt and pepper tofu was slightly battered and very good at $12, the vegetable fried rice $10 was not too oily, but had enough vegetables, including broccoli and it wasn't too salty, the vegetables w garlic sauce was not good because the garlic sauce was a little bit too thick with Cornstarch so it was gelatinous and a bit spicy. Overall, a good deal for your budget. They are known for their dumplings and they are good. We went another day in July 2025 and repeatedly asked for garlic sauce instead of white sauce for mixed vegetables but despite the waitress speaking English perfectly, the food was a big disappointment bc it was white sauce :-( They have so many garlic sauce dishes so I don't know why they didn't substitute it. In addition, the vegetables were only cabbage, carrot, about 2-3 pieces of mushrooms, 3 small broccoli pieces, a random piece of tofu cut up in pieces, onion, celery, green pepper, and lots of oil. I was expecting a nice variety of broccoli, mushroom, snow peas, bamboo shoots, corn, garlic, and watercress. But not here. I won't eat the mixed veges ever again.

There's a "decorative" fish tank where the fish are clearly dead or dying. The tank seems completely lacking any kind of care for these animals. Yeah the dumplings are good but the service here is super minimal you always have to ask for your server to come attend to you and now with the way they're treating live animals, I'm good on continuing to support this place.

Ordered takeout through Chowbus after being recommended this restaurant from a friend. The dumplings and pancake arrived still hot - dumplings were super juicy. We ordered both the chive, pork and shrimp and the cabbage and pork dumplings. Both were amazing. The food was prepared super quickly and timely. The food also arrived early! I recommend ordering chili oil as well since they do it really well there! Highly recommended and will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in the Chicago area

Great spot in Bridgeport neighborhood. Made to order dumplings are phenomenal. Quick service in a friendly and clean environment. Unbelievable value. Pay a little extra to have them pan fried. Will be back..

Sweet little neighborhood restaurant. We got several selections and shared. Our server was very sweet.

Off the beaten path - ambiance is more low key, hole in the wall vibes. The service was fine. Nothing on either extremes of overly attentive vs negligent. Food was great! The bread was crispy, flaky yet chewy and moist. The hot and sour soup was huge and so sour, savor and salty with a little peppery kick. And that cucumber salad was amazing! Tangy, sour, salty, crunchy mix of cucumbers, green onions, and belll peppers with a vinegar based sauce. I highly recommend trying it.

The best dumplings in Chicago. Full stop. The shrimp dumplings are sublime - juicy, flavorful, and silky on the palate.

Thankfully, that wasn't the case--I enjoyed the meal overall, even if it wasn't a "wow, this is the best meal ever" experience. The biggest surprise for me was the dried chili chicken. I almost didn't order it because so many reviews said it was overly salty and spicy. We asked for less salt, and they were happy to accommodate. I actually thought the spice level was very manageable, and it ended up being one of my favorite dishes. The orange chicken was another pleasant surprise. I expected it to be a basic, Americanized option, but it was delicious and ended up being one of my favorites of the meal. My friends really enjoyed the dan dan noodles, which seem to be one of their signature dishes. Personally, I thought they were good but not particularly memorable compared to everything else. The mango shrimp was tasty as well, but it wasn't something I'd consider a must-order on a return visit. Service was great. The waiter was friendly, accommodated our request for less salt, and we were seated immediately. We arrived about 10 minutes before opening on a weekday to line up, and that seemed to work well. overall a great experience!

This is a tough one. Not happy at all. With all of the wonderful legendary Chinese places closing…read moreover the past few years (Kow Kow, Hong Min, Pekin House, and even the best egg rolls at Mee Mah), Sun Wah has been solid over the years- their whole duck is legendary and incredible. BUT, as wonderful as the food is, the last 5 visits have been dreadful. The angry waitresses are part of the deal, but when we're spending a few hundred bucks on dinner, enough is enough. Asking for extra sauce and being told NO- asking for extra bao wrappers and being told NO, asking for extra daikon for the duck when we're given a half full dish in the first place in unacceptable. And like I said, that's part of the deal. And the food is so good that you put up with it. But what happened last week was the last straw. We ordered egg rolls, 2 large dumpling soups, pot stickers, a whole duck, medium ribs, sweet and sour chicken, and for an appetizer, a medium BBQ pork. When the server brought the pork, first, it was cold. I guess that's also the deal. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes totally cold. But this time, and I'm not exaggerating, more than half of the order was pure white fat. Not fatty pork, white solid fat. we tried chewing git to see if there was any meat, but no. So, I finally got the servers attention and showed her. She looked at it, and then walked away. I assumed she was going to bring us a new order. Instead, the owner walked over. I showed her the 2 plates- 1 plate with half of the solid white fat, and the other plate with chewed up fat pieces. Instead of apologizing and bringing over a new order, she said "sometimes the pigs we get are very fatty". So I replied something like "sure I get that, but you can't serve this to customers" and " can you please bring us a new order of actual pork and not just a plate of fat"??? and she then looks down at both plates and says "you already ate it so we can't do anything. I tell her that, no, I didn't eat anything- you can see a plate with chewed up and spit out fat, but she literally WALKS AWAY. So then of course we wait for her to bring a new order over, but that never happens. And we're loyal customers for many many years, and she knows us. This extreme lack of care for your longtime customers is nauseating. Like I said, we've put up with it for years because we love the food (as well as putting up with the many health code violations over the years), but after this huge fuck you from the owner over a few bucks worth of pork? We're done. And our friends are done. This rude pathetic refusal to admit that you're serving inedible food and take care of your loyal customers with a few dollars in pork will now cost you THOUSANDS of dollars every year, because we have now told 20 of our friends to stop going, and they all agreed with us. The Jiaozi were the first big letdown. The menu said they were beef short rib and bone marrow, but they didn't taste like that at all. The filling was just super mushy and the flavor was just weird. The manager and the food runner were nice when we mentioned it, but our actual server was a disaster. When we tried the Goat Noodles, all we could taste was cumin. It was so overwhelming that it covered up everything else. We couldn't even tell if there was actually any goat shoulder in there. When we told our waiter, she couldn't care less. She got totally defensive, wouldn't even listen to us, and just said, "Oh, I told you when you ordered that the dish is cumin forward" and walked away. It got worse when the bill came.
