I was visiting Austin for a conference. I love Austin. It is usually a foodie paradise. It was my last day and I just wanted a nice latte at a nice coffee shop with some breakfast before leaving. I saw Forthright on Yelp and it looked cute and walking distance. I thought it was IN the Four Season but it's next door in the office building. It was cute and everyone seemed nice. Looking at the menu prices were on the high side of average and the Forthright delight latte was a ridiculous $9!! But the whole reason I came was for a yum latte so I ordered it and the American Breakfast. Eggs, bacon, potatoes and sourdough toast. I asked for crispy bacon and if I could exchange sourdough to try a biscuit. Sure he said. Meal came and the bacon was floppy . No biscuit. He did bring me two little biscuits. So just note the biscuit are cute little guys not a big biscuit. No butter. No jam. And I just didn't see the waiter again to ask for some. The biscuits themselves were support doughy and dry if that makes sense. They stuck in my mouth. Had to rinse them down with the latte. So sad. I love a good biscuit. I didn't even finish one of them so I was happy I had the sourdough now because that's always good. Unfortunately they doused it with so much butter it was dripping. Which would be ok if the butter was a yummy kerrigold or even Costco's Kerrigold knock off! But it wasn't. It was not a tasty butter. Had a yucky after taste. So the eggs also had that after taste and the bacon was floppy so I only ate a few bites as floppy bacon makes me cringe. When the fat is all soft, gross. The latte was actually really good but not worth $9. Find somewhere else. Maybe $9 if it were in the Four Season and I could enjoy it in that beautiful lobby. This was a very simple meal that was just not done well. And for a final cost of $30 for the meal and latte it was incredibly disappointing. I won't be back. read more

Bright, fun and trendy place for a weekend brunch. I really like this place actually, may be because I get to see my long time friends here when they came visit ? :) We each ordered different things: mushroom toast, avocado toast and egg benedict. We also ordered an iced matcha latte and a forthright honey latte (with honey and cinnamon and vanilla), this one is extra delicious. I enjoyed my mushroom toasts thoroughly. I also love the brightly lit area indoor, the bar and cooking area was quite photogenic to take some pics. We didn't seat outdoor but outdoor seating was stunning too. The drink were accidentally made hot instead of iced for me and they were willing to switch it to iced, which is pretty cool. Service was neat and staffs were typical Austin friendly. This little gem is hidden in a nondescript office building off Cesar Chavez on Brazos. There are so many popular restaurants, including brunch places, on SoCo that you might miss Forthright, but you a shouldn't! Inside you'll find a much cuter cafe than the outside would ever lead you to believe exists. The space is small but they keep it from being cramped even when full. They started out on a rough note for me because they don't offer any type of coffee or coffee drinks in decaf. Since I can't have caffeine, this meant brunch without coffee. I decided to try the espresso martini and was disappointed again. It tasted more like a White Russian, heavy on the vodka flavor. My wife had the drip coffee and it wasn't bad. However, Forthright redeemed itself with the amazing food! My wife enjoyed her Avocado Toast just as much as any she had in Cali, which means very fresh and bountiful avocado. I had the Pineapple Coconut French Toast and was blown away. Forthright is a bakery and you could tell because the bread used for the avocado toast and the French toast was so fresh and artisan. Everything about the French toast dish was delicious. The pineapple was caramelized and the coconut mascarpone was perfection. This is a 5 star dish! We will go back and see what else on their menu can compete. read more

It's best to make reservations, they do charge $5 per person to reserve your table and it goes towards your total bill (just make sure you let them know and check the final bill). Cozy atmosphere with excellent service. Spiced lavender chai - 5/5. Balanced spice from the chai with sweetness of lavender. Creative and bold inclusion of raw lavender on top of the drink that adds texture. Toasted coconut French toast - 4/5. Light and airy. The toasted coconut is a genius use of textures to provide extra crunch on the outside of the toast. Pineapple and mint add a wonderful twist. Marscapone ties it all together. Great and creative. Chicken and waffles - 4/5. One of the best chicken and waffles I've ever had. Perfect crunchy waffle with great maple syrup. Smart portion of chicken, not overwhelming. Enjoyed a lovely girl's brunch for 3 on Sunday, Labor Day weekend. I'm so glad we had a reservation, or it seems we would have been waiting hours, if let in at all. We paid $20 to reserve, which went toward our bill. The atmosphere wasn't that of a cozy brunch spot as I had hoped, but felt a bit tight and the service rushed. The tables were situated close together; I understand the need to fit more guests inside at a time, however. I just wasn't sold on the ambiance overall. I opted for the chicken and waffles, which didn't disappoint. The chicken had much of those golden crunchy pieces, and the waffle was standard but good. I mixed some hot sauce in my syrup, as the toppings (butter/syrup) weren't anything unique. My friends enjoyed their meals as well. I wouldn't necessarily recommend waiting for a seat at this place, but if you are willing to think ahead and grab a reservation, you'll probably be glad you gave it a try! read more

Just like most downtown restaurant there is normally on hour and a half wait. They have a small parking lot or a pay garage is available. It was 21 dollars to park for two hours. Our seating time was less than an hour. Staff comes around to take drink orders while you wait. We were able to sit outside. I had the avocado toast. My eggs were cold and the bread was so hard it was hard to cut with the knife. I understand they want a hearty bread that cans stand up to the avocado spread but it was just to hard to eat. WOW! We loved brunch here. There was no wait for two at peak brunch time which we were excited about. We sat inside which was filled with natural light and had a nice seat next to a window. Loved the mimosa options, love when restaurants offer multiple juice options! The meals were also delicious and our server was super attentive. Our glasses were dirty when we first sat down at the table, but the waiter was quick to bring out clean new ones once we mentioned it! Just be careful where you park -- ended up in the parking garage next door which is associated with the hotel, and had to pay $50 for parking! I'm sure if you came on a less crazy day, or a pre-covid weekend when Everyone wasn't desperate to get out of their house, the experience would be better. However I don't live here to give them another chance so I can only base off what I saw and experienced. Overall, wouldn't come again. Most of the staff worked hard, but they seemed understaffed and a select few made time to chat up tables they weren't helping while others searched for our waiter helping out everyone else's customers and forgetting our requests. If it was staff alone it would be a higher rating. Add in the overpriced food that didn't match their menu pricing, the tacky table that needed resurfacing, gross stained cloth benches, and the unclean floors that look built up in a way that needs professional cleaning. We ordered the coconut chia seed pudding, wild mushroom toast, and their yummy milk and honey lattes. So, I went here on a Sunday for the first time for brunch with a few girls. Food was delicious service was terrible. Truthfully, I would have given 3 or 4 stars if not for the terrible service. It was a Sunday we had a reservation for 12:30, we got there a few minutes before and no tables were ready so we had to wait outside in the cold as there's not really room to be inside waiting and not be in the way. The atmosphere is chill, it's a fairly small space inside with a lot of tables and chairs packed in to maximize dining space. Not too loud and no music was playing. I got the French toast and bacon and that was pretty good. Especially the French toast. It was the right amount of sweet and buttery and super easy to cut through. I asked for my fruit on the side, and got a generous helping of that as well. Our waiter (male) was super nice and attentive, but for whatever reason the women at the front and the women waiting the other tables seemed like they did not want to be there and had very disengaged body language/facial expressions. The thing that really put a bad taste in my mouth is we had left a menu on the table in case we wanted to order more, so I had rested my prescription glasses on top of the menu. Some woman came up and without saying a word just reaches for my glasses; I had not clue what was happening so I just looked at her and reached too (I thought she was trying to take them) instead she grabs them (by the glass, which you should absolutely never do) and moves them off the menu, takes the menu, looks at me like I'm the one out of order, and walks away. This act was so rude and uncalled for. If she wanted the menu back she A. Could have asked B. Stated what she was doing and asked me to move my glasses. I don't think I have ever been treated so callously and I truly did nothing to her to prompt such behavior, she wasn't even our waiter. After this experience I will more than likely not return. read more

My friends and I got brunch here on a Saturday morning, the food came out super quick however, the coffee took a lot longer, and it was kind of diluted and watered down. Forthright is right on the corner of a massive downtown building that sits next to the line hotel. It's a trendy spot so there are a lot of people that tend to stop by. It took us awhile on Sunday morning to get a server but I understand because the entire place was full and people were on a standard 30 minute to an hour wait. Once the waitress came around I was happy with the Bloody Mary they sat in front of me, a bit pricey but what do you expect in this town! Next my friend and I ordered our food, she ordered chicken and waffles and I proceeded to order the avocado toast with two poached eggs.
