My husband and I stopped by for brunch today. The hostess first told us the wait would be 45 minutes but we got our table quicker than that. The ambience is really nice and location is perfect. Our server, Laura, was fantastic! She was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us customer service. The fróse was really good. You could taste the various fruit flavors from the ice cube. The cinnamon roll is amazing. Probably one of the best ones I've ever had. My husband and I barely made a dent in it. We also ordered the Cubano with tomato soup and Northwest Crispy Chicken Salad (hold the bbq sauce). The presentation of our food was spot on. Everything was so good. I can see why this place has so many positive reviews. I would definitely recommend stopping by this place. It seems like there's usually a wait (well worth it!). I came to Fork while on a business trip to Boise. The only reservation time was 4:30 PM via OpenTable, and luckily the time change was working in my favor and I didn't feel quite so pathetic for dining alone (making a reservation for 1 is the weirdest thing), and dining alone at 4:30 PM. I found the hostess to be really sweet, and I was immediately taken to my sad, solo seat. Luckily my sadness was short lived, because the menu at Fork is excellent, and it's hard to be sad when you have the option of ordering asparagus fries (which I did). I tried an Idaho Merlot while I was at Fork (when in Boise), that was delicious. The prices on wine by the glass was extremely reasonable, and I'm a convert to the deliciousness of Idaho's wine! (I even stopped at Whole Foods later on to pick up a few bottles to bring back home). For appetizers I ordered the aforementioned asparagus fries as well as the grilled rainbow carrots with goat cheese. Portions are enormous, and my eyes were definitely far too big for my stomach (considering that I also ordered an entree). The asparagus fries are a must - they were crispy and delicious, and like I said, the portions are tremendous. The carrots were equally good, and something I hadn't seen on a menu before. For dinner, I ordered the "BCS" (Boise Chopped Salad), which included arugula, cheese, corn, smoked trout, couscous, and tomatoes (I'm probably leaving something out). It was good, and again, the portion was absolutely enormous (and accompanied my second glass of wine very well). All in all, I found service to be attentive and not overbearing, which is a plus in my book, thought there was something for everyone on the menu at excellent prices, was really digging the overall vibe/decor, love the convenience of an OpenTable reservation, and thought the food was great. For one, including 2 apps, an entree, and 2 glasses of wine, dinner came out to $48, excluding tip. Will definitely come back here during a future trip to Boise! read more

When you first enter the restaurant you can tell that it is an overall friendly atmosphere and it features very dynamic lighting. The servers are usually very friendly and go out of their way to help you as best as they can. The food is delicious I would say it has a maybe 20-30 min wait until it's out but that somewhat standard for busy restaurants. One thing to keep in mind is making a reservation ahead especially on the weekends. Their food is top quality and they have TONS of delicious meals and even feature options that are accommodating to all, ie: vegetarian or gluten free. One thing to keep in mind is the prices. This place is worth all the hype and more! I travel extensively and this was my best meal in over a month. The atmosphere is fantastic and the service is great! I love when the bar tender tells you his name, asks yours and then shakes your hand. The food was DYNAMITE! The roasted artichoke made me feel like a little kid again eating the tasty treat with me mom. The dipping sauce complemented the lemon and char from the grill so well. I ordered the trout and it's hands down one of the best pieces of fish I've ever had. I'd compare it to my meal at Mamas Fish House in Maui. Do yourself a damn favor and visit this place. Came in for Sunday brunch and left disappointed. This restaurant came highly recommended and sad to say we won't be back. Waiter was not very friendly and pretty much ignored us most of the time. He seemed irritated we didn't order drinks to start. The brunch menu is very limited and all the dishes we ordered were smothered in hollandaise sauce that was very lemon forward and not good in our opinion. This restaurant almost put my wife in the hospital! She has ciliac disease and cannot eat gluten. We asked several times if dishes were gluten free they claimed they were. None of their dishes are actually gluten free. The server didn't care, the owner was rude and belligerent. They couldn't care that she was sick for two days and their answer was they wanted to give us a free meal. I would never eat there again. Even my meal was mediocre, the service sucked. And they don't even understand the ramifications of their lying about being gluten free. read more

Updated review- I came back for redemption and received it. All of that is because of an amazing server named Leslie. As soon as we sat, she came over and mentioned some of the must haves on the menu, answered the questions we had and took our drink order. I wasn't in the mood for an alcoholic beverage even though they have a pretty extensive list. I asked what non alcoholic drinks they had and it seems like all there is, are Coke products. She saw the unexcitement in my face, so she recommended getting the Fork Lemonade, minus the booze. Why isn't that on the menu? Kids would drink that ish right up! Fork- get a better non alcoholic drink list! A non fountain lemonade, maybe an iced peach green tea, Expresso beverages, chai.... Anything besides booze and Coke products. You have a beautiful food menu, get a non alcoholic drink menu to match. Food was all great, we ordered the tomato basil fondue, urban burger, onion rings and butter cake. Fondue is always a good time Onion rings were prob the BEST I'VE EVER HAD! It has to be magic, there is no other way to make such a crunchy/non greasy/beautiful ring. My burger was better this time but not perfect, it was barely pink inside even though I ordered it medium rare. Still had great flavor though. Star of the show is the butter cake, I mentioned that we should learn how to make it. Then I realized I would probably go into a depression learning how much butter is actually in that thing, so I'll just keep butter cake in the, "we only eat that at restaurants," category. Service has been very good whether we only have a drink or stay for dinner too. I tried the Voodoo chicken which was described by our friendly waitress as spiced in a Moroccan way. Loving spices and Moroccan cuisine, I gave it a try. It was very disappointing and tasted like boiled chicken, I couldn't tell that they used any spices at all. Service was nothing short of perfect. I got the BCS salad, and had it topped with grilled king salmon; it was refreshing and had a really good mixture of flavors and textures, though it could have used more of the couscous and pepitas. I enjoyed it with a very nice draft beer, served at nice chilled temperature, on their inviting patio. For dessert, the server had raved about their buttercake. I'm was so disappointed in the Fork today. I made reservations for 4 10 days prior and asked to sit by the window. We we sat in the corner even though there were booths available by the window. No biggie. Moved on from that. It took 10 minutes for our server to greet us. We ordered...our food was delivered by another server...but every meal was cold. Our server finally came back after we were almost finished with our cold food to check on us. He seemed less than interested in serving. We never had our waters or coffee refilled. I was not put on blast or anything and I commend them for this. So for professionally handling a poor review/complaint and really putting in the efforts to remedy the problem that I encountered with the the staff, I will have to change the review to a "A-OK" because not all businesses will take out the time and professionally handle a complaint in the manner that I received. I will reconsider giving this establishment another chance if I'm ever in the area because the customer service to remedy a problem was handled very professionally. ""Mezze mezze." The term used by my Italian in laws meant "some good, some not so good". They would say it accompanied by a shoulder shrug. I'm doing the same for our two dining experiences at Fork. Maybe our expectations were too high given the buzz about this place. We'll return to give Fork another at bat to see what we missed the first two times. If our third experience is like the first two, then three strikes and Fork is out. AMBIANCE: Interesting but not the 'all that' we anticipated. The light lined patio in the front is part of what makes one want to go in to this converted old bank building. The main dining room has the benefit of being lined with big windows but seating is oddly arranged with some banquettes and too tight tables. There are also sardine can tight tables in a secondary smaller room. (Tip: Avoid that one.) The bar has counter stools and a couple of high perch tables on the periphery with not a single spot of standard height seating. High ceilings and lots of hard surfaces makes the acoustics poor. SERVICE: Friendly on both visits. The first time we sat at the bar since all restaurant tables were full at 7:30 on a weeknight and we didn't want to wait 40 minutes for a table. As evidence that not everyone has had "mezze mezze" experiences at Fork, I offer up in fairness that these kinds of crowds typically come in due to good things. Applause for Jess, the bartender, who knew the menu well and could describe dishes to the people ordering from the dinner or dessert menus at the bar. She was adept at mixing great cocktails while taking orders for and delivering food from the kitchen all with smiles for her customers. She could teach a master class in how to get this right. Our second visit was at brunch on a Saturday late morning and the restaurant was nearly empty. The server was very friendly but food coming out of the kitchen had long delays and one of our two dishes arrived lukewarm while the other was hot. This suggests one dish waited on the other in the kitchen with coordination problems on the line or between the kitchen and server. FOOD: This was the big disappointment; both flavors and presentation. Most dishes were just OK for flavors and some were off for temperature at service. Food looked as if just plopped on the plate, presentation that suggests lack of attention in the kitchen. Were this Denny's, we'd say that would be consistent with low expectations. But to have that happen at Fork was not what we expected. On the plus side, the cinnamon donut holes with chocolate and peanut butter dipping sauces were as good as we heard. We enjoyed them at the bar for dessert where they arrived piping hot out of the kitchen with interesting presentation. (And at $9 in a size to easily serve 2 or 3, a good value too.) MENU / VALUE: Broad number of options and across price points. Choices range from $2 for a biscuit to $9 for a unique Caesar salad to $11 for a club sandwich to $14 for mushroom ravioli or trout to $25 for a flat iron steak. Given the range of prices and options, seems that two could dine well at Fork without libations in the mix for as little as $40 before tax and tip. LIBATIONS: Full bar with great cocktails at on par prices. Also have a decent number of wines by the glass and an extensive by bottle offering with an appropriate focus on NW wines. Bottle prices seemed too high for lower end offerings, like King Estate Acrobat Pinot Gris for $40. Higher end wines, like $127 for Leonetti Merlot, seemed on par. Nearly four dozen bottled and canned beer options. THIS N THAT 1) GETTING IN THE DOOR: Patio is on street level and entry to check in at the restaurant or dine inside is up a flight of stairs. For those who can't climb that many stairs, includes me as I have MS, Fork built a ramp along the side of the building with entry through a side room door. From the strollers parked in that side dining room during brunch, we'd say a number of folks use this access. It is the law (ADA) to provide a ramp like this, of course, but not all places do it. 2) COFFEE: Worth singling out the coffee service as it is unusual. Good dark roast, served in a huge mug is brewed as pour over. At $3, you are allowed only one refill. When we sat at the bar coffee was served piping hot. At the brunch service, the first mug was served lukewarm. 3) ALAVITA NEXT DOOR: Not big fans of Fork but we're smitten with sibling, Alavita, located next door. Same owners. So not much more to add since my last review, we do keep coming down here and we really like the place. Since I last reviewed this place, they've added outdoor dining and changed the menus around a bit for the lunch crowd. The food here is really excellent. The folks from Food & Wine magazine checked this place out since my last review and they agree this place really knows their wines. Based on our other dining experiences, I wanted to give it five stars, but last we went, there was yet another service failure. The waitress indicated what we should be looking for on the lunch menu, but we couldn't find it with the new online menu, and she never came back. We finally had to go back to the restaurant to the hostess to ask what the heck was going on, and what we could order. Also, agonizing whether it was my breath, we dressed down too much, or I smelled funny. Finally, we just determined the new lunch menu wasn't for us and aborted. It's still a really good place, and we'll keep coming back, we just wish the front of the house was on point more than 77% of the time (nine visits, two incidents of the magical disappearing server). TL;DR Great food, great atmosphere, you'd be lucky to eat here..no I mean luck is involved. From the original review: This restaurant is in the renovated Idaho bank building that used to house the Irish bar and disco concept venue (wow, wonder why that failed). The place has gotten a much needed face lift, and its now has some wonderful ambiance, It has both indoor and outdoor seating, a full bar, and it focuses on the locally sourced food concept. The presentation is decidedly nouveau with some old standbys like burgers mixed in.The food is excellent, but it is on the expensive side and the portions sizes are small, but the focus is on quality not quantity. This is good for a date night or a special occasion where you don't want to go to an over the top fancy restaurant. It's a good venue for the business lunch crowd or to entertain clients.The bar staff knows their wines very well, which is an added bonus you don't usually find in a Boise restaurant this size (or one that's not several times more expensive). One word: Erratic. Fork is the most inconsistent restaurant that I've been to in a long time. I have had dinner three times and lunch twice and have hesitated to write a negative review because I want to like this place as much as everyone else seems to. I appreciate the mission of Fork's owners to support locally sourced food growers and craft breweries and winemakers. I also think the atmosphere is smart and sophisticated at the same time yet maintaining an easy going, cool vibe. Fork is always lively and the physical space is representative of the continued urban redo of historic buildings in downtown areas. The menu reads beautifully and you are immediately eager to try all of the offerings. Unfortunately Fork's biggest flaw is in the execution of this locally focused menu. The dishes are usually off by just enough to make them...forgettable, but not always. Ugh! This is very frustrating for diners when on some nights the food is good and on others it's actually quite bad. The other thing that needs attention is the menu pricing: some items represent real value and on others you just feel taken. The wait staff is mostly pleasant, but there is some aloofness and not as much graciousness as one would expect. I wonder if some of the detachment comes because Fork is so busy all the time that the servers don't have to work as hard to please as some other places in this small town. The bartenders have been uniformly friendly and decent. Make sure you make reservations, since this may be the most popular place in town but when calling, be aware that the phone etiquette could be improved, especially when you call for a reservation and the time you've requested is not available. There is a tendency to make you feel privileged to dine at Fork and that mindset will undo even the most ambitious vision of the owners. Here is the list of items that we have tried from the menu- Apps and Salads: Tomato Basil Fondue and Grilled Cheese: OK I guess, but a major service flaw, the candle to keep the cheese hot and melted was never lit! Miso Glazed Black Cod Lettuce Wraps: really great; nice presentation with the shredded phyllo giving a nice crunch. Price was a little steep at $13, but they were tasty. Cheese Plank: Nice for sharing. Great assortment of cheeses on our board, creamy, zesty, and stinky! Very good and the fruits and nuts were perfect. House Chips: decent homemade potato chips. Nothing special...Kettle Brand chips in the bag just as good. Bogus Bosc Pear salad: Totally fine, but at $9 the a la carte salad is way overpriced. Entrees: Urban Burger: juicy burger, great fries! Too bad the bun was wimpy: too soft and too difficult to hold up to the yummy beef; soggy mess by about 1/2 of the way through eating. Cool presentation on the board. Prime Rib French Dip: meat was excellent, bun was weak...this is a negative trend so maybe Fork needs a new local source for bread? Grilled Pork Chop: Probably the worst thing I've eaten at Fork. The pork chop was charred on the outside and medium on the inside. I asked for medium rare. I believe that they tried to rush this dish out and ruined it. Also, the pear chutney had no flavor. The port wine drizzle was missing completely from the plate and the fingerling potatoes had no flavor...even the menu promised garlic! Salt people, salt! Idaho Rainbow Trout: Probably the best thing I've eaten at Fork. Local trout, grilled, fresh awesome! A real value at $14. Alaskan Salmon: The most misrepresented title for an entrée on the menu. This is a pasta dish first, with the salmon on top. Still a good dish and a good value. Light for a pasta. Desserts (everybody's favorite category): Warm Butter Cake: delicious cake, rip off pricing at $10. This is flour and sugar people! Really? Chocolate Trio: delicious and a real deal at only $8. So here we have awesome chocolate and homemade ice cream and this dessert is priced accordingly. Sugar Doughnuts: awesome presentation, lots for sharing with the table. Served warm and tasted like a corn fritter. I think they were overcooked...but still tasty! Yum. Chocolate Bread Pudding: the worst dessert I've tried. Overly nuked caused the bread pudding to be very DRY. Could not discern the bourbon caramel-cream sauce at all...maybe it evaporated in the microwave? read more

We had a great meal at Fork! Everyone enjoyed the appetizers and their respective entrees. The Tomato Basil Fondue & Grilled Cheese was great. Very tasty! We also ordered the Glazed Brussels Sprouts, which my friends loved, but I didn't feel like trying. My entree was the Pan Roasted Alaskan Halibut, which was perfectly cooked, well seasoned, and delicious. The seasonal veggie succotash was good, although I would have preferred a large portion, and the lemon beurre blanc on the Halibut was very good.
