Stopped in St Augustine on a whim and wandered into Forgotten Tonic. Unbeknownst to us, they were doing a Christmas "Miracle" pop up! It was absolutely delightful. They told us there was a 5 hour wait, so we sat at the bar which was the best decision we could have ever made. The service was amazing (shoutout to Ella!) and they provided us with great recommendations, along with comping some (very delicious) meatballs that were missed in our order. I had the duck pasta and my partner had the chicken sandwhich. Both of them were delicious and very filling. The drinks were festive and each came in their own unique glass/mug. This was one of my favorite spots for four years running. I was so looking forward to meeting up with friends during the holidays as Forgotten Tonic really knows how to make a festive display for the holidays. Even though it's a fairly small tight place there was a huge Beautifully decorated Christmas tree inside & so many other decorations that it was hard to point them out individually. We started at the bar which should not be missed during holiday season. There are drinks with fun names like Christmasadaurus, Crooked Antler and Stocking Stuffer. Many served in whimsical ceramic mugs at a hefty price tag but it's the holidays right? We waited at the bar for our reservation about 20 minutes which was acceptable during this time of year. Once we were seated a hostess plopped down our menus without even a glance or a smile when we thanked her. Our server took a while to come over to the table. Since we had already had our first round of drinks at the bar we skipped right to appetizers. We ordered the Cajun egg rolls & hummus plate. The Cajun egg rolls were excellent filled with chicken cream cheese, black beans with a spicy sauce on top. We all enjoyed them. The hummus plate was pretty pedestrian & had a few carrot sticks and celery sticks served with it. Our server throughout our meal was pleasant but acted sort of indifferent. None of us could put a finger on exactly what the issue was but we felt as though she was a robot who really didn't want to be there, perhaps a bad day. All of our meals were good, not great, not outstanding as I've had here in the past. Maybe it's because I had high expectations from my previous visits. My friends were really put off by the blurb at the bottom of the menu describing the Surcharge for the employees. I have included the photo & explanation. (Although it is only 3% ) Most of our party felt it is management's responsibility to include benefits for their employees and it should not be passed on to the customer. Second time here. Celebrating my 1 year anniversary. Food is top notch! The waiter and bar tenders were extremely attentive and accommodating. I was so shocked! On our visit to St. Augustine, we stopped at Forgotten Tonic for lunch. We were initially seated at a booth but you sunk down so low on the benches that the table ends up being too high. We moved to a regular table and it turned out to be much better. Our waitress took our drink order and we proceeded to each order the a burger with a side of French fries. The burgers came out pretty quickly and were of decent quality. They weren't the best I've ever had but they were above average. I would normally have given a 4-star review. I think the real rating is closer to 3.5 but since you can't give half stars, I would round up to 4. The reason I am giving a 2-star review is because the restaurant did something which in my opinion borders on fraud. They added a 2.99% optional surcharge to the bill without informing me about it. It was on the bill but it is easy to miss and the waitress never said a word about it. They bring the payment device to the table and it wasn't until after I had paid my bill and entered a 20% tip that my fiancé mentioned she had seen something in the bathroom about the surcharge. I asked what the surcharge was for and the waitress said it was so the restaurant could provide health insurance to their employees. That's nice but don't tack on a bogus optional charge on my bill without telling me first. I bet like me most people didn't even notice it's there. It only amounted to a couple of dollars but it's the principle. I think moves like this are highly dishonest and deceitful. If the restaurant wants to give its employees health insurance, raise the price of the food to cover it. Because of the hidden "optional" 2.99% surcharge, I can only give Forgotten Tonic a 2-star rating. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

What an amazing lunch! There were 5 of us and every meal was delicious. I had the blackened red fish sandwich and it had so much flavor. The fries were crispy We were happily surprised to see the Miracle Bar and enjoyed trying several of the specialty drinks in the fun and festive holiday glasses. I made the reservation a few weeks in advance, and was seated at a table that made me feel uncomfortable (it was in the middle of people leaving and coming in, and we asked to move to a booth. Our server gladly assisted. We ordered two holiday themed drinks which were pretty good, but the food stole the show. The Cajun egg rolls were so good! I wish they had more sauce for me to dip them in the chicken bella was packed with so much flavor and the mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly. The fish sandwich was exactly what I was craving. The pretzel bun was a great touch. I wasn't a fan of the cucumber salad - it needed more vinaigrette. The bruschetta...ahhhhhh...2 huge slices of toasted bread with tomatoes and a ton of creamy mozzarella that dripped down your hand!!!! We enjoyed that evening so much, we went back the next night just to try more!!!! Had the same drinks(why fool with perfection?) and I had the best mountainous heap of unreal hummus with celery, carrot strips and that divine sliced toasted bread. Came for dinner the last week of November and it was delicious! They had decorations up for Christmas that were super cute too (and alcohol themed holiday drinks). I got the bruschetta appetizer (yummy - huge bread slices) and the burger that was on special. It had pimento cheese, bacon, jalapeños, fried egg and was served on a pretzel bun. 10/10 would recommend! We had such a great experience here tonight! Made a reservation for 6:15 and were able to switch to sit outside because the weather was so nice. Our server was super sweet and gave plenty of recommendations, all of which were amazing! We tried: the seasonal burrata, Cajun egg rolls and the burger for food and the Forgotten Tonic (had to!), I can't even, Sly Fox, & No Survivors for cocktails. Everything was incredible and plenty of food to split between two. We were celebrating a special event, so I called earlier in the day but the hostess told me they only did things for birthdays...no problem, when I got there to check in for our reservation I was able to ask the hostess and whom turned out to be the manager if they were able to do anything special and they assured me they'd take care of it. They did an incredible chocolate mousse cake with a sparkler, and as we were finishing up, were brought a champagne toast and told the bar manager sent it over. Everyone we dealt with made our experience extra special, and we will definitely be back next time we're in town!! On a side note, don't let the few negative reviews reflect on this place. Their kitchen is small and it is explicitly stated in numerous places that they cannot accommodate larger parties. Some older ladies made fools of themselves cussing at the hostesses (!!) after being turned away because they didn't have a reservation and were over the party size limit. The optional "surcharge" everyone is complaining about is TWO PERCENT of your bill. These are such menial complaints for what is an amazing experience. I will note that a credit card is needed to make the reservation. We had no intention of no-showing, so that wasn't a big deal. We arrived at 3:10 and waited a few minutes to be seated. There was some confusion over the waiting parties but it was fine: the staff just wanted to get everything right. The inside of the venue was adorable with ornaments and lights and signage. I loved it. We ordered drinks from the holiday cocktail menu. I had the Chrismapolitan and my husband got the Yippy Ki Yay Mother F****r. Both drinks were amazing and served in such cute glasses. Our server took her time raving about the menu. It's small but everything sounded fabulous, and so much is made from scratch. We got the fresh bread, marinated olives and Cajun egg rolls to start, and all were heavenly. Our son got the veggie flatbread (which was loaded with beautiful veggies) and we split the chicken Bella. The kitchen provided separate plates, which was a nice touch, and the meal was phenomenal. This little tucked away place is a real gem. We had not been even down the little side street that Forgotten Tonic is on, and I'm glad we wandered down. We got the Cajun Eggrolls to start and they were surprisingly delicious. Quite enjoyed the sauce and a nice little kick of spice in the roll. We shared the short rib, which was a seasonal special, and the redfish sandwich. The redfish was delicious and well cooked with a nice fresh Cuban roll. I opted for the potato salad instead of French fries which was good not great; could use some more of the dressing. The short ribs though. Holy moly easily the best part of the night and maybe the best weve had. We were a little hesitant as it had fresh mint on it - it really really worked. So we followed our gut instinct and changed plans and so happy we did. First, the place has a great atmosphere and vibe. It's loud so be prepared but who cares. We aren't that old. If you don't like the noise they have outside seating on this quaint little brick street. Just a killer vibe all around.
