We always like supporting local spots, and this was an easy meeting location, so we were hopeful. It's also worth noting they currently hold a strong 4.5 rating, and it seems like many locals really enjoy this place. That said, the biggest drawback for us was the portion size compared to the pricing. One person in our group ordered a Reuben, and the meat didn't even cover the bottom slice of bread--with not enough to redistribute. The fries portion was very small (more like a kids' serving), and the plate was around $13. That seemed to be the general theme--nothing tasted bad, but nothing stood out, and portions felt light across the board. Atmosphere-wise, it's what you'd expect from a diner--casual, relaxed, and easygoing. We'd consider going back for convenience, but it's not a place we'd go out of our way for. The menu is interesting, and we're pleased with our choices. The Corn Beef Hash had chunks, rather than ground hash, while very good, he preferred the latter. The Datil Burger was excellent. I asked for the sauce on the side. Without asking we got refills on the coffee. If there is a long wait, I saw a few interesting shops to browse in. We will definitely return.

However, every delivery order we've ever gotten from there has been completely messed up. Most of the time missing items, or neglecting to make elected substitutions (offered not implied). However, literally EVERY time we've ordered from there we have not received any sauces or dressings... First off, I'm not talking about a ketchup packet, I'm talking about salads with no dressing. Chicken tenders with no dressing, etc... things that made the food inedible when you don't receive them... so, straight in the trash they go. Also, I'm not talking once or twice... I'm talking probably 6 times. So much so, in fact, that I now buy sauces and dressings from the store to keep on hand in case we order food from there because we know we aren't getting it - which defeats the purpose of ordering out. Also, so many times we've had to request refunds that UBER EATS cancelled some of our features because it has pretty much labeled us as complainers at this point, and they assume that we're doing this to get out of paying - which, if we're honest, you send me a salad to my house with no salad dressing, I AM going to ask for a refund. I'm not a rabbit, nor do I have a rabbit to feed it to. At the end of the day, I'm not trying to rant - but seriously, I've been eating at Metro Diners for nearly 30 years, and have done so in numerous states at this point. I love the restaurant, but this location just seems helplessly lost. If you're going to eat here, do it in person - so at least you can send someone to fetch whatever they don't bring. I wouldn't order delivery from here unless my goal was just to not eat dinner... like a new fad diet... Anyways, hate to make people look bad, but their QC has been so bad that it has made US look like the bad ones. That's a new low that I didn't even realize was possible. The problem is the food....and let's be real, that's what we're really coming for, right!? We had a party of 8 and not a single one of us had food that was properly seasoned. Not a SINGLE one of us. Our entrees ranged from burgers, to fish, to chicken sandwiches, heck, the kids even had Mac and cheese, and nothing had any seasoning at all. It was so strange. If it weren't for the toppings/sauces on the burgers, it likely wouldn't have even been edible. I came in with my 5 daughters this afternoon. Our hostess asked if my 5 TEENAGE daughters needed a kids menu. I answered no, then she proceeded to tell each of my kids "here's your menu" *with accent*. The hostess then looked at me with a gorgeous smile and scared one of my daughters, which made the beginning of the experience VERY enojoyable. #jumpscare After our waiter came he gave us our drinks and the water was not the best. It was very salty and not pleasing. The staff then proceeded to yell an annoying song at my teenage daughter while blowing horns and banging on pots and pans. Not sure what the base was but flavor wise it definitely was not for me. But on a positive note, it was made with white meat chicken. The biscuit on top not a fan favored either. Overall, the five stars goes to the outstanding service we received and the reviews of my friends and their meal. I normally wouldn't go on about hash browns but these were REALLY good! The thing that held the quiche back from being great was that there wasn't a whole lot of crab meat. Lauren had the Breakfast Burrito, added sausage to it and asked for a side of Pico which is something she learned from a previous visit. She's had this burrito before and loves it. She was going on and on about how much she loves it today as well. She actually said "I wish this place was closer to our house because we'd be here way more often" to which I replied "yeah but we have University Diner right by our house, so we're not hurting". Which leads me to a very funny situation: A gentleman showed up at our table like 30 seconds later and said "Hi, I hear you guys go to University Diner? Do you know Andrew? He's my son". We were like "YES! We know Andy!" but the funnier thing was like Lauren had a revelation and said "OH! THAT'S why I love this breakfast burrito so much!" The chips are just seasoned fries and were also decent and the cole slaw was solid. It wasn't same cole slaw from the old menu but it was good. Our server Alex has been there since the old menu and vibe and he shared - when I asked - about the changes. The area asked for these changes so they adapted and the crowd showed it on a rainy Friday night.

We were immediately seated inside (Florida outdoor heat at noon, ugh ...) and ordered cool drinks while perusing the menu. Everyone selected different options along with two appetizers that were shared. The dining room offered a nice view of the intercostal waterway while we were able to talk among ourselves. Our lunch meal orders arrived at a good time, nothing was being rushed as the dining room was completely filled with hungry customers. A variety of sandwiches and an order of brisket tacos were placed before us and were all thoroughly enjoyed! Coffee was ordered to top off our meal and our leisurely lunch began to wind down. Our waiter was attentive, very pleasant and always touched base with us at just the right time! This was not our first visit to Valley Smoke Restaurant and it will certainly not be our last!
