Today I brought my husband and some friends and the garage door was open in front to let some fresh air in. My friend commented on the relaxed atmosphere. Drinks were good. I had a vanilla latte.

Finally, something nearby, local, and brings the community together only a few minutes away. Since then, I've gone twice and been impressed by the drinks I've ordered. The gentleman working both days was kind, helpful, and made the drinks quickly but accurately. I love their specialty chai iced coffee that's made with ginger in it. It has the perfect amount of spice to coffee ratio. I have yet to try their baked goods but I look forward to that as well. The space has ample seating and tables should anyone want to sit and enjoy their drink or pastry while there. I also noticed that it would be a perfect place to study! I know I'll be utilizing this cafe more often in the near future to focus on studying. If you're ever in the area or you want to try out a local coffee shop I highly suggest making it out this way and give Cups Cafe a try. Every cup makes a difference when you support local!

This Breakfast/Brunch gem features a U shaped bar flanked by booths on either end of the room. Walking into this place feels like walking into a Time Machine from when it was opened in 50s or 60s (website said 1968). Regardless it hasn't changed much and that's the charm of it all. The background story of who Harold was captures the American spirit and the wall decorated with his war medals brings it all home and bolsters the charm of this place. In addition to Harold's story, the business also has some Hollywood charm. We sat diagonal from the booth that Jack Nicholson sat in for the 2002 film "About Schmidt" where he played a retired insurance agent from Omaha (the film was also mostly filmed on location). You'll know if you're in the booth because there is a gold plaque commemorating the booth. The servers were fast and friendly. This diner is known for their homemade cake donuts, cinnamon rolls, and pecan rolls; we unfortunately did not partake as we were too full. Prices were reasonable and as stated before, you get a lot of food. Bottom line: if you need a brunch spot and you have the time, go check out this dime of a diner...you won't regret it.

On June 20th we were celebrating our friends' 31st wedding anniversary and we decided to go out for Mexican. I'd seen a video review by Fooligan Eats for Ramona's and the food looked fantastic! But could it live up the the hype? Ramona's is in Florence which is basically North Omaha. It sits along 30th St. There is some street parking and more parking is available behind the restaurant. We were greeted right away when we walked in and invited to take a seat wherever we wanted to. There is a small area of outside seating. The seats inside are a combination of low top tables and chairs and booths. There are a few tall chairs at the bar. The restaurant decor and the building itself is a little dated. But we all know the best food isn't often found in bright and shiny places... I wish I could remember our server's first name... When I mentioned learning about Ramona's from the Fooligan Eats video she said she was the one who had served them too. She was a real sweetheart! Fantastic job with us from start to finish! Kept our drinks full and checked on us throughout the meal. The chips we received with our meal were a mix of fried flour chips and corn chips. They came with two salsas. The standard mild in a squeeze bottle and a hotter salsa in a bowl. Our party ordered the following: 1x Indian taco 2x Fried burritos (1x as is and 1x with a couple of subtle changes, chili on the side etc.) 1x Burrito dinner 1x Unsweetened tea (the rest just had water) Everyone loved their food! We have a small local chain called Tasty Tacos in the Des Moines metro that I really like. They serve a fried flour taco as their signature. More what you would probably call a puffy taco... That was the first time I'd had a taco on indian fry bread. My companions are all originally from Oklahoma so fry bread is something they know a little about... My indian taco was delicious! Mounds of shredded cheese and a very generous helping of beef under it. Ramona's has a fried flour/puffy taco too. They call it their Giant Taco and it's a full 12 inches across! The portions are HUGE! The prices are more than reasonable. All four of us ate for a little under $50 before tip I've had a few days to think about it... The drive from where I live to Ramona's is roughly two hours (plus or minus a few minutes). Now I'm not entirely sure I would drive the two hours just for their food, but I can tell you if I was ANYWHERE near there it would certainly be one of my go tos! Mexican food not really your thing...? They have burgers and a breaded pork tenderloin too! If you haven't tried Ramona's and it's in your backyard... Shame on you! A guy from Iowa shouldn't have to say it... Go try their food! https://ramonasmexicanresturant.com/#

She listed off all the daily specials and I'm so glad she did because the Croque Miss was a GREAT breakfast sandwich! The coffee and chai were some of the best I have had in a long time! The vanilla latte was made iced with oat milk and it was just sweet enough, something about the espresso beans just made it all blend together so well!! The chai was house made and it was SO great, like Christmas in a mug, just phenomenal. The food is different from other breakfast spots around Omaha. The croque miss was the breakfast sandwich special and it blew all other sandwiches out of the water. Thick bread, Dijon mustard, ham, and topped with 2 eggs! WOWOWOWOWOOWOW!! It was so complex and the flavors blended so well together! The only thing I wish there was more of was ham, just one more slice would have been great! The brioche French toast was thick, fluffy, and sweet. I loved the cranberries on top, another dish with great complementing flavors. The space itself is inside the Film Streams, it can seem funny walking into a theater and not going to see a movie but wow is it worth it! There are floor to ceiling windows to let in the beautiful natural light, plants all over and you can get your coffee to go here if you'd like! Lola's is definitely my new go to breakfast spot!
