My husband and I were visiting Omaha, Nebraska, and a friend who eaten here many times recommended Luigi's to us. It was our last day in Omaha, and what a wonderful way to end our trip! The restaurant itself isn't anything fancy, but it was peaceful and quaint inside, which made for a nice dining experience. Our waitress, Ava, was absolutely adorable! She was sweet, attentive, and came by our table to make sure everything was going well. I had the Capellini Pizzaiola, and my husband had the Veal Marsala. Both were excellent! My meal was so delicious that I had to get a go-box and took the leftovers home. I enjoyed them just as much the next day! Overall, we had a GREAT experience. This is honestly one of the BEST Italian restaurants I have ever eaten at-and I'm Italian and have eaten at MANY Italian restaurants! To anyone reading this: GO TO LUIGI'S! You will NOT be disappointed ! The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is wonderful! Thank you Ava, for making our visit even more enjoyable! (23 July 26)

Ok, so last time I visited Elk Horn a few years ago, it was a different restaurant and I forgot the name. I came back to visit my mom here in Iowa, and we wanted to see the windmill and got so much more than that! I knew we were about to go into a good spot when the group of people leaving the restaurant asked us,"Have you been in here yet? It was SO YUMMY!" That's always reassuring. We shared The BAM pizza. It was gooey, meaty, piping hot... and plenty for the three of us! And just a little PSA: Save room for a dessert. Maybe two! We got the bread pudding, which was fabulous! Then we overheard there was only one cinnamon roll left. They HAD to be good if they were almost cleaned out, right? It absolutely was! We didn't even get a chance to get a photo of them. I'm stoked to be coming back in a few months, by then, they'll be in their new location right near the windmill!

Alright. Let's begin. This place is adorable. And not what you'd really expect from "counter…read moreservice". Everything is very clean; you can tell the owner(s) take pride in the space. The menu is not overly large and I think that's perfect. Theoretically this would mean what they do make is done well. And that is no exception here. I ordered the D&D pizza- bacon, chicken, spinach with white sauce. The sauce is done well- not oily, and not so overly cheesy that you can't taste anything else. It's evident they use fresh spinach on the pizza as it still has a little bit of crunch to it- add the crisp bacon, and the shredded chicken, it's perfect. The crust is done to where it just starts to get some charred spots; which, if you like Neapolitan style pizza- you're good to go. I decided to try the lemon spritzer for a drink, and it was just enough lemon to know it's lemon, but not burnt with the alcohol. All the people working were super nice and friendly, and the dishwasher even came out with silverware and plates and was put together. I cannot wait to go back. If you're from the area and haven't tried it yet- go. If you're driving by, check it out. You won't be disappointed.

I was delightfully introduced to this cozy corner by the ever busy Shannon, and she wasn't kidding when said her (Nicola's) Lasagna Mediterranean was to die for. I was gifted a few bites and let me tell you... what ever magic Nicola sprinkles on it, was DELISH. I'm hardly a red sauce fan but ok now.. I see you. Snagged their Tiramisu Martini... and it was just.. perfect. No where near burnt (martinis seem to trick a few up), with that cozy warm Kahlua kick on the back end. A definite will do again in my book! I was feeling a little appetizer-ee this evening so I chose the Bruschetta and Prosciutto e Melone as my meal, and it was plentiful! The sweet (melon) salty (prosciutto) combo, mixed with some tangy asiago was out of the park. I may even dream about this appetizer if I'm completely honest... never mind the pieces of delish bread, topped with finely diced tomatoes. Just everything paired really, really well and it's such a great summer eve meal - peep that patio folks! Not pictured, was a few bites of their Lemon dessert that was incredibly light, airy, fresh, the slightest hint of lemon (it won't smack ya in the face) and the best sponge to her cake. A LOT of love is included, and you can tell.

The chicken didn't have any type of seasoning on it and was very bland. The panini shouldn't even be called a panini because it was a sandwich type. The pasta didn't taste like anything neither. Based on the food alone, this easily could have been a 4-star experience. Unfortunately, the service made us feel like we were an inconvenience from the moment we walked in. We didn't have a reservation, and I completely understand that it was a Friday around 6 p.m. in a small restaurant near the Old Market. We fully expected we might have to wait. Instead, we were told, "Well, all I have is this table for two, but I need it by 7." It was about 5:45, so we said that was totally fine and we'd easily be finished by then. From that point on, though, it felt like the clock was ticking. We were seated and immediately given water, which was great, but we already felt rushed so we quickly chose a pizza and focaccia to split. Once the food arrived, the check-ins became frequent enough that it was hard not to notice. As soon as we took the last piece of focaccia, the board was whisked away. As soon as we took the last piece of pizza, that was cleared too. The check came almost immediately. We were in and out in about 30 minutes...roughly 45 minutes before they actually needed the table. Take that for what it's worth, positive or negative. I want to give a lot of grace because it was a busy Friday night, but the overall atmosphere from the service, including a hostess who seemed visibly unhappy much of the time, kept this from being a four-star experience for us. The food is absolutely worth having again, but next time we'd probably choose carryout so we can enjoy it without feeling like a nuisance for being there.

It was okay, but in my opinion, it could have used a bit more flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the Spaghetti Nero Fra Diavolo with shrimp, garlic, white wine, butter, chili, herbs, and lemon. It was absolutely delicious! The shrimp tasted fresh, and the flavors came together perfectly--chef's kiss! My only critique is that the portion size was a little on the smaller side. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It wasn't overly loud, making it easy to enjoy conversation. We traveled a few blocks for fresh homemade Italian dishes, along with a number of neighbors who had the same idea. Arriving at 5:45-shortly after the 5:30 start time, we were surprised at the line that quickly multiplied with families taking advantage of the great weather and playground equipment that kept the young ones occupied. A wide variety of menu options were available including fresh pasta with a choice of alfredo, marinara or meat sauce. Meatball, brats and Italian sausage subs topped the sandwich offerings. Hamburgers and fries were offered but I didn't see or hear anyone ordering from the grill. A children's menu and family feast were also listed on the hand lettered menus taped to the truck. I ordered the fresh pasta with meat sauce and added a meatball. My husband opted for the Italian sausage sub with potato salad. My entree came with a breadstick and the meat sauce was so packed with meat that I probably could have skipped the added meatballs. My husband raved about his Italian sausage sandwich and I was impressed that they wrapped the bun in foil to keep it from soaking up sauce on the trip home. We had a short 5-7 minute wait for our meals which was delivered in foam takeout containers. Plastic napkin wrapped silverware was available for those eating in the park. The young lady taking orders was well equipped for the crowd and kept the line moving very efficiently. Credit cards were accepted and someone from the kitchen shouted a "thanks for coming" as we exited with our order. Food truck Friday is a welcome addition in our neighborhood and Pomodoro's did not disappoint.

Over time service dropped off (the staff is very young) and the food quality deteriorated. Over several visits we were served undercooked pizza, burned pizza, cold wagyu meatballs, and a glass of wine that had been wiped out with the rag they used to clean the counters so it reeked of (and tasted like) ammonia. Tonight we went in to give it another try. We were seated at the bar, one seat away from the manager who was evidently working on schedules or something similar. We browsed the menu, drinks list, chatted among ourselves, watched an employee try to figure out how to pull a draft beer from the tap, watched the couple beside us get their dinner, watched the manager share inside jokes or memes with one of the wait staff, and waited, and waited... over the span of approximately 10 minutes, as wait staff stood in the corner chatting, we were NEVER greeted, offered water, asked if we were ready to order... nothing. The manager who was literally one seat away from us at the bar was oblivious. We finally had enough waiting and decided to go elsewhere. I politely tapped the manager on the shoulder and explained to him that we were leaving, and told him why. He was shocked. Totally clueless.‍
