Delightful coffeehouse, book store and United Methodist church - a true urban abbey in the heart of Omaha's Old Market. This is your safe haven for inclusive and progressive theological resources as well as advocacy, plus they make an excellent latte. Their books are well curated, with the children's and youth sections and devotionals especially noteworthy for their depth of selection. Gift hunters will appreciate the fair trade section, along with an assortment of notebooks and candles and one of Omaha's largest and most unique sticker holdings Check their website, Instagram and Facebook for special events and worship times

Urban Abbey is located on the Old Market road where there are multiple restaurants and cafes. This cafe has sufficient parking available outside. The cafe is led by a young team and they are doing such a good job! I ordered Iced Mocha coffee and it was so good. The exact kind of coffee you need after a long tiring day. The team is very sweet and welcoming. The cafe has less sitting options and its a cafe with a very minimal interiors but perfect for a take out. They also have bookstore inside the cafe that one can checkout while waiting for the order!

I stumbled upon the Urban Abbey while visiting the Farmer's Market that is held right next door. I was looking for any sort of caffeine, and I'm glad I happened upon this neat little spot! The Urban Abbey isn't just a coffee shop, it's also a bookstore and church. They are pet friendly, and I saw several dogs inside enjoying their time at the shop with their owners! There is plenty of seating and there was a good blend of individuals sitting quietly and reading or studying, and groups visiting. The shop isn't crazy loud - it's very peaceful inside. I ordered a dirty chai and enjoyed the drink. It wasn't game-changing coffee, but it was good and I really enjoyed the environment in the shop. Definitely a nice place to stop in while downtown!

Stumbled upon this place while wandering in 35 degree weather in an unknown city, early in the morning searching for Starbucks. As the wind whipped against my lips causing them to burn, I saw this cafe out of the corner of my eyes. Could it be?! COFFEE? As I took shelter from the wind I was greeted by a friendly counter person and ordered a honey lavender latte. As I waited, I gazed at homemade gift items and random books for sale. I looked for to see a woman drinking coffee holding her dog. Due to my curious nature I asked the counterperson if this was a dog friendly spot? Any size of dog can come here? I was informed they are not only a Dog friendly spot but they love ALL animals. Guys. Do you know how long I have wanted to visit a cat cafe??? This is it. They allow cats!!! Pet your cat and drink your coffee. This is it. They also had chickens hatching in a corner. Yes you read that correctly. My coffee was magical and I believe they said 10% of these proceeds go to a non profit? I forget. Anyway. Cool spot. Check it out. The cat cafe!!!

During the week before my graduation in Omaha, my friends and I had an Airbnb nearby. One morning, we really needed a pick-me-up and looked for nearby coffee shops. We wanted to try a new one, so we decided on Urban Abbey Cafe. I ordered a Chai Tea Latte cold and for a little snack, my friend and I shared their chocolate muffin. The Chai tea latte was delicious and so full of flavor. The chocolate muffin was warmed to perfection - the chocolate chips were deliciously melted and the muffin was moist. I'm so glad we chose to visit this coffee shop because the baristas were also very friendly and knowledgeable!

The sign outside this little treasure in Omaha states "Coffee, Cause, Communion". We love this message and the commitment to social justice that this coffee spot represents. In addition to coffee there is a nice bookstore here with a variety of books focused on spiritual as well as social justice themes. This wonderful establishment also is the only place we have encountered in all of our travels where there was a free supply of feminine hygiene products available in the women's room. So generously thoughtful! The menu included a selection of specials called the Coffee Seeking Justice People. We ordered a Marsha P. Johnson, which is a honey lavender latte, and a R.B.G., a black and white mocha latte. The honey lavender latte had a delightful taste of honey and lavender mixed with the rich espresso which was a truly refreshing combination. The mocha latte was a delicious mix of flavors and very satisfying. We loved this delectable coffee repository and the message of justice and equity that it conveys. We will come back every time we are in Omaha and will also tell our friends in the area to stop by for coffee and more.

For serious reals, I legit MISS this place. I was in town for a conference, and needed a cool place to work. This cafe is awesome. It has everything mobile coffee shop workers of the world need -- free wifi, great natural light, excellent tea/coffee, snacks, and a whole bunch of books! I absolutely loved the feminist/queer flare of the place, and if I lived locally, I'd probably be there every day! If you live nearby and haven't checked this place out, you totally should do yourself a favor and get your butt over there RIGHT NOW.

Such a cute coffee shop! Such a homey feeling upon entering, the decor is fun including the furniture. Part of the space is a bookstore with cool gifts to buy. Great natural lighting especially when I visited on a Monday afternoon in December as the sunlight filled the room. Lots of space to study or do work. I think it's also a great place for a date or light conversation. The coffee smelled good but I didn't get a drink because I'm not into coffee. However, I indulged in their fair trade chocolate, which was fair price and tasty. Restrooms were clean, friendly staff, what more can I ask for?!

A friend of mine, who lives in Omaha, told me about this place, since it as her favorite spot to get coffee from. I would always compare small coffee shops to the mega Starbucks and Urban Abbey was a pleasant surprise. It felt like a Starbucks, but in a more earthly, mom and pop environment too. Located in downtown Omaha, I was here after getting lunch @ the Wheatfields restaurant in the Old Market area. I was in Omaha to run the 2012 Omaha Marathon and it was a good weekend. Urban Abbey didn't foot the bill as a premium coffee outlet, but the ambiance was almost prefect, yet subtle. The service I recorded was above averag, instead of the usual drone of Starbucks in my daily life. They have places to sit down to enjoy your drink. They also have a display case filled with sweets, which a portion of the proceeds are donated to charity. I bought a mint brownie and it as good! Recommended! The service was wonderful and I would totally come back to Omaha and visit this plac again. They also have a mini book store in the back, so that is a pleasant surprise. Sort of like your Barnes and Nobles in a way. There is parking adjacent to the building, so you can hop in and out of your car at your leisure. This plac makes me smile. I tried their Ethiopian roast and its different than Starbucks' dark roast. Support local! B+

This little coffee/book shop is located around the corner from where my daughter gets her hair done. I usually walk to UA to get coffee while I'm waiting on her. They are friendly and the coffee and atmosphere is pleasant. Today I tried a barista favorite (Jessica's fav) Lavender Honey Latte. To my surprise it's great! I'll be sure to come back and take my daughter (4 y/o) to check out their cute book nook.

"lucky latte" or a croissant in honor of St.Patrick's day!!

The latte was a little bitter from over oxidation of the espresso, but the croissants as good and flakey. I would recommend this place

Urban Abbey is all around an amazing place to be. When you walk in you see a comfortable dining area, books on books on books, and warm & welcoming faces. The coffee is AMAZING and reasonable priced, and if you're just drinking regular coffee you get free refills. Also!! Every month 10% of their profits go to a different nonprofit organization. They have a worship service Sunday mornings and evenings, and all are welcomed, no matter their race, gender, sexuality, or religion.

This coffee shop has books, comfy seating, free WiFi, and friendly baristas. What more could you ask for? Gentle music in the background. I went on a Monday so there was generally only a couple people. Located in Old Market, parking is by the hour () so definitely keep that in mind if you're going to be there longer than a couple hours to study or read. The baristas here are really friendly and offer lots of seasonal treats. There is currently no rewards program (but if you ask about it, they usually give you a coupon for your next visit!)

Coffee and treats and books?! Only my most very favorite things.

I love that there are still Barnes and Noble bookstores around…read more So many bookstores have closed shop in Omaha over the years, with the eReaders becoming so popular. But sometimes you want to hold a real book in your hands and turn the pages! This Barnes and Noble location is conveniently located in the Oakview Mall area of shops, so it's pretty easy to get to from almost anywhere in Omaha. They also have a Starbucks, which is great if you're there to study or to grab a drink on your way in/out of the shop They have their own eReader too, the Nook tablet. I am a Kindle girl myself, though, so I only come here for actual books and other things when I need them. And they also have more than just books - they also have tons of little gifts, Funko POPs, music in both vinyl and CD, and also are one of the last places that are carrying Criterion movies. That last movie shopping visit is where we recently had an issue, actually. We did a pickup order of a movie that is pretty limited, and they were the only ones that had it in stock. We went to pick up the order and they had grabbed the wrong one (the standard version, not the 4k we ordered). Mistakes happen, but it was pretty disappointing, because it was a gift and of course, with the rarity of the 4k version, it was totally sold out now and we couldn't just swap the mistaken one for the one the person wanted. Like I said, mistakes happen, so I wasn't like enraged by this, just pretty disappointed. I would still recommend this Barnes and Noble bookstore, because it's one of the last places to actually get books (aside from the book aisle at local department stores, but their selection is so limited!!).

I absolutely love this Barnes and Noble! I always try and come to this one when I'm in the area…read moresince it's the closest and the people are super nice!! They almost always have what I'm looking for book wise, and even when they don't, the people are always willing to let me know when they're getting the books in next! Price wise it's a bit expensive but that's usually because I don't just get one or two books normally, I normally get like 5+ at once so the price is a bit on the more expensive side but with their premium rewards I'm able to get a 10% discount on my books which I'm always happy about!!
