Neither of us had been to Foo Dog before but we'd both heard good things so it was an easy decision. It turned out to be a great choice! The vibe is very Indiana Jones inside from the decor to the menu itself. They offer different curries from a variety of cuisines plus some small plates that include vegan options (check out the menu pix). I was very tempted by the Butter Curry Over Fries but decided on the House Special Curry with beef. It was delicious with a great depth of flavor to the curry sauce. Mostly fantastic, one of our favorite neighborhood places. I love the rice a rollies with their sweet and spicy dipping sauce. My husband loves the jackfruit nuggets. We both opted for the wild mushroom noodles, always yummy and enough for multiple meals. Unfortunately, the Autumn rolls are now being made with potato sticks, adding too much salt and little flavor. I'm writing this at 3 AM while eating my leftovers not because I'm hungry but because I couldn't stop thinking about how freaking good my meal was. On my first -- and absolutely not last -- visit to Foo Dog, I went in later in the evening and liked the vibe immediately. It's a bit "hole in the wall" but in a "you could find this on the corner of a big city" way, not in a sketchy way. As someone who tries to eat vegetarian and loves to eat vegan when possible, I was thrilled with the vegan and vegetarian options on the menu (which isn't enormous, nor does it need to be). The employee working up front was awesome and chatted with me about the menu as I openly debated what to go with. He recommended the lime curry, which -- despite being a curry fan -- is a type of curry I'd never had before. I'd seen a few mentions of the crispy jackfruit and got an order of that, too, as I'd only had jackfruit in the form of an imitation pulled pork. The food came out pretty quickly: the jackfruit arrived first and was piping hot. The flavor was really nice with a crispy and well-seasoned coating. Interestingly, while breaded foods usually are pretty rough once they've been refrigerated, I ate the leftovers of these cold and liked them perhaps even more -- the texture of the jackfruit was a bit like a chicken tender (in a good way). I wasn't a fan of the curry ketchup, but that's 100% a personal taste thing, there wasn't anything wrong with it. The even bigger highlight was the lime curry. It was citrusy and coconutty and full of veggies and crisp tofu (but in a different way than the jackfruit). Sometimes, the vegetables in curry get mushy or otherwise a bit "off" to my brain, but these were fantastic. I mentioned liking spiciness, so the employee who took my order brought me some chili oil, which I added a bit of since I was in the mood for some heat (but the curry was great without it). And the serving size was solid in my book; I was definitely satisfied halfway through but still had to force myself to stop because the flavor was so great (and took the rest to go). When I placed my order, I thought "this feels a bit expensive", but I have zero issues with the price after tasting the food and seeing the portion sizes. A couple notes: the restaurant is pretty small, so I wouldn't bring in a big group, and they don't have fountain drinks, which I am totally fine with but know plenty of folks who expect that when dining out. I will be back here whenever I'm in the neighborhood (and will probably go out of my way to visit when I can), and my only debate will be whether to try more of their menu or stick with what was already so delicious. Oh, and I just finished the rest of my curry while finishing this review, and I'm sad already. So at this point, I'll be surprised if I make it a week before going back. read more

Food Dog doesn't have a huge menu, it's big enough and EVERYTHING they do is a masterful fusion of Indian and Asian flavors. They blend sweet, savory and spicy in incredible ways. Tonight I had jackfruit for the first time. It came in the form of nuggets and they were just fantastic. There was a taste and consistency of a sweet, light white meat. It was simultaneously savory and sweet and the curry ketchup was the perfect accent. The Rice-a-Rollie's and Pickled Apple Autumn rolls are standard for us. I ordered online using an app deal. The online menu didn't include drinks or smaller sides or add-ons that their in-store menu does, so to get to the deal, I actually had to just add some plain rice to spend less money. Food was being freshly made when I arrived, and while they were doing 100% takeout business, the restaurant had an array of interesting Asian masks on the walls and football on, so eating in would be a good decision. Their dishes are curry sauces which are vegan by default and you can get a tofu or a fake chicken add-in (or vegetables). I ordered the most interesting option available, a lime curry, and it delivered the bright mix of flavors that I had hoped for. They had some rolls available with a bit of apple in addition to noodles and a protein of choice. The flavors were excellent overall, but the portion size didn't wow me. Cons: Limited seating inside Slightly expensive, all protein costs extra No Pad Thai I happened to really be craving pad Thai on my recent trip and they unfortunately don't serve it, but the guy taking my order was very helpful in recommending which three dishes would be the most similar. I went with the Kanpai Noodle from Japan and added beef. It had a delicious savory smoky flavor. The portion sizes are pretty good, and if you happen not to finish your meal you can pack it up in the environmentally friendly cardboard packaging it's served in and take it home for later. The Jackfruit... the reason for 1 of the stars. 1/2 for the premises. Jackfruit was fresh and crisp. It was as many mentioned waaaay too salty. Like barely eat it salty. The sauce was completely flavorless. I have no idea what it was but it was basically pointless. Got some sriracha to help it out that was better. Salty Sriracha flavor. Meh. I have also had the crab balls. This could be stellar. BUT it is NOT. Not even semi-stellar. They are completely flavorless but for salt. Not as much as the jackfruit but some. The sauce provided was unidentifiable but also mostly flavorless. I was totally disappointed with the crab balls. Jap Chae. SO this is NOT Jap Chae. Not even close. Not even on the same planet as Jap Chae. What did I get? A box of glass noodles, with a few veggies, so totally soaked in soy sauce that the noodles are literally black. Look. Soy Sauce is an ingredient, not a stand alone sauce. The flavor is horrible, sooo salty plain dripping soy sauce. Disgusting. Truly. Couldnt fix it by adding ingredients at home as the soy was just overwhelming to the point of nausea. What a waste of $35 the food went in the trash. Sad. read more

I ordered the ginger mushroom noodles but the only flavor was salt and loads of pepper!! I'll typically eat just about anything because I hate wasting food, but was pretty upset I couldn't even finish eating my lunch. Way too much salt/soy sauce and an intense, overpowering pepper taste. This restaurant fulfilled my service, food, and atmosphere checklist! The girl that was running the register was so sweet to go over the menu with me, pointing out popular and personal favorite dishes. She even offered me a cup of water while I waited for my mom to join me. It was a little pricey for lunch, but I would come back. The zucchini fritters are a definite mist, and it was amazing to see how they turned zoodles into a light, crispy appetizer. For entrees, we recommend the lightly spicy House Special Chicken Curry and the Chicken and Spinach Marsala, not as spicy. There is plenty for leftovers!!!
