I attended an event at Bold Bean Riverside in the same building & easily talked my friend into grabbing a bite afterward. Neither of us had been to Foo Dog before but we'd both heard good things so it was an easy decision. It turned out to be a great choice! The vibe is very Indiana Jones inside from the decor to the menu itself. They offer different curries from a variety of cuisines plus some small plates that include vegan options (check out the menu pix). I was very tempted by the Butter Curry Over Fries but decided on the House Special Curry with beef. It was delicious with a great depth of flavor to the curry sauce. I was pleasantly surprised by portion size, especially the fact that the rice accounted for less than half of the volume. I was very happy to enjoy my leftovers the next day for lunch.
I really appreciate how simple the menu is, and I enjoy the variety of cuisines it offers! The flavors are fantastic, and the portions are generous. My favorite dish is the Buddha's Korma. The staff is very accommodating and welcoming, which adds to the experience. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, making it a perfect spot to explore Five Points! Overall, it's a wonderful place that I highly recommend!
I'm writing this at 3 AM while eating my leftovers not because I'm hungry but because I couldn't stop thinking about how freaking good my meal was. On my first -- and absolutely not last -- visit to Foo Dog, I went in later in the evening and liked the vibe immediately. It's a bit "hole in the wall" but in a "you could find this on the corner of a big city" way, not in a sketchy way. As someone who tries to eat vegetarian and loves to eat vegan when possible, I was thrilled with the vegan and vegetarian options on the menu (which isn't enormous, nor does it need to be). The employee working up front was awesome and chatted with me about the menu as I openly debated what to go with. He recommended the lime curry, which -- despite being a curry fan -- is a type of curry I'd never had before. I'd seen a few mentions of the crispy jackfruit and got an order of that, too, as I'd only had jackfruit in the form of an imitation pulled pork. The food came out pretty quickly: the jackfruit arrived first and was piping hot. The flavor was really nice with a crispy and well-seasoned coating. Interestingly, while breaded foods usually are pretty rough once they've been refrigerated, I ate the leftovers of these cold and liked them perhaps even more -- the texture of the jackfruit was a bit like a chicken tender (in a good way). I wasn't a fan of the curry ketchup, but that's 100% a personal taste thing, there wasn't anything wrong with it. The even bigger highlight was the lime curry. It was citrusy and coconutty and full of veggies and crisp tofu (but in a different way than the jackfruit). Sometimes, the vegetables in curry get mushy or otherwise a bit "off" to my brain, but these were fantastic. I mentioned liking spiciness, so the employee who took my order brought me some chili oil, which I added a bit of since I was in the mood for some heat (but the curry was great without it). And the serving size was solid in my book; I was definitely satisfied halfway through but still had to force myself to stop because the flavor was so great (and took the rest to go). When I placed my order, I thought "this feels a bit expensive", but I have zero issues with the price after tasting the food and seeing the portion sizes. A couple notes: the restaurant is pretty small, so I wouldn't bring in a big group, and they don't have fountain drinks, which I am totally fine with but know plenty of folks who expect that when dining out. I will be back here whenever I'm in the neighborhood (and will probably go out of my way to visit when I can), and my only debate will be whether to try more of their menu or stick with what was already so delicious. Oh, and I just finished the rest of my curry while finishing this review, and I'm sad already. So at this point, I'll be surprised if I make it a week before going back.
This is THE place to go for curry and non curry dishes. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian or a carnivore, FDCT has an option for you. On todays visit we ordered the samosa, vegan pop corn chicken, lion city lily, and the lime curry. Never a bad meal. Highly recommended.
Stopped in to grab some lunch randomly since it was next door to the coffee shop I was headed to. Was pleasantly surprised for a great meal and peaceful ambiance! Normally I look at reviews here before deciding on where to eat but came for the convenience. I had the Japanese wild mushroom and ginger noodles. Sauce was light but savory. Plenty of mushrooms on a generous serving of noodles. I only was able to eat half before full. Service from Bethany was fantastic, she had a to go box ready for me at the counter when I was about to ask! She also brought out homemade chili oil and kimchi hot sauces to try. I prefer the kimchi one and it has a good kick! Definitely would come back when in Jax!
I ordered online using an app deal. The online menu didn't include drinks or smaller sides or add-ons that their in-store menu does, so to get to the deal, I actually had to just add some plain rice to spend less money. Food was being freshly made when I arrived, and while they were doing 100% takeout business, the restaurant had an array of interesting Asian masks on the walls and football on, so eating in would be a good decision. Their dishes are curry sauces which are vegan by default and you can get a tofu or a fake chicken add-in (or vegetables). I ordered the most interesting option available, a lime curry, and it delivered the bright mix of flavors that I had hoped for. They had some rolls available with a bit of apple in addition to noodles and a protein of choice. The flavors were excellent overall, but the portion size didn't wow me. I would definitely be happy to come back as they had many other interesting menu options.
I've been going to Food Dog Curry Traders for carry out for about two years, and it's a huge win every time. The food is divine, the staff extremely friendly, service quick and sooner or later I have to make time to eat in. The whole attitude and decor is just a Zen experience. Food Dog doesn't have a huge menu, it's big enough and EVERYTHING they do is a masterful fusion of Indian and Asian flavors. They blend sweet, savory and spicy in incredible ways. Tonight I had jackfruit for the first time. It came in the form of nuggets and they were just fantastic. There was a taste and consistency of a sweet, light white meat. It was simultaneously savory and sweet and the curry ketchup was the perfect accent. The Rice-a-Rollie's and Pickled Apple Autumn rolls are standard for us. I highly suggest you try this place out and I suggest you try something different every time. You'll always be glad you did.
Ok 5/5 for the Wild Ginger and Mushroom Noodles!!! It's my fav noodle dish ever. The noodles are perfectly cooked & seasoned and the ratio of noodles to veggies is spot on. They are neither dry nor drowning in sauce. They also taste bomb leftover. Reasonable price, can sit inside or on the side walk there is a couple of chairs. I'm not a curry person but my friends love their curry too! Best noodles in jax!
I literally could eat here everyday! A must try if you love curry. Everything was so delicious. If you have a curry craving this is the place. And if you're gluten free everything is so no worries here. Can't wait to come back & try something else.
We felt completely confident eating here with gluten and dairy allergy. Bethany was knowledgeable and ready to help at all times! The popcorn chicken was so crispy and not heavy at all, you could really pop them one after another they were so tasty and addicting. The rice a roll was crispy as well with a very flavorful inside filling. Kanpai is a good savory flavor and green curry is mild and satisfying.
We ordered from this place one night to bring back to the hotel and it was pretty good! We're vegetarian so it was a perfect fit! We did street parking to pick it up. The bowl was okay and seemed to be lacking in flavor a little bit BUT the apple spring rolls were absolutely amazing!! So freaking good! The walls had some cool decorations on them and the staff were friendly. I would go back for the spring rolls alone!
Now that we live in riverside we decided to walk down to Foo Dog as I was craving Indian. Quick service and a yummy dinner again this visit. I like my Indian to be spicy so she gave me a spicy oil and kimchi to try. The kimchi was very good!!
Sat down to eat after five hours of driving. Absolutely delicious and all gluten free. Got the Chinese Fried Rice and it was steaming hot out of the kitchen. House made chili oil was the best part of the meal. Would come again.
I have loved this place for years. Moved away from Jax for a bit but so happy Foo Dog never left! I missed the wonderfully seasoned curries and phenomenal vegan options they have. Back in 2018 when I first tried it I was blown away. The vegan options were ahead of their time. Cute shop, great ambiance. I just wanted to update my review to say that we had an issue with our food for the first time ever (and we have an addiction). I emailed kind of like yelling into the abyss bc I didn't want to change my review of this place as ever since I discovered it nearly 3 years ago (my fiance many years before), we have been obsessed and have never had an issue. To my surprise the owner replied to my email and made it right. It feels rare to have a restaurant owner apologize these days so I'll certainly never stop going here so long as we live in Jax! Keep being delish, fun, and respectful, foo dog! It is always clean, always delish! Plenty of room to sit inside. Cute tables outside as well. Be sure to get your next take out night from here! Mostly fantastic, one of our favorite neighborhood places. I love the rice a rollies with their sweet and spicy dipping sauce. My husband loves the jackfruit nuggets. We both opted for the wild mushroom noodles, always yummy and enough for multiple meals. Unfortunately, the Autumn rolls are now being made with potato sticks, adding too much salt and little flavor. They used to be my favorite but I will be sadly skipping them now. Ordering online with any food delivery app makes it easy and food is made quickly. read more

I've been enjoying the vibe at Foo Dog ever since it opened a few years ago, so it seems the proper time to give a review. Foo Dog Curry Traders is tucked away in a cozy brick building in the heart of Riverside. They are a counter-service restaurant with tasty rice and noodle offerings inspired by many different Asian cultures. Pros: Nice variety of flavors available Good gluten free options Can add protein of your choice Nice decor- their mask collection is impressive Convenient location Round chopsticks- no splinters! Cons: Limited seating inside Slightly expensive, all protein costs extra No Pad Thai I happened to really be craving pad Thai on my recent trip and they unfortunately don't serve it, but the guy taking my order was very helpful in recommending which three dishes would be the most similar. I went with the Kanpai Noodle from Japan and added beef. It had a delicious savory smoky flavor. The portion sizes are pretty good, and if you happen not to finish your meal you can pack it up in the environmentally friendly cardboard packaging it's served in and take it home for later. As you can see the pros clearly outweigh the cons and I don't think you'll regret a trip here to satisfy your Asian curry fix! read more

I called to check on their gluten free menu. They do not have gluten in their kitchen! This made ordering so easy. Those butter curry fries are divine. The atmosphere here is really cool! read more
2 stars since I cannot give 1 1/2. Ordered food to go though Yelp. When I arrived the girl at the counter looked annoyed that I was there. I asked to get the jackfruit nuggets first while I waited if possible. She yells through the window my request in a bored and annoyed tone. The Jackfruit... the reason for 1 of the stars. 1/2 for the premises. Jackfruit was fresh and crisp. It was as many mentioned waaaay too salty. Like barely eat it salty. The sauce was completely flavorless. I have no idea what it was but it was basically pointless. Got some sriracha to help it out that was better. Salty Sriracha flavor. Meh. I have also had the crab balls. This could be stellar. BUT it is NOT. Not even semi-stellar. They are completely flavorless but for salt. Not as much as the jackfruit but some. The sauce provided was unidentifiable but also mostly flavorless. I was totally disappointed with the crab balls. Jap Chae. SO this is NOT Jap Chae. Not even close. Not even on the same planet as Jap Chae. What did I get? A box of glass noodles, with a few veggies, so totally soaked in soy sauce that the noodles are literally black. Look. Soy Sauce is an ingredient, not a stand alone sauce. The flavor is horrible, sooo salty plain dripping soy sauce. Disgusting. Truly. Couldnt fix it by adding ingredients at home as the soy was just overwhelming to the point of nausea. What a waste of $35 the food went in the trash. Sad. read more

So first off let me preface this by saying I've tried the vegan butter chicken over fries and I enjoyed it... Now the reason why I've given a one star is because for whatever reason their fryer is always down when I try to place an order. Once, okay fine. I literally just called and this is probably the fourth occurrence where this has happened. I think I've given up at this point. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with my experience. I walked into the location and the guys in the back were screaming about someone leaving a bowl up on a shelf in the back. Nothing special about the service, my order was taken and my food was brought to me which is fine. My water was filled in the sink that is used for hand washing, which was a little annoying. I ordered the ginger mushroom noodles but the only flavor was salt and loads of pepper!! I'll typically eat just about anything because I hate wasting food, but was pretty upset I couldn't even finish eating my lunch. Way too much salt/soy sauce and an intense, overpowering pepper taste. You can see the crazy amount in my photos. Can't say I'll be back nor will I recommend to my friends. Really quite a let down. Was never asked how I was doing or if my meal was good, and I ended up walking out without anyone even noticing my presence. read more

The most delicious spring rolls! I had the Banh Mi (Pork) Spring Rolls and the taste was amazing. If you are a lover of spring rolls then you must order this for your starter. They can also make the rolls with tofu. For my entree I had the Crispy Cod with green curry. The cod was lightly coated and delicately fried. The combination of coconut milk and poblano pepper for the sauce has a perfect hint of spice. All this over jasmine rice for a tasty and filling treat! The dish can also be served with chicken, pork or tofu. Counter service. Nice relaxing atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. At this time the beverage selection is bottled teas and sodas. read more

This restaurant fulfilled my service, food, and atmosphere checklist! The girl that was running the register was so sweet to go over the menu with me, pointing out popular and personal favorite dishes. She even offered me a cup of water while I waited for my mom to join me. It was a little pricey for lunch, but I would come back. The zucchini fritters are a definite mist, and it was amazing to see how they turned zoodles into a light, crispy appetizer. For entrees, we recommend the lightly spicy House Special Chicken Curry and the Chicken and Spinach Marsala, not as spicy. There is plenty for leftovers!!! Everything is freshly made and presented with love. I am joining the ranks of the Foo Dog lovers!! Parking is street side, but I would recommend turning off Stockton and parking in the neighborhood. Also come around 11:30, when it won't be crowded with a lunch crowd. read more
Great Indian food next to the yoga studio. Welcoming kind service and very interesting decor. Warm and friendly. The tofu with vermicelli was delicious and they cared enough to ask how spicy I wanted it. The potatoes were delicious with the house curry sauce and so were the lentils. What a delight in this community. We really enjoyed our experience there and plan to return. read more
