Found this place by chance when I was looking for a bakery near Ascension St. Vincent's hospital to get some treats for the nursing staff at the hospital. They have good reviews on Yelp as well as Google. They have plenty of parking in the front of the store. I got a dozen of varieties of large donuts for about $40 ($3 each). I also tried their blue berry muffin which is fluffy and not too sweet. I did not know that the bakery is vegan and gluten free until reading some reviews! So, more power to them (wink wink)! The hospital staff enjoyed the doughnuts (based on their smiles and caring for my dad!) The people at the shop is also very nice and friendly! Finally made my way back to Sweet Theory Baking Co and let me say this loud for the people in the back Vegan and gluten free does NOT mean boring. Donuts, cupcakes, cookies, and other baked goods that hit just as hard as any classic bakery. Honestly eating here reminded me that some of the most delicious treats live in the vegan and gluten free lane and I am perfectly fine cruising there. I have been a fan of Sweet Theory for a long time and this visit felt like running into an old friend you have not seen in forever and immediately picking up where you left off. I go on so many culinary adventures around Jacksonville that sometimes I forget to circle back to the places that were there from the beginning. That one is on me. We popped in one our way through town and it was well worth the time! We split a cabana chocolate doughnut and it may have been the best yeasted doughnut I've ever had! Great mix of fluffy and chewy. Searching for a cake that is both dairy-free AND gluten-free in Jacksonville can be a challenge. We had a plethora of options in the Washington DC area, but there were only a handful of options in Jacksonville. I hadn't been to Sweet Theory in decades (since my move away), but all of my friends kept singing its praises. So I knew this was the place to order our wedding cake. Sweet Theory doesn't specialize in wedding cakes, but we dressed up a simple cake with edible flowers and a cake topper (both of which we purchased ourselves). Originally I wanted to use a cake wrap, but unfortunately, the one I ordered had ink that bled and ruined the design. Sweet Theory communicated this issue ahead of time and they were able to add a simple texture to the sides of the cake. Sometimes less is more. The cake came out gorgeous and tasted absolutely delicious! I am really impressed with the kind and helpful staff at Sweet Theory and will definitely use them for future cake purchases in Jacksonville. Yes! My Club Chick was on point and a perfect way to start the morning. Customers were ordering a little bit of everything today and the Yoga pants cupcake is my favorite for sure - but I chose to be good today. The line was to the door per usual but the service was still swift. Honestly, It's like they kept bringing endless goodies from the back and it was just too early for me to binge sweets . I love that they are quick and efficient and the staff will take the time to answer all dietary questions. This a great sweet treat place for my vegan or even non-vegan counterparts. All employees are always super knowledgeable of allergies and able to educate you on what products are safe for you. My best tip is beware this place stays very busy. I feel bad leaving this review, the woman working there was super nice, the items smelled delicious but they had a strange gummy consistency like squishy donuts, 3 of us had to dispose of our donuts all different kind and all 3 of us had the same reaction, the crumb cake was not delicious and unfortunately we had to dispose of all our items. They did seem fresh, just strange consistency and lacking in flavor. But it is a popular place so it seems the local public loves this place and that's all that matters, just wasn't for us. We had a 1st birthday party for my youngest, a few of the families attending have celiac disease, so to make sure all the kids could enjoy the birthday party I ordered from Sweet Theory. It was super easy as I was able to place an order online after reviewing their menu. I received a quote in a timely manner and scheduled a pick up date. I paid for the order in full a few days before the scheduled pick up date. When I arrived the staff had the order ready to go for me and helped me walk everything to the car. I ordered a variety of flavors from: lemon/lavender, vanilla birthday cake, lemon, & chocolate w/ salt Carmel. I was only able to try the smash cake as the cupcakes went so fast!!! I asked the crunchy moms group where to go for gluten free and allergy friendly baked goods and this place had an overwhelming amount of positive responses. Drove up today and I fell in love. The spot is adorable. Rustic, classic feeling. Reminded me of a penny candy store. The desserts- I asked what was gluten free and he said everything in the dome and I about died of happiness. I had never heard of Sweet Theory until last weekend. One of my friends insisted we go in after hanging out next door. I've been on a health kick so I stayed outside while they went in. I love baked goods and Sweet Theory is a name I have heard and read- so when it popped up as the closest bakery when John was craving a cookie (or something sweet)- I clicked directions and found my way over. Now, we both read the sign out front that says vegan-gluten free.... but when you are not vegan, it really doesn't register what the implications are. As my other half found out when he grabbed the last maple-bacon donut. I opted for the lemon-lavender cake (which I was saddened the label was wrong- as it read lemon-blueberry) and the strawberry-lavender cake. Before we arrived I had mentioned that we should grab something for John's parents- since we were going to dinner there later- but nothing jumped out at me as something either of them would like. Now- I enjoyed the lemon-lavender cake, but could only eat 2 bites because it was so dense. I was guzzling my iced tea trying to find the moisture the cake had sucked from my entire throat. And even this morning- with my coffee- I am struggling to eat the cake because of how dense it is. John, on the other hand, realized his mistake after taking a bite of his not bacon- maple-bacon donut. OooOOhhhh- it's vegan. It was laughable. In fact- I did laugh. He said he was looking for that sweet to salty ratio and that it was missing with the fake bacon. I suggested an alternative- but he insisted he was good now. He also assumed I didn't like my cake because I only took a couple bites and put it back in the box. I corrected him, but our choices from the bakery leave me feeling this is "ok" instead of great. IF you are vegan or in need of gluten free then I am sure you will rave about this place. I drove 35 min from my house to try their amazing cinnamon buns! I must say the drive was so worth it. A friend posted a picture of the pastries she purchased on Facebook and it made me want to give it a try. When I arrived, they had a ton of Covid safety measures by restricting how many people were inside and where they waited. All employees social distance md wear masks and gloves. I purchased 2 cinnamon buns and 2 donuts, a homer and a maple bacon. They were all freshly baked, soft and delicious. I was so excited and the fact that it vegan made with wholesome ingredients. Sweet Theory was such a pleasant surprise! We visited a couple weeks back and the store had protocols and measures in store to keep staff and customers safe during the pandemic. Even with a mask on the staff was friendly and smiling. You can tell in the eyes. The store itself still has a nice atmosphere even with the seats stacked and instructions for where to stand six feet apart. My wife and I ordered a donut each, a double down biscuit sandwich (Biscuit with White Bean Sausage, Earth Balance and Coconut Bacon), and an iced coffee. Each item was superb! My biscuit was very tasty and I couldn't tell and didn't care that it was vegan. My donut, a simple chocolate glaze, was amazing. I made sure to try and slow down while eating it because I wanted it to last. Some items may seem a little pricey, but the quality is so high that you will understand after the first bite.
