Drove past this bakery on my home to Jacksonville and had to stop and give it a try. The customer service was AMAZING!! The kind person inside explained to me what a few baked items were and did it with a smile. Order some steamed buns ( 2 small ones and 2 bigger ones) and treats (they were as soft as angel food cake and tasted delicious) and was so pleased with all my treats. I now wish I lived closer. There's added additional parking that was MUCH needed. Additional parking is located next to the back side of the building. They also have a variety of frozen lumpia which is priced very reasonably. The frozen lumpia was the reason for my last visit here. Picked up a couple pork skewers when checking out that were quite pricey. At least it was tasty. The lumpia aren't rolled as tightly as the vendor that I get them from on the Northside, but this location is much closer to home. read more

It's not the best location for me but even with such a small foot print, that have a lot to offer. A freezer section has Filipino ice cream and other treats to take home - both sweet and savory. A small grocery section has some staples of pancit noodles, snacks, and canned goods. I think the big draw here for the locals is the hot bar which has some favorites for those that are accustomed to the offerings as well as the adventurous who are not familiar with the fare. They even have a small bakery section which just adds to the appeal. My only critique is they have a sign advertising halo halo which is an ice treat consisting of shave ice, condensed milk, and various toppings including ube ice cream - but it appears they haven't really offered it as an option in quite some time. read more

So happy! This place is the best filipino store in Jax. The bakery makes it even higher than Mike's Cell. Prices are extremely affordable. Baked siopao was $1.40 and small steamed ones were 90 cents. The flavors were chicken or beef. They also have squid jerky which is something more Americans should try. Don't smell it. Just eat it. They also sell lumpia. I think she said that there were 50 medium sized ones in the package. They serve lunch and I need to go back for it. I went right before they closed and was so happy with all the variety of choices. A&D has been on my bucket list for a few years. I knew we needed to get there early but we were in the area, and arrived shortly after 3pm on a Tuesday. Not very much was left, but what we did get - pork and chicken siopao, and a meat skewer- was delicious. A&D is still on my bucket list because I need to get there at noon to experience more of their menu. We did buy some Boy Bawang snacks (flavored corn nuts). After all the hype we have heard about this place after moving here from the Philippines, not so impressed. Maybe because, our expectations were too high. You would think that since there Pinoys apparently running the shop, the foods would be very authentic? This was not the case, in that there was a dramatic difference in one food that is a daily staple to many Filipinos. PANDESAL! Why is it so hard to make authentic looking and tasting PANDESAL? Yours is yellow? And sweeter than any I have ever had. Your Empanadas were very nice, a little pricey for something that doesn't require any imported ingredients! One of the dishes that I always get is binagoongan. If you've had adobo, it's similar but I think it's extra flavorful. I prefer the brown version rather than the pink version (IYKYK). My family has been going to A & D Manila Bakery for all our Filipino Food needs since we moved to the area. Their food is always good and is as authentic as it can get, so we always grab some entrees there if we get too lazy to cook at home. The most appealing part to me is the desserts that they sell, often Goldilocks or Red Ribbon brand. They also sell a variety of Filipino food products inside. The parking lot is tiny and it can get packed around meal times on the weekend, but service is so fast that you should be in and out within a few minutes! Being that it's located so close to home, this is one of my go-to spots when I need a fast filipino food fix. Granted, the offerings are nowhere near as good as moms, but the portions are generous and the food as well as their baked goods are fresh and tasty, so this place serves as a viable substitute. It's a take-out joint, so don't come here expecting a dine-in experience. It's pick what you want, get what you want, and go. But each time I've paid this place a visit, the service was friendly, and the guy (owner?) didn't mind answering my "what's this?" and "what's that?" questions. Food: Combo Plate, which is two food choices, served with 2 scoops of white rice. My faves are the beef stew (beef, carrots, potatoes in a tomato-based sauce) and the pancit (rice noodles with pork, cabbage, carrots, and green beans). When pancit isn't offered that day, I go with the fried battered pork chop. This is some yummy grub, Yeeps. Even if you've never had filipino food before, don't be shy to ask about the different dishes. They're more than happy to describe not only the ingredients but the flavor profile of each dish! I also grab mom some sinigang (stew flavored with a tamarind base with eggplant, okra, pork, fish sauce and tomatoes) while I'm there when I want to surprise her with dinner. Baked Goods: I like the mocha roll and the butter and cheese ensemada the best, but they also have steamed and baked siopau (barbequed pork bun) which are also both very good. Wrap-Up: This joint is located in the Orange Park area, on 103rd street (inside the Publix Shopping Center, on the far left side, next to the corner store). I catered from here before, the staff is nice and friendly. I love their sweet buns the prepackaged in red bean and taro flavors. They also serve Filipino food lunch or dinner, they offer different dish every week. Such as Asian styled cabbage, soup, roiasted pork erc. There are some tables and chairs out but the space is very limited since the place is not very big. I love how everything is made and baked freshly here. The pancit is good, but I would like more cabbage and chicken in it. The bbq chicken on the sticks are good too, but require dipping sauce because the meat is a lillte bland. My significant other has introduced me to enough Filipino food that I now watch out for it. We're very rarely on the west side of Jax, so when an errand put us in Orange Park, we decided to head just a little further north, and check out A & D Bakery. As others have mentioned, parking is very limited, so bring your small car, and some patience. The store is somewhat small as well, and it was hopping today. There were at least 12 customers when we were there, but the center is a bit more open so it didn't feel tight. There is room to dine in, but not very much, and there was someone giving it a try when we were there. Probably better to get things to go here. You can stock up on cooking and baking supplies, as well as partake in an assortment of baked good, and filipino-style entrees from their kitchen. I found myself fascinated with the color of the desserts. It was a bit early for lunch so we didn't partake of their entrees, but I did observe pancit and kare-kare among other items. I also spied packages lumpia in the freezer, which I can definitely imagine returning to try. We got some ingredients for home (longanisa, vinegar, coconut milk, etc.), as well sweet buns, and a pair of savory buns with a chicken filling. This was a nice find. Randomly decided to try this place out after passing by it so many times. I came on a Saturday or Sunday and parking lot was packed. The lot is small, everyone is hangry so come prepared. When you walk in, you see some packaged food to your left kinda like a small grocery store and some refrigerated items to the right. Straight ahead at the counter is cafeteria style with maybe a dozen options. I'm not Filipino so I was super lost and may or may not have been watching the regulars order so I can copy them. After a few minutes of studying them, I got a combo box. I got pancit which are the Filipino noodles, I got a veggie dish with bittermelon and their crispy pork dish. The lady behind the counter was super nice and patient with me and she explained everything I was questioning since clearly I was lost. I was tempted to get their fried fish but after spotting the BBQ a lady just brought out, it was clear I had to get 5 pieces. Why 5? No idea. Impulsive hunger. They also had some desserts at the counter which seemed to be selling out quickly. The BBQ supposedly goes fast too which is not shocking because it was delicious. It was the best thing I got and was still amazing as leftovers. Will definitely come back to try their fish and of course get more BBQ. read more

Since moving to Jacksonville almost a year ago, this is the best place to go to if you're craving Filipino food. I can pretty much make everything they serve on their hot bar, but on the days I don't want to cook, this is my go to spot! Come early when everything is fresh! The first time I came here was around 2pm on a weekday and I was not impressed, most of the food was gone and they weren't making anymore. Then someone told me that I have to go early to get the best choices. Next time I went was about 11am (also on a week day) the this little store was packed (even busier on Saturdays)! Sadly my current city does not have authentic Filipino food. Being married to a Filipina and also having lived in the Philippines for 3 years we both crave authentic Filipino Food. As part of our visit to JAX we added A&D to our list of places to check out. Our first visit was later in the day and they didn't have any food left. We did get some Siopao and they were delicious. We decided to arrive early the next day to ensure we got some of their food to have for lunch and also to take home. We arrived just after 10 and it was already busy with a line nearly out the door. The wife got some fried fish, couple of beef and pork dishes and I got some pork BBQ on a stick. We got back to the hotel and wow were we very pleased. It was like being back in the Philippines and enjoying my Mother-in-Laws home cooking. Thanks JAX Yelpers for helping my find this local Gem! I have been going to this business for more than 15 years, way before they moved to their current location. If you pine for Filipino food, this place is fabulous. They have a variety of comfort food on rotation, with some dishes like lechon kawali and fried tilapia and dinaing na bangus available everyday. One tip: they start putting out lunch at about 1030 or so, and there's a very good chance you will miss out on the more popular dishes if you come in at noon or later. Eating in is probably not a good idea; the space for it is small, too cozy and potentially chaotic if you were expecting a quiet meal. So most people get food to go. And do you miss Filipino style ham--remember The Excellente Brand? Well, they take orders for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year. They have the usual rice, noodles and canned goods. They also have frozen foods and homemade tocino and longaniza. The bakery has breads and rolls which they make in house, but they do not make cakes. The only ones I saw for sale is Goldilocks. This is the only local bakery around Jax thats good.
