Beautiful and amazing bakery, the breads are out this world finally we found a really artisan bakery boutique

St Gabriel Bakery is an excellent bakery near Southside that does both sweet and savory extremely well. While it's located in a fairly industrial part of Jacksonville, once you walk inside, it's like a transformative oasis. Quaint and clean, there is dining inside and well worth it for a true cafe experience. I was there for a Too Good to Go bag and the staff greeted me at the door and gave me a tour of everything they had. Their menu changes often and anything I've tried has always been excellent. We had the Pineapple Upside down cake muffin, the chocolate banana muffin, the apple cinnamon empanada, a beef empanada and I bought a Nutella roll. Everything hit! The chocolate banana bread was impeccable. So moist, so flavorful and balanced. The beef empanada was so flaky and rich. They are just masters of anything dough or bread. This place is a gem, and if you're ever in the area, give them a try. Go as early as possible because many of their delicious goods sell out early. read more

I have had this bakery in my bucket list for a while. I finally had time to stop in. The man, maybe the owner-showed me what to do. You grab a basket with tongs and put what you want in the basket and then go to the register and check out. What a great idea. Everything I purchase was delicious, with the exception of one-it was coated with some kind of icing and the roll was too dense for my liking. The cinnamon roll was the winner for me. The pizza roll and the strawberry croissant were very good as well. They also sell iced coffees, desserts, and sandwiches. They have won me over. Great job. I am looking towards my next visit. Pros:great bakery items, great customer service and cool basket concept. Cons: small parking lot and I got there about the same time the elementary school was letting out. The traffic was heavy. I stopped by St. Gabriel on a Saturday afternoon and was excited to bring my Guatemalan boyfriend here to try some authentic treats he's been searching for around Jacksonville over the past year. We were greeted warmly and even given a quick tour of the bakery. The space is beautifully decorated, and when I asked about it, the owner shared that his mother actually made all of the decorations for the shop, which I thought was a really special touch. After looking around, I ordered a fresh strawberry blackberry smoothie and the burrata caprese open-face sandwich--both were delicious. The smoothie was also surprisingly large, which I appreciated since I took it to go and enjoyed it on the drive home. My boyfriend ordered the roast beef sandwich, and we decided to sit by the window and eat there. He also tried the strawberry lemonade, which had fresh strawberry pieces in it and was really refreshing. Before leaving, we picked up a bag of baked goods to bring home for his family as well. I felt as though the prices were very reasonable here which is much appreciated in this economy. Most local bakeries are a little on the high side - not this one. There is no surprise that this place rates high on the yelp reviews list. Though I haven't had the pleasure of trying a sandwich yet, I stop in often so pick up baked goods. My absolutely favorite is the jalapeño cheddar sourdough load. It's crunchy on the outside, soft and delicate on the inside. Best local sourdough I've had. The setup is delightful. The shop has baskets and tongs that you use to select your items and then they package the items from your basket. The concern is just adorable. Being from CA, this place reminds me of home. The baked goods are delicious with coffee and every time I visit I try something new. Lastly, the family that owns it is so sweet and inviting. I'm glad to see them busy. read more

A month later, we came back, and once again, this bakery did not disappoint. The cases were filled with the most delicious-looking breads, and we ended up sitting in the car with the windows down, enjoying the beautiful weather while sampling a few treats before taking the rest home. This time we tried their campechas, pan de manteca, a volován, a lemon muffin, a pumpkin muffin, and their incredible banana pudding. The sweet gentleman behind the counter told me his mother makes the pudding, and she is clearly gifted. It might honestly be the best banana pudding I've ever had. I'm so grateful this bakery is close to our dog groomer, because it's quickly becoming our little monthly tradition. We left with a bag full of goodies and happy hearts. A truly hidden gem of a bakery. St Gabriel is a Guatemalan Bakery and is family run and owned by hard working people. I visited this place around March of this year where I discovered they were celebrating their 1 Year Anniversary. I wish them many more blessed years to come. Walking inside this bakery, your nostrils and senses are greeted by the aroma of fresh baked goods. It smells so good. And from what I understand, they start baking as early as 4am daily. Each time we have visited this place, we try to at least order or try different items on display. And we have yet to leave disappointed. Come and see for yourself. We have lived in Florida 5 yrs and have struggled to find real bread we want a very crusty exterior and a very big sourdough flavor and San Gabriel hits the mark. They also have a great selection of sweet & savory breads and rolls they even came out and gave us a tour and explanation of each we loved the Gouda Rolls and Apple Empanadas . They also have a selection of Foccacia bread,but do have a look at their croissant pastries on the front counter OMG! They also make sandwiches which we will try on our next trip back to restock our bread situation and there is a nice sitting area to enjoy your purchases if you desire. read more

This was a surprise visit. We are having a family dinner tonight and wanted to get something extra special. St. Gabriel' s bakery fit the bill. It had the sweet and savory eats inside. Small but homely, this bakery offers exotic and simple from apple muffins to small pineapple upside down cakes. The owner and cashier spotted me and ask if I wanted a tour. I chuckled because the bakery is but oh so big. I got a little basket that was super cute like for a picnic but smaller. There were bake goods for eating which were the savory like I mention earlier i.e like a pizza bread. However, I came for the sweets. This is not an ordinary bakery in that you will not find doughnuts or coffee rolls. I wanted something different. Simply put differentand special was what I received. I asked if they could have a box for my baked good but I got a nice shopping bag instead. I might have to bring the Mrs. To St Gab's aka St Gabiel's for a hot cup of Java and a little taste of St. Gabriel's. Hubby & I finally had a chance to stop by this cute little bakery before and after our daughter's soccer game. Everything looked so yummy and it smelled fantastic in there! We were promptly greeted by one of the son's and asked if it was our first time visiting which I said yes. He immediately stopped what he was doing and showed us ALL the items they were offering that day. This was exceptional customer service and I was so surprised he took the time to explain each baked item. The breads and pastries are displayed in trays on the table & shelf. You grab a basket & tongs and select the items you want and fill your basket. Some of the items we purchased included the Brazilian Cheese Bread, Gusanito, Campechana with Nutella, Orange Bread, Cookie Croissant, Strawberry Cheese Buns and I couldn't turn down the Banana Muffin & Nutella Cookie which was hot out of the oven. Absolutely in love with this cute bakery! We learned they make traditional Guatemalean breads and have expanded to other types of breads and pastries recently. The bakery today wasnt as stocked as I saw online but there was still a decent selection. I love that you can put your breads in a small basket that they will package once you check out. Its not very large in size so I wouldn't expect to be able to sit and eat there, especially during weekends. Today I selected a gouda bread roll and a blueberry muffin. The gouda bread roll was so good it didnt survive the ride home! The blueberry muffin was pretty good,not as dense as I like my muffins and most of the blueberries had settled to the bottom. Next time I will be trying the foccacia! The owner is very friendly and I love how they decorated for fall. I will be back soon! read more

Everyone here was so lovely! I walked in and was immediately greeted with kindness. I had never been here before, which may have been noticeable, so the staff gave me a wonderful tour. The sourdough bread was made freshly that day and it tasted so darn good. Their focaccias are out of this world! The potato, ham, cheese, and bacon in the bread is such a good duo to have in the mornings for breakfast. The pineapple upside down cake was amazing too! What a GEM! My DH and I were looking for some homemade sourdough bread, and some friends told us about St. Gabriel Bakery, which is right around the corner from us. It is a family-owned Guatemalan Bakery. We decided to stop by at lunch time on a Wednesday. We were greeted by Donny, who owns the bakery along with his brother Sebastian. Their grandmother was also there on this day... making it a true family affair! Donny took the time to walk us around the variety of breads that were on display on the walls. The variety was incredible! We had originally gone in for just the Sourdough Bread, but we ended up leaving with Orange Cake, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, a Conchita, an Apple Empanada and two different types of Focaccia. Donny was super friendly and informative. You could absolutely tell that he and his brother take great pride in their products, as well they should be - EVERYTHING we brought home was DELICIOUS! The Orange Cake was like a flavorful pound cake, with a delicious top; the Sourdough Bread had such a fabulous flavor and the texture was perfect. As for the Focaccia, we enjoyed both flavors but the Potato, Cheese, Ham & Bacon one was divine! The Pineapple Upside Down Cake was like a little tropical vacation in a bite! We have yet to try the Iced Blueberry Muffin we brought home, but we have no doubt it will be delicious as well. Everything we have tasted so far from St. Gabriel's was exceptional and we are looking forward to our next visit. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! read more

The Volovan Pulled Beef ($3.99) was probably my favorite, and I might get it again. My wife liked the pineapple upside down cake ($4.50) most; I thought there was too much cake for the amount of pineapple. The Campechanas (Nutella; $2.75) was pretty good, but I've tasted better Nutella pastries. We put the Gouda cheese bread ($2.75) in last place, a bit below average. We were there for 9 AM opening, but some of their goods weren't ready yet. They have a bread schedule: sweet breads and loaves by 9 AM, savory at 10:15 (I guess our savories must have been left over from the previous day), and pastries (my favorite thing) and foccacia at 10:45. So I'd probably go after 10:45 if we went again. I might return. If I go back, the garlic bread with bacon in it sounds good, and some like their breakfast omelette sandwich. I also saw they had chocolate flan, something I haven't seen before. read more

Cute and adorable spot for light eats and fresh baked goods. Be aware that there is limited seating inside and outside and restroom is generally not available for customers. Luckily they did allow me to use the restroom but it's not usually open for use (which I do think is odd for an establishment that serves food). However, the overall experience was very pleasant. I ordered hot coffee and the Burrata Tomato sandwich. My friend ordered the Omelette sandwich without ham and we shared halves. A bit expensive for the portion (around $9-$10 each) but very tasty and flavorful. They also provided unlimited coffee since it was so cold that day. I believe it's Colombian coffee. The staff were very friendly and spoke passionately about the baked goods and you can tell they love what they do. read more

My sister didn't want the bread so Donnie was happy to serve her fresh chicken salad on a bed of lettuce. I had been planning to make a stop here for weeks since all the rave on a FB about the place. I'm so glad I finally made it. What a pure gem! We came around 12:30, so there wasn't a ton of inventory left, but we did get to try their Burrata Caprese sandwich and it was amazing! Freshly roasted tomatoes and burrata on their own sourdough with a house made pesto. Literally the most cozy sandwich I've had in a long time. The kind gentleman also gave us a tour of sorts explaining the goodies they had left for the day. I really came for the sourdough, and they were already out of loaves by the time I got there but I didn't leave sad, nor empty handed. This is a small family business, so please be patient with them.
