Strawberry ice cream with Oreo and Reese's (milk base: whole)
Briana N.

This is such a random spot, but I'm not necessarily complaining. You've got the very American feeling ice cream area. But then you've also got the counter selling taiyaki and tteokbokki while Kpop is playing, the walls are decorated with BTS, and they have a self serve ramen station next to Korean drinks. Kind of a one stop shop I guess lol. But I was disappointed to find that they were not selling taiyaki at the time, which is what I really wanted to try. So ice cream it was. Only to then find out they were also out of the yogurt base. So we ended up ordering the whole milk base. While the ice cream came out pretty and delicious, I was not expecting for them to roll it the way they did. Other yelp pictures had indicated it would be in scoops. And the rolls aren't a bad thing but it was in such a small container that it was so hard to eat without making a huge mess.

Rolled Ice Cream

We love to take Fridays to do a family afternoon out and we take turns trying new ice cream places. Today we landed on five Fx and it was great. Quick efficient service and amazing ice cream. We highly recommend the rolled ice cream and the taiyaki.

Where do I start? So this place has a variety of things. Their rolled ice cream is quite unique. It's similar to those rolled ice creams you see on the Internet but they just don't roll it. They mix the toppings in and chop it upm it's very interesting to watch. They also have a wonderful selection of flavors. I'm a huge fan of the lavender.  They also sell tteobokki, a Korean rice cake and fishcake mix. It's similar tasting to what I made when I was first learning to make the dish. I can't say it's amazing, but it's VERY REASONABLY PRICED. I wouldn't bash it. They also sell various kimchi's and even japchae, but I haven't tried those yet. Their taiyaki is made to order and seriously a star of this store. Yes taiyaki is just fish shaped pancakes with a filling, but they're fresh, crispy, and generous with their filling. Would recommend! I would take a pass on the onigiri. The ride is hard and it's probably been in the counter fridge for a couple of days. It's not bad, but I wouldn't get it again.  Everything I've eaten here tends to be on the sweeter side, so if you're into sweeter foods then this place would be for you.  The ambience of this place is less of a cafe and more of a quick service sit down. They have kpop playing on a TV by the door, and decorated with children's coloring pages. Quaint.  To be honest it feels like parents opened this store for their child to try to run a business. Is what I get from it. However, I must say that the food is SO WELL PRICED. I keep coming back because it's such a good deal and they do well with their desserts. I may pass of the savory foods, but the people are calm and nice. Service is fine. Judging service, food, and price this place is well worth it.

a hand holding a waffle cone

Very eclectic sort of place with deceivingly good ice cream! Five FX has great reviews on Yelp which is the main reason I wanted to check it out, and it did not disappoint. You can only choose one flavor at a time with up to 2 sugary candy or fruit toppings. I got Reese's PB cups and m&ms with white chocolate ice cream and it was delicious! The friends I was with all got fruit or Oreos in their ice creams and also really enjoyed. The ice cream was very very creamy and rich and was just (as I said deceivingly) high quality and delicious. Despite the inside being very odd, I will 100% be back for more ice cream!

My wife and I were on that side of town and saw the Five Fx Ice Cream Shop and decided we had to try it. Honestly we were disappointed in the ice cream. I got the apple-banana with a waffle cone. I decided to try it with almond milk (because I'm lactose intolerant). It didn't have much flavor at all. It barely had the banana flavor and tasted zero apple. Tasted real watered down. The waffle cone was good and good flavor. My wife got the lavender ice cream with strawberries and almond milk. She had two bites and said it was very watered down. She didn't even finish it which was a waste of money. Really not sure what we should have gotten. We both felt the decor for the shop was old and didn't have any theme other than maybe Korean. Had some Korean boy band posters on the wall and tv playing Korean boy band videos but couldn't hear the sound. It was just ok and does have potential. Not sure we will be back only because we live way on the other side of town.

The ice cream is good. The interior of the ice cream shop could really use some work.

Mango and coconut ice cream with Nutella Tiyaki
Jenny H.

First time experiencing Tiyaki and it tasted amazing I am a big fan foodie for anything waffle, so this combination between waffle and melted Nutella was delish! The nice Korean lady in the shop was super adorable and made our ice cream by hand; in which, I wasn't aware of them doing that there but it added to the experience as both flavors were what we anticipated Definitely better than a ColdStone ice cream! There were many options of toppings and flavors too! We'll be back for more

Ramen area?

The ice cream was good but the way the signs were was overwhelming. It took a minute to figure things out. You have to tell them sooo many options--ice cream flavor, type of ice cream and then toppings. It would have been so much more helpful if I would have been given a form to choose and fill out. My husband was also overwhelmed with the ordering. I'm glad there was no one else in line or we may have left. They also had what appeared to be a self making ramen area but there was no signage or bowls. The portions were large and it was good but the signage ordering part was a huge turnoff.

Inside

What is going on with this place.. this once used to be the Asian dessert spot to go to. One look inside this place and there is no doubt that it is very much neglected. Menus are handwritten and taped on the wall.. some are hanging on the ceiling.. some items are just scribbled/crossed out if no longer available. I feel like there are post-it notes everywhere. This place looks like the live version of a chicken scratch notepad someone used with personal notes and scribbles all over the place. Nothing is tidy, nothing appears clean, and it's just a big hot mess all over the place. I don't even wanna mention cleanliness. It's quite questionable how they truly keep the place clean. Everything is stained, burnt, greased.. I'll stop there but you get the picture. We only ordered taiyakis today and I have attached a picture of what that looks like. If that isn't the epitome of "we don't care anymore", then I don't know what is. Very surprised this place is still running but maybe because it's the only taiyaki place here. Would not return.

Taro with oreo
Alisa J.

Love this little place - was craving ice cream despite the cold weather but wanted something not so standard for flavors. This place ticked the box with taro! Hubby got coconut which was also tasty. Beware: the small portion is still generous and I couldn't eat more than half as we'd also been out for dinner. The taiyaki also looked and smelled great and I definitely want to try one next time. The ladies working here were also helpful and sweet.

Taro waffle
LaShawn T.

The place isn't that attractive upon entering, but the coconut ice cream was delish. The taro (the only filling made in-house) waffle was also good. I think they need to have more homemade fillings instead of stuff from a can/jar. The server was working solo and did a great job handling customers.

Nutella with Marshmallows and White Chocolate Chips
Sophia V.

I got the Nutella with Marshmallows and White Chocolate chips, and it was delicious. I only got a small but it was huge for a small. The cashier was very nice to us and helped us order. The place is cute, very child-like, so it's perfect for kids. Full of colors and vibrant. We definitely recommend coming here, ITS GREAT!

Tekia H.

I've been to this establishment once before, and it was super busy. This time it was relatively slow. Maybe because it is the dead of winter. Originally, I came here to get the rolled ice cream, but they don't do that here. The ice cream was nice and light. You have an option to pick 2 non fruit choices or 1 fruit choice as a topping. The ice cream was then mixed on the cold stone with your selection of cream base. The ice cream was also served in a waffle cone at no additional cost. Also, available were Taiyaki which are fish shaped pastry with filling in them. I didn't get a chance to try one this time, but I had one in the past here and it was pretty tasty from what I remembered.

Cinnamon/whole milk/marshmallow/Reese's...probably wouldn't go cinnamon again (too much like "red hots" and less like the spice

Ask the Community - Five Fx Ice Cream and Waffles

I can't have dairy, but i'd love to try taiyaki Does anyone know if the taiyaki fillings or batter have dairy in it? Has anyone ever asked if they can be made vegan?

I know they have non dairy fillings. But the batter has eggs for sure.

(As a veg-head, I greatly appreciate this ) The food portions are larger than I thought they'd be. We got a few different things to try... Kuki Butter Latte- coffee is truly bright & flavorful. The sweet cream foam adds the perfect amount of sweetness to top off the caramel drizzle & crushed cookies in the cup. Deviled Egg waffle- now you *know* I had to add avocado to this. It wasn't exactly what I expected. I thought it was going to be more of an egg salad situation & not just sliced pieces of egg. Still flavorful. The spicy mayo isn't as spicy as I thought it was going to be as well. Definitely a "knife & fork" style of eating on this one. Grilled Cheez It, Brah waffle- cheese pull 9/10! A couple of different savory cheeses in this one perfectly pair with the crisp exterior & light sweetness of the waffle. LOVED this! Chicken Sammie waffle- (described by my hubby, as I am a vegetarian & cannot eat this) fried chicken patty is moist, the right amount of thickness, & flavorful. Mayo, pickles, lettuce, & cheddar cheese ratios make this sandwich rather delightful. All in all... great food. Amazing portions for the prices. Healthy, clean options. If you're looking for FAST... this may not be the place for you. In my opinion, no food made quickly ever tasted as good as that which took a little more time. ‍ We will definitely be coming back

Most of us ended up trying their seasonal matcha drink which was a linzer matcha that came with black cherry and a pistachio cold foam. It has a specific taste but I liked it a lot! It's not a mix of flavors I'd normally think of but I ended up finishing my drink which I don't always do, even with matcha drinks. The croissants & bread were fresh and each dish was beautifully plated. I love a dish that both looks good and tastes good and it delivered both. The outdoor patio is covered and a great spot to enjoy your meal if the weather is beautiful and breezy which is was the day we dined here. The inside is also such a cute vibe. Our visit to Biscottis in Jacksonville's Avondale neighborhood managed to do both. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and seated immediately, and the atmosphere had a welcoming energy that made the restaurant feel like a true neighborhood gathering place. Susan ordered the Quiche Lorraine, and after the first bite we both knew it was something special. The crust was delicate and buttery while the filling was rich and perfectly balanced. It was so impressive that we awarded it our Culinary Duo Best of the Best dish recognition, which is something we reserve for truly standout dishes. Peter went in a different direction and ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes with house made white cheddar hash browns. The pancakes were flavorful and comforting, and the hash browns were crispy with bold cheddar flavor that made them impossible to stop eating. Another thing we appreciated was learning that Biscottis carries the Slow Food First Coast Snail of Approval, recognizing restaurants that support sustainable agriculture and local food traditions. The service throughout the visit was cheerful and attentive, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to be there. If you enjoy restaurants that combine great brunch dishes, incredible desserts, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere, Biscottis is definitely worth visiting.

The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

Everything tasted the way you'd expect: just good breakfast food. The hash browns had a crisp top, which is vital for me. The malted waffle stood out the most; I could smell it the second our server walked out of the kitchen with it and I ate the whole thing, even though I frequently split a waffle and take half home for later.
