I'm used to fillets being the size of my hand and these were baby catfish filets. I ordered the Hog wallow fry and because of the fillet sizes I don't think it was worth the full price I paid. First time at this location and will probably be the last due to the RUDENESS of David. I overheard him bark at a customer that a whole fish takes 13-15 minutes to cook when all she was doing is standing there waiting on her order. After waiting 20 minutes (they were not busy), I asked if it would be much longer for our shrimp cocktail and fish basket. I received a similar bark that it's coming and a very nasty look. When I picked up our order, I asked for raw onion. David didn't acknowledge my request so I asked another female employee standing nearby who had made eye contact with me and again received the nasty look and remark "I'm getting it for you" from David. Way too many places to eat in this area to be treated like this so we'll be going elsewhere where our business is appreciated. The food was not great- Onion rings were crispy on the outside but too mushy inside. The hushpuppies are pretty decent too. The fish and shrimp were average though. My husband LOVES catfish, especially blackened. The staff told him "snappy" was just like blackened but it wasn't...at all. The hula poppers were soggy and bland. The restaurant itself is unique. The friendliness is just ok. The Mexican shrimp cocktail is delicious, the fried shrimp is just ok if you're not big on flavor the okra could use a touch of season, the fries are very typical nothing i will crave for, the hush puppies are good, the crab legs are just crab legs, the corn and potatoes that come with the crab legs are so bland no type of seasoning at all which is a let down. We had our hopes up that we had a quality seafood restaurant close to home, but unfortunately we were very disappointed! The gumbo was extremely thick and the flavor just wasn't right, the oysters on the half shell were absolutely disgusting. They were stringy, covered in excrement and 4 of the 12 had shell in them. I have been to this location twice since it opened. The first time i had grilled grouper with veggies and fried okra. Coworkers had snapper, fried shrimp/catfish, and salmon salad. We all enjoyed our meals. The grouper and veggies were fabulous! The okra was a heavier breading than I expected and they were all fried in a couple large lumps. The second time I had the fried oyster salad. The salad is a very generous size and included almonds, craisins , and lots of fresh veggies. The oysters were small but seasoned and cooked well. Went here on a weekday, using a coupon that we get monthly in the mail. Both of us ordered grilled fish, one catfish, one redfish. Dishes came out fairly quickly, don't expect fast food timing. Both fish appeared to be broiled, not grilled. Dining partner liked the catfish, fries, and okra. I thought my redfish was a little overdone but not bad. Personally I wasn't crazy about the red beans and rice side. The 4 large grilled zucchini and squash slices were good. Tried this place with my son for lunch. We both had catfish and Shrimp baskets and were suprised that the food was not greasy at all except the onion rings and that may be due to a soft batter. I will visit again to try the different dishes as the rotating picture of the food items on the wall monitor was appealing that we watched whille eating. The fried oysters had more breading than oyster. I substituted the French fries for squash and zucchini, but I literally only got 5 pieces of vegetable and it tasted only like lemon. The fried catfish was pretty good but was more fishy than other catfish I've had. The best part of the meal was the boiled Cajun shrimp. I couldn't be more disappointed and appalled at this place! I went for the first time with my son, he likes the Catfish and wanted me to experience the place. I ordered the Grouper Po-Boy and was flabbergasted as I thought they forgot to put the meat on it! There are 4 tiny, TINY, VERY THIN pieces of Grouper about a half inch wide and no more than inch and a half long, not enough to reach each side of the bun. They are very thin and spread out on this Hoagie bun such that there is twice the gap between the meat as the meat is wide, so you must take 3 or 4 bites of just bread and lettuce before you are LUCKY enough to get a taste of meat again. The fact that they call this a 'sandwich' changes the meaning of what sandwich used to mean! THIS IS NO SANDWICH!!! The meat is thin and tasteless, frozen, so it really has no taste other than what it picks up on the grill from other things that were cooked with it. It's the biggest farce and ripoff of the public I've ever seen! This sandwich isn't worth $3.00, and they charge over $16 for it with tax! I can't see how they could possibly think this is a good idea and serve this with a straight face! It needs to be taken off the menu or put some damn meat on it! Overall I'm really glad to have Flying Fish in Plano nearby. Normally I can count on acceptable if not great food and lots of it. It's kept clean, the staff works hard, and they get orders done quickly. But today was not a good day for them. I got grilled salmon. The outside was crusty but the inside of the salmon was only half cooked and runny. I'm guessing it had been frozen and wasn't thawed all the way before cooking. The corn on the cob had dark spots in it and shouldn't have been served. The Cole slaw was anemic without a hint of color to be found.
