They were closing in 15 to 20 min when we arrived. They place smelled strongly of pinesol. Not much left in the case which was ok, our favorites were still available. We weren't asked if they were to go or to eat in, they were just boxed up. On the counter at checkout were two tip jars labled men / women who tips better? I think tip jars are inappropriate if you are not receiving a servers wage. Last I knew that was $2.23 per hour plus tips. Using the ploy of who tips better men or women is tacky at best. read more

I got a "Here Comes the Bride" cupcake (almond cupcake with almond icing) from the Flying Cupcake food truck this week. I'm not totally bought in to the whole "gourmet cupcake" thing in general, but you can't deny the power of marketing when you've just laid down $4 for a small piece of cake with a cute name! Price aside, the cupcake came in a sturdy plastic clam shell package which makes it easy to transport. The flavor of the almond cake was good, but the icing was overpoweringly sweet to my tastes. It was a fine cupcake, but nothing to really set it apart except for the cuteness of it. read more

One of my favorite locations. The case is usually fully stocked with a wide variety of flavors for the day. The cupcakes here are truly one of a kind and an Indy original! If you are in the area you must stop here. Try the "lumber jack" if you're a fan of maples and bacon! read more

This little bakery is doing something right in that mixing bowl. Their cupcakes are spot on delicious, moist, flavorful, with just the right amount of icing dolloped on each one. Not only that, they try to cater to different dietary restrictions, offering gluten-free AND vegan cupcakes alike! The only downside to that is that these options are restricted (so far, I've only seen 2 vegan flavors and 1 gluten-free flavor offered; however, the lovely cashier told me that the Illinois St shop offers more variety than the other locations). I had the Vegan Chai and Viva las Vegan cupcake; both were phenomenal. The chai taste was noticeable but not overpowering, and the frosting was soft and subtle. The Viva las Vegan cupcake was fun to look at and eat! Out of all the cupcakes shops I've been to, so far this one has taken the cake (literally). The prices are a bit on the higher side (ranging between $3-4/cupcake); but desserts are indulgences, right? read more

Not a cupcake guy, but my wife is a hot mess about cupcakes. This review is for the location up on 82nd (Keys Crossing area), however, I would think the food is consistent across all of the Flying Cupcakes in town. First timers for this review: My key lime cupcake with the creamy lime filling and incredible icing was hands-down the BEST cupcake I've ever eaten. Thank God I didn't order 2 or 3 of them. I have excellent restraint mechanism regarding food --but-- I say with all sincerity that I would have succumbed to multiple sins against my body. Wife's Red Velvet cupcake was also the best she'd ever had, and it even had chocolate chips inside the velvet cake mix. She is a fan too, needless to say. Both our cupcakes' frostings were insanely delicious and decadent. I will be back for the Key Lime cupcake again, but only after my waist recedes. Cupcakes are large, and frosting is laid on generously. My wife pointed out that the two girls working the counter were not friendly. True, but they may have been coming down from a sugar high, and it was a sunny warm Sunday afternoon. I'll cut them some slack, but it is a fact that honey beats vinegar in the attractiveness department, ladies....... Again-- best ever that I've eaten. End of story. read more

I was in Indianapolis the weekend visiting a friend and had the pleasure of going to 2 branches of this magnificent cup cakery. The first time we went-I bought a Here Comes the Bride cupcake: almond cake with almond butter cream on top. Fresh cake, real icing on top. Albeit a little sweet, but real and so good! My friend bought a Pretty in Pink - strawberry cake with strawberry icing. Such goodness! The strawberry really comes through in the icing. So yummy. So the second time we went, I had to get my own Pretty in Pink :-) The decor is really cute with pretty patterned tables, colorful chairs, and a small but good selection of greeting cards, candles, and small gifts. read more

Best cupcake, or cake for that matter, that I've ever had. I much prefer a chewy chocolate chip cookie to a cupcake any day, but not when it comes to these. My fav is the Red Velvet, with giant, fudgey chocolate chips baked in. And REAL cream cheese frosting that is perfectly tart. They are giant and good for the price. Much better than Gigi's the other cupcake chain in town. Gigi's could be from a grocery store bakery. You won't find anything as moist and flavorful as TFC!!!! read more

I love cake. Like, LOVE cake. so this should be a homerun since they are voted the best in Indy. Right? problem is that I'm usually left wanting something "more." While I love the "here comes the bride" almond cupcake, it's a bit overly crumbly and, like the other cakes, on the pricey side. I've also had the red velvet, and while it's good, the chocolate chips, I think, are just taking something that should be simply good into the gaudy zone since the frosting is so sweet. I've also had the cinnamon one, which is quite good, but not so memorable that I can give a full description. So my staple is the almond one, crumbly and all. I do find myself craving it from time to time, so for that, the recognition is worth making the stop. I do appreciate the shabby chic look inside. It's like you walked into your creative friend's kitchen, I just wish the staff were more like that friend. Like the other reviewers the staff can be a bit snobby. Acting like you are wasting their time. Acting like a snobby hipster is not going to get you all the customers you could or should have. So while I will still get a cake or two from here, I don't go more often mostly due to price. I can get past snobby hipsters, but $3.50 for a cupcake? Really? My two tips to Flying Cupcake: remember the staff can make or break you - make that price worth the experience, and please consider that not everyone lives on the north side. Your cakes are good, but not worth a trek across town. You still get 4 stars from me, but one star is just because of this smart location. I go to this strip for the Rack, but will always tend to also walk away with a cake. read more

Mixed reviews for the Flying Cupcake. If I could score just on cuteness, I'd definitely give the place 10 stars. Nothing matches, but it's all in fun, bright colors. I'd never decorate my house like that, but it's still fun. Cupcakes are okay, but for $3.50 a pop, I'm not going to buy them too frequently. And I've had mixed experiences with the staff -- sometimes friendly, sometimes a bit too focused on other things that they don't pay as much attention to the customer as I'd normally like. P.S. You have to spend $5 to use your credit card. So if you go in for just one cupcake, make sure you have cash -- or be prepared to buy more than one. read more

Absolutely amazing!! The vegan cupcakes are the best cupcakes--vegan or not--I have ever had! The pumpkin one is a tad dry but the rest are outstanding! The sugar cookies are also great, and their safety in regards to COVUD-19 is superb read more

Why other Indianapolis area cupcakeries attempt to compete with Flying Cupcake remains a mystery. These are the cupcakes you've been waiting for. Accept no substitutes. Great flavors, a wide variety every day, and with just the right amount of frosting. It's a good thing I can't walk here because my waistline couldn't handle the temptation. read more

I would give a 5 if the prices were cheaper. They taste great, but they're too expensive. Second best cupcakes in town after Holy Cow. My favorite flavor is Red Velvet Elvis. The staff is always very friendly. read more

The best red velvet cupcakes I've ever had! A fun atmosphere. This is a must visit when I'm in town.

Cupcakes were good. I was disappointed in the coffee, rather the lack of real cream. I'm being picky, but this is a decent little shop with $4 cupcakes. Feels like I shouldn't have been handed a single serve packet of dry creamer. read more

I'm not much of a cupcake person, but it was my wife's birthday, and on a whim, we stopped in. I had an orange cranberry cupcake, and, let me tell you, it was fantastic! Nice and fresh, and the orange marmalade on the icing was a nice touch. The young lady working the counter was personable and friendly, and gave some good recommendations. I'll certainly return...but not TOO often...they're just TOO rich to eat often! :) read more

Extremely over priced for what you get. A TINY cupcake for $3.50? Give me a break! I heard this place used to be reasonably priced but have increased their prices by A LOT. This place is not worth the hype. Go to sweeties in Broadripple for good quality cupcakes that aren't a rip off. read more

So good. So moist. So tasty. So cute. I love flying cupcake cupcakes. Every one I have ever tried has been super tasty. My favorite is the red velvet elvis and I'm salivating just thinkin about them. Love you flying cupcake cupcakes! read more

After paying $30!for 6 cupcakes, the cake was very dry, and the frosting dry and grainy. Do not recommend, and will not be back

Same selection as the downtown local. I'm still not a fan of the flying cupcake. They skimp on the icing and the cupcakes themselves are small. For $2.75, I just expect a bit more. They did manage to bring in the vintage vibe into this strip mall. read more

If this is Indy's #1 cupcake then I'm sorry Indy folks...you guys are missing out. I tried four kinds of cupcakes. The best one was the red velvet Elvis since it has chocolate chips but the frosting was hit overkill with sweetness. This place is definitely no SPRINKLES in Beverly Hills who started the red velvet cupcake trend. read more

Flying Cupcake Bakery has incredibly fresh cupcakes with lots of variety for every taste. They have several central Indiana locations. I went in on a whim for my birthday, presented my ID and my cupcake was free! The service was friendly - I had a great time and would recommend Flying Cupcake to anyone. read more

I truly hope that we visited on an off day and it's not that the cupcake quality is going down. My favorite Red Velvet Elvis was super disappointing. Very dry and almost had a stale...I'm-2-days-old taste. The BF only took a bite of the Razzamatazz, he said it was very dry and didn't taste very good. So disappointing!! read more

So I have been to this location twice... And both times my cupcakes were dry. I normally frequent the mass ave location. Why the difference, I have no idea. But beware. I love their flavors and uniqueness. But twice on stale cupcakes is just upsetting for how much they cost. read more

Owner commented on my review saying it was 'dramatic'. I think its standard practice that if something is gross, disgusting you spit it out. Nothing really 'dramatic' there. I'm not trying to bash this place, I just wasn't impressed. My advice to the business owner would be to not take things personal; not everyone is going to like your products. Tried FCB today and was extremely unimpressed. Literally spit cupcake into trash can. Surprised they are voted #1 in the area. read more

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is the best cupcake I have ever had! I love The Flying Cupcake Bakery!

I have been a loyal customer. I went into your store off of 82nd Dean Rd to purchase some cupcakes for my wife and I. Today is or 15th Wedding Anniversary. At the time I was the only customer in the store. It was around 4:30 pm. There was only one person working behind the counter. She was very helpful to me when in selecting the cupcakes. After I selected my 4 cupcakes another patron came in and she apparently had ordered some cupcakes prior to her coming. Before I could pay for my cupcakes the associate decided to help the lady instead of completing the transaction with me. I felt very disrespected seeing that I was the only one in there before the other patron came in.. I wanted to bring awareness to you so this will not happen to another patron again. Not sure I will ever go back.. read more

I have been to this location a couple of times now. Pretty tasty. I'm not a big fan of frosting so the ratio of cake to frosting is pretty good for me here. On some of the cupcakes, the frosting is way too sweet for me though. I haven't really had any cupcakes that have been stale or too crumbly but I tend to buy half a dozen at a time and they sit in the fridge for a couple of days which can make them dry and I still have enjoyed them. I like that their cupcakes are really dense. My favorites so far are the red velvet (self explanatory), the black bottom (chocolate and cheesecake), and the german chocolate. So far I have not had a problem with customer service like I have read in other reviews. The ladies have always been nice and friendly. I guess the biggest problem for me would be the price per cupcake, especially if you try a new one and you end up not liking it. A half dozen box usually runs me a little over $20. But I end up going back so I must be a glutton for punishment. So I guess I am giving 3 stars because I haven't really tried the other cupcake shops in town so I may change this once I have. read more

Truly defines luxury. In what other country would you feel good about paying $3.5 for 4oz of cooked batter and some icing? That being said this place is wonderful. I cannot say I was 100% original in picking my wife up a Velvet Elvis and Chocolate Covered strawberry cupcake for Valentine's Day. The flavor was amazing and surprisingly moist. You could tell they hadn't been sitting out for days. They were so good that I didn't even get to take a picture to post... kinda sad. I only had one bit of her Velvet Elvis and for someone who isn't wild about red velvet cake it was impressive. The store decor reminds me of a little of Alice in Wonderland with the eccentric touches all around the room. I will be back maybe for a special occasion or to get myself out of the dog house, because $3.5 is a great price for not sleeping on the sofa. read more

The best gluten free cupcake I have ever had! They have vanilla and chocolate! Would love it if they had a specialty flavor, however that vanilla gluten free cupcake is amazing! read more

The cupcakes were okay, they were very dry but the icing was good. We got there and waited 10 minutes for one person in front of us. As soon as we began to order the woman behind the counter wasn't very polite. We ordered, and sat down to eat our cupcakes. The lady behind the counter proceeded to tell us that they close in 10 minutes in a very rude tone. Not happy with the overall experience. read more

I got the Flying Cupcake tin with 6 cupcakes for $30 for my mom for Mother's Day (perfect and easy gift idea). It came with Blueberry Cream Cheese (my favorite), red velvet (close second), Birthday Cake (kind of boring and plain), peanut butter banana (really really good), strawberry (really good too), and "here comes the bride" (also kind of boring and plain). They aren't the prettiest cupcakes I've seen and not super decorative but very very good. Plus huge! I swear every bite gets better and better! read more

Flying Cupcake Bakery - Every single one was amazing - my favorite was the Blueberry cream cheese (middle) - Bakeries Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

I am a big supporter of Flying Cupcake but was quickly disappointed the other day when I went in to pick out my free birthday cupcake-- the company has started a reward program and now only offers the chocolate or vanilla for the free birthday treat. I really wanted a red velvet (love the cream cheese icing), which costs exactly the same as the jumbo vanilla or chocolate ($3.95). Picking up my yearly red velvet birthday cupcake has always been a special treat, so I was totally disappointed when I was limited by this new rule. The cashier was super nice about it, but I am still bummed about the change. read more

hmmmm.....decided to order vegan cupcakes and, since vegan baked goods are so limited, simply asked for a bit of lemon added to the vanilla to give a little boost to the birthday girl. Uh, no, they couldn't do that..... ?? Really? a bakery? "sorry, we would have to have that approved by the owner".......ok, but still said three days wouldn't be enough notice. Dang. read more

The staff is always friendly, and the cupcakes are always delicious. I do wish they had a bit more seating. I know the shop is tiny, but I like taking out-of-town friends here. I would like to catch up over a cupcake in store rather than taking it to-go. read more

AMAZING cupcakes, there's a reason they've been voted best local cupcakes every year in a row (over places like gigis - which isn't local btw)! Red Velvet is easily the BEST! They were featured on Buzfeed for being one of the best cupcake bakeries in the world & for good reason! (So cool) Have never had a bad flavor! (Pretty & Pink & Here Comes the Bride are my other 2 favorites) Love the vintage feel & decorations! Always see amazing special orders from them! Amazing & friendly service! Recommend to every one of my friends & family! read more

Flying Cupcake Bakery - 1 of the special orders! Beautiful!! - Bakeries Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Oh my goodness gracious, yummylicious, if that's even a word, but if it was, it would definitely apply here! We bought several different flavors of cupcakes and one large sugar cookie. The cupcakes were deliciously moist with a generous amount of frosting, and might I say, quite heavenly. We tried the Vanilla Birthday Cake, Chocolate Birthday Cake, Lime in the Coconut, and Peanut Butter Blackout. Everyone enjoyed them immensely! I ate the sugar cookie, also. It was everything a sugar cookie should be, melt in your mouth sugar cookie heaven. I have never been to this bakery before, but I will definitely be back there when we visit Indy in the future. read more

First time trying & it was fantastic. I've seen a lot of their cupcakes from customers using them for cake smash photos at Picture People Studios and they've always looked fantastic, but recently had a customer say thanks by giving me one. It was a chocolate cupcake with raspberry filling and frosting and was honestly the fluffiest cake I've ever had. Light and airy and not too sweet, really great flavor. read more

If you are a cupcake fan, go to Holy Cow Cupcakes. Those are consistently fantastic. Flying cupcake is really hit or miss. I ordered their lemon, salted chocolate caramel, and the hungry lumberjack. Their lemon was a complete winner. The cake was moist and there was great lemon filling with yummy frosting. There wasn't too much or too little of anything. The same can't be said for the other too. The salted chocolate caramel had absolutely no caramel inside. Everything was chocolate and even that had a weird taste to it. Sometimes weird can be good weird. This was not good weird. Then the hungry lumberjack. Dry, dry, dry. I only wish there had been more frosting because each bite needed a lot to compensate for the dryness of the cake. Also, are they using beef jerky instead of bacon? Yikes. It was pretty rough. I would have to say skip this place and keep heading north to Holy Cow. read more

Disappointed, if you are looking for cute cupcakes don't go here. Unfortunately the taste didn't make up the difference.

My mom and I stopped in for a few 'cakes in the midst of our Mom & Daughter weekend together...and well, hm. The decor was adorable. The little pink boxes were too cute. The cupcakes (especially the Red Velvet Elvis) were pretty yummy...the icing was way too sweet on the Lemon Berry Zinger or whatever it was called, but that is a forgivable offense! :) The cupcakes were moist and seemed fresh. My only disappointment was that the girl taking orders and getting the cupcakes wasn't especially friendly. She wasn't even really listening to me, talking to the other employee while I was in mid-sentence. It was my first time here, so I wanted to ask for her recommendation between a couple of flavors...and it just made me feel stupid. I had to start and stop talking like three times. And she didn't even seem to notice, or care. I don't know. I just didn't really feel that impressed with the customer service. One wants to feel listened to. Pretty simple. The people working there kind of gave me a weird uppity vibe. A word of advice: cupcakes taste much sweeter when the person serving them is friendly! :) I'd return and give them another chance...it could have just been an off day or something. read more
