Warning: DO NOT do business with Floor King We had a bad experience with a GC who subbed to Floor King for our floors. Our project was severely mismanaged, resulting in large amounts of money unpaid to many of the subs, including Floor King. I emptied my retirement to pay nearly $40k to Floor King to fully pay the remainder of the amount due them to get our floors finished. As far as I understand it, the GC who went bankrupt, still owes Floor King for *other* projects he did with them. We've tried reaching out to Floor King for some follow-up work (a dog tore up some carpet), and they refuse to do business with us, or help us in any way to get the materials we need to find someone else to do the work, claiming that we owe them money. When asked for more information about how we owe them money, the owner responded with "I'm not going to tell you that information." This is completely unacceptable, and unprofessional. DO NOT trust your business with Floor King. Their reps and owners are quite nasty, hostile, and apparently, are terrible at keeping books. One particular rep of theirs - Brodie Hillegas, is especially nasty and insulting, and can't seem to get out of the way of his own ego. read more

Update: Within hours of this post was contacted by the company and offered a full refund for the product I attempted to return. Giving back two stars for making it right. Original review was one star. Original review: Feeling taken advantage of; baited and switched. TL:DR: Lied about return policy when pushing additional sales. Return policy is not accurately described in documentation. Uninterested in making it right. Do not recommend. I went through Floor King to buy a small quantity of a specific product needed to match my existing flooring during a home update project. Was "counseled" to purchase two cartons instead of one to be safe. Was assured that any unused/unopened cartons could be returned, minus a 25% restocking fee. This return policy was documented on my quote, contract, invoice, and picking sheet. When I attempted to return the second, unused carton my emails went unanswered. Went to the store in person with the carton and was informed that there was a 3 carton return minimum for returns. This was not listed ANYWHERE on the quote, contract, or picking sheet associated with my order and was, of course, never mentioned during the sale. I called the sales manager and he informed me that there was actually a 5 carton minimum (not 3). He "offered" to let me return the single carton but informed me I would have to pay shipping on an assumed 5 carton return, therefore I would actually owe more money than the carton was worth. I explained that this policy was not noted anywhere on the documentation and had not been communicated with me and the sales manager conceded that he would "work with" the sales associate to do better in the future but was wholly uninterested in trying to make things right for me. We were able to stay in budget and got the kinds of carpet we wanted to elevate our space. They were professional and respectful, showed up on time and were absolute pros at the installation, and our install was pretty complex. Unfortunately, we did not have a choice in our floor installer due to our builder having a contract with Floor King. We have had tile in 6 different homes, and this is by far the worst tile job we have ever had. We purposely got rectified tile so that the grout joints could be thin. 2,000 square feet of our home is rectified tile and it is uneven all over with typical 1/4 inch joints. It is incredibly uncomfortable to walk on. Prior to our one year warranty, we complained and they agreed to replacing up to 25 tiles. That is nothing compared to the 2,000 square feet we now have to live in and walk on every day. Incredibly dissapointed. Not only is our main floor tile poorly installed, our bathroom tile in our master is uneven throughout. It's as if they did not float the floor prior to laying down the tile. I could write pages about everything Floor King did wrong but frankly, after spending a year trying to get them to complete the work I already paid for (paid 100% upfront), this review is the last bit of time I'm willing to put into Floor King. No company is perfect, but a good company should be enthusiastic about customer happiness and success. That is not Floor King. They will never follow up with you of their own volition; you will need to call multiple times to address one issue. They do not care if you're happy with the work or not. None of the staff seem to know what the other is doing. No one on their staff takes initiative. They have more excuses than than I have patience. Nothing is ever their fault or their problem. Calling them and hearing "I don't know what to do, you should call X and find out." is not the kind of regular comment I enjoy hearing. The sales staff does not talk to the dispatchers, who don't talk to the installers. Why do I need to play intermediary communicator for Floor King's staff to get anything done? Example: I wanted to change my carpeted stairs into hardwood stairs. I paid someone else to remove the carpet, and paid Floor King to come and install the wood flooring on the stairs. The installer came and did the work, but it was poorly done. There was a particularly badly done stair where the step itself was at a very noticeable incline (it slopes down inward, presenting a tripping hazard). I spent months asking the sales person I worked with to fix it. He constantly tells me it's a problem with the stairs and I should talk to builder (This is ignoring the fact that I've lived in the house for 4 years and there was never a problem with that stair before). Because of that, he says the problem is not the installation, so it's not their problem. But how would he know if he has never seen it in person? He's never followed up after the job was done or even did a post-job walkthrough. Eventually, after months of many phone calls and excuses, he agrees to send someone out to take a look. The inspector comes, takes a look, steps on the stair, and agrees "yeah, this stair needs to be redone". He's there less than 5 minutes and he can tell there's a problem. Floor King finally send an installer, who fixes it in 30 minutes. MONTHS of phone calls trying to get someone to address bad workmanship fixed in THIRTY MINUTES. I guess the stair structure wasn't the problem, was it? This is just one of MANY problems that I spent way too much time trying to address, LONG after I paid Floor King for the work. And guess what? The job was never 100% finished. Their installer forgot to put in reducers on two of my doors that open to outside the house. After more months of calls trying to get this last bit of work done that I paid for, I gave up. If you're paying thousands of dollars for a floor installation, you shouldn't have to pay money AND spend a lot of time trying to get the work you paid for. If you're someone reading this review while doing research on which flooring company to choose, I ask that you read the other reviews here and notice the pattern repeating over and over: poor customer service. When you pay thousands of dollars to buy a new floor, you should not also be buying yourself stress. Austin is a growing city and there are plenty of other flooring installation companies out there. I suggest you look elsewhere and do not go with Floor King. read more

We worked with Katy E. at Floor King as a partnership with our builder, Brohn Homes. While we had a nightmare of a situation with Brohn (read review there), our time at Floor King was the one bright spot. We were going to have a 4-hour design appointment for our new build which sounds like a lot but it really isn't when you have to make a ton of decisions. The folks at Floor King were so patient and informative with the many questions I had as I was doing research before the appointment. During the appointment, Katy was a superstar. I went in with some solid ideas/plans but needed them all priced out. Sometimes something would get priced out and I'd need to change the plan - Katy was really good about helping me execute the vision on our budget. We were both really happy and excited about our final design choices we did with Floor King. Unfortunately, all our time and decisions were for naught as we are no longer working with Brohn. Overall, it was a great experience but there was something that they did that went above and beyond, showing their character. I had to get to a zoom meeting not too long after our appointment was slated to end. Usually, that wouldn't be an issue as we lived really close but it started pouring rain to the point where it was unsafe to drive. Katy and another designer at Floor King actually set me up in a one of the model kitchens so that I could conduct my meeting. My whole team thought I had remodeled my house haha! They really saved the day. Thanks Katy and all the folks over at Floor King for being the one piece of our Brohn experience that was actually efficient, friendly, and enjoyable. read more

I absolutely do not recommend Floor King. I will preface my story by saying the technicians who eventually showed up were expedient, knowledgeable, and professional. In July, 2021 one of the Floor King employees (not one of the two who eventually fixed the problem) came out to pull some carpet into place that gave way from the threshold of one of my bathrooms (this work was under warranty through my condominium's builder). In the process of doing so, he cracked a ceramic tile in the bathroom entrance. He immediately brought it to my attention and assured me someone would be out the next day to fix it. Nobody showed the next day, and I never received a call from Floor King. My husband called and spoke to Cassandra, who said she would reschedule the appointment for the following week. You guessed it - no call and no show. When my husband called Cassandra again, she was very rude and unhelpful. When he asked to speak to her supervisor, she hung up on him. My husband did eventually speak with Cassandra's supervisor (whose name I regretfully don't have), and he assured us someone would be out. NOPE! No call and no show AGAIN! (Keep in mind - this was for a repair that THEIR technician caused!) After much strife, we were finally told to expect someone the morning after Labor Day. When we didn't hear from anyone by 12:15 p.m., we contacted the warranty division of our condominium complex, and THEY finally told us someone would be out by 2:00 p.m. Let me repeat - Cassandra from Floor King never contacted us - rather someone who isn't even a Floor King employee did. We didn't even receive a courtesy call to say the person would be late. Had I not taken it upon myself to contact my warranty division, I have no doubt that this would've been another no call and no show from Floor King. I'm thankful the repair is now finally complete. However, I do not understand how a person like Cassandra can keep her job. With someone like that representing your company Floor King, you will continue to receive negative reviews like this. I will definitely tell people NOT to ever utilize your company. read more

This is the worst experience I have ever had. Floor Kings has changed timelines on us 3 times with no communication, thank goodness for our contractor who has called suppliers directly for accurate information. Initially, this started out as a good experience at the Austin location with flooring options and pricing... little did we know that once we paid the experience would turn to ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE with a total lack of communication by the sales rep and his manager. The flooring and other items we requested were not available by the initial install date, were not available again after we complained AND NOW WE STILL DO NOT KNOW WHERE OUR FLOORING IS AFTER BEING TOLD THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A TRACKING NUMBER. This mistake has been very costly due to delaying our move, change of flights, and added scope to our project from the contractor... throughout the process Floor Kings has done little to go above and beyond to solve our situation COSTING US DEARLY. Communication is key. Even if it's bad news do not leave us hanging or even worse be purposefully vague causing major issues and disrupting our life. read more

We did not directly choose Floor King as our builder AW has a contract with them. We paid a premium for the wood look tile flooring installation. We opted for rectified wood look tiles through the first floor of the home except the bathrooms. We are deeply disappointed - this is the worst tile job I've ever seen with uneven joints, lippage, low grout levels and bad grouting throughout the home. This is in spite of having the builder float the floor prior to installation. The crew has also messed up the 4by4 shower floor tile installation with sharp edges and low grout throughout. It literally cuts into your feet. We have also had an exceptionally bad customer service experience - unwarranted delays, missing work order and miscommunication in the past 7 months. We have been incredibly patient and accommodating but there is a clear lack of professionalism and customer empathy on their end! We finally got a contractor assigned 2 weeks back, but in spite of repeatedly requesting a work schedule, we are frustratingly never given one. We are left guessing when he will turn up next ! We have cancelled many appointments and put things on hold just to have late appointments/no-shows multiple times. It is unfortunate that we have had to resort to emailing the CEO (Kim Wanslow) and the CBO (Kelly Surko) to attempt to get them to take this seriously. read more

We had a $12,000 hardwood and ceramic tile floor installed in a new house through the Georgetown Floor King store. Thresholds were not put in right. They came loose. They put in a backsplash in the kitchen and got grout all over the expensive floor. There was a gouge in the wood floor that was never fixed. Ken Bower led us on, like he was going to fix everything. I hired Floor King to replace all the carpet in my large house after a water damage incident. My insurance paid for part of the carpet replacement and I paid for the rest of the house to get new carpet. Greg at Floor King was amazing every step of the way and went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly and that I was happy. We had several issues with Apache Movers when they moved my furniture out of the rooms so I could get the new carpet (see my review of them on Yelp) and Greg helped fix every single thing the the movers screwed up. I love this new carpet, and I highly recommend Floor King. Great service, great price, great quality of workmanship and great business. read more

Very poor customer service. Stay away from these guys. The sales lady is very grumpy and nobody ever returns phone calls for customer service. We had an install with a stain resistant carpet that developed unremovable stains despite our having professionally cleaned quarterly. Has manufacture warranty but we could not get Floor King to return our calls regarding the Warranty and to even move forward with any additional new carpet which we were willing to pay for. I drove in try to take care of things personally and the lady was very standoffish/condescending and wouldn't even take time to show me new carpet so we could move the ball forward. Absolute nightmare working with Floor King. We paid over $30,000 for hardwood and carpet to be installed in our home. From the beginning, the timelines were messed up, we were told after finally deciding on a hardwood choice that the hardwood we picked was now not available, and on & on. We lost time & money waiting for our flooring to come in. Floor King made our home renovation timeline waaaay behind schedule. And we were told that our carpet was under a 10 year warranty, but when we tried to file a claim we were told we did not qualify. **Update** This company can NOT be trusted. The scratching, chipping, and splintering of the planks and flaking of the finish is a result of consumer-related activities. The lack of proper floor protection is also a contributing factor. The claim presented is considered site related and therefore not covered under warranty. Based on all of the information presented, we respectfully must deny your claim. We bought our house less than a year ago and the floor is already chipping. So far we have more than 22 spots where the laminate flooring is peeling up. We have been trying to work with Floor king to honor their so-called warranty and it has been a nightmare. They will not call you back, after 3 weeks of calling and calling they finally sent someone over to take a look, they then wanted me to sign something that states the floor is not defective and I will have no further action if signed. After I refused and said this floor is defective 22 places that had chips over an inch large in less than 11 months that is defective. They sent someone from the flooring company which I was happy about. Now they said I have to wait another 3 weeks to have yet another inspector come take a look. And wouldn't you know it that guy is set to come out the day after my warranty is up? I do not recommend them at all. read more

While I like our floors, I was extremely unhappy with the customer service at Floor King North. I love to brag on local businesses, but despite the fact that my sales person knew we were unhappy, they didn't change improve their communication skills at all. We used Floor King 7 years ago and our contractor worked with them. Therefore, we only knew we had pretty floors as a result, we had no clue that they don't care about their customers much. So, I went back to Floor King years later to put the same hardwood floors we have downstairs, in our upstairs. Our same sales person was helpful and I quickly selected the product in 1 day and asked to schedule the install ASAP. I had to stay on the sales person to hear back, but he was helpful when we spoke. Once the install was scheduled, we were told we'd receive a call from the dispatcher the day before with an estimated time of arrival and contact. They never called. The morning of, I called and spoke to the dispatcher. They knew nothing, but workers did arrive. The workers (a vendor that Floor King contracts) were great, but they didn't speak much English and I wanted to communicate how to lock our house, since we needed to sleep at a hotel that night. So, I called Floor King's dispatcher back. They said they couldn't tell me who was working on our install and could not reach them, which is insane. I understand hiring outside labor, but I'm paying and trusting Floor King with my empty home overnight. They should know EXACTLY who is in our home and have a contact number. They basically said they couldn't help me and were pretty rude. So, I drove back to my home to lock it up for the night. The next day we thought the workers would come back to finish, but nobody showed up. I called Floor King again and since it was Saturday they said the dispatcher wasn't there and again they couldn't help me. They had no information on who was in our home, why they didn't return or when they would come back. When I asked again, "I don't understand...how do you not know any information" they then said "we can't help you" and HUNG UP ON ME!!! I've been in sales for 20+ years and I've never ever hung up on a client. I was not screaming when this happened, I was merely asking details about a project I was spending close to $10K on. They should be able to inform me on why the project wasn't complete and feedback from the workers on the reason. So, I called my sales person at home. He tracked down details and said that they didn't order enough hardwood, so they now needed to wait for a reorder and reschedule another install to finish the project. Meanwhile, I've scheduled dogs and kids to be out of town to get this project done. This meant we now had to live in a huge mess through the holidays - almost 2 weeks of kids and dogs in a half-done flooring projects and with them still around during an installation. My sales person said he'd help speed up the process, but I always had to call to check in. We would go several days without hearing a word, so I'd have to call the sales person on their cell to check in. Again, if you know a client is in a bad situation, a good sales person would check in often to show they're concerned and working on it. Finally, the finished installation was scheduled. Once again, the dispatcher never called - the day before or day of. So, I called the day of, they couldn't tell me anything. The installer did show, but when he arrived he said the dispatcher didn't give him any instructions. So, I did their job and filled him in. The workers did good work, but C'MON FLOOR KING! Get your act together. When people are spending thousands of dollars allowing workers you hired to enter their home - you should know who's in their home and you should communicate with the outside workers and your clients. While I like our floors, I WILL NOT hire Floor King again and I cannot recommend them to anyone else. I asked my sales person for the names of the owners of Floor King, because if I owned this business, I would want to hear about poor customer service. Surprise, he never replied. I'm sorry, but there's too many hardworking local businesses out there that actually care about their customers, Floor King isn't worth the risk. read more

Anytime I approach spending or investing for that matter into a company, customer service matters. That being said our experience with Kristal was absolutely refreshing for my wife and I. Ken McCauley has been working with my wife and I at doing bedrooms and a hallway in our house and every step of the way has been perfect. He has given us great pricing and managed great scheduling for installation. The guys that do the actual install are very polite and respectful hispanic gentlemen that speak English just fine. Not to mention, they do a top notch job! Perfect every time. I would gladly recommend them to anyone wanting to do flooring. Ask for Ken and I guarantee he will give you a great deal. Unprofessional, difficult to work with, and mediocre work quality. Floor Kings were contracted through The Novack Brothers for the wood flooring in our house. After living in our house for less than 6 months, we had a leak the required the wood floors to be pulled up and replaced. It took Floor Kings 7 visits to finish the replacement over a 4 month span. The workers are pleasant enough but scheduling was extremely difficult and we would have to continuously call to schedule the workers, and when they showed up, often times they did not have to right material to complete the work. Then they used stain from our garage (the wrong color) to complete the job. When we realized what they were doing, we called to have them fix it and they told us "we don't know what color you need" so after we tracked down the color from the manufacturer and told Floor King, they instructed us to go to Sherwin Williams to color match the stain because they didn't have it. I wholeheartedly recommend NOT using this company. read more

Just horrible!! No integrity!! We got our floors done for a 2nd time through Floor King! The whole process was horrible!! The installation was crap, chipped boards, broken boards, gaps in between the boards!! It took 4 different times for them to come fix it and they still didn't get it right!! Then we noticed a bunch of boards have been sliding apart at the sides meaning they are not locked together properly. There are huge gaps in the floorboards, some boards were chipped very badly and it seemed like the installation guys just colored over the chips with a wood crayon to cover up their mess up!! It's just horrible in all areas!! We contacted Floor King since we were still under warranty at the time! They sent someone out here to look at the floors and take photos. We we have several NEST cameras set up we have the guy on video saying how the floors are obviously defected and the installation was a crap job and they would contact us soon to figure out what will be done. Well we never heard back. We have tried calling several times and still they have never tried returning our call. Do NOT use Floor King!! They will not honor the warranty. They will not fix their mess ups, and they will try to cut corners, being sloppy!! It's a good thing our insurance is the one who paid to have the floors done and they will now be contacting Floor King soon for not honoring their warranty!! read more

We were trying to sell our Austin rental house and needed to replace the flooring throughout. After getting two bids from local flooring companies that seemed to be pretty high, our realtor suggested we call Brian Dover at Floor King. We had been in town for 4 days trying to get this resolved and needed to get back home that night. We called Brian in the morning, and he came by the house THAT AFTERNOON with plenty of samples to satisfy our needs.  Brian is very knowledgeable, responsive and helpful...and the price was extremely reasonable. We had new carpet and vinyl planking in our home by the end of the week. And since we were not in town during or after the installation, Brian kept us updated on when the installers were going to be there and even sent us photos of the end result. Seriously, don't hesitate to call Brian at Floor King, you will rest easy knowing he is on it!  BTW - our house was under contract three days later! read more

Rudy Barron was my salesman from the Floor King office on Balcones and 183. He was amazing to work with. Extremely knowledgeable, skilled and professional. Floor King replaced my dated, grubby, mismatched vinyl and tile with a beautiful vinyl floating click tile that looks like hardwood but is more waterproof and durable. (The tiles are not glued to the floor) They put quarter round that was white around all of the edges and walls. The vinyl is beautiful, a dark brown with distressed streaks of lighter colors mixed in. The team of installers was excellent!!! Thorough, friendly and trustworth. They did a fantastic job and I have already recommended then to several people. read more

Floor King works with the builder of my home, Ashton woods. They were supposed to come by today to fix some cracked tiles in my powder room. I left work so I could meet them. THEY.NEVER.SHOWED.UP or bothered to contact me to let me know they'd be unable to perform the repairs today. This is the low of low in professionalism and customer service. Given a choice in selecting a company to help with your flooring needs, I definitely wouldn't choose them! read more

I've been very frustrated with this place. Lack of communication between the sales guys, the people who schedule, and the contractors. Also not especially flexible with customer requests. I told the sales guy what I wanted, supposedly he told the contractor, but then I talk to the contractor and he had no idea and he wouldn't do it. Then sales guy got another guy to come out. He was actually really great, the redeeming grace for this company. We agree on a way to get what I wanted done, but at the moment... it still hasn't been done. I know that they can't help how long orders are delivered from the suppliers, but I've been working with them for over two months now. Through unreturned calls, missed appointments after I've taken off of work, and a job that was done without checking to make sure it was done the way it originally done (we're replacing a damaged floor), I've been a bit annoyed. However, as I said, they did send out one really nice contractor and the sales guy did agree to make it the way I wanted after all this mess. That's the only reason I'm not rating lower. I'm still waiting for it all to come together... and remaining hopeful... and patient. read more

Granted that the woman who answers the phone is not always polite (and we have called numerous times), I have only positive words about the service. Rudy came to our home and measured and placed the order for 1000 sq.ft. of Evans Black carpeting for our second floor. He better than matched two other quotes that we had. He gave us some days inbetween removal and installation to take care of some flooring problems-- which others wanted to charge for. And his movers moved 30 boxes of books from room to room-- which the other firms would charge for. Then he came to our home at our request to check that everything with the installation and seaming was in proper order. We highly recommend the firm. read more

I caught this salesperson in a lie about product availability, which left me driving all around town at the last minute to find substitute material. I also suspect (based on conversations with suppliers) that he inflated the prices he quoted to me, despite telling me he was giving me the lowest possible rate, since we had our own contractor. The store, overall, has a broad selection of tile & carpet - definitely in the role of middle-man between warehouse & consumer. They do not list prices on most items on the show floor. That leads to discrepancies, with the prices quoted to consumers varying by day and by salesperson. This is in contrast with other local tile/carpet stores I visited which did list prices. The store also doesn't keep very convenient hours, closing by 6pm on weeknights (so it's hard to get there after work). read more

We went through a builder so we didn't deal with the first instalation. But we loved our sales rep, Shelby. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. We did have to go thru the customer service to have our floors replaced which was a process but after fighting with the manufacturer, not floor king, it was all figured out and fixed! We are loving our replacement floors so far! read more

I had a leak in my house and it ruined my carpet. Thank Goodness for Mr. Brian Dover. He arrived and took measurements of all the rooms in my house in less than 10 minutes. He reached out with what to expect as the installers arrived and answered all my questions. The installers were swift and did great work. I am so happy with the way my floors turned out. Unfortunately we have had many issues with Floor King (contracted by our builder). They have had to continuously repair their own work. Which means we have had to miss work or set time aside for them to come back on several occasions to "fix" their work. The job still isn't done properly. Grout keeps falling out exposing chipped tiles that were used. It seems spacers should have been used (comments from another company trades). Now we are going to be charged if they have to come out AGAIN to fix their own work. So I'm left here with a backsplash with missing grout, chips in tile, and crumbling grout in my NEW HOME. I will be happy to add more pics to this review if needed. Also willing to give more in depth descriptions of the quality of work done. If reviewers need more info. and pics , just message me. Not happy with my backsplash and other tile work done by Floor King. I'm just confused why a company is not able to properly install tile, when that's what they do. It's obvious there is an issue with the install if they had to keep coming back...and repeat fixes didn't hold (work)...so they just quit and leave it. And then they want to charge us for them to come back AGAIN. I'm just shocked at this kind of customer service. Don't hire this company to lay tile. We have had to get our entire floor replaced twice and it's still not right. The tiles are defective and bowed so they don't form a flat surface. They would not offer a different tile or flooring material, saying we had to stick with what we chose. They suck!!!! read more
