I came here on a Saturday night with my boyfriend, after spending almost 2 hours on yelp looking for the best place to go. I wanted to try something with a good atmosphere (not a dark, barely lit restaurant) and somewhere with outdoor seating. Throughout my 2 hour yelp research, Flatbread kept coming up in the results. It was getting late, so I said why not try this place. We got there around 9:15 (they close at ten) and I was immediately happy to see all the lights inside (I can't stand not being able to see my meal). Everything about the ambiance was perfect: the indoor oven, all the lights, the windows, flowers, music (they had some good throwbacks on when we were there) and cute kids artwork. Our waitress gave us the quick run down since we were newbies. We ordered the garden salad and split a large flatbread, half the community pizza and the other half the pork mopsy pie! Both were delicious! I don't go out of my way to eat organic food, but I could tell this was all very fresh and healthy (especially the salad!) and didn't feel gross after eating the pizza like I do after most pizza meals. Everything about our dinner was great, the prices were totally reasonable, and the beer list was decently long for a pizza place (also we tried their organic beer, totally recommend!) The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars, instead of 5, is because they close at 10:00 on a Saturday night! My boyfriend wanted one more beer, but because the kitchen closed at 10, they couldn't serve him at 10:10. I was really confused why it closed so early... They're located right near Brown and when we drove home on Thayer, it took us double the time it should just because of all the walkers/college students out. We came here with two young toddlers. It's always nerve wracking to dine out with small kids and esp since my daughter has food allergies. This place is nut free and also egg free! The pizza is amazing, thin crust and crispy with the perfect chew. It was seasoned well and devoured by everyone. We got a pepperoni pie and a chicken bacon ranch and both were amazing. The service was also great. The waitress came by and checked on us often, but not overbearing at all. Bathrooms were clean and tidy. We would def come back here if ever in the area! read more

The restaurant was slow so there was no wait and we were greeted and served our drinks promptly. That was the last time we saw our waitress, so someone else delivered our food, got our silverware, cleared our table, brought and processed our check. The waitress had better things to do, such as chat with the hostess. The food was outstanding, however I wanted to vomit it back up when I saw one guy making the pizza dough blow his nose, and the guy adding toppings rubbing his beard and picking his ear, then go right back to making pizzas with bare hands. Great place right off of Thayer! As expected, parking can be tough to find but it is doable if you don't mind the walk. The interior is spacious and they even have an outdoor area. We were seated quickly and the waiter was attentive. They have gluten free and vegan options which is a great addition. Plenty of options for vegetarians as you can customize basically any flatbread. The small pie is perfect for one person. I love how lightweight the bread is! I got the Jay's Heart with jalepeno. So delicious! You have to eat it quick because the dough can get hard quickly so not sure if this would be good for takeout. read more

I got the small nitrate-free pepperoni and mushroom pizza. It was delicious and perfect. I recommend getting a small for one person, or to split a small with a friend, but with a salad. I also got the dynamic lemonade which was great! It said you could also get it hot, but I wanted it cold. Quite delicious! For dessert I split the brownie sunday with a friend. The brownie is very chocolaty and it comes with two scoops of ice cream and two small squirts of whipped cream drizzled with chocolate sauce. It is perfect to split, and the don't mind you splitting it either. The service was good and the wait staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is comfortable, not too loud. You can be in jeans and a t-shirt or dressed up a little and not be out of place either way. Hats off to Flatbreads, a gem wherever they are located. read more

Such a hipster spot! Great for kids! The fire oven is a big entertainment, and they also offer pizza dough for kids to play. Pizza specials are worth checking out. This place is great. Not too greasy, not too salty, and high quality, organic, and non-gmo, locally sourced ingredients make it so that the hubby and I can scarf down an entire pizza together, and still feel like spritely little forest elves when we're done. I wish they would clear trash and debris from vacated tables of other customers that surround me. They really let this go here in a way that feels unnatural. Sometimes I feel like I am a tiny creature in the middle of a giant bus bin which doesn't not make for as pleasant of a dining experience as it otherwise would be. Also, they seat you really oddly, like super far away from the only other occupied table in the place it it feels a bit lonely. We were looking for some good pizza in the area and came across this gem. Looking at the reviews, we were surprised at how many 4 & 5 starts there were, so we had to give it a try. I am now one of the 5 star peeps. This place is fantastic! First, valet parking, so you're not worried about finding a place to dump the sled. Second, the place itself is surprisingly huge, once you get inside, so there's a good chance of getting a table quickly. The place itself is like an old factory, which is very cool and makes for some great atmosphere. Then comes the service. Fantastic. Tom, who's name never changed the entire time we were there, was great. And when he was busy, there was always someone else around to see if everything was OK. We had a pizza, of course, which was cooked to perfection and delicious!! Best we've had in a long time. And it only took like 5 minutes too. Amazing. They use the brick ovens, so the flavor is unbelievable. And that crust.....Awesome!! The beers selection was good, with some decent tap options. The only very minor flaw is no TVs. So don't go there hoping to watch a game, when you're in the dinning area. Not a big deal, just keep it in mind. And finally, the prices. Very reasonable for the area. Large pizza, a few beers and a soda for under $40!! Pretty sweet. This place is now on our list, we will be back. read more

HUGE space! This place feels like a local favorite. They can cater to large parties and it was packed when we went. We were seated on benches in a cute patio outside. Love their idea of placing kids drawings on the front of their menus. We ordered 4 pies and 2 large salads for a table of 8 and we were (fairly) stuffed. The salad was fantastic and a great side to the heavy pizza. Their crust is thin and piled high with toppings. I don't remember which was we got but they were all good. how have I not already given this place a 5 star review?? It's amazing. Their gluten free crust is delicious! They can use separate work stations and everything if you have celiac. They even have gluten free desserts like a brownie sundae!! Haven't tried the desserts yet since I'm always so full for eating my entire pizza but I want to one of these days! Oh and they have vegan cheese! And when you ask to wrap up your leftovers they wrap it in foil instead of a box-- my first server crafted a little foil carrying handle and everything haha! Came here for dinner a couple weeks ago. I wasn't really in the mood to get a lot of toppings on my pizza so I just ordered extra cheese. I'm really glad I got extra cheese as the kids at our table had just regular cheese and it was very light with cheese, almost just sauce (it was still good though). The extra cheese order made a world of difference. It was so good that I ate a whole large by myself and some of the kids pizza. I will definitely be back. If you are on the fence about the cheese quantity, I'd go with extra cheese. read more

Always delicious. It's hard to choose a favorite pizza in Providence. There are so many great pizza options so it says a lot that I often find myself at Flatbread or ordering Flatbread. Their pizzas always taste fresh and delicious. They use organic flour, and mainly organic ingredients. You can get your pizzas gluten free and or vegan. From someone with current dietary restrictions, Flatbread hits the nail on the head. They also have a constantly rotating beer menu if you're into that. There are always like 12 different beers on tap. And their daily specials are always tempting. The size of the place is big and that's a definite plus. Highly recommend! read more

Pros: 1. Great service with a special visit from the handlebar-mustache guy (I need a stache like that) 2. The classic salad is made even better with fresh goat cheese 3. Much of the ingredients are locally sourced from New England 4. Beers are reasonably priced, with Foolproof on tap (local!) 5. We were having a hard time deciding between the gingerbread and brownie desserts, and that's when our server told us we could order 1/2 sizes, score! Cons 1. The greeter asked if we wanted to sit at a table that was a little too "front and center" so I asked if we could sit just one table over and he seriously looked miffed...which was odd as he must have known it wasn't a great table 2. The gingerbread dessert was a little too dry for my taste (the brownie was much better) It's worth your time to make the drive here, and listen intently to their specials as the night we were there they had an eggplant pizza (that we added pepperoni to) that was incredible. We brought home some leftovers which I shall be dining on today for lunch. Note - They have a parking lot which is awesome given that Thayer is terrible for parking, but the spots are razor-thin. Wide open layout, great food, local brews, and good vibes. They use local ingredients to make some pretty darn good pizza. Would you believe that half of their pizzas are made without tomato sauce. Sacrilege?! I had the Jimmy's Free Range Chicken pizza. Essentially a burrito on a pizza crust and it was glorious. And here are the reasons why: -It is gigantic so I didn't have a problem getting a last minute reservation for 11 people on a Saturday night -It is set up perfectly with a mix of low tables, high tables, lots of bar space, and even comfy chairs and books to read in the back -They use all local foods -The pizza is delicious! I am a fan of pizza. I once ate it every day, every meal for two weeks, and I would have kept the streak alive except that my tummy hurt a bit, so I took a day off. I will eat it on a plane, in the rain, in Spain and on a train, so I'm a bit annoyed by the fact that Flatbread insists on referring to their flatbread pizzas as just "flatbreads". However, they taste good, and I try not to sweat the small stuff, so I can't get too worked up about that minor annoyance. I have only ordered off the regular menu once. This is because their specials always sound amazing--and they are. That always leaves me feeling a little manic when I leave, both because I know what I come back the delicious special pizza that I just ate won't be there anymore, but also, how can I been there so many times and not have actually used the menu provided?!? But that's a small concern. It's just good food, all around. Call it Flatbread, call it Pizza, it is delicious, and I would eat it every day if I could afford to. The service is consistently good, with a nice laid back vibe, and last time we were there, we got to sit in front of the big oven and watch people flinging pizzas in and out--dinner and a show for just the price of dinner. The beer list is solid. It rotates just enough that you know there's always going to be something new, but not so much that you can't rely on them to have a favorite. I've been to the Portland Flatbread a couple of times before. It didn't dawn on me when I saw the name "Flatbread" that they were connected and actually part of a small New England chain of restaurants,. Not to worry, though. They might be a chain, but their vibe is that of a locally-owned eatery. Providence is a solid restaurant city--it should be, right, with cooking schools like Johnson & Wales inhabiting the place? Flatbread's vibe is a welcoming one. As soon as we walked in the door, we felt like the staff were glad we decided to visit. First and foremost a pizza place, their two ovens, which workers are constantly feeding flatbreads on giant wooden boards into, occupy one side of the restaurant, Their bar, an extremely long one serving various local beers, is one option, as are a large table area near the front, as well as ample deck seating for warmer weather. The space actually spans a city block. Our server, John (sp?) was attentive, informative, and really enhanced our visit. Part of Flatbread's mission is to utilize local ingredients and support the region's farms and producers. This really makes going out to eat an act that also enhances community-building, not to mention delicious and nutritious food. There are multiple combinations of ingredients you can choose to create your own pizza, both with and without meat. In fact, you can split your small or large pie in half and this increases the opportunity to try different varieties of pizza. The three of us mixed and matched and really savored our pizza-eating experience. I should also mention that they have terrific salads (with mostly organic ingredients), an ample selection of beer and wine, as well as cocktails. Woo! I've been waiting months for this place to open (I love the one in N. Conway). Even on opening day they did not disappoint. Friendly as heck, and who can beat hot lemonade and delicious crispy yet chewy pizza on a snowy day? That pork pie pizza is the best. I feel like Flatbread just APPEARED on Thayer like the black monument appeared in Space Odyssey--suddenly, inexplicably, and unexpectedly. We all saw the construction notices for a while and made bets on what was to come. Frankly, I thought we were looking at new dorms. But man... what a welcomed surprise! Flatbread is seriously the best new addition to Thayer Street since Brown University was founded in 1764. I went for the first time tonight and was absolutely blown away by the massive space spanning from Cushing St. to Meeting St. The feel is laid back and earthy. The bar is MASSIVE and definitely a stand-alone venture irrespective of the pizza. Both the bar and dining areas are PHENOM for large groups. We started with the organic salad with chicken. I was slightly skeptical of the salad at first because it's a bit of a strange mix: organic greens, celery, carrot, sesame, and fennel. The dressing is a house ginger-tamari vinagrette. But oh goddess of organic salads--this is seriously the BEST salad mix in all of Providence, hands down. The chicken was incredibly fresh, home-grown, and hormone-free making it my new fave salad anywhere. Next, we got the Jay's Heart pizza--a basic tomato sauce and mozerella. My husband is a bit of a pizza snob and has developed a bit of a method for judging new pizza: try the plain Jane (or in this case, the plain Jay), and it gives you a baseline for true side by side comparisons of crust, sauce, cheese, and seasoning. Based on our initial taste test, Flatbread totally hits the mark. I love that they make their pizzas super thin, with crunch, and with LOADS of flavor. The sauce is zesty rather than sweet. The olive oil is beautifully admixed with herbs and garlic. I am a HUGE HUGE fan. Flatbread blew my mind tonight--kind of like Space Odyssey when I was in junior high--and I am so glad to have discovered this enchanted mamouth of a pizza joint practically spanning an entire block off the ol' Thayer row. read more

Flatbread is never the first place I think to go for pizza (uhhh... I mean flatbread), beer, or a meeting. But every time I'm there I'm reminded how great it is - particularly for large groups. There's so much space! And such variety of space! Whether your crew is standing around the bar, huddled around a huge table, or cozied in the back nook, it's easy to feel at home at Flatbread, and particularly awesome to host an event there because food is affordable, the beer list is great, and they're super generous supporting community causes. The pizzas really are grand. And so is the salad list. So good! I had tried Flatbread on Martha's Vineyard and loved it. The Providence location does not disappoint. We tried their Carne special - a buffalo chicken flatbread - and it was delicious. 2 days later I got a take out order of a pizza (is that ok to say or is it just "Flatbread"?) and it was also fantastic. I parked in their lot which had plenty of spaces but it was while Brown was on break. I suspect it will be as challenging to visit as other Thayer St venues during normal times. I will happily play the parking game to have more wonderful Flatbread! Service was very attentive and kind and I'm looking forward to going back many times to sample their menu and more of the tasty beers. read more

I so wanted to give a higher star rating. It's a great concept with a great ambiance, super staff, and awesome attitude. A real fun feel-good place! For all those aspects it's 5-star plus! The only problem is we didn't really like the salad or pizza. The salad was a little to vegan-feeling, delicate little greens with too-sweet dressing and a ton of shredded carrot. I'd like something a bit more savory. We had a sausage pizza and a pesto pizza and both were wet (due to the caramelized onions) and again very sweet. The dough is flavorless and there's no wheat crust option. Definitely knife and fork pizza. It's great that they have a bar but boy does the price get out of control quickly because of it. We just went out for pizza and wound up spending $141 for 4 people before the $30 tip. For that money we got 2 weak drinks each (all left sober as judges), we shared 2 basic salads and we had 2 pizzas. We also shared one dessert 4 ways. Be careful! I'll try again. Next time I'll stick to soft drinks and hopefully with time they'll improve the product and they'll have a real winner. I'm rooting for them. read more

This is a super welcome addition to the Providence "pizza" scene. This place is everything I like in a restaurant--cool, laid-back ambiance, inventive and local food, and unusual drinks. Came in on a Friday to grab a bite before a movie--the food was delicious, the service was friendly, and we had enough time to relax and enjoy our salad and flatbread before making the movie right on time. The only problem is that this neighborhood--Thayer and its surrounding environs--is super tricky to park in, but other than that, what a gem! read more

Yes! If you love flatbread pizza, this is the place. I first went here with a group of friends: four moms, three toddlers and one infant. Nightmare, right? With so many kids, the staff was incredibly gracious. They sat us in the back, of course, far far away from the bar, but they gave the kids crayons and floured pizza dough to play with while we sat there. The staff was also so patient when one of the kids lost a toy behind the booth, broke into tears, and furniture had to be moved to retrieve it. So usually when you find a place like this that's so good with kids, it's Chuck-E-Cheese, where the pizza tastes like cardboard with chef boyardee sauce on top. And that's why this is such a treat. The pizza is amazing, with so many choices, including gluten-free and vegan pizza. Something for everyone. And if you don't have kids and want to come here, don't worry. They hide the kids in the back and the place is so huge, there's another space between you and my crying toddler. They also have their own parking lot.
