I love Jamaican food, and it seems like it's a little easier to find around here these days. Flames is a tiny place that mostly does takeout. About 15 unlabeled steam trays were out behind a plastic barrier. Three kinds of rice, a few veggie dishes, and several meat or meat stew options. It was a little hard to guess what was what, and the plastic barrier was fogged up and wet from condensation, so it was difficult to even see clearly. I went with jerk chicken, chicken curry, rice and beans, and something that looked like collard greens, with jerk sauce added to season the rice. Very tasty. The meat was so tender, and flavorful. The jerk sauce had a nice heat, which I really liked. The portion was quite big, but I could've done with a better protein to rice ratio. They also have fried chicken and meat pies. I'd like to go back and just sample some of the other meat entrees. Good place. read more

This was certainly a big surprise for me, having driven by this place numerous times during my commute to the hospital. The serving size is tremendous for the cost, from $8-$11 (small to large), and the variety of meats, from oxtail, to curried goat, to jerked chicken and 4 types of fried fish (kingfish, tilapia etc). I opted out of the rice and beans options and just got large heaps of sauteed green beans, which was quite filling although bland. My favorite dish, was surprisingly the collared greens as a side option. While it cost $6, it was piled to the brim on my to-go box and it was spicy, wholesome and offered a wonderful complementary texture to the meat-heavy meals. My spouse and I are in RI often and have become foodies. This restaurant food was delicious. The only reason they received four stars was because they ran out of patties and my husband's jerk chicken was cold. We'll definitely be back for those patties. They look flaky delicious!!!! read more

I was impressed @ this place with amazing customer service & splendid choice of delicious dishes, you gotta try it out.

Everything was so good. We got the beef patty, spicy wings, curry chicken, cabbage, green beans, yellow rice, and the rice and peas. So good, definitely worth the 30 min drive. Price is really reasonable only $23 for all that and they give you a good amount of food. I couldn't even finish it. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the parking sucks. Before I even tried the food I knew I liked this place. Everything smelled delicious when we walked in and the folks at Flames saw us trying to decide and patiently and enthusiastically named every dish for us. We picked out combos and got a bonus sample of a great seafood dish for the road while we watched Ninja Warrior. Honestly, it's been kind of a crappy Monday, and the people here really cheered us up. Got home and dug in and everything was so good! I had the curried goat over beans and rice with string beans chock full of onion and carrot. The goat was the GOAT - spicy, but the kind of spicy that doesn't overwhelm the flavor. All that good stuff got soaked up by the rice which was tender and delicious. My partner got the stewed chicken over vegetable ride with cabbage which was also amazing. The seafood dish, which was our surprise, was like nothing I've had before - fish and squid, with lots of fragrant spices. We ate our fill and have plenty for another meal. The portions are epic! I must say the food is delicious the dessert is really tasty. I had a little of everything and I was very happy with my meals. My favorite is the sweet chili chicken, macaroni and cheese, rice and peas and beef patty. For dessert had the strawberry cheese cake and it was good... Intriguing restaurant tucked in on eddy st, conveniently close to the hospital. Tried theox tail, curried chicken and curried goat. Standout of the meats was the chicken. It was tender, well spiced, and moist. Ox tail had a complex flavor profile, succulent and fell off the bone juicy. The goat was a tad on the "gamey" side. I'm somewhat of a skeptic when trying new things. Food is rarely one of them. On my weekly commute I kept passing by this new place across from Wendy's and I also heard their commercial on our local radio station. that was it, this place was calling me. I walked into this vibrant restaurant and was greeted by the wonderful scent of something magical. i look over the counter and saw an array of food and my favorite Jamaican patties. :) I already knew what I wanted because again, i studied the menu before making my way there. I ordered a to go plate with rice and red beans, cabbage and sweet and spicy wings with a side of imported Jamaican creme soda. the lovely girl with her Jamaican accent helped me out, and fox cashed me out. i love ordering food from people with great attitudes because maybe i mentally think it tastes better. (and makes for a long time client.) anyway the place was fairly busy bud not too overwhelming. anyway, i couldn't wait to get home, the rice was SO good, i think it has some coconut milk in it. Savory with a hint of sweetness. cooked to perfection. and the wings? OMG! outta this world. Pretty upset I went in yesterday to get some lunch with my fiancé we got the oxtail, cabbage and rice and peas which we both enjoyed. Today we wanted to enjoy lunch there. I've eaten at the Flames in MA so I know the menu very well. I called around 12 and asked the woman there when they would be making fried chicken she said they were slow but will put it on and it will be about an hour... So I waited patiently my fiancé told me to call before going seeing as I'm hungry 9 months pregnant and wanted something specifically. I called back and the same woman apologized and told me another hr... 3 hours later my fiancé called in and was told an 1 1/2. So I Waited 4 hours for chicken not to get done. Which Is ridiculous if you're not making it just say that don't make someone wait and give them the same lame excuse.. That's terrible customer service. I'd rather drive all the way to flames in ma then eat here again. read more

generous portions, I always get the chicken curry and it is consistently very good, gotta get gravy on the rice, awesome flavors
