Mofongo

Take me back to Providence, Rhode Island. This restaurant just made its way to my Top 10 favorite restaurants and yes, I will travel 3000 miles for their food! We were hungry then found this place while we were looking for a place to eat. Totally unplanned, just wanted to get a bite to eat. This restaurant is located on Broad St (busy street) next to McDonald's, Dunkin Donuts, and other places to eat. I'm so glad we walked into this establishment. My boyfriend and his younger brothers are Puerto Rican. They asked me if I've ever tried Mofongo. I've always wanted to try it, so I ordered the Mofongo with chicharron. Best decision ever. What it is, is mushed up plaintains mixed with Pernil (Puerto Rican slow roasted pork). Then topped off with chicharrones. It also came with a red sauce (not spicy) and a white sauce. It was so good: The ladies working there at the time were very friendly too. There is a bathroom inside for customers only and a lot of tables to sit. You just sit yourself. Can't wait to come back to Providence just for this restaurant. I'm hooked!

Like Linda, I went to this restaurant because of the "Too Good to Go" app. I found out they had a surprise meal for about $6 at the end of the day (starting at 6pm), so I got my surprise meal. There's a private parking lot so it's easy to find a place to park. This restaurant is next the the McDonald's on Broad St, so lots of people hanging out and loitering. When I walked into the restaurant a nice couple greeted me and I explained that I was there for the surprise meal. I speak Spanish, so I conversed with them in Spanish. They got a some of their Chaufa Dominicano (like a paella), some boiled yucca and one piece of stewed chicken. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. Average to say the least. Still they have other many options like roasted chicken, pork, beef dishes, etc. They also sell combos if you are so inclined.

They have their own parking lot in the back. It's a hot bar but also a whole restaurant lol the interior is so nice that take out is a very hard option to do because you want to dine in lol For two large entrees and a large spaghetti, it came out to be $42. This also includes a drink! I got the stewed chicken, stewed goat, and spaghetti. If you never had Dominican spaghetti before, please do try! It's super flavorful, a little sweet, and a little salty. It's so good. Stewed chicken was good but not the best. What one lacks, the other compliments. The rice here is so moist and fluffy. Along with the sides they offer. I opted for macaroni salad. Highly recommended. The stewed goat was a little salty but that's up my alley lol I can see it being a little issue for some but I love salty food lol Very disappointed they didn't have oxtails though. It was only 2pm and they were out already. Overall, let's just say, I wish this place was closer to home!!

We came to Pito's after having gone to La Gran Parada. I figured I'd try it since Yelp reviewers…read morewere comparing them. I liked them both. I thought the food was comparable. The main differences were; 1. While they are both cafeteria style, Pito's is a lot less crowded (mainly because they are a lot faster) 2. La Gran Parada has been remodeled and has a nice and big dining room. Pito's is more like a shabby little pizza joint 3. Pito's is cheaper (although they are both cheap). Ox tails in particular were cheaper. 4. La Gran Parada has more choices 5 Pito's only has street parking I think We tried the ox tails (rabo), pig's ears, stewed chicken and fried bananas with both white and yellow rice. It was all very good. Pig's ears is an acquired taste (actually more of an acquired texture as the sauce is what gives it taste). It is "blubbery" like tripe but can also be a bit grissly. It's definitely different but I liked it-maybe not enough to order it again though. Next time I want to try the chicharron which I love and compare it with La Gran Parada which was very good.

You get a small side cup for .50. They need to fill it up more tho as it's only 1/3 full. Love the flavor on it, it's citrus-y, vinegar-y, salty and just adds some more bang to the flavors!

The restaurant itself was in a very busy and rough park of Cranston Street…read more Hard to get parking in front of restaurant, may have to park on a side street or away a few blocks a walk up. Food selections had a nice variety. I ordered a plate with rice and pigeon peas and stewed pork ribs which is accompanied with a small salad The rice was flavorful and nice and fluffy and the stewed ribs a was 1 of the better versions I've had. I also order a large mundongo (tripe soup) A side of white rice. So I gave 3 stars that's a because it was not the easiest place to place an order with some challenges with the language barriers. And the whole process seems a slow since all the food is already prepared. It would seem pretty simple to point scour into the containers and bag it up and out the door. But was a slow process. The food would get a 4 stars for that nice flavors and freshness. But the mundongo I pointed and ordered never made it to my bag. When I got it home, it was a large container of the stewed beans that is usually used to top the white rice. So I couldn't add my review on what I did not get.
