We were going to a show at PPAC & La Catrina Tacos & Tequilas is a new-er-ish restaurant in the…read moreDowncity neighborhood. The overall experience left a mixed impression - great location, interesting menu, somewhat slow service, issues with the food & timing confusion with the daily specials. Before heading to the restaurant, I checked out the website & the daily special pop-up board said "Join us every day from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM for our $2.00 Street Taco Special." Great! Let's do a couple of tacos along with some drinks. Unfortunately, the waiter said it was only 3-5pm &, even though it was 5:05pm, they wouldn't do it. Okay... so we moved on. Hubby ordered a Modelo Especial & I went with passionfruit house margarita. It was a little too sweet for me so I asked for a little soda water to dilute the passionfruit syrup. We are both huge fans of pozole & you don't see it on a lot of menus. It is a traditional Mexican soup made with hominy, pork & broth - either red or green. We should have asked because we prefer green but it was the red variation. It came with a platter of toppings so you could customize each bite. The broth was nice & spicy. Unfortunately, the pork was more grizzle than meat. Hubby selected the Wet Burrito: a large flour tortilla stuffed with grilled shrimp & chicken, rice & queso dip, then doused in more queso dip with pico de gallo, guacamole & sour cream as sides. It was ginormous but consisted of very little shrimp & chicken. I wasn't super hungry so I ordered the appetizer pork belly chicharron. Good-sized pieces of nicely charred cubes of spicy pork. It came with pico de gallo, guacamole, beans & warm tortillas. It was delicious! As the restaurant is still relatively new, they still need to iron out some of the operational kinks & hopefully will settle into its groove. We will be back (from 3-5pm) to check out the tacos!

So rare in PVD unless you go to tortilla flats (ikyky). It was a little hot down there but it's the end of summer. Deff give them a chance. They will eventually have a room for rental in the back.

My friend Mechelle wanted some street tacos and we decided on this restaurant based on the good reviews. We walked in and sure enough, there are only 6 tables in the entire place for a sit down meal....small, cozy and authentic. Since I speak Spanish, I said hello to the lady behind the counter and she was super nice and friendly. She brought the menus and asked what we wanted to drink, I said tap water.... We ordered some tacos and they were all Wonderful.... The corn tortillas were grilled and warm when they hit our table and the fillings were delicious. I had the chorizo, carnitas and barbacoa....all three were good, but the carnitas was outstanding...I will get that again next time I visit... My friend Mechelle got the asada and the shrimp and she loved both...the shrimp pieces were big and grilled.... Overall great service, friendly staff, excellent flavors and affordable prices... There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and some street parking as well. If you love street tacos, this is the place...while there, I saw a plate of nachos go by and I will get nachos next time...their menu also has burritos, tamales, huaraches, quesadillas, etc....Lots of choices......

The filling was juicy and flavorful while the tortilla was moist and the perfect texture. It's a small place, and even though we came around 2:30pm, it was still pretty busy with people coming in to eat. The service was friendly and very speedy. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd love to come have tacos here again.

First off, the good: Ethan our server was very sweet…read moreThe food was DELICIOUS (carnitas quesadilla and bean dip in particular) However we had a pretty bad customer service experience with the owner who was contacted after we noticed a discrepancy with our bill. We ordered the chips and guac for 14.50, which comes with beans and salsa, and says says free refills (menu attached). We asked for one refill of beans and one of guac. When we got the bill, we were supposed to see charges for the beans and guac. Our server explained that the free refills were only for the chips and salsa. We asked to see a menu again and pointed out that it says free refills. Our server contacted the owner/manager who doubled down on the misleading statement and charged us for both refills (total of 10.50 additional cost). It's really a bummer because I had read a bunch of reviews on here and my takeaway is that the food is great but the management leaves something to be desired. Be upfront with your customers! It's a great restaurant with delicious food, I'm glad small businesses exist, and I wish that we had been treated with more grace and honesty. Losing $10 on your end (or even just being upfront and stating the refill policy on the menu) is well worth it for a positive customer experience. I would have loved to give this place 5 stars but took 1 off for the misleading pricing and another for the way that it was handled by the manager.
