The tortilla was fresh and chewy, which was perfect because I hate when tortillas are dry. The staff were super friendly too. I've been on Thayer plenty of times and have passed by this place while admiring their little outdoor patio dining area. But, I have to admit that with Baja's being on the same strip, I didn't feel the need to deviate from something I knew was good and affordable. However, my friend was in the mood for a snack and spoke well of this place, so we went in and had 3 tacos. Originally, we were planning on only having a taco each, but I am so glad we went for the third because we demolished them. We ordered 1 shrimp taco, 2 steak tacos, and a jarrito drink. They have a solid selection of toppings that look and taste fresh and are free of charge on entrees (I am unsure if guac is included). The total was $14 and change which I thought was reasonable. On Tuesdays they do have a taco special, but we missed out by a day. They do make their tacos with two tortillas each, which to me is an invitation to make double the tacos by splitting the inside in half among the tortillas. I thought the flavor of the steak and shrimp were really good, and were tender - not overcooked. I am very glad I was introduced to this place and will be going back to try other items on their menu. We used Caliente's catering service for a family get together and the experience was really good. They have a catering menu that covers many types of foods from tacos to nachos to wings to burritos to quesadillas. We ordered a combo for tacos and the amount of food they provided was huge....it said that the small combo was enough for 12-15 people but it really could had fed 25. The steak was grilled nicely and it was well seasoned. The chicken chipotle came in its own sauce and it was moist. I have become truly addicted to Caliente Mexican Grill. I've never eaten there in person but I have ordered takeout/delivery multiple times and it's become one of my top go to lunch spots to order from. I have also introduced several of my colleagues (offered to order lunch for them too when I was placing my order) and every single one of them is now a big fan. The street tacos are absolutely fantastic as are the enchiladas. I usually get either of those two items and love them so much I'm not sure I'd ever waver. The chipotle chicken filling is my favorite and has a good amount of heat. Portions are generous and the prices are super reasonable. You really can't go wrong. I've been going to this place for years ever since I was URI for undergrad. I returned for the first time in a few years and the quality of the food has increased dramatically. The burritos are absolutely to die for. If you're a fan of spice, I strongly recommend the Kingston Fire with extra hot sauce. They've also expanded their menu now to include wings. I haven't tried the wings yet because the burritos are so good, but maybe some day! They were super busy when I went on a weeknight, but they were still really fast with my order. I usually go to Caliente for a late night snack. Most recently I've ordered their wings. If you want some good wings while you're in Providence, Caliente knows how to do it. I ordered the 9 Teriyaki wings. I usually order all drums. There's never an extra charge for it either. The wings come with fries. You can order a solid meal for around $10. That's close to impossible in Providence. Their fries are breaded, but the wings aren't. Truthfully, I prefer non-breaded wings. I wish the fries weren't breaded as well. Overall, you can't go bad with their wings. I may try some actual Mexican cuisine from there one day. As of now, I'm convinced that they have some of the best wings in the city. read more

Caliente has easily become my new favorite place to get take-out on College Hill. The service is quick, the dishes are affordable, and the food is delicious every single time. I have tried many of the items on their menu, but my new favorite is the Steak Ranchero. Although it is twice as expensive as some of their cheaper items clocking in at $16, it is worth every single penny. The steak is tender and flavorful, and the bed of rice, eggs, and refried beans are perfect for soaking all of the extra juices up. Plus, the lettuce and pico provide a much-needed acidic crunch. I got the Street Tacos (meat, guac, cilantro, green salsa, lime wedge, and I got it without pickled onions) with chipotle chicken and they were FANTASTIC. I love that Guac is included (and generously added!) and the salsa was delicious. I loved the chipotle chicken as well! The ordering is sort of chipotle-style where if you're getting something like a burrito you can tell them what you want them to add. TAKE OUT REVIEW: Astronomically large portions for their salads. If you're trying to skip the bread or chips (which is painfully hard to do and you end up eating nachos anyway) then go for their salads. They are very large in size, very flavorful chicken, and some of them come with guac. This is some of the best guac I have had. The nachos come with lots of toppings and I've got to say again THE GUACCCCCC damn it's good. The most impressive thing about this place is that the food was hot when we got it. Not warm, but HOT.
