After a challenging five-mile hike on the Cliff Walk, we were ready for a huge, rewarding meal, and this was the perfect spot! The portions were massive and everything was absolutely delicious. Both the steak and chicken were expertly flavored and cooked perfectly.

They stayed open another hour on Halloween night & truly saved the night. Phenomenal staff who kept the long line moving fast. Food was great

We used Caliente's catering service for a family get together and the experience was really good. They have a catering menu that covers many types of foods from tacos to nachos to wings to burritos to quesadillas. We ordered a combo for tacos and the amount of food they provided was huge....it said that the small combo was enough for 12-15 people but it really could had fed 25. The steak was grilled nicely and it was well seasoned. The chicken chipotle came in its own sauce and it was moist. All the tortillas, vegetable toppings and chips were fresh (altough the chips were very salty). Great catering job !

I'm from Arizona, so I'm used to authentic Mexican food and this was the closest I've come in RI!! It's soooo good with great prices and fast service!!

This place is delicious!! Fresh ingredients and amazing bowls, and they had a great variety of Jarritos flavors. Reasonably priced as well, I will definitely be back!

This place is LEGIT. Awesome Mexican food at reasonable prices. We ordered the nachos, a breakfast burrito, and the combo plate. Each was cooked to perfection and our stomachs were well satisfied. The only two low scores would be the salsa for the chips and the parking. I'm craving this place again as I'm writing this.

I usually go to Caliente for a late night snack. Most recently I've ordered their wings. If you want some good wings while you're in Providence, Caliente knows how to do it. I ordered the 9 Teriyaki wings. I usually order all drums. There's never an extra charge for it either. The wings come with fries. You can order a solid meal for around $10. That's close to impossible in Providence. Their fries are breaded, but the wings aren't. Truthfully, I prefer non-breaded wings. I wish the fries weren't breaded as well. Overall, you can't go bad with their wings. I may try some actual Mexican cuisine from there one day. As of now, I'm convinced that they have some of the best wings in the city.

BEST FISH TACOS EVER! They literally fry the fish in front of you. I have them put all their usual toppings for the fish tacos on. Portions are incredibly generous and prices are fair. If you're in college hill and want fish tacos, this is the place to get them!

A place where you can get some decent Mexican authentic food. Some of the food could use a bit more flavor a kick.

We ordered the chips and guac for 14.50, which comes with beans and salsa, and says says free refills (menu attached). We asked for one refill of beans and one of guac. When we got the bill, we were supposed to see charges for the beans and guac. Our server explained that the free refills were only for the chips and salsa. We asked to see a menu again and pointed out that it says free refills. Our server contacted the owner/manager who doubled down on the misleading statement and charged us for both refills (total of 10.50 additional cost). It's really a bummer because I had read a bunch of reviews on here and my takeaway is that the food is great but the management leaves something to be desired. Be upfront with your customers! It's a great restaurant with delicious food, I'm glad small businesses exist, and I wish that we had been treated with more grace and honesty. Losing $10 on your end (or even just being upfront and stating the refill policy on the menu) is well worth it for a positive customer experience. I would have loved to give this place 5 stars but took 1 off for the misleading pricing and another for the way that it was handled by the manager.

The menu is small and yet there's always plenty of yummy things to try when I go, even as a picky eater. There are multiple vegetarian and even a vegan option or two. I always have to get the guac when I come here - it's the perfect amount of creaminess without too much onion. Their red salsa is a great slightly chunky - slightly juicy texture and has a bit of a kick. The vegan burrito bowl is my go-to as a vegetarian, and the street corn side as an app is elite! It is a little spicier these days since the recipe was updated from on the cob to off the cob (I much prefer off for ease of eating and sharing!) The Coconut Cartel margarita was creamy and smooth and went down *quick* haha. Others in my party loved the spicy Margarito, although they were out of the main spicy tequila but the servers offered substitute recommendations. I came with a very large work group today, and the servers were so patient and flexible when we asked for modifications from the menu. I even was able to order the queso dip with the chorizo on the side (yummy but very thick cheese dip!), and they were very attentive of my colleague's mushroom allergy and made sure she got dedicated dishes, even when we were all sharing apps. The churro donuts seem to have changed recipe and got mixed reviews - some thought they were dry, another says she Uber Eats just those regularly Sitting outside in the summer on the patio is nice. Tasty, interesting dishes with modern urban twists on Mexican recipes. Truly the only slight downside is that sometimes parking can be tricky in this area, but you can always find free street parking, it may just take you a little bit. Even the funky and creative decor is a selling feature for me. A must-try!

But I'm someone that believes anyone can have an off day so overall this place is really great. First and foremost, get the margarita. They are the best I've ever had. Also, get the tacos. Even as an app they're so great. I got the shrimp and a veg recently. I've enjoyed all of the entrees I've ever gotten. Honorable mention is the shrimp Diablo. Super spicy and delightful. The interior is warm, cozy, and a perfect combo of lit enough so you can see but dark enough to set a mood for spilling tea or flirting with your date. Equal parts good for girls night and good for date night. The not so great: I got flautas once and they fell flauta (haha). Also, it's sometimes a one man show so service can be slow especially if you need refills so be sure to order multiple drinks at a time, or better yet a pitcher. Street parking can be a real pain but sometimes you get lucky on a side street. Definitely worth a visit if you've never been!

So we took a chance. And we were not at all disappointed! First, we were greeted warmly, in a genuine way, by the owner. They seemed genuinely glad to have us. The older gentleman was friendly and playful towards my son. The food was delicious! I had enchiladas with housemate mole. The mole was fantastic: complex and nuanced. My daughter had enchiladas verde, which was smothered in a poblano salsa that was also complex, with great green heat. My son ordered the arracherra, a peppercorn rubbed steak served with homemade guacamole and a delicious cactus salad. I was tempted by several other dishes, particularly the enchiladas mineras (beef cheeks - yum!). All in all, a warm, welcoming, delicious experience that made me want come back. And I will.

At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.
