Al Son de Mi Barrio (which means "to the sound of my neighborhood" in English), it's a little cute, hole in the wall restaurant at the corner of Atwells and Valley. My friend Mechelle wanted some street tacos and we decided on this restaurant based on the good reviews. We walked in and sure enough, there are only 6 tables in the entire place for a sit down meal....small, cozy and authentic. Since I speak Spanish, I said hello to the lady behind the counter and she was super nice and friendly. She brought the menus and asked what we wanted to drink, I said tap water.... We ordered some tacos and they were all Wonderful.... The corn tortillas were grilled and warm when they hit our table and the fillings were delicious. I had the chorizo, carnitas and barbacoa....all three were good, but the carnitas was outstanding...I will get that again next time I visit... My friend Mechelle got the asada and the shrimp and she loved both...the shrimp pieces were big and grilled.... Overall great service, friendly staff, excellent flavors and affordable prices... There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant and some street parking as well. If you love street tacos, this is the place...while there, I saw a plate of nachos go by and I will get nachos next time...their menu also has burritos, tamales, huaraches, quesadillas, etc....Lots of choices...... read more

My partner and I were craving tacos so we looked in the area and decided on trying this place and we were so glad we did. I got two Al Pastor tacos and a Horchata. The filling was juicy and flavorful while the tortilla was moist and the perfect texture. It's a small place, and even though we came around 2:30pm, it was still pretty busy with people coming in to eat. The service was friendly and very speedy. If I'm ever back in the area, I'd love to come have tacos here again. read more

Al Son De Mi Barrio - Mexican Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

Al Son de Mi Barrio Initially came into this restaurant and was told that there would be a long wait, so we left for about a half hour and came back. My girlfriend and I felt for the lady who was cooking (assuming she was the owner as well) because she was all alone and expressed that she didn't have any help at the moment. We came back and the cook made us some delicious tacos. We ate carne asada and chourico tacos. These tacos were good, nothing spectacular, but loved it's simplicity - meat, tortilla, onions and cilantro...that's it! You can add some kick if you'd like and if you're anything like me, then you need that hit of habenero. Go ahead and show this business some love and let me know what you think. -ODL read more

Good, authentic, and inexpensive tacos. All of the proteins I chose (lengua, carne asada, carnitas, and Barbacoa) were delicious. The chorizo was okay and nothing too special. But the others were delicious and flavorful. read more

My boyfriend and I found this place on Google, near by in our new neighborhood. The 2 people helping us were so kind walking us thru the menu, we ended up getting tostadas, tacos with steak, and Birria tacos. The Birria broth was THE BEST I've had to date. I will continue to come here as my #1 pick in Providence for Mexican food. Thank you! read more

I'm always looking for authentic tacos. This place definitely does that. I tried 2 steak, 2 chicken and 2 pastor (pork). In my opinion, that's the best way to get good sense of the options. 6 tacos is probably way more than I needed, but you don't know me. Again, good authentic food, no frills, reasonable prices. Worth dropping in. read more

When I say the best burritos in the city! The food is cooked right in front of you and the owner is the kindest

Unassuming little place. The tacos were delicious. Everything tasted fresh. If you're close probably great for takeout as it's pretty small and there was a shooting barely a block away while we were there (around 5pm). I wish the menu had better descriptions we got the sampler and while we enjoyed it it was not what was described. read more

As someone who is Mexican and grew up in California, I have struggled to find authentic Mexican food on the East Coast. Al Son de Mi Barrio tasted like home to me. I enjoyed the hand made huaraches and quesadillas. The tacos de asada were really satisfying as well. Definitely check this place out! read more

I love a good authentic Mexican restaurant and this place seems to be a hidden gem. There are only 5 tables here with about 16 actual seats so it's small-- but like they say, good things come in small packages!! I got the super burrito because the woman who helped me recommended it. You have many choices of meat with whatever you want to order: (beef, chicken, pork, pig ear, tongue, chorizo, beef head, or mixed).. When you have that many options, you're bound to find something you like! Be sure to come and enjoy this little place, and be sure to do with a cold Jarritos! read more

After participating in Taco Mania and going to roughly 20 different restaurants, this place is still my top pick for taste. The Al Pastor is fantastic. Service can be a little slow, and it's a small place, so I recommend calling and ordering ahead for takeout. read more

This joint is the true legit Mexican taco and burrito, might be one of the best, if not the best, Mexican bite in the pvd hood.

Good, authentic Mexican food with those delicious bits (pig ears, tongue, etc) that you won't find in the establishments that cater to gringos. Be sure to get some of the green and red hot sauce for your spicy kick needs. read more

On a hunt for tacos on this fine taco Tuesday, my friend and I came across this taco shop on Yelp. Wanting to try out some cheap tacos without the obligation of purchasing alcoholic beverages, we were pleasantly surprised to encounter some of the best tacos we've so far in Providence. Don't let its no frills exterior deter you from getting the tastiest Al Pastor around. For $2, the tacos are packed full with the protein your choice. The torta was overwhelmingly large and delicious. At 6:30 on a Tuesday, there was lots of takeout traffic but few customers eating inside. Parking is pretty easy. We street parked around the corner, but there were ample spaces out front as well. We will be back! read more

Tiny yet delicious taco spot! Very friendly service, delicious food, and a well stocked fridge of Jarritos sodas. I had the birria tacos which were fabulous. I think I'll be going back soon to try their breakfast options! read more

A lil hole in the wall place, just like the other reviews had stated. Yes, authentic mexican food. Not the terrible and medicare gringo stuff you see around here. I'm from southern california and have been to mexico numerous times. This is a great taco shop, especially in a tiny town like Providence. read more

Yummy, authentic Mexican food made with fresh ingredients! Their menu is basically mexican staples (tostadas, huaraches, burritos, etc) with your choice of meat. The special taco with chorizo was especially tasty. Not much in the way of seating inside--3 high tops with 2 seats each, but the server was very attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. No booze, but they have a nice selection of sodas and juices. read more

We only went here because it was close to our Airbnb and we were hungry. The outside doesn't look like much but their tacos are delicious. Maybe because I was craving tacos and they aren't as common in the northeast as they are in the south but these really hit the spot. They are dirt cheap ($2-3) and served on soft pliable corn tacos. The veggie taco comes with no shortage of cheese and if you don't like an ingredient, they can customize! They also come with a green and red sauce-the green is mild and the red one is spicier. If you're in the area and want your taco fix, come to this place!! read more

Al Son De Mi Barrio - Veggie taco and special taco with chicken - Mexican Near Me - Providence, Rhode Island

This is the real deal. Not fancy. Not creative or fusion anything. Just a little hole in the wall, with really friendly people, that serves typical traditional Mexican food. It wasn't on the menu, but I wanted just rice and beans and they were happy to make me a plate. We were there for lunch. They have a few tiny tables, but we took our food back to the office. Yum. It helps if you speak Spanish. Just look for the beautifully colorful exterior mural and the orange walls. read more

Great low cost Mexican food in a small Barrio style building right out of Mexico. Love it!

This place doesn't look like much from the outside but their food is amazing. They have a better selection of meat than most mexican places in the area (i was surprised to see tongue on the menu) and all of their ingredients were very good quality. Both times i've been there the staff was very friendly and the prices were pretty cheap considering the quality. Definitely a great spot for cheap, authentic mexican food. Try the tortas. read more

One of my favorite family-owned, local Mexican restaurants in Providence. Everything is authentic and fresh and the meat is well seasoned. Love love love their tacos - I order them all the time. I have eaten a lot of tacos in a lot of places and these are as good as any. If you live in New England you may have often wondered why it is so hard to get a great taco. If you can make it to this place, it is worth the drive. The chorizo and pastor are super flavorful. The tacos are loaded with meat and super cheap. The hot sauce is the real deal. This place is a gem. read more

I have very little patience for gringo tacos when the real thing is so flavorful, inexpensive ($1.50/regular taco since this spot opened), and if you know where to look, no longer hard to find in Providence (whew!). Located in the at times nightmarishly busy intersection diagonal from the Price Rite-Eagle Square, Al Son De Mi Barrio is the dining-in offshoot of their stellar food truck regularly located off Manton Ave. This permanent space has 4 small 2-seater tables for dining in if you want, but there's been times it's been crammed with so many people it looks like the clown car at the circus. I've mainly gotten carry out b/c the space itself is very cramped, as in, take 3 steps in and you're at the register. I'd probably be a regular here if 2 things happened: 1. the street parking situation got better and 2. service speed regularly improves. Service in particular can be excruciatingly slow, so I'd ask what the wait time is before you pay. Because of slow service, I actually prefer their nearby taco truck, but it would be tough to find much better indoor tacos than these at this price point within a 20 minute drive from this place. Solid spot. read more
