    Yellow rice (side order)
    Helga M.

I finally made my way to this Jamaican food place on Eddy Street! I ordered to go. I'm not very familiar with this part of town, and I can be a bit of a Nervous Nellie in unfamiliar environments, so I played it safe this time. The location is a mixed bag--RI Hospital, Brown University practices, and then just a few steps down, gentlemen's clubs so, your call. Now, on to the food! They have the popular, made-in-house Jamaican patties that I enjoy so much. Finally, no more frozen versions. Of course, they were ah-ma-zing, right? I ordered beef and chicken patties and stopped myself from getting the veggie kind as well. As always, I'm in danger of overordering. I did give in to a side order of yellow rice--nothing special, but it wasn't dry, so that counts as a win. I also ordered this fried chicken fillet-looking dish, and it turned out to be a fish cake (or fritter) called 'Flitas'! Made with ground saltfish, it's a serious tastebud stimulator. Yum. I wish I had ordered more than one because halfway through eating it, I didn't want to share with my husband (again--see other reviews, lol). The Jamaican patties are large. The beef filling is moist and had a mild spice to it. The chicken filling is also moist and has a noticeable curry flavor. The crust are truly flaky. I also had the fried bread dough or dumplings. I liked the patties and saltfish fritters (my new favorite!) but found the dumplings only okay. These dishes are really greasy but oh-so-scrumptious. If you're in the mood for an exotic experience, check out the menu board, which boasts Callaloo (Amaranth), goat, oxtail, more kinds of fish, shrimp, and more. There are Breakfast items, Soup, et. al. There are at least six cooked dishes on display that you can choose from. Flames also has a great dessert menu. I was tempted to order a slice of rum cake--next time! Behind the counter, they also have Golden Krust sliced bread--Cinnamon and Jamaican varieties (I'm very intrigued by the latter and would definitely come back to try it). I'm always delighted to discover new-to-me, lesser-known cuisines in Rhode Island. I hear they've been on Eddy Street for at least six years. I hope it continues on as there's so much more I haven't tried yet. No Jamaican Jerk Chicken for my first visit? I know, right? A travesty! I just got caught up in the excitement. I hope you give it a shot if you're in the area!

This is a chain of Caribbean restaurants dotted around Massachusetts and Rhode Island...so the Providence location is on Eddy St, near the Rhode Island hospital. As we approached the restaurant, we could smell the spices and the scents on the air surrounding the place...it's that fragrant. I got a plate of oxtail, because I love a good meaty tasty tender plate of oxtail....it came with rice of course........a bit salty for my taste, but really good blend of spices. On any given they they usually have all these meals on their warming dishes, waiting to serve... Chicken (curried, fried, jerked, stewed, BBQ) Jerk Wings BBQ Beef Ribs Curried Goat Stewed Oxtails Stewed Beef Stewed Steak Tripe and Beans Grilled Salmon King Fish Shrimp (curried or creole) Red Snapper (escovitch, steamed, brown stewed) Delicious....

This flames is one of the best ones in the chain this was the most authentic jerk chicken ive had in new england bar none the green beans were perfect as well. Do yourself a favor and check them out. It is spicy though but not toooo much. Thank me later.

Very very mean old ladies working at the front, fire them and hire pleasant people who want to work. Extremely rude, rolling their eyes when you ask questions about the meals, like it was disappointing. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The pictures of how they dish out food are not how they serve you. I got 5 small pieces of oxtail for $20, my coworker got a plate full of chicken back with his BBQ chicken meal. The food wasn't good at all. I would starve before I go back to this horrible restaurant.

This place is serious. You pay, ut they don't hold back on the portion, authentic Jamaican spot and the food is good. This is my Jamaican spot officially in Rhode Island.

Location: The restaurant is not hard to miss. It is situated on a 2 Way St. And it is right across from Wendy's. It does have a small parking lot. And if that's full you can park on the street. Food: it is classic Caribbean food. And the chicken melts in your mouth. The customer service was very nice. I think the lady somehow knew that I was from out of town. So she helped me with my order. PLEASE note The food is very spicy. So if you don't like that. Let them know. So they can help you with your order

Wow! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile, I've heard so many great things and i was not disappointed. The large oxtail meal was delicious and very filling -- I had leftovers for days! Definitely will come back to try other items from the menu.

This was like $60 in food. And the oxtail was my husbands food and he doubled down that it just wasn't enough protein for what it cost. The greens were good but needed salt. The Mac wasn't cheesy. The rice was super good and my chicken was also good. But a little dry. The broad street location off little Italy has not "dedicated parking" we just live close so we walk. They have music and events sometimes I hear. They don't answer the phone when they're busy lol so be aware for take out. We arrived there about 1.5 hours before it closing. We got lucky and found street parking in front of the restaurant. You can sit down and eat here. The lady that helped us was very friendly yet warned me that she had only 1 chicken left (jerk chicken). I decided to get it with the sauce, on top of rice and peas and cabbage. In all honesty, I've tried jerk chicken in the Bay Area and even as far as Springfield, Massachusetts. This location was okay. The chicken quarter was very dry but the sauce was really good which made up for it. On top of that, I wanted to try the oxtail stew but $18 for a small was outside of my budget. I did try a bite of my partner's beef patty was it was delish. Aside from that, the restaurant was empty when we were there. We got to sing in our seats while we waited for our food since they were playing oldschool 90's rnb music. I was definitely vibing. 4/5 stars for me. I would've rated it a 5 if the chicken wasn't tough and dry.

Food selections had a nice variety. I ordered a plate with rice and pigeon peas and stewed pork ribs which is accompanied with a small salad The rice was flavorful and nice and fluffy and the stewed ribs a was 1 of the better versions I've had. I also order a large mundongo (tripe soup) A side of white rice. So I gave 3 stars that's a because it was not the easiest place to place an order with some challenges with the language barriers. And the whole process seems a slow since all the food is already prepared. It would seem pretty simple to point scour into the containers and bag it up and out the door. But was a slow process. The food would get a 4 stars for that nice flavors and freshness. But the mundongo I pointed and ordered never made it to my bag. When I got it home, it was a large container of the stewed beans that is usually used to top the white rice. So I couldn't add my review on what I did not get.

JoRo offers Liberian and Soul food and at the time of this posting, they were only doing online orders through Toast. The space was still being worked on with the bar and dance floor on the main floor and a cozy upper level section with bar and seating area. While I was in the hood, I was going to stop for pizza, but then I spotted a new place called JoRo. I parked the vehicle on the street and walked up to JoRo, which was empty. The owner was sitting behind the bar and informed me they were only doing takeout online orders. I took a peek at the online menu and chose two selections including the Meat Lovers Lasagna Bite ($15 plus tax) and the Grilled Plantain & Smoked Fish Pepper Sauce ($12 plus tax), The food took about 20 minutes to be ready to go, both selections packed in one container. The grilled plantains with the smoked fish pepper dipping sauce was pretty good. The Meat Lovers Lasagna Bite was actually a good sized heavy piece of lasagna layer with ground meat, cheeses, soft noodles and smothered in a thick red sauce. After taking a few bites of the lasagna along with some of the black pepper sauce, the good flavors quickly became very hot and burning, almost like consuming capsaicin. They went overboard with the spiciness in the black pepper sauce. I enjoy spicy foods, but for this meal, I needed to drink some cold water and enjoyed the rest of the lasagna and plantains in smaller portions over three meals. Other than the over the top peppery flavor from the black pepper sauce, I would return here when the JoRo restaurant and bar is fully opened for dine-in service.

My boyfriend and his younger brothers are Puerto Rican. They asked me if I've ever tried Mofongo. I've always wanted to try it, so I ordered the Mofongo with chicharron. Best decision ever. What it is, is mushed up plaintains mixed with Pernil (Puerto Rican slow roasted pork). Then topped off with chicharrones. It also came with a red sauce (not spicy) and a white sauce. It was so good: The ladies working there at the time were very friendly too. There is a bathroom inside for customers only and a lot of tables to sit. You just sit yourself. Can't wait to come back to Providence just for this restaurant. I'm hooked!
