beef and rice in a styrofoam container

Very pricy. I ordered the curry goat with collard greens and rice this plate alone was $20. My husband ordered the oxtail with the cabbage and rice which was another $20. The rice was hard and must have been sitting out for a while, the curry goat and oxtail tasted good and had good flavoring. We also ordered 2 meat pieces with coco bread, the meat pies did not have alot of meat in them, it was more breading than anything. I expected it to be spicy but it wasn't. The staff overall was friendly, it's a nice spot in the south side

I've had pretty decent experience with Island House so far. The one dish that blows me and the hubs away is their jerk chicken. I am not an expert, but theirs has a fresh off the fire grill taste that's hard to stop eating. It is well seasoned, a bit on the sweet side, which is reminiscent of good barbecue. It's served with generous portions of rice and beans, plantain, and cabbage. The rice and beans are good, just a little bland. But they are a nice counter to the very flavorful chicken. The curried goat and also the crab are okay. I am happy to eat it, just didn't blow me away. The crab especially is hard to eat because it isn't really broken up for you. Their juices are refreshing and tasty. Cucumber is a bit sweet, but recommend the hibiscus ginger!

Large ox tail and vegetables.. soooo good! (I wish it was a bit hotter but it's really good!)

Really Good Place to eat after school. The Fries are delicious! The chicken is ok and most of the menu is cheap and perfect for students.

I pulled up right when they opened to get that fresh, hot food. Soon as I walked in, the vibe was on point--good music, welcoming decor, and just that feeling that you know the food's gonna be fire. I grabbed a seat and looked over the menu. Couldn't decide between the chicken or shrimp... so I went with both. No regrets. My plate came with mac and cheese that was creamy and flavorful, and the collard greens? Perfectly seasoned, just how I like them. The cornbread was soft and buttery, and the sweet tea hit just right. Solid 10/10 on the food--nothing but goodness. Only downside? The customer service. My waitress made me come up to her to place my order--and it wasn't even busy. That was the only thing that threw me off. Cabbage - Cooked to perfection. No complaints. Yams - Again, nothing special, not bad, but not great. Cornbread - Good! Nice and moist. Honey Garlic chicken - Nothing really bad to say. RI Food Fight- Lord of the Wings 2025 Review:…read more First time ever at Wes'. I grew up hanging out with previous owners kids. The wing coupon brought me in. Off the beaten path, decent sized parking lot, inside is very modern. There were only like 2 people working on a Saturday night at 5pm. When we walked in we had to wait to be seated for 5 mins but the place was pretty empty?? Once seated, we placed an order for drinks. I went with a rum punch (it was advertised as moonshine but I asked for the liquor switch) and my husband eyes a posted $5 margarita sign. The drink was more liquor than punch. I like it the opposite way. My husband had no problems with the margarita's or the deal! The wings: we went boom boom sauce. It was a decent wing but the boom boom just didn't do it for me. It's me- not the sauce! Just not my jam. He told us it was like a Cajun ranch. I didn't find anything Cajun about it. We ordered mozzarella sticks (I don't think you can really mess up a mozzarella stick.), (2) cornbread's and 1 rib. The cornbread was ok. (With winging it, I have had a lot of cornbread around the state recently.) The rib was large! Overall this place is ok. My husband and I chatted as we pulled out: if we were in the area again we would hit it up again!

Wow! After reading so many reviews with a wide variety of ratings we didn't know what to expect,…read morebut our visit to Wes' was great. We used to frequent Wes' back in the 1990's, but hadn't been there since it reopened. We spoke with the owner today (who was also our server), and learned it recently changed hands again, so maybe the poor reviews were under the previous ownership. Our experience today was awesome as we really enjoyed the environment as well as the food. Wes's has its own parking lot, which is great since parking in Olneyville can be tough. The exterior of the building has been fixed up from the good old days, and when we went indoors, we were very impressed with how the interior has been renovated as well. New windows, new furniture, new bathrooms, and everything is spotlessly clean. Menu choices are great with fair pricing, and service was prompt with just the right amount of attentiveness. We were using our RI Food Fight sandwich coupons and were given three choices: pulled pork, fried chicken, or the All-American burger. We went with the pulled pork and the burger. Both were served on good rolls that didn't fall apart, and both were nice and big with plenty of meat. The burger had a delicious smokey taste and the pulled pork was tasty as well. We did not use any extra bbq sauce, but we did see a bottle of what looked to be house-made sauce on another table. In addition we split corn bread and sweet fried plantains and really enjoyed both sides. Wes' is still working on obtaining a liquor license (should be soon!), so we ordered sodas and were impressed by the large cups. We also checked out the arcade game area, which looked fun, and the additional seating room upstairs which includes a small stage. The new owner told us that they host karaoke and trivia, and this room looks perfect for these types of entertainment. We loved that the event space is separate from the main dining room as oftentimes it's tough to eat dinner and converse while other events are happening, and it looks like this won't be a problem at Wes'. We would like to wish the new owner lots of success - Thanks for bring Wes' back to life and we hope to return soon!

The restaurant itself is pretty small but decorated beautifully. I'd recommend calling ahead for dinner and arriving early for lunch. I went today for my second time and arrived at 12:30 with no trouble finding a table. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing and answered every question we had about the menu. It's predominantly fried chicken but there are some small bites you can order as well. The main menu has a variety of chicken, flavor, and sauce options to choose from. Today I opted for the plain blue plate with the Honeybird sauce. My sides were the dill pickle potato salad and grits. In the past I've had the pimento Mac and cheese and creamed corn as well. The chicken was perfectly crunchy and large- these are some big birds they're cooking. The grits had a perfect flavor and were nice and cheesy. The potato salad was also a stand out with the creamy potatoes and sharpness from the pickles. Everyone who came with me today enjoyed their meals and their food has been consistently great. My arteries may not be happy with me but I highly recommend this cheat day meal!

As a non-chicken eater, I ordered salad, hush puppies and the catfish sliders. I was also excited that they had a number of local beers on draft. The salad was pretty average and underwhelming. The hush puppies were also just okay. The catfish sliders were the tastiest of the three but I did find a small piece of bone in one. We chose this restaurant because it was close to an event we were attending later in the evening. Since the chicken was well received, I might come back with other chicken enthusiasts, but unlikely I'd check back here myself. Service was pretty speedy but although we requested separate checks at the start of the meal we still got a combined check and had to ask again for the split. Ambience is nice with a bit of a bistro flair and cute chicken themes. The process of making a reservation here is awkward. You have to request the reservation and then they email you later to confirm it. Would be much more convenient if they did Open Table or Resy. Limited parking too. Their lot is small and we had to park on a side road, which was not a big deal as the road seems to be in an industrial area and was not busy.
