Some months ago my middle-aged laptop refused to recognize either of my external optical drives. They worked fine on other computers, and my computer recognized everything else just fine. FTM tried a whole lot of tricks and strategies, but in the end were baffled and had to return my un-repaired laptop to me, with chagrin just pouring off them. These folks pride themselves especially on their diagnostic skill, and they do NOT like failure. Some days later, on a whim, I re-connected the problem drives. And they worked perfectly! I'm not sure who runs this store but they need to seriously talk to their employees . We've given this place 2 different tries and each time they have failed miserably! The first time I dropped off my computer that was old to just get the pictures taken off and put on a hard drive. After numerous calls and attempts they were supposed to get the info transferred. Well time went by and nothing . When we finally got down to the store they couldn't find the computer and had no idea what happened to it . Then later mentioned it could be in their ware house. Ok so finally get in touch with a manager and they're terribly sorry not sure what happened and nothing they can do?! Really!?!? How can you take people ms computers and not know where they go. Now here comes number 2 : we drop off a 2007 Mac to have it wiped and transfer our pics to our new 2015 Mac so we can give our old one to a family member. Ok they say they can do it when they're ready they will call for the new computer to come in so they can transfer. Weeks go by again no call! so we come in they say I don't think anything is done with the computer and we leave. They call after we've left and oh we did take your info off it's on our hard drive so bring your new computer in and we can transfer it over. Well mind you I never gave permission for you to put my info on your hard drive you were going to transfer from one computer to the next. And no one ever said we need to do that ahead of time. So ok, we bring the computer in and now they aren't sure where our files are???? We will have to look , I'm not the person who was working on it. Ok , so the guy says leave the computer here there's only one other person that could have worked on the other files and I'll call you today... now it's a week later every time we've called goes to an automated vm and today finally get through and they're telling us our hard drive is not working properly and they can't recover our pics? What....... so I'm confused when there wasn't any issue with either of these computers why you can't put it back how they were if you couldn't do what you were asked. Instead they try to suggest that we take it to a recovery place to see if they can fix damaged drives?! What the hell Is going on over here? This is absolutely the. Pat disorganized unprofessional business I've used and would not recommend it to anyone!!!!! Very friendly and not pushy at all. They diagnosed my MacBook Pro for free without charging a penny. All other repair shops charge a $50-$75 diagnostic fee (at least that price). My 2006 iPod classic developed a problem with the center control wheel. I took it to an Apple referred repair shop locally and they wouldn't touch it. They recommended another place nearby and they would not work on it. A friend recommended Fix that Mac and when we went in, they said they could fix. The also said my earphone jack had a bit of static and recommended it be fixed. For only $52.00, all is fixed, and my over 2000 songs are saved! My iPad had a broken home button and I went in to inquire what the cost of repair would be. I expected it might be high enough that it wasn't worth fixing since its several years old. Turned out that you have to replace the screen on this mini to also replace the button. The guy that helped me did give me a great tip that through the accessibility options I could turn on a virtual home button onscreen for the same functionality. That basically saved this tablet's life for a while longer. I will definitely come back next time I need their service. read more

This place is great! Max was super helpful! He cleaned a lot of crap off my computer and got it running 1,000 times faster and didn't even charge me. I highly recommend this place if you're having any MAC problems at all! I hate going into the Apple store to wait and wait and get impersonal service. I have a 5 year old MacBook Pro. A week ago it stopped working. The screen would not light up. I took it to the Apple Store in Walnut Creek and was told that I needed to get a new one, as it would be a waste to put more of my money into such an old laptop. I took it to Fix that Mac in Concord and talked to Tyler, the store manager. He took the initiative to trouble shoot various components to determine the problem. He said that I would be best to spend the $310 to have my laptop repaired by Apple. I received it back from Apple and took it back to Tyler to make sure everything was ok. I now have a laptop that will last me several more $200. I gave Fix that Mac a 5 star rating. They saved me almost $1,000 over getting a new laptop and did all of this at no charge to me. When the hard drive eventually goes out Tyler will replace it and I will double the memory of my laptop. Great advice and a caring company. read more

Appalling experience - waited a week. No call, called them and with amazing serendipity they told me Mac and iPod were ready for pick up. Turned up and was handed an iPod with a replacement screen that looked as if it had been fixed by a toddler in pre school. Next came MacBook with replacement keyboard. I fired it up and surprise surprise keyboard is still not working. After some discussion we agree that the repairs are not satisfactory and that they will try again. Here's hoping... read more

I went to Fix That Mac in Concord on 2002 Salvio Street today 9/2912 at approximate 12:15pm. and had a Horrible experience. All I wanted was some help or explanation On why my Google Maps and YouTube were deleted in the IOS 6 Upgrade. This guy At the counter completely blew me off. Said he didn't have a IPad or IPhone 5 And when I asked him how about going to the App Store on the IMac that was on the counter he replied are you going to pay him. This is when I lost it. I stormed out of the store called the Berkeley store complaining about this guy. The guy at the Berkeley store was actually defending this guy, saying he was a good Tech, how ever he did confirm that this guy has social issues in dealing with the public and they try to keep him in the back. My MacBook Pro, (late 2011) that contained many of my research documents suddenly became nonfunctional. I contacted Apple Support for help and they tried their best to revive the device, but of no avail. To be honest, Apple Support did try their maximum (phone and chat)to get my device up and running. Since the device is "old" they were reluctant to accept it for service. But they told me to seek repair from independent Apple Service Engineers, but would not recommend a name, as such. It was, then, I stumbled upon "Fix That MAC". I spoke to Tyjai and fixed an appointment for the next day. The next day, since Tyjai was busy with a customer, I was greeted by Josh Henry, who looked into my device and said it can be serviced and High Sierra can be installed freshly. Date to return the device was discussed as he wanted further time to investigate what the issue was. The following day Josh called me to inform that the Logic Board was defective and that needs to be replaced and he told me the cost and time frame for repair, which I readily accepted. I was extremely desperate to get back my MBP. 1 week later Josh called me saying the MBP was ready and High Sierra was installed on the SSD. I got my MBP back fully functional. It runs faster and efficiently than before. Thank you FIX THAT MAC and thank you josh and Tyjai for listening to my sob story, patiently. I recommend every one with issues with their Apple devices to take it to FIX THAT MAC, to get it serviced. read more

So I broke my screen on my iPhone 6+ and needed it replaced. Good rating and reviews on here so in I go. First they said 1 hour. Then it changes to 4. So I go home and get a call and now it's tomorrow afternoon. Little upset at this point because not only do I not like being without my phone that long I don't like it being in somebody's ( other than mine ) possession that long. So the next afternoon I go in and am told that the screen repair is finished but their tech broke some ribbon cable. Not a big deal except that now my home button won't work and they can't get the part for a week. He was able to turn on a software home button in the settings but that has serious drawbacks. It's always on the screen no matter what you have open and to return home you have to touch it to bring up another screen and then hit another button. Frustrating. Especially for a week. So a week is next Tuesday. Go in on Tuesday and nope not ready. The counter girl says they can " sort of fix it" and shows me how there is actually 2 parts to this cable and that's why they can only sort of fix it today. I walked out in disgust. The next day I go in again and it's the manager at the counter. He goes in the back and the part has arrived but " nobody told him ". So he replaces the cable while I wait and finally 8 days later my phone works. I will never return to this place ever again for any reason and I recommend you avoid it also. Horrible customer service. The only call I got from them was the one that told me my phone would take more than 24 hours to do a job that was originally quoted at one. For the amount they charge for the job it should be an hour and if they break that cable on such a common phone they should have it in stock not take a week to order. I dropped off my iPad with a broken screen over 10 days ago, and still have not seen it. I was told by staff that it would be ready in approximately 3 business days. I was also promised that if there were any problems, I would be notified and kept up to speed on what was going on. After about 6 days, I contacted the store, and they seemed bothered that I was calliing to check in. I was told that the part was on order, and was taking longer than expected...I am assuming screens for iPad's are their bread and butter, so it did not make sense. As of this weekend, I have still not heard any news as far as when my iPad will be fixed. The store is awful with communication and customer service. I really have no choice but to leave the iPad with them at this point and hope for the best. I would NEVER recommend their services to anyone needing repairs for Mac products. read more

Good luck if you ever try and call to get an update on your computer. After 2 weeks of no updates I started trying to call and just was getting a generic voicemail- it didn't even have the company name? The Berkeley store said yes they were in business. Finally got a a hold of them after a month today- "oh sorry, we can't fix it", they tell me!!! Really!! One month later!! And they "claim" they left me a message. Do business here at your own risk. There service is great! I bought a charger for my MacBook last week and I am having other problems with it. I brought it in today and they checked it out for free and told me that I just need to reload the software. I found out I didn't have enough memory to load it so they had me come back so they could remove a couple files since my computer wouldn't boot up and I couldn't do it my self. Be careful bringing your items here. I had done my research (so I thought) and had read the reviews about several different shops before bringing it to this establishment and thought I would be safe coming here. At first impression, this seemed like a good shop. I learned my lesson, the hard and costly way. Just go back to the Apple store. Don't mess around with other shops and just pay a little more to feel safe and not get screwed with. Period. It's not worth the few dollars you might save. I brought in my Iphone 4G with a speaker issue and ended up with the Iphone not being able to be used through the traditional "handset" feature. Really? Common. I not only had to pay for a repair that created another issue with my Iphone but actually ended up having to replace the Iphone! These guys seem to be bumbling idiots when it comes to ordering parts and scheduling work. I have a 2011 iMac and wanted to have a solid state drive installed. I turned in my computer to have the work done on March 22. The said it would take about 5 days to complete the work. After the 5 day period, I made numerous calls to find out when I could come and pick it up. Each time, I received an excuse for the work not being done, and a promise of 2 more days and it would completed. After two weeks of this, I just went to their store and retrieved my computer. Hands down best place I've ever been to! They literally saved my computer life! I went to geek squad and they quoted me at $400 to replace my hard drive because it was "damaged"and said it would take up to 7 business days to get it back to me. I came here and they said there wasn't a thing wrong with my hard drive they just needed to reset it and get the system booted up. My computer was finished in a few hours and it was $55 out the door! The battery wouldn't recharge and they told me upfront that it would take a while to get the part in. (Parts were difficult to get with the impending release of the 3rd gen iPad.) We recently bought a MacBook from a friend and had issues getting back into it after we erased everything. We went on ahead and online chatted with 3 different Apple reps, and spoke on the phone with 4 different Apple customer support to get help until we reached the senior advisor of Apple, who also could not help. We spent almost an entire day trying to fix the damn computer and everyone at Apple was absolutely clueless. We brought it into Fix that Mac and they helped us right away like it was the easiest fix and they had no doubts about getting our computer back to us in good shape, and that's just what they did! They called us back the next day to say everything was ready to go, for a sweet price! The workers there are so nice and so helpful and we will definitely be returning if we have any problems with our Apple products. I had a 6 year old MacBook Pro that just stopped working in December 2012. I took it to Best Buy, the Geek Squad worked on it for 3 days and essentially told me that they couldn't salvage anything and that the computer was done. For some reason, I couldn't throw out this computer. I had so many precious pictures and important documents on there, I couldn't let it go. In January 2014, I took it in to Fix That Mac and they immediately told me they could get my info off the computer, and a few days later they had restored all those photos and documents onto my new MacBook! We talked to Tyler on the day that we were picking it up, but I forget the name of the guy who diagnosed my laptop for me. He had a really well done tattoo on his upper arm. I am so happy that I went to Fix That Mac. I had dropped an external hard drive on a tile floor and was unable to access any of the data on it. I took the drive to another local computer store, Staples, and Fry's and was told it would either be impossible to recover the data or that it would cost anywhere from $700-2100 to recover the data by sending it to an outside company. No one was able to explain why the estimates were so broad. I considered sending it to an online data recovery service that I had found online for $499, but after talking to a few people, was worried that I would get scammed out of my money. I was about to give up, but my husband urged me to try Fix that Mac. I was given a free estimate and told that it would take a few days for them to let me know if they were able to recover anything. If they were able to, the cost would be $142. I was doubtful, but a week later I called and they had already recovered some of the data! It took another day or so for them to finish...but I am happy to report that they recovered everything I needed and honored the original price. The only negative thing I would have to say is that it took a little longer than they promised, but I have a feeling it may be because they operate with a pretty lean crew. However, if that is the reason their prices are so good....I am still a very satisfied customer. I also love that I was able to support a local business rather than having to go to one of the big box stores. read more
