Mixed review.... Bad: $55 in labor to do something that only took him, well, less than one minute to do???????????????????????????????????? (replace my iMac 27'' glass screen) I planned on dropping it off thinking it would take them an hour or so, but the guy said, "oh no, it will only take me a few seconds" so i am confused on how they get the idea that they can charge $55 for a minute worth of labor. Also, I called 3 different times, and the prices were all different on this. Good: I dropped off my 2006 MacBook, as it wouldnt turn on at all. They told me they were busy and it may take a week to check it out. They called me and told me it was the circuit board, and that they cannot fix it, so did not charge me for the diagnoses. They replaced my wife's iPhone 4 screen that was cracked, for $85 after tax. They messed up the first time with something, so said it would take another 30 minutes. They don't know the word "no". They upgraded my hard drive and transferred the data. Fixed my iPhone when I could not figure it out. Once your apple devices are out of the warrantee this is the place to go. I am very happy with their service. read more

Macbook Pro, 2 years old. Feared I had a dead hard drive, took it into them and they also had the same diagnosis. Got an estimate that was quite reasonable, and left it with them -- Was told it would likely be 3-4 days with their backlog. Next day, they called and said it was a bad hard drive cable, and that it was ready to be picked up. Sweet. 1 hour of labor + the cost of a cable, and I still have all of my data. I also got it back in under 48 hours. - 5th star, hourly rate is a little steep at $125. Thanks to fellow yelpers, I didn't even go near the apple store. read more

When dropping off the iPod to get repaired the lady was super helpful and nice. After waiting for over a week I got a phone thinking my iPod was fixed or they had some answer on what was wrong. Instead they called me and told me that what I needed help with, they couldn't even do for whatever reason. It would have been nice to have that answer when initially dropping off. Took my IPhone with cracked screen to have it repaired. The service was great. It took an hour. I left it there did some shopping came back and it was ready. I also got a new battery and screen protector. I am very happy with their work. I don't know how they compare with other places as far as price goes. The guys are great. The power button on my GF's iPhone was stuck. These are extremely helpful it tell us exactly what it would cost, plus they did not have a long turn around time. Before going to "Fix That Mac" I had called Tech Restore by Costco to get a price quote an see how long it would take to fix the issue. Tech Restore wanted us to wait till the next day to drop off the phone and they it would be about 1/2 a day to get the phone back. The guys at "Fix That Mac" not only fixed the button for $5 cheaper that Tech Restore even though they replaced the actually button assembly, but they also did it within 1 hour of us going into the store. The expertise, prompt service and fair price makes this place one of my favorite business. Will definitely recommend them to friends and family. read more

I have used them twice now. Perfect service both times. They will fix your actual Mac. The apple store will charge half the price of a new one and hand you a refurbished one. The benefit of getting you own iPhone, iPod, or iPad fixed at FIX THAT MAC are twofold. 1. The price is less, though not cheap. 2. Your own data remains on your computer. I recently went to Fix That Mac to buy my first mac computer; a beautiful refurbished MacBook, and hot damn do I love that little machine. Rory, the cute boy who works there, gave me a good deal on it, and was super friendly and professional. I tend to ask a ton of questions, and he took the time to answer each one thoughtfully, which always means a lot to me. Since then I have called back a few times with overly worried questions and they always were able to rest my mind and assure me that my computer is fine, though they did offer to take a look at it for no charge. Their Berkeley store is also awesome, and a few months ago they fixed my Nano for a good price and with that same great service. I personally really appreciate having a local, personal, unbiased source for my apple products, and these guys really try their darnedest to give you the best deal and service with no crap! Here's the problem with this place: I walked in and there was one client that the man was working with... OK fine... I'll wait until they were done... they walked out and I walked up to the front to see a cluttered mess and The Tech Guy didn't even acknowledge me. I finally said hello, to which he nodded and went back to what he was doing.... Awkwardly I stood there in a music-less room that was only there embarrassingly keep me in this limbo of trying to make eye contact with someone who couldn't seem to even welcome a potential customer. He finally clears the table where I could finally see him, where he doesn't ask what's wrong with my Mac or why i'm in there. So eventually i just blurted out "ok i'm uh... here because you guys do free diagnostics right?" He shakes his head in an affirmative yes... So i begin to pull out my Macbook Pro and start telling him what happens where he doesn't seem to be asking any questions. I pull out my charger because I know that it hasn't been used in a few weeks... HE YANKS IT OUT and just reaches down from the bottom and plugs his in. (it was super rude, and he didn't even say something like "thanks but I have one") instead he decided to not even make eye contact with me as well as just start tinkering with my computer without asking questions. I finally had to let him know that my mouse was extremely worn down on it and it won't register via "clicking" on it or holding it down which he was forcefully doing as well. After about 5 minutes of getting his own mouse and him not really telling me what he's doing He speaks!!!! "So either your hard drive is fried or WORSE it could be your motherboard. If its your hard drive i don't know if I can get the files from it but if its the motherboard you'd be better off buying a new computer" He proceeds to tell me the cost of the possible hard drive replacement. Terrified and appalled by his service I left and wanted a second opinion. I took it into the APPLE STORE where I didn't have an appointment... was greeted by 3 people by the time that I made it to the back of the store, they scheduled me an appointment to meet with an expert, which he was able to diagnose my computer within 5 minutes and talking to me through the process. ON TOP OF THAT!!! "Fix That MAC" completely mis-diagnosed my computer and over quoted me. I payed 1/3 of the price going into the Apple store NOT BEING ON THE APPLE CARE PLAN than I did going to some third party wannabes that were probably better suited to fix mac makeup than a computer. IF you even think about going there I STRONGLY Urge you to try the Genius Bar in the APPLE STORE First!!!! its not worth having to deal with people who obviously don't care about your service. Brought my husbands iPhone in when it was having trouble charging, brought it to another location I believe Teck Restore and they told me it would need a new charging port which would cost a couple hundred dollars... No way was I going to pay that I might as well buy a new phone... I found Fix that Mac on yelp and they fixed the problem in a day for $60 with a 90 day warranty. Tyler has tried to unlock my IMac 2x after I did a OS update and was locked out by their (apple) firmware. Tyler's Great and has a positive attitude and very willing to help but unsuccessful both times. I went to sleep the other night with my MacBook on the other side of the bed per usual, where it always is and I've never had any problems with me laying on it etc.... Well, never say never because the next morning I woke up basically spooning the computer...imnmjn next morning wouldn't turn on. Worst feeling ever! I was absolutely gutted and freaked out because I wasn't sure what the problem was. Many things were going through my head: "can it be fixed?, can I fix it myself? Where do I start? What if it never turns back on? What if some of my info gets lost? Etc.. WORST FEELING EVER. Anyways, I found Fix that Mac on the internet and gave them a call- they said bring it over whenever you want, so I did. When I got there, Tyjai greeted me and I told him them problem. He took it in the back for a few minutes, when he came back he said it wouldn't turn on but that it was very dirty inside and that giving it a clean might work. I said go for it and so he did. He brought it back and it was still not turning on, my heart was starting to drop and I was starting to freak out... $$$ was adding up in my head when he started to mention what potentially could be wrong with it. He went and got some little tools and worked on the computer some more, then he turned it back right side up and pressed the power button...... and the computer magically turned on!!!!!! I seriously could have cried! I am so grateful to Tyjai and his patience, knowledge and willingness to keep examining the computer to try and fix it instead of giving up. He seemed to really know computers which was comforting. He actually cared when some people would have just given up after the first try and would have told me I was out of luck but he didn't. I was disappointed to learn that a battery which Fix that Mac replaced less than 12 months ago for my iMac Air had no warranty. The Battery does not take charge and needs to be replaced. Fix that Mac wanted me to buy a new battery for $99 plus a service fee with a small discount for a total of $135.00. How can a replacement battery not have a 12 month manufacturer warranty when I already paid $155.00? read more

This is the second time I used this place and I can honestly say they are as good as gold. My old workhorse Mac's touchpad finally stop working last Friday and the touchpad was acting like a demon has taken over my pointer with some evil force moving it instead of me. I though of Fix that Mac immediately and drove over there. Michael was able to diagnosed the problem correctly and gave a cost estimate soon afterward. The repair was done within two hours and I picked up the computer and took it home to my great relief. The good news was the touchpad was working but non of the application was responding to the launch click, so I took the computer back and Michael thought the new touchpad might not be working properly and asked to keep the computer over the weekend since it was almost closing time. Talk to Michael on Monday morning and it turned out there is a little wire connection that was not working properly probably due to my Mac being almost 10 year old. Picked up my old trusty Mac in the early afternoon and extremely happy to report my Mac is ruining 100% once again. So there is so much I can say about the fantastic service I received from Fix that Mac. I took my 2011 MacBook Pro to Apple. Apple said that they couldn't fix it because it was too old. They only fix computers that are less than 5 years old. Apple referred me to another independent computer repair shop in Berkeley. I contacted that shop and they said they couldn't help me. I am super grateful that I found Fix that Mac. They immediately said they could fix and they completed the repair within hours of dropping it off. In terms of sustainable, this company has it. Apple basically wants you to dispose and buy new. That's not good for Mother Earth. When it comes to preventing Climate Change, Fix that Mac is the place to go. Fix that Mac is the absolute best relative to location, ample parking and the most superlative customer service I have ever experienced. The price for fixing my laptop was very, very reasonable. Poor customer service, lack of professionalism and a dodgy screen fitted = dead iPhone. Brought my iPhone there because screen was shattered, got a new screen fitted, screen was faulty. Brought phone back to complain, was told they would fix it but ultimately my phone ended up totally broken/dead. I got a refund for the original repair. Moral: Avoid. Before I give my review... if you took an external hard drive into this place for service, let me know how much they charged you. Review: I went into this place not long ago to ask about how much it would be to fix a broken ipod, they said $120. This meant, opening it up, and replacing parts. Pretty involved. Went in there yesterday, asked how much would it cost for them to recover data from an external hard drive--let me say first there is software online for this that is open and available for anyone to use... which they themselves would use okay... guess how much they said it would cost? $300!? Really, for what? Another thing about this place... they have no prices posted. When you go to an auto shop, they have the prices posted (brakes $xxx, oil change $xxx, etc.)... this place, just come in and we'll tell you off the top of our heads based on what we think we can get over on you for. $300 for nothing but a few minutes + the fact that your pricing scheme is a mystery makes that clear, you're not honest, you're a rip-off... and if it is the case that one of your associates ignorantly quoted me $300... still, fuck you! read more

I am very disappointed in the service i received at this store. I took my MacBook air in because it failed during and system update. They had it for over a month. Every time i call they said they would have an update in a couple of hours and would call. They never called. I would call back the next day or two. Either they didn't answer or if they did they would say it would be ready in a couple hours and would call. They never called. After multiple weeks they said it would need a new hard drive. They said they had a 256 ssd hard drive they can sell me. Said it would be ready that afternoon and they would call. They never called. After another week i was finally able to get someone to answer. "Oh yeah its been ready for pick up". Now i have it home, it doesn't say 256 ssd hard drive is installed, it says 121g flash drive. Called to question, still no answer or call back. read more

I turned in my MacBook because it wasn't turning on. The lady checked it in and said she'd get back to me in a few days with a diagnosis. I never heard back so I called them after almost 2 weeks. My whole board needed replacing which is understandable so I decided I would just take it and part it out. Diagnosis is not free here. I was charged 55$ for them to tell me my laptop doesn't work. Pretty upset. Customer service is great but just confirm pricing prior to leaving or paying. read more

My contact with Fix that Mac was with the Berkeley store (Fulton St) which has now been closed. In July this year (2022) FTM Berkeley replaced the battery of my Mac Pro. Three weeks ago my Mac stopped charging, just six months after the repair. The repair cost me $253.57. I spoke with FTM at the Concord location. They were sympathetic, but they reminded me the warranty on the repair was for 90 days, parts and labor. Note that a number of repair shops use a warranty that covers labor for 90 days and material for a year. I have no way of determining the quality of the FTM Berkeley repair, nor the workmanship. I'm commenting here a suggestion that persons who want to evaluate a Mac for repair go directly to Apple. I went to the Apple Store, they evaluated my machine and offered to fix it (battery replacement) for $199. I accepted their offer and received the machine back five days later at my house looking like new. I believe it's best to use Apple because they have more to loose than FTM if their repair fails soon after the fact. Apple too gives a 90 day warranty for parts and labor, but I favor working with them because they use Apple, not off-market parts, and they have an interest in keeping me happy since I will recommend them and I will be buying more Apple products in the future. I have no desire to hurt FTM or its people, but this experience convinces me to stick with Apple. If someone out there has had a bad experience with an Apple repair, tell me about it. read more

I spoke with the manager of the Berkeley location(she answered when I called the Concord number), she spoke with the owner and said to bring it back and they'd have a partner company repair it properly and that they had all their good techs quit so everyone is still being trained.... Yes, people with no training or certifications are working on devices. I took it back and it was sent off for repair. It came back about a week later, we picked it up yesterday. The button is still loose but functional so we figured what ever, it works, just be done. Fast forward, not even 24 hours after pick up and the home button is now INSIDE the housing and non functional. I called back and was told I could bring it back for repair (mind you they've had it more than I have since it was originally brought in for repair months ago), or get a refund for the repairs. I just want it sent to apple and fixed correctly on their dime, but was told now. I'm currently looking into a small claims suit to have it repaired or replaced. Such a waste of time! iPhone screen broke. Saw some good and some bad reviews so decided to try. Was told it would cost me $140, that was ok with me. My husband dropped it off and they said in 1hour pick up. 2 hours later he goes to pick it up for me and the employee explained to my husband that he quoted him wrong, the total would actually be $160! , we were in a rush and thought owell $20 more was fine, we were not going to argue. But then hands him back my broken phone! He had the phone for 2 hours and didn't fix it because he assumed we wouldn't pay $160. Went here a few months before my son was born in December 2016. This will be relevant. My screen shattered and so I came here to have it fixed. I paid about $100 bucks and waited an hour. Very reasonable to me. I purchased a case while there as well. Well because I purchased a case I never took it off after that. I never noticed the screen was actually not attached to my phone. The case held it there. So when my son was born a few months later my screen literally went black the day he was born. We could hear it but the screen was completely dead. It was such a pain in the ass to use my husbands phone for everything. My husband inspected my phone and realized what a horrendous job this place did. Not everyone can just go out and buy a new phone. Luckily I was able to & I'm writing this review months later because I passed by this place again and forgot to write my review about how shit this place it. Find somewhere else. Would have rather waited longer and known my phone would have lasted longer than a couple months. read more
