Wade Cantrell, owner of Cantrell's Computer Sales & Services, is a great person and wonderful business owner. As such he hires excellent people. The microphone on my computer has never worked. As video meetings become the norm, my work-around doesn't always work and I really need a functional mic. Wade set up a virtual support appointment with one of his techs. The tech was prompt, helpful, polite, and unsuccessful. I needed to take the machine in. We easily made an appointment, that I had to reschedule, and I continued without a microphone for a couple more days. While I had a half-hour appointment slot, I assumed that I would drop off my computer and hope to hear from the tech before the day was out. I was greeted by a different tech - also friendly - who started the thing up and in about 10 minutes got the mic working. Turns out we needed a little trial and error along with a hands-on approach. By the time my half-hour appointment time was done, my computer was fixed, I'd gone to the gas station around the corner to fill my tank and tires, and was on my way home! These guys are truly exceptional and a testament to how small business computer shops are the way to go. Jordan was amazing with fixing my laptop issue. To make a long story short, my HP laptop took FOREVER to be fixed as they shipped it there (upon my direction)....sadly, HP said they were awaiting a motherboard and this wait ended up being nearly a month and a half. I finally had enough and asked Jordan to contact HP, request the computer be mailed back to Cantrell's and they locate a motherboard. Jordan did such and, a few days later, my laptop is equipped with a highly functional motherboard. On top of that, I found it incredibly simple to reinstall my old files. Rather than inject a flash drive and reinstall all Word, Excel, etc. stuff, it automatically populated once I purchased the latest Microsoft Office product. Gayle's 5 year-old Fujitsu laptop has progressively slowed down over time, and went over the edge after I loaded Norton 360 on it. It got so bad that we took it off, but we were already past the point of no return. When we were in Portland a few weeks ago, we almost bought a new computer at Best Buy at Cascade Station (near PDX). After we got home, she got busy and I then decided to see if we could fix the machine. After Yelping around a bit (and immediately eliminating Fry's), I took the Laptop to Computer Sales and Service. It's just a short walk from the house (and across the street from Casper's Hot Dogs). The only caution about this place is that they're a little open ended concerning when your machine will be ready to go. That of course depends on what's lurking within your hard drive. In our non-infected situation, the Fujitsu was in the shop for about a week, but the use of my Sony Vaio at home made sure that there was peace in the land. The service itself was excellent, and the Laptop is now home and exceeding Gayle's high standards. The thorough baseline service is $89 and I later decided to pay an extra $20 to enhance the RAM. The Technician had a rare combination of computer expertise, friendliness, patience, and a clear way of explaining things to this neophyte. I also appreciated the matter-of-fact way that he layed out the options, without pushing the sale, or preaching IT Armageddon if we didn't chose wisely. He was also very conscious of the point where a computer purchase might be more cost efficient than further repair. I found it all very educational regarding what things were slowing the computer down, information on anti-virus software and hard disks, and what refurbished machines options were available. read more

My charger on my laptop wouldn't go in. I assumed the charger was broken. I looked in the computer thought there was a piece stuck inside. I called Cantrell's and spoke with Nathan. He said it was okay to pop on by. Turns out I bent the pin that connects to the charger. Nathan just bent it back in place in about 10 seconds. Everything's back to normal. Thanks Nathan! i used Cantrell's several years ago. Always appreciated the expertise, very helpful, very user- friendly. That's why I called them first when I was having computer problems. I talked to one of the staff, after which I decided to just buy a new laptop. I called Cantrells to ask if they can come to my home to set up the new laptop plus transfer files from my old laptop. I called twice. When I did not hear back I sent an email. I texted. I called again this week and left a message. Clearly this isn't happening. I have absolutely no response. Disappointing particularly since I know the quality of their work but I will just keep looking. read more

I dropped off a laptop today for evaluation that was running slow, paid $99 for Tier 1 eval and $80 expedite fee. They indicated that I had a few malware files and they recommended a hard drive replacement to an SSD drive with a cloning procedure. I needed to pickuo the computer today so it can be used for business this evening and they did not print out the diagnostic results not did they provide a list of the supposed malware files. Not happy at all. What the hell did I pay for after all. read more

Stellar service! Brought in my laptop as I thought it was an operating system and hardware issue but did not know why when I disconnected my power cord, the Windows 10 laptop would just power off immediately. This is after the new battery was installed and working flawlessly for 2 months. Also, the trackpad had slowly stopped working and then quit altogether. I thought it was to be replaced. Nope. The tech reconnected the battery to the motherboard as well as the trackpad, and found a major Windows update to install that is not auto installed. The laptop works great now. Plus the next day, over the phone at no additional cost, the tech guided me through for no additional charge how to uninstall and reinstall a particular software driver. Thanks! I quick visit to Cantrell's and they were able to solve the problem and replace the parts quickly and efficiently to get me back up and running the next day. Normally I would buy one and refurbish it myself but after my experience with Cantrell's I will go the easy route and just purchase from them. I had a Surface Pro 5 that had crashed and went in to an "Attempting to Repair" loop. I spent over 2 hours with Microsoft support attempting to try and recover data on my hard drive. I did my own online research and tried certain things as well. Finally, I did a Yelp search and came across Cantrell's which was close to where I live. I called and spoke with Wade and brought my device in Wade and one of his tech's went through various commands in an attempt to recover my data before sending my device in to be exchanged. I wish that I could tell you that they were successful, they weren't but I don't fault Wade or Cantrell's for that. Wade was friendly and knowledgeable. I just plugged in my new Western Digital external hard drive that I purchased at Cantrell's. Cantrell's used this drive to transfer all of my data from a damaged Seagate drive where I have some 1.5 terabytes of mostly photo data. In the mix of all this, I lost my partner and the father to our 20-month old child so didn't have the where-with-all to deal with struggling to recreate my backed up photo library. My hope was that I would at the very least get part of my Aperture library back from the Seagate. To my surprise, I finally got my new drive plugged in to see what data Shahab was able to pull off the Seagate and there, there to my delight, were ALL my photos in Aperture. I can't tell you how relieved I was that I wouldn't have to combine the backed up Aperture library with whatever Shahab was able to recover. It would have been so much work to do so, and even more so that I am trying to cope with the loss of my partner. These are the photos I will use to create the slideshow that will encapsulate his life. The emotion I felt when I saw that all those precious photos were right there on the new drive were enough to make me cry. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Cantrell's, and in particular Shahab who provided so much relief, particularly at this time in my life. I strongly recommend these guys for not only data recovery needs, but also purchasing of computer equipment. They gave me advice on what to purchase so I can hope to prevent such a loss again. This place is great. I have been going here for over 3 years and have brought computers in and also had them come to our office to fix our network. This is a knowledgeable bunch and they do a great job of explaining your computer to you in lay person lingo without making you feel stupid. My computer crashed last year with all of my photos on it and another place told me it would be a minimum of $800 to recover my photos. I am not addicted. I am not addicted. I am not addicted to my computer. Of course I will never vacation out of range of internet access - who would? When I fly on a commercial jet across the country I don't have to pay for internet access. I do hook up a GPS antenna to my Surface Computer and watch our trip from gate to gate in real time. I watch altitude and speed and direction of travel. And I watch our progress on a map all the way. While I listen to music from my extensive library. But I am not addicted to my computer. So, on a recent trip to Concord my computer DIED!. And I do not travel with a backup computer!. I could run out and buy a new computer with my credit card but it wouldn't have all my favorite software. And it wouldn't have my music. So I got a good tip from a guy who knows a guy that Cantrell's could take care of me. The guy was right! Needed a new (used) laptop and had very specific requirements. I needed a 17 inch macbook pro and was having a hard time finding one since apple stopped making one. The Cantrell's Computer Service, is an experience we all dream of. I called because my computer was hanging and required a reboot twice per day. Amar answered and offered to remote in and check things out. Remote service by the 1/2 hour is very reasonable and very quick! He quickly ascertained that one of my raid hard drives was failing. I brought my computer in and had both drives replaced and added a Solid State Drive for the operating system and speed hungry applications. AMAR called me by 4:30 the same Day*(Expedited Service) and everything was done!
